    The 2018-Up Jeep Wrangler JL and 2020-Up Gladiator JT have speakers in the dash knee position. How do we upgrade the Jeep Wrangler Stereo with these speakers? These speakers can be improved substantially with an upgrade to a larger speaker, but this requires an aftermarket speaker pod. To replace the knee speaker pods in the Jeep dash requires the removal of quite a few panels. How hard is this process? What all does it take? Are there any difficult challenges? Let's find out!

      They fire at the knee, definitely not optimal but at the end of the day it's not exactly the best car for SQ. It's still going to sound pretty darn good though, wait til you see what I did to sound treat the pods.

    It's insaine how Stellantis installed these speakers. They need a simple front access panel. Also I dont understand why stinger won't make their radio water resistant.

      Glad I could help! Make sure you seal up the pods really well, they have several holes for other speaker sizes. Actually the next video (which may or may not be dropping tomorrow) I cover all the upgrades I did to the pods.

      @@CarAudioFabrication yep! Thought of that when test fitting the speakers, I had to trim the tabs for the 6" mounting holes off to clear the frame of my speaker.
      I purchased polyfill for the enclosures but don't have any dynamat/second skin type products on hand. Debating if I really should get some or not because doing it once installed is obviously not going to happen.

    For the JL you have to go all out(expect to spend 2k+), or drop some good spx in the upper dash and call it a day. I speak from experience. The benefits of just replacing speakers is minimal. You'll get a bit a clarity with some quality dash replacements, but the stock amplification muddies everything.

    Just sound treated my entire jeep jk and also the pods. huge difference in sound quality. currently running front 2 way active off of an alpine pdx-v9, no rear and jl audio 12w6. Front rxa to ch.1 and 2 and rca ch.3 and 4 to sub input. I want to add an alpine s-a32f to allow rear fill. What would the rca hookups look like for the pdx-v9 and the s-a32f?

    Serious question...I have a JL Rubicon with the 8.4” w/ Alpine upgrade...I haven’t seen the speakers but I have to assume they’re just fancier stock speakers and probably a step or more under the cheapest Alpines on Crutchfield. Correct me if I’m wrong please. Also, I dig the Heigh10 stereo but is it worth $1500 over the 8.4”?

    I’m planning my audio build on a mk4 Supra and it comes with very shallow pods for the door speakers. If my new speakers don’t fit, and I doubt they will, is it better to delete them? I don’t think I’ll be finding after market pods for a 26 year old car. Also, I’m not sure what air volume I’ll be dealing with for my subs, if I’m at the top of the recommended air volume should I use insulation in the box? Also should I insulate if I port it?

  • @robertv62

    Worst problem is the oe speaker cover screen is tiny puta 6” speaker behind them blocks 50% of the new speaker. I drilled mine out but doesn’t look great. Even worse I leased my jeep to buy and paint is bubbling so I’m returning the jeep and have to remove all new equipment and replace both speaker panels. But I have great practice now to do it on my 2023

    Great job again Mark ‼️ I'd like to get an opinion from you please. I have a system of about 3k total RMS power. I am a sq guy. Until I can go active on a 3way component speakers. What is a good 2way component speakers that has a soft tweeter and SQ set. I have a set of DS18 6.5 component speakers. Loud but not sure they are SQ quality.

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest I would just hold out until you can get the 3 way set. I like companies like JL and Focal that sell the high end speakers "À la carte". You could get a 2 way set for the time being and upgrade to 3 way once you have the funds.

    Thank you very much for this video!!!
    I did almost everything as you suggested, put sound isolating materials, put silicon gasget seal on the inside of the connection part of the pods . Closed the additional speaker mount holes with the gasket seal and the sound deadening material from inside that overlapped the connection seam but I am so disappointed how it ended up sounding.
    I put 100W Polk components and I am not sure if the speaker is garbage or the pods or both! I have to basically use the speaker with High pass filter otherwise there is a terrible rattle sound. Speaker itself has many holes and these holes are very close to the woofer's rubber and it's leaking air from there. Will a wooden adapter ring under the speaker solve that issue?
    Also, I used the rubber part from the the stock box to seal the wire hole, it sat pretty good to be honest but I'm not sure if that was a deal breaker?
    I'm planning to make mdf adapters and give it a one more go but maaan! it took sooooo much time to remove all the garbage parts to reach to the speaker pods -it is so discouraging to take another go on this.
    I regret it so much to waste so much time to end up with a terrible sound which is not any better than the factory garbage speakers. I wish I went with the 3 1/2 speakers...
    Do your pods rattle with a decent bass (not a lot)? Would you recommend getting 3 1/2 instead of 100W Polks? Maybe it is too much for a little pod but anyways I wasn't expecting earth shattering sound - all I wanted to have clean mid bass.
    Would love to hear your thoughts on how your pods sound after the install, do you have a review video?
    Any insight would be appreciated!
    Thank you!

    • @gregfitch6093
      @gregfitch6093 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine did the same. I cut out the back of the enclosure. The speaker cone stopped rattling. Something about these enclosures causes this if they are sealed. The factory ones have a sound tube to allow the cone to breathe. Once the back was removed, they sounded great and they use the space up under the dash for bass.

      @@CarAudioFabrication yeah that's also a pain for just about any vehicle after 2012 or something, the cars functions built-in to the HU. I like the location of them speakers being where they are but after seeing all the bs you had to do just to get to them speakers, that probably turns a lot of people right off when it comes to upgrading their sound. And I'm sure it's not cheap to have it professionally done either probably $500 to a grand just in labor getting to them 2 speakers. But once it's done, I'm sure it's nice
