I had some of these about 20 years ago, I put them in a 5 gallon aquarium tank with about a gallon of water from the creek that was just down the hill from where I lived. I also used the tank filter and aerator, they seemed to love to play in the bubble stream. When the prepackaged food ran out I bought regular fish food, they thrived on that. They lived for about three months, when the last one died I let the tank dry out. When the tank had dried completely I added more of the creek water and sure enough there were new hatchlings.

It’s pretty cool! This is what happens in nature as well as their habitat dries up and then they come back after a rainfall.

I've been thinking about getting some of these, could you answer some of my questions if you have time?
Did they seem more active at day or night?
      Do they smell bad?

@@DiamondDovesArt From what I remember they did not seem to care if it was day or night, they seemed to be active all the time.
I don't remember them having a smell except when I was letting the tank dry out, it had a fishy smell to it so I put it out on my screened in porch. After it dried completely it had a smell similar to potting soil.

ok I have to assume whichever get slightly bigger naturally will eat the smaller ones and once one manages to eat one other sibling, they likely grow quickly and can eat most of the others. Maybe you could get more triops to start out with by keeping them separate while growing or possibly multiple tanks. Maybe that's what kept these animals so strong and fit to survive for millions of years. The weaker ones simply get cannibalized.

    • @aqualabcreations
      @aqualabcreations  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

This is true! Next time I do this experiment I’ll be sure to separate them to measure their success.

  • @yuugael4010

they are attracted to lights so its better to feed them near light source, also they have cannibalistic tendencies so they'll eat other to grow bigger (the biggest will eat the smaller one)

the small ones may have been artemia, put in the pack with the triops eggs as live food for the triops when they hatch.. would deffinatly explain why the triops grew 3 times their own size in one day and the others mysteriously dissapeared. plus their swimming characteristics are completely different to the bigger ones that hatched in the first 24 hours. you would think they live by the same rules as all other species of creature that tend to lay eggs all the same size so should all hatch the same size.. just a theory

I love these guys. Had a full on tank set up to get a colony going, but the water quality was always abysmal. Not sure what causes the extreme cloudiness (my best guess is the shed molts?) but they seem to do just fine in it. I got my eggs from a breeder in Germany and used shrimp pellets to feed them. Guys got so big, they'd lay on their backs and hold the pellet with their legs. Makes me wanna do another tank just for them

Later on if these don't lay eggs, you might buy eggs from a "breeder" so eggs that were layed by their triops. There are different varieties of triops that need different temperatures, so you can choose a variety that fits your environment best. That's what i used to do and they thrived 🥰

Mine die in just 3 days.... Today, on my second try, I found that my only triops was dead. pH, ammonia, fine. Maybe too much food for a single pup? I only insert the tip of a toothpick every 24 hours. I'm very upset that I didn't get it, I had a heater and lighting in the last tank, but I didn't have a filter and an oxygenator. My next attempt will be with a tank with an oxygenator and filter.

Like any creature that lives in an aquarium it only makes sense to have some gentle filtration even if the kit does not even mention that...that would really help keeping that water from getting so "dusty" looking, and a small heater.. a bubble stone would prob be a good idea too...with those three relatively cheap additions they could probably live for quite some time. Thanks very much for making this video...are you going to do another tank of them? P.S...buying a small bag of aquarium sand and just putting in a small amount would help to bulk up the "floor of the tank too.

Pro tip for those that didnt know: if you have little to no success on hatching, let the water naturally evaporate, then collect the substrate with the eggs, let it dry for a few days, then simply start again.
The cysts "eggs" will not hatch unless conditions are perfect, so even if you got little to no success, try again & again!

There were so many that hatched what happened to them when you only had 5 big ones withing a day or 2? Are they cannibals? Do they eat the small ones and that's how they got big overnight? Also, are they the same as sea monkeys or a different kind of animal? I'm new to this channel and new to this sea monkey thing. I watched only a couple of other channel videos and just wondering what happened to them and what are they exactly and do they eat each other? Thanks for the video was very interesting. Hope you and everyone has a wonderful and blessed day.

If you feed them salt, they can convert it to electricity, which is collected by copper wires. Otherwise, they get chili powder. More electricity = less pain. You have to be human to have human rights... and you gotta be pretty rough with the sea monkeys. They don't cooperate so easy, but they get to live, so
The ultimate goal is to set the chili powder by the glass, and get a noticeable uptick in electric output, instantly
