This is an excellent beginner's glossary. Linked it to my homie who's just getting into the game lately. Would love to see updated/remastered versions in the future *pushes red button*
Thanks man, veteran to card games, never even attempted to learn Yugioh, and you explained the rules nicely so I know what to look out for in terms of not so clearly explained stuff
I’ve tried to watch other videos that explains the basics of the game but couldn’t watch any of them until the end except for yours! And I can finally say that I’ve learned something lol .. time to dig more deeper and see some gameplays! Thank you!
Someone here who's been out of the game for nearly 20 years. Been trying to get back into it and been confused by all the new stuff that's been added since. Watching through this was a lot to take in, but was the perfect way to get me back up to speed with some of the mechanics at least. Bravo sir!
I used to watch yugioh it was my first anime but now I’m older I have forgotten how to play. My deck was made up of all the monsters I thought were coolest at 7 so it’s pretty useless but I keep it just for memories. Gonna get back into it this and next year now
Thank you for your lecture I haven’t played Yugioh since I was 15 and now I’m 27 and they’ve changed their rules but your lecture help me understand everything thank you again 😊
cheers bro. this is helpful. i havent played since i was a kid when this game first come out and looking at it all now it seems a hell of a lot more advanced and more complicated so this rrefresher helped alot . i subscribed cos of it
Used to watch yu gi oh but my dad got me to start watching from the begining and right now watching yugi vs pegusus and plan to finish the rest even have cards on my shopping list on amazon. Might want to see if me and my dad can learn to play together, hopefully i learn well
My kid's in grade 4 learning math and English. I figured I'd get him into this game to help motivate the reading and math. It looks way more complicated than it used to be. I think I might sort through the deck and simplify it to old rules lol. The simplicity is what made the game good, imo.
I agree. Maybe making deck with only vanilla monsters and excluding tribute summons may be an easy way to start. I'd assume making the decks would be the more complicated part.
Hey Sam, I just wanted to say thanks. I'm just getting into YGO and this helped relieve a lot of the overwhelming sensation I was getting from just the rules alone.
Absolutely helpful and easy to follow! If you ever just want to brush up on knowledge, want a better understanding, or want to introduce a new duelist to the game, THIS is the video to share! 🤙🏽😎🌊🌋🏝️🗿
I'm a pokemon tcg player. have been for quite sometime now, and I've always wanted to learn how to play this game. honestly mainly because it seems like you have ways to either stop or maybe hinder your oppenent from doing things during their turn. In pokemon you cant do that. when its not your turn, you cant "defend" yourself at all. I'm very interested in learning this game for sure!
I totally get that - theres a lot of new things added into the game now than there were before. You can try playing with some friends casually first to slowly get accustomed
Only ever played one game in my life where my friend built my deck for me and he built an awesome deck to just kick my butt. Did not have fun. This really helped me feel like the game might actually be fun despite what felt like a huge barrier to learning!
I would love to see new rules that say you need I.E. 8 traps and 8 spells minimum in your deck. Now days the matches are usually who manages to special summon his/her best cards and jsut wreck enemy XD This would possibly bring some more strategy and thinking in the game :O
Great video bro, just what I was looking for! As a long time MTG player I became curious about Yugioh and am a bit overwhelmed hahaha so thanks for the full breakdown and great explanations, Ill come back to this video many times Im sure. Sub up to support the lesser known TH-cam channels!
can confirm on the "do not buy sealed product" thing tried buying soulburning packs to build a battlin' boxers deck and I've spent about as much money as it would take to just buy singles and I don't even have half of the deck yet
Ya know kid, you need to work on reading out load with your script. But this is very well done in my opinion, I used to play when I was a kid but lost interest. Came back to learn all the newe xyz, link, and pendulum monsters. So this was helpful, alot of creators are lazy and don't explain the deck or play styles etc. You took the time not to explain this, but you took the time to wright an entire script, compose essentially a power point breaking down the game, and you sectioned the entire thing to save viewes time to easily find the part of the game their not familiar with. This was extremely well thought out and clearly made by someone who wants their friends and others to start playing but got tired of explaining how to play the game. Well done, and thank you.
I appreciate the feedback! This was created a few years ago when I was a bit less experienced with recording, so I apologize if the quality isn't the best.
Sorry for not making it clearer - tuners are special monsters used for synchro summoning (but can also be used as material for other summons too). You'll notice synchro monsters have "1 tuner monster" in their summoning requirement, so you'll need to send a tuner and a non tuner whose total level equals the synchro monster's in order to synchro summon it.
Thank you so much Sam for explaining the rules of the game in simple terms it really helps a lot, I hope people will be more willing to play the game with me now that I know how to play instead of calling quits after second duel because of sucking so badly, thank you :)
I went into my 1st games with a friend as an experienced MTG player but with zero Yu Gi Oh knowledge and I managed to grasp core concepts and even won a few games. That said, I was frustrated that I didn't understand the turn order, Links etc. You filled in the gaps without dwelling on one topic and made my second session much smoother. I also tried decks with Time Wizard and XYZ cards after seeing it in the tutorial 👍 Like in Magic, I suppose understanding the basic rules and turns is one thing, then learning the strategies and meta is another. Seems the decks my friend plays are tribal (Ancient Warriors, Mechanica etc) and I played a control deck which successfully decked my opponent. Are there any good vids that give an overview of the main strategies and archetypes?
This should go over cards that are in current meta like Gold Pride, Kashtira, Jerry Beans Man, and Pot of Generosity. I would like to have tutorials on these specific arcetypes since they are what we go against in real life scenerios. Also explaining the effects of each of the dragonrulers so we know how to counter things like that, and how many celtic guardian should be in side deck. Thanks for listening to feedback
The traptrix one for sure! It comes with great staples, is easy to understand, and you really only need 3 structure decks to do well at your first tournament
I would argue that for the current format you can't do much better than three structure decks of Albaz strike. It has the Despia archetype which is currently a top 10 deck in the game.
I'm just here to create a Minecraft texture pack of the totem of undying and I was planning to make it look like a Yu-Gi-Oh card but don't want it to be unrealistic and just look terrible with wrong description, and etc. then I got here.
I'm not too well versed in that side since I've never been much of a collector, but I imagine you could just go ahead and pick the cards you like/think are cool
If I use the card the melody of awakening dragon and I get blue eyes white dragon in my hand do I still need to tribute two cards to summon in the field,?

This is not true in the TCG, if you want to play at an event like a local tournament or regionals (aside from special side events) Between you and your friends, sure, you can have 4 people
This was really good but I'm sorry I find you quite hard to understand sometimes. You start a sentence loudly and get quieter as you speak ending a sentence very quiet. This makes it hard for me to understand you especially as you speak quite quickly. It really feels like you're just reading from a script you've written and you're not really presenting it just reading it really quickly like the way you would in school when the teacher asks you to read aloud
That is absolutely not true, there is no rule stating that. However, keep in mind that a vast majority of the Yugioh TCG community are males, so that's what they probably meant. Nonetheless, I hope you're able to enjoy the game/community if you ever get into it :)
Now wait just a minute you started the video within a couple minutes of saying somebody who plays this game has the reading comprehension of a six-year-old ? I don’t think that’s gonna make people especially in the adult range attracted to your videos. 😂 if these kids are pretty smart at the game and if they’ve won tournament prizes I’m pretty sure they’re reading level is better than a six-year-old.

When people are playing the card game do people call it yugioh or do they call it duel monsters.

So do the pendulum monsters they go in the extra deck?
When they would be sent from the field to the graveyard, they instead go to the extra deck face up

since the newest rules of the game the extra monster zones are no more. just saying it in case you didnt already knew that :)
