The babies swim towards the light because they just came out of it, and knowing what the world will offer, they just want to go back as quickly as they came.
Lol noo don't say that 😂😭
@@CJ-ht4rf I would. ;)
In insects, they fly around lights because they always keep their back to the sun or moon as it helps them stay right way up when flying. The reason they fly around the light is because a bulb is circular, and so to keep their back to it they have to fly around it at a 90 degree angle. Im not sure if this is the same for brine shrimp though.
r/whoosh
Lol
Cool fact tho! :)@@What_Is_Blud_On_About
@@SweetDemoness please dont put me on the subreddit
My theory is that when they just hatch, there are so small that gravity does not affect them so much so they could not tell which side it up while light always comes from the sky in the nature, being attracted to light helps them to reach the oxygen and algae rich surface and have a better chance of survival.
3:31 I do like the mention of sustainability and recycling, talking about reusing the tank, and even recycling the tank. I was already impressed with the entirely cardboard packaging. As someone for whom Bin Day and managing household recycling, could also be called Hell On Earth That Consumes Full Time Hours During Daylight And The Dark Time, being able to just chuck two pieces of corrugated card in the card bag is a pleasant relief
Why am I addicted to this??
Mate even I don’t know why I’m so addicted to this hobby 😆
I don't know man, this channel has had an iron grip on me for a bit over half a year now
Idk it makes me want one 😂
@@pico-cosmospractise for when you become a dad
Ditto!
OMFG I WAS HOPING FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
I’ve had my dragons for a few weeks now and I’ve been bursting at the seams ever since they hatched! ❤
🙌 which Aqua Dragon kit did you get?
@@pico-cosmos yeah which one?
Language.
This was my first Birne Shrimp Aquarium. I removed this Plastik too. Now i have this one, and 2 Sea Monkeys Tanks. I love them all.
And John i love your videos. ❤
I am so glad to see that the tank art is actually a wrap! Been eyeing this line of kits for a while and that's what was holding me back from purchasing. Great review as always.
Yeah I was always confused by it too. I’d see some photos of it online with the art and others without it and never understood why. Definitely glad it’s easy to remove 👍
when my sea monkeys are babies, I usually use a tooth pick to "scoop" some food out very early, I think it's usually the perfect amount for small babies! (learned this trick from a tadpole shrimp kit 😂)
I imagine the baby swims towards the light as their main source of food is algae which rely on photosynthesis for survival. So the algae will be thriving near the light so shrimp head their to find food.
That's my conclusion too.
Possibly, but the positive phototaxis is strongest during their first few days of life, and during this time their digestive tract isn’t even fully formed yet - instead they feed from a yolk that they’re born with in their gut. So I’m not sure if seeking out algae would be beneficial if they’re not even capable of eating it anyway? Honestly the whole thing still has me stumped 🤔
I’d say they head towards the light as the water will be warmer nearer the surface.
You keep releasing these at the perfect time for me to watch as the last 2 have both come out when I already happened to be scrolling through youtube
Haha that is good timing! I’m trying to publish videos more frequently but it can be tough because each one takes so long to make 😅
Yeah flat "panel" shaped tanks are probably Best for artemia but i kind of Also really love the bottle dome ones like the sea monkeys mars 😆 Even tho they are less effective
Yeah I agree, the mars tank looks SO good, it’s just a shame that the shape is so impractical
The "baby" Aqua Dragons are actually teenagers when they swim to the rave-style lights.
🤣
Oh hey, I picked up one of these not long ago - one of the ones without a light, sadly. I've just had the first hatch and the numbers are INSANE - I get why they do it, but it's a bit much...
Also, thanks for showing the second lid. Honestly didn't even expect it :0
Yeah the number of eggs is definitely overkill. I’m still impressed by the survival rate though tbh, I thought it would be lower
I can see hundreds of the little guys swimming around right now. Maybe they just die off at such an early age that their impact on the water quality is negligible?
New tank video! Love the calming vibes of your videos, and the macro algae growth is so pleasing too. The sea monkeys probably don't care, but it makes the tank feel nicer than if it were just empty.
(The ultimate marketing strategy would be putting both children and 30 year old bearded men on the box, imo)
Yeah I love how to macroalgae looks in there! I still don’t really know what I’m doing right to keep it alive, but I’m not complaining 😆
Would be great if they had kits for various freshwater vernal shrimp.
I really appreciate the fact that he is the reason I got into taking care of sea-monkeys! I have a "Neon Ocean Zoo" tank, a DIY tank I made myself, and an "Ocean Volcano" coming in the mail! I also have two packs of the "Instant Life" kits in my ✨ Sea-Monkey Drawer ✨ with both variants of the instructions, and 3 packets of ✨ Sea-Monkey Growth Food ✨. Thank you so much for getting me into such an amazing hobby!❤
🙌 glad to hear you’ve joined our little shrimpy community :)
The algae growth is amazing
A little algae is good right?
I enjoy your videos so very very much thank you for posting when I realized that this video was 2 minutes old and it popped up on my feed I immediately clicked
:D thanks for supporting the channel!
Your wonder-filled face on the reimagined box art is hilarious! On the subject of marketing towards adult enthusiasts, the Executive Set is the only item I'm aware of aimed at "grown up" collectors (high powered businessmen, it seems, based on the catalog description). It had a black base & cover, with shiny gold accents, but is otherwise the basic ocean zoo design. They were impossible to track down when brand new (at least for me, in the pre-internet age). Today, they command prohibitively high prices when they turn up at auction, which is very seldom. I still haven't found one, & I'm at peace with that for now, ha ha. There seems to be more than one version, too, but the differences aren't especially drastic. I just wondered if you had heard of this set before? I feel like it was the company's lone stab at reaching out to older Sea-Monkey fans, & it didn't initially sell well enough to warrant any further similar products.
I’ve never felt so stupid as when I did taking those photos of myself 🤣 glad it gave you a laugh. If you’re interested in some of the history around the old executive kits I’d highly recommend recommending checking out “supersecretcollectorsclub” “igseamonkeys” & “gulliblesbabbles” on Instagram 👍 they all share great info about older SM kits
First, those pictures for the package art are hilarious but also awesome, ha ha! Your humor definitely adds something unique to this channel. And second, I appreciate the suggestions regarding where to find material on older kits. I do have an Instagram account, which I've never done anything with. It's funny that I'll use it now, because of my obsession with Sea-Monkeys. Thanks!@@pico-cosmos
You had the same criticism I do with the Aqua Dragons lights: I wish they were USB powered. I have the Aqua Dragons In Space Live Astro Pets Deluxe kit and it appears the same type of four blue lights are in the bottom. Changing the batteries is a bit nerve-wracking because I worry that I'll drop the tank or tip it too far and spill some water out. It's an orb on a base meant to look like an "asteroid" so it's probably a bit easier than changing them in this Aqua Dragons Deluxe Underwater World tank.
Thanks for another excellent review, and showing your "tinkering" with the tank (taking the wrap off and "fixing" the lid).
It should be easy enough to modify the lights to run off USB, a cable and a few silicon diodes to drop the 5 volts to the 3 volts or so the LEDs use, might need a series resistor too.
因为从生产和进出口的角度来说,研发USB充电的玩具成本更高
@@vickysdailybook I suppose that's true. Although we wouldn't need it to charge, just to be powered via USB. I'm currently using an USB heater to keep the water at optimal temperature, and it was around 10 USD. I know that's different than lights, but the technology is similar.
@@marvelljones72 yep! 这个是用户需求和研发开发之间的冲突。但是我相信Aqua Dragons会有更好的突破的,想象力是无限的
Love your videos John, stay cool & keep em coming!
🙏😊
I really like the aquarium too but I also wish it was usb powered so you wouldn't have to worry about batteries. 😎👍💯
Should be relatively easy to modify the tank to run off USB, a cable,a few silicon diodes in series to drop the voltage and maybe a series resistor too.
You're so lucky to have access to that algae naturally! I'm gonna have to buy mine off of ebay 😂
Another banger of a video!! I love watching you review sea monkey tanks, it helps to know what kit to get ❤
Thanks! I was up till 1am this morning finishing the edit for this one, so I’m glad you enjoyed it lol
I am on team Aqua Dragon now. Way better results with them over the "leading brand". Plus they're less expensive too.
Yeah I am a convert. I was shocked at how much bigger they got and how fast they started breeding etc compared to the Sea Monkey kits I had a as a kid
Man, your channel is so great. Thanks for these relaxing videos.
1:41 not the edit hahahaha thank you for this
😆 sometimes I let my intrusive thoughts win with these stupid jokes lol
I've been watching this channel a ton over the past few days and it's rekindled my interest in the hobby. Would be really cool if you could do a video series on DIY nano aquariums that goes over things like appropriate tanks, substrates, decor, plants, tank mates, etc as I'm thinking of starting another colony soon, but I don't care much for the limitations of basic aquariums that come with the kits. It also seems like there isn't much information on this (or at least I'm not looking in the right places.)
What if the food gets over!
They have refiles u can buy
U gotta buy refiles they sell them u know
I think the babies probably swim towards the light because of an innate instinct for food - evolutionarily, they thrive with microalgae, and with more light, that means more algae. I assume it's a way to have food once their yolks run out.
I luv your beard!! It looks perfect, and you look perfect with it❤
I spilled mine and lost about half (~10) I still have half the water saved with them still in this tank with a broken top half also. What the best way to go about replacing water and tank?
This dude is legitimately funny. TH-cam recommendations finally getting a W.
They look like mini sea horses ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just got my first sea monkeys!! Spent more money on the aquarium equipment than the monkeys, but I want my babies to thrive so here we are 😂 can’t wait to see them hatch!
watching these videos really makes me want to raise some myself!! unfortunately i have 4 cats and i would not trust them not to knock over the whole thing and break my heart lol
I have a question? If too many sea monkeys hatch in my tank then should I remove some and top up with fresh water or should I use salt water. And Or just leave them?
Hello mate would you be able to do tutorial for a 1.5 litre tank at all mate ? I’m trying my best to get one up and going but the algae don’t look to be growing nice and green ! Any tips ?
I also bought sea monkeys at the same time and they only hatched like 3 but i put some of the extra hatchlings from the aqua dragon kit into the sea monkey tank
I love your vids
Hey there, I have a question for you, why are there tiny salt-like specks on the walls of my sea monkeys tank, I’ve had them for about ten days now.
I’m with you, John. Those decorative decals are likely an inexpensive way to “jazz-up” the tank with little cost. Maybe good for initial sales but not practical to the product. Same thing with the Sea-Monkey® Ocean-Adventure. Finding that second lid option under the top decal was an interesting discovery. I like that. And I’ve pulled out my hand drill to make modifications as well.
Ah yeah I forgot that some of the Ocean Adventure tanks had a similar decal as well, fortunately my one didn’t. I still need to try and get a case of those from Dragon-i to list on my website
@@pico-cosmos : Definitely. I think those would sell, John. Maybe even include actual instructions specific to it's water volume. Wouldn't THAT be novel?
do you have any tips on cleaning sea monkey tanks? ive had a small family of sea monkeys going for about 2 months and theres a lot of buildup and i dont want to disturb or hurt them by accident
I've have sea monkeys several times but have never been able to produce algae..... What do you recommend for healthy algae production??????
Check out my video titled “green sea-monkeys”
The swimming towards light sources is likely because algae is going to be near light since it needs it to grow. Since the babies don’t swim very well at first, they need to be near algae in order to eat once the yolk they’re born with runs out. At least that’s my best guess 😊
I was wondering if I should get sea monkeys volcano or aqua dragons deluxe
Both are good options 👍
Now that is a really nice tank! Agree that the plastic wrap just gets in the way tbh, Looks much better without it. :3
Yeah I agree! I think think tank looks 100000X better without it. Definitely glad it removed it :D
Would a heat mat do anything besides heating up the batteries…? Seems like it might be a bit dangerous for this particular set.
HI so I was wondering if u need to clean your tank? Bc mine is green they are healthy and mating but I want them to be happy to!
If they’re healthy and mating I wouldn’t change anything. All the gunk at the bottom of the tank feeds small microorganisms which are really beneficial for the tank’s overall health. The only “cleaning” I do is using a toothbrush to brush algae off the tank walls so I can see them better
Okay thanks!
Hi! I'm not sure if you'll be reading this comment but do you know a way to remove micro algae without killing them?
I have a bottle full of daphnias and the algae in it grew so well that the water is permanently tinted green. Which is good for my daphnias but not for my viewing experience...
You could just remove water with a turkey baster and replace it with fresh water? Or just put the tank somewhere dark for a day or two - that should allow the daphnia to eat all of the algae without it proliferating
Any estimate for the next vid? Love watching all of these!
love it ,have this tank ,5 days in still no trouble took out batteries because theres no latch on the door screw driver necessary ,, too fiddley with babys in there ,didwnt want batterys getting forgot and leaking
Yeah that’s fair. I only really used this light to show it in the video to be honest, otherwise I never turned it on
You should try triops shrimp might be kind of cool for you to show off
I think your hatch rates are also higher because of the heater, I know that as a kid, I was never taught to use a heat source and my hatch rates were much less. I think they figure that a high hatch rate is better than a low one for kids.
Yeah that's definitely true. I often see people complain about low hatch rates and I'm always perplexed because I often have too many babies 😆
Quick question: I heard somewhere that a bit too much of churning water is bad for sea monkey eggs. Is this true?
It’s not something I’ve experienced
so cool
you should hatch Triops next
Hi picocosmos My sea monkey tank is starting to grow algae. I’m pretty pretty sure that’s good because I’m pretty sure that the food because I’ve watched this channel but if not then can you give me advice?
Marimo moss are not suited for sea monkey tanks? Please advise.
LOL the rebranding!! I’m just saying, only Brachinecta gigas is worthy of the name “Aqua Dragon”. Just imagine it sweeping majestically over a miniature King’s Landing, scooping up sea monkeys.
Haha maaaan I would love to have some Branchinecta Gigas! They’re so beautiful
@@pico-cosmos Closest we can get to having an Anomalocaris I guess!
Is the phototaxis a pre programed instinct cause light is likely to be near warmth and food?
Ive heard it is because on extremely salty lakes the oxygen dilution is Bad, as it gets deeper theres Even less, so they seek for brighter areas for the oxygen exchange being better, nearer to the surface
Ooo that’s an interesting theory! Haven’t heard that one before, thanks for sharing
does micro algae grow by itself or did you plant it?
It grows by itself at first, but after you have some you can plant it into other tanks
Hello! Ive been in love with your videos! I am also in NZ and was heartbroken when i found out we arent allowed to keep cherry shrimp.. I was wondering if you had any recommendations on any bright coloured equally adorable little guys that *are* legal...
We have shrimp in tidal rock pools in NZ, but they’re not very colourful 😅 where are you based? I’m planning to try and find some wild Triops (Lepidurus Apus) soon :)
@@pico-cosmos@pico-cosmos I'm in Auckland North Shore! I heard the tide pool shrimp are catchable but have never been brave enough to try 😅 Just looked up Lepidurus Apus and am in love! Little horseshoe thingies.. they're adorable
What about a betta fish tank..? Would they be too big?
I wanna point out something I experienced with the aquadragons tank, something about the kind of plastic its made of, the salt marks on the aquadragons tank will NOT rub off no matter what I do, while the sea monkeys tank i can just scrub it off even with my finger, if youre worried about that kinda stuff i really recommend you go for a sea monkey tank
This isn’t something I’ve experienced
Have you ever tried out Triops?
Yo pico I need help I got sea monkeys yesterday and did all the steps that u suggest except for heater due to my room being hot all the time and I don’t have one and they haven’t hatched and it’s been anywhere from 23-26 hours after putting the eggs in
Wait another day, they’ll show up soon 👍
@@pico-cosmos ok I hope so
@@pico-cosmos it’s been almost another day and they still haven’t hatched I think I messed something up
Small items like this for the kids I generally modify into USB powered. Hey.... are these the same thing as the sea monkeys?
My sea dragons are also alive and well and have little babies and a little algae too.
It would be cool if someone came up with a Sea Monkey/Aqua Dragon tank that had built in bubbler, heater, & lights that ran off a USB and a packet of algae type plants so everyone could have it in their tank.
I don't think there are any suitable algae that could survive prolonged periods with neither moisture nor light at room temperature, so I doubt an algae packet would be possible. This is a shame, because in my experience once algae become established, your Sea-Monkeys become much easier to keep alive.
I thought the top that was hidden under the sleeve of plastic was easy to come off if the sleeve wasn't there! how wrong I was...
Yeah it was surprisingly difficult to remove
Also what would be the best way to make this tank more stable 😅😅😅
Hello there I'm hoping that you review aqua dragons in space tank
I’ll get around to it eventually 👍 do you have that tank?
Maybe you can sell some of the algae?
Shipping it overseas would be difficult and I’m not sure it would survive the journey :/
Could you try out the basic kit of “the gluupys Cancun”?
Are you from Mexico?
@@pico-cosmos yeah!
@@pico-cosmos yes :)
I think babays swim towards light because they might have photo receptprs during intial stages for getting food

I’m addicted to my game boy at the moment 😆
I have some ❤
Best time to feed after first getting them? I don't want to kill my little pals :(
Update?

What is that algae called??

Hey crazy 😜 how is the day for the kids 😢
I wanna see him givw monster to aqua dragons
Could I buy an aqua leash from you?
Lol wait there's an orphaned aqua dragon game??
Hey Picosmos, I started my sea monkey colony, right now they are juveniles and adults and healthy, but there's one male adult sea monkey that's fully white with no color and it's not really strong and can't swim that much, it's always at the bottom of my aquarium tank, do you know anything about this?¿
It will probably pass away soon. That just happens some times :/
I wish so bad I could microalage in my tank
How long has your tank been going for? Give it plenty of indirect sunlight to encourage algae growth :)
its cool but i think it’s kind of sad and weird how live animals are seen as toys. also how the eggs are still alive in dry boxes
Can I feed these to my fish
I live in New Zealand, probably too far away for your fish to eat them x
:)
How many Years These are alive🧐
0.3 years
They swim to light because thats where their food is growing.
It’s my understanding that the babies are incapable of feeding from their environment for the first few days because their digestive tract isn’t fully formed yet 🤔
@@pico-cosmos But they still need to go where they can eat later. Water quality can be more pleasing where algae grows too, as they emit oxygen and feed on nutritiens that can be harmfull in great quantities for other forms of life. If there is light their is more likely a place to live, from their evolution viewpoint, thats how I see it.
Dragons😂
You know what you did with that thumbnail.
Lol honestly it was purely coincidental 🤣 I’m not mad about it tho
Idk

I saw him comment to someone that he was planning on doing this. I think it might have been the video right before this one?
I will eventually, but it's pretty low down on my list at the moment. There are others who have already made videos about it
