    Nice job Dave. I recently had to replace my 8.4 in my 14' Ram 2500 because when I did a USB update it got stuck on "embedded air card." I was out of warranty by time so I checked a reputable eBay seller who had the same exact radio as mine with the same exact preloaded features and the 4 digit security code to that radio. I did the swap everything went well but to make a long story short, I had to pay $10.00 to transfer the XM radio service. Also, I no longer had navigation because the radio has a different identifier/air card and the navigation stays with the old radio. I called FCC and they were very helpful with providing me the codes for navigation activation. Just some food for thought! This package from infotainment is pretty slick!

    Couple things you didn’t touch on:
    1. You can buy a new HVAC control panel from infotainment as well to regain the factory volume button.
    2. When upgrading from the 5.0, you likely won’t have the GPS module, which you can also buy from infotainment and install yourself.

    Great instruction video however I do have a question? You mentioned that you would have to take the vehicle to the dealership to have them add the sales code so everything plays nice together. The radio and its functions seemed to work after you did the install so is taking it to the dealer really necessary? The dealers I've talked with say there is no way to add the code because it was not a factory option.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have access to the Chrysler website where I can change the sales code. The dealer you spoke with is incorrect......that vehicle did come with the 8.4 on certain trim levels and the trim bezel for that size used in the video was an oem bezel meaning that they make it for that radio from the factory. They just sound mis-informed. Its all about knowing what sales codes are needed to be changed. Thanks for the feedback on the video and for the question Russ. Make sure to subscribe.

    is there a way to get a new cluster beneath the upgraded display to have a volume knob? like in the models with the technology package? or does that require extensive rewiring?

      I would really like to know too. Just bought a JT with the 5.0 unconnect and I really want to upgrade but having no volume knob really is a dealbreaker for me.

    I have a 2020 RAM... could I just yank my head unit from the RAM and buy the 8.4 bezel for my JL? I'd much rather put an aftermarket system in the RAM instead of the Jeep

    Can you do a radio upgrade on a Jeep Renegade from the 2015 5 inch to the 7 inch of a 2018?

      Not sure if it can be done.....I recommend checking with Infotainment.com first to see if they offer anything yet. They are the go to source for swaps like that.

    Excellent video Dave … well done. My 2019 Jeep JL 8.4 screen lost the display on the right 1/3 of the screen. The touch screen still works on the blank portion of the screen. The dealer says a radio software update maybe required ($200) or a complete radio with nav replacement ($3,000)
    Any ideas what the problem might be? Can it be repaired. Thanks Jim

      I think the extra is the 8.4 got GPS incorporated along with some off road maps, I think, I have the 7' and I use my Google maps but I considering the 8.4 but it got even more expensive that it was before! hmm

    Thanks for the great video. However I do have a few questions:
    1. Can I download and use the Jeep Trail Maps? That is one of the best features for the 8.1 but it didn't become available until recently. I don't mind paying extra for it but I want to make sure I can get them.
    2. Does this 8.1 do over the air updates like one that was installed with the Wrangler? If so, is it using a connection from my phone or some sort of 4G/LTE connection? If it is using 4G/LTE do I need to take extra steps to register it onto a providers network?
    3. Do you have to connect a GPS or Sirrius/XM antenna somewhere? From what I've read in the past, you have to do that to use those features.
    I'm still torn on whether to do this upgrade. As I stated earlier, I've got the 7" uConnect on my Wrangler, however the performance with Apple CarPlay has been pretty abysmal. Sometimes the navigation is way off. Sometimes the track advance button on the steering wheel doesn't work. Sometimes it doesn't show my playlists. etc., etc. I"m not 100% sure it's CarPlay or uConnect having these issues but Jeep customer care and my dealer have been pretty worthless in getting it fixed. I should also say that I don't have any issues with CarPlay when I hook it up to another car. I heard that Insane Audio and Alpine may be releasing direct replacement head units soon, so I may just wait for those.

      That would be something to ask those over at infotainment.com, they know more then me when it comes to the features and function.

    Hey Dave.
    I had an issue with my 8.4 screen and replaced it. Now I have the oddomiter flashing because it is not configured. Can this only be fixed by the dealer? And will this cause more problems if I don't get it configured?

    how can i get a dealership to perform the sales code addition? every one of them that i call says they cant do it even when i offer to pay!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like they arent familiar with the process and how its done. The issue will be finding out what sales codes will be needed to make it work. It can be trial and error. Otherwise not much I can tell you about getting them to take on the job. Not sure who you are talking to....maybe a service writer or service manager that hasnt done it before instead of a tech that has. We have to do it for add on Mopar items like integrated trailer brakes so it wouldnt be much different then that. Sorry they are giving you the run around.
