I can’t thank you enough for testing all the new switches in one video, for a new customer like me this is a really big factor for me as I’d want to have a good representation of what each switch sounds like!
Thanks for letting me know you liked that 👍🏻 That was the intent behind the video and I hope to be able to continue doing so with future keyboard reviews as well ✌🏻
Man thank you! What a great review! Sound test 10/10
Thanks, your feedback is very helpful in directing how I make reviews 👍🏻 I’m glad you liked the sound comparisons ✌🏻
Thanks for the detailed review! Very few reviews out there for this keyboard.
You’re very welcome, I hope it helps ✌🏻
It definitely did, I was finally able to pull the trigger after watching your review, ordered blue with lemon switch. Thanks!
@prabhurc3 I hope you like it 👍🏻
Great vid! :)
I just got my Halo75 V2 in black with the Raspberry switches. I love the feel, I started with Browns in my first keyboard and then like the Moss on the air series, but the raspberry is a pretty moderate feeling linear. I ordered rose glaciers in case I didn’t like them but the raspberries came on top for me. Good review!
Awesome, thanks for sharing your experience 👍🏻
Are they noisy? I want them to give that satisfactory noise but don’t be to loud
Just got my board with lemon switches. I love the board but I was a bit disappointed by the lemon switches. They sound great and feel super smooth but I guess I've been spoiled by tactiles with strong bumps because the bump on these may as well be nonexistent. It's so light it may as well be linear. Frankly not for me but I could see this being a fun switch for those who enjoy linears but want to try a soft tactile switch.
It's nice from nuphy to add Cherry Mx's silent red option.
I preordered the Halo 96 V2 - been a huge fan of the Air series, have the 96, 75, and 60 (One for desktop, one for laptop, one for iPad - I know overkill but I love my custom keyboards) swapped out to Gateron Silent V2 switches (black) just a large fan of Nuphy even if they are on the pricey side they have been the most reliable mechanical keyboards I've used. The Reviews on the 75 V2 give me hope that the preorder should be nice, do wish opening the frame up was easier but I'm fine lubing and swapping switches and just modding the firmware and changing the backlit RGB with the Hot Key functions.
Honestly never comment, but some credit due for a great review just ordered a Mint
Thanks, that means a lot 👍🏻 I hope you enjoy it ✌🏻
Their screws not bolts but nitpik aside great video, great editing, and great sound test not to mention a thorough review.
I'd likely choose the Raspberry switches. I really like a strong bump in my keypresses but it really slows my typing down and gives poor gaming performance so a linear switch is the best option for me as long as it's not too light.
Battery capacity disappointing. All of the chinese vendors lare moving to dual batteries now (2x3000mah through to 2x4000mah) would have loved to see Nuphy stay competitive there or even take a lead (2x5000mah anyone?)
That would have been nice for sure 👍🏻
I'm not into custom keyboards but wow this one sounds so good
It is one of the best relatively “inexpensive” rebuilds I’ve tried from that perspective - very marbly and satisfying 😃
Absolutely gutted that they switched from the old Gateron switches; loved my BBK to bits. Any info as to why they changed the default switch options?
Nothing that I’ve been told about why - there are a lot of things that I can speculate contribute to decisions like this (cost, desire to vertically integrate more, appeal of something “new”, etc.) but usually these are internal decisions. Personally, I really liked the Rose Glacier switches in my first gen Halo. That said, they are still selling many of the switches from the first gen, just not as configurable at the time of purchase - so it could simply be about expanding their switch offerings, marketing these through the default configurations, while also managing how many versions of the keyboards they have to be prepared to build and ship. You can still buy the Baby Kangaroos, you just need to do the swap yourself… which is appealing to many in the hobby.
In terms of noise, which switch has the most/least?
I don't want silent, but i dont want overly loud, just in the sort of mid point comparable to Keychron's Red/brown switches
The most comparable to a linear red (safe mid-line) is the raspberry switch ✌🏻
Do you know where can I download the specific firmware that is needed for the Halo v2? Cannot seem to find it one their website.
I reached out to NuPhy and they were able to send me the JSON file to get it working with VIA - not sure if they have it on their website yet. Best to email their support team 👍🏻
What is your personal opinion on using a wrist wrest with this Keyboard? Do you use/need one?
I’ve tried it both ways… I don’t think it is totally necessary; however, it is more comfortable with one. That said, it also blocks the front of the Halo light if you opt for a non-NuPhy one.
@@JakeReevesVideo The write rest is just a hunk of plastic. The one that Logitech makes is a bit better for the price and is actually comfortable.
Will this keyboard work with a keycap set with the MT3 profile?
From a quick search, I believe it should be - both use Cherry MX stems 👍🏻 According to the MT3 keycap Amazon Canada page “Keycap kit compatible with Cherry MX switches and clones (including but not limited to Gateron, Kaihua, and Halo switches)”
Hi there👋 did you expreience any double typing when using the lemon switches? because there has been many double typing happening for the lemon switches on the gem80. Has the double typing for the lemon switch been fixed ?
curious about this as well. read quite a few posts on the nuphy subreddit complaining about double typing/ghost inputs on the gem80. hope that this has been resolved
If the issue is there it'll be resolved in a matter of days, as soon as the firmware is released NuPhy or the community would fix it.
I haven’t experienced this with the Lemon switches on the Halo V2 - but I will test them a little more extensively to make sure 👍🏻
Is it the same size as the air ? Will it fit their Nufolio ?
No, the Halo series is a standard (high profile) keyboard, so I wouldn’t expect it to fit the NuFolio because that is specifically designed for the low-profile Air series ✌🏻
have u tried opening the case? cant seem to do it. Mayve you can do a video?
I haven’t tried - I asked NuPhy about it and they cautioned because you have to release snaps by straining the case (starting beneath the spacebar) - so I didn’t want to risk damaging it before filing the review
Hmm I followed your link to the Nuphy site and picked out a keyboard but no discount was applied
Make sure you input the promo code as well 👍🏻 it is listed in the title of the LinkTree
If I prefer it to be wired can it be in the wired setting?
Yes, wired and wireless functions are available - toggle switch on the back 👍🏻
I’d rather the gem 80
I’m interested… what specifically draws you to the Gem80 over the Halo75? Aesthetics? Build? Etc.
