    I performed an experiment to see how the Sea Monkeys compare to the Aqua Dragons. Even though the Aqua Dragons are doing much better, only time will tell which of the two produces the best results and a stronger colony.

    I have aqua dragons, on Jan 1st 2023 they will be 3 years old, life just constantly thrives in it and I always have numerous mating pairs. I once got down to just 1 left in but luckily the females had given birth before they passed away and the little ones grew before the last big one passed, I have never added any new eggs so depending on their average life span I could be on about the 15th or so generation which is pretty cool. Got them for one of my kids for Christmas 2020 but I'm the one that feeds and aerates the water.

      @@bikergrandma2316 it was a while back now so is hard to remember but I'm pretty sure it was spring water, don't use mineral or tap water. In all these years I have only ever bought 1 extra pack of food and I got it off amazon, I use to aim to feed them every other day but I think the key is not over feeding them, sometimes I can go 3-4 days without feeding, maybe even more. I have mine on my kitchen window, it says not to have in direct sunlight but I live in UK so doesn't get too hot. Conditions seem to have been just right for them. I have also never emptied out any of the dead bodies or food so they have a layer of whatever you want to call it on the bottom and I think that is pretty important for the eco system, I have a friend who got his kids some and he kept fishing out the dead bodies and the tank didn't last longer than a couple of months

    Wow! Over 500 days with the sea monkeys! Years ago i worked in an advertising agency and as a joke I purchased EVERY SINGLE ITEM FROM SEA MONKEYS. All of it. I found an order form in a magazine, extended the order entry lines and included every single item on the list. The big tank, the "mega food" the lighted tanks etc etc. When it arrived I got my coworkers to gather around as I dumped in the "instant eggs". No one was impressed. They hatched fine but no one could see them so they simply weren't impressed. I kept it going for several years on the window sill of my office with great success. The little monsters NEVER got as big as the ones I see in your "Mars" gizmo. That could be because I let the water dry up a few times when I was away from the office. Everyone refused to add water when I went on vacation. Of course the swimmers died but I simply added new water back in and dried up eggs in stasis "rehatched".

    Had Sea Monkeys as a Kid back in the late 60's/Early 70's. Remember the ads in my comic books also. In the 90's was raising Brine shrimp for my aquariums and just bought the tubes of eggs and a little hatchery at a fish store. Air stone in a mason jar with light salt and a tube of eggs is all you really need. This brings back a lot of memories though, mine grew to adults and were having kids by the time the cats found em.

    It seems Aqua Dragon is the improved-sea-monkey formula in every way, the simpler 2-package eggs & food to the temperature sensor, not to mention the LED light. But it is rather rare to see their products here in Asia. Sea Monkeys though is the classic but I think it is so tough to establish a colony.

      I would agree but Aqua Dragon formulas don’t have salt in them which decreases the salinity levels. There is a simple solution and just adding a small amount of aquarium salt every two weeks but kids may not know that, which means the Aqua Dragon’s lifespan would be decreased by four times compared to sea monkeys.

    I was hiking in some hills where I grew up as a kid back in the 80's. There was a rock up near the top with a round "basin" in it about 14" across and deep. Filled with collected rainwater, with a colony of these buggers swimming in it. Hard to imagine someone carried a packet of them to the top of the hill on the off chance they'd find a pool of water big enough to hold water year round, so they must have been "native". I had the same problem with sea monkeys when I was a kid. Sad Christmas break. Now I’m on day 9. They seem to be thriving. I still have babies appearing. My situation is so odd to me, because I put tap water in the tank🤦🏻‍♀️ AND I didn’t know I was supposed to aerate the tank! It’s “crucial” to aerate the tank during the first week, well, I started doing it on day 3/4… my kit didn’t come with an aerator, so I’ve been using a needle-less syringe. I wasn’t too concerned, because they were doing great! I’m only using bottled water, from now on. I fed them on day 5. They began eating right away, even the new babies are eating! I’m seeing new babies almost everyday. I’m crossing my fingers that most (possibly all) of them will survive.🤞🏻I did so many things incorrectly during the first few days. I’m feeling blessed lol. Don’t do what I did! Read the instructions very carefully! My kit is different. My instructions were difficult for ME to read, so don’t be afraid to go to the Sea Monkey website for more information. Who thought it was a good idea to design a aquarium with LED lights and put the batteries on the bottom?
    So you have to lift it up above your head, unscrew the hatch (without dropping the screw or hatch), replace the batteries, single handedly place back the hatch and screw in the screw. All without shaking to much so you do not spill.

    • @scottdoesntmatter4409
      @scottdoesntmatter4409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SylvieGrimalkin I can! First off, you need to go out and buy some salt, the best kind is Instant Ocean Sea Salt (I checked around), they sell a box with enough mix for 10 gallons. Second, you need a 1 gallon tank, preferably with a light and a sponge filter/water pump. I bought Carefree Fish tank off Amazon, but haven't used it yet. Third, you need a very tiny air pump and air stone, with tubing and little air regulator valves. Artemia Daddy here on youtube has a USB compatible in water heater (a lizard heating mat isn't enough for a gallon sized tank) in his Amazon list. Finally, you need some pipettes if you don't already have an Aqua Leash (the tiny tube with a squeeze bulb handle). I bought a TON of them for 16, and can mail some extra ones to you, I have more than I will ever need. You use these to transfer shrimp around, and suck up debris that the pump might not catch.Oh, and to know how much salt to add, temperature to keep them at (you want to have them on a windowsill for sunlight to grow algae) you should probably pick up the tiny Brine Shrimp book on Amazon. The title is "Sea Monkeys & Brine Shrimp A Keeper's Handbook" by David Franklin. It's useful, but does repeat information needlessly to pad the page count.

    The funny thing is that the animals have almost zero food in most cases and they are simply a mix of the three types of eggs that are naturally produced by the animals. One type hatches immediately a second hatches in a few days and so on up to the thirty day mark. The stuff that is supposed to be the purifying agent is not really that and as a matter of fact they all have eggs and almost zero food if any.

      There is a tiny bit of food in package number 3 but not enough to maintain them and there I a die in the various packages that makes them more visible. You won't get a breeding population and they will have a sudden die off in about three months at most. You can try giving them algae as a food source but their not long lived creatures as is and none of the packages have enough potential food to support them or even start a algae colony. You basically need to introduce algae with the first package to have any hope of maintaining their population and even then you have to harvest them every few days. The tiny bit of food that is in package number 3 is mostly there as a coloring agent and not much more. This is a classic example of the corporate abuse of animals that occurs sometimes. I'm not saying that there isn't ever a situation where some companies are actually giving you food for the animals but even when they do it isn't enough to actually feed them or anything more than coloring in most cases. Lastly yes the animals are prone to eating each other but the lack of any real food sorce makes that worse in addition to them not even having a bubbler to help keep the tank oxygenated.

      @nowirehangers2815 I'm not I have done lots of research on them and they really don't have much if any food in the packets and it's a trick dealing with dying the animals and the different types of eggs. The animals really produce three different types of eggs and there isn't anything special with the brine shrimp, you don't really need to add the conditioner or anything else like that most of the time because most tap water is already close enough to be able to hatch them and they will live between 14 and 60 day without any need for additional food. I would however like to let you know that you can easily turn them into a food source for other things humans included very easily and you can also use brine shrimp as a kind of water indicator to see if the water you are planning to place aquarium animals into is safe for them. If you want to know more then you can easily find more information about them typically with a few seconds or minutes of searching.
      Just so you know about it you can find brine shrimp that live up to six months or longer but you will need to look hard.
      You should also know that most crustaceans are fairly cannibalistic and that is part of the reason why extra food isn't necessary. It is gross but unfortunately very true.

    This didn't provide me any guidance on if I should go Sea Monkeys or Dragons. It's amazing you've kept one project going for over 500 days though, so major props on that. I've never come close to that kind of longevity! But today I just needed some quick info b4 I make a purchase for me neices/nephews and had never heard of these 'dragons'. Your video title suggested it was just what I needed to watch and decide, but by the end I still wasn't sure what to go with. Thanks for the share though. I did enjoy it, just didn't get the +1 or -1 recommendation I needed.

      This is one of my longer videos and I’m sorry you couldn’t find what you needed in time. I also didn’t want to bash on one of the products because they are both great and are not always consistent. I’d suggest you go with an up to date Sea Monkeys kit to create a full experience with the nostalgic feel. Aqua Dragons seem to do great though so you honestly can’t go wrong with either.
