  • Join mythologist and author Devdutt Pattanaik for a spirited and nuanced conversation about the relevance of Hindu deity Ram in the 21st century and the enduring wisdom of the epic Ramayana. As Hindu religion takes centre stage in the political discourse and in public life, Anuradha SenGupta asks, what are the the new rules of engagement? @devduttmyth

It's fascinating to observe Anuradha's journey from her initial interview with Devdutt at his home several years ago (also when I was impressed with Devdutt). Back then, she exuded a certain dismissiveness with a schoolgirl feminist edge, at least from the perspective of that moment. However, it appears she has evolved significantly since then, perhaps becoming more open-minded feminist. It's a reminder that people can indeed change and grow over time. Also, i could be horribly wrong. lol

Anuradha here treats Lord Ram as some Anime Character, about whome people are suddenly crazy about. Hence goes ahead with this interview for the views, it is apparent from how she addresses Lord Ram. There is no eagerness to learn Sanatan Dharma or curiosity about it.

The very first thing is that the Pandits and seers have different perspective of explanations. Pandits explain these as understood by their limited resourced data contain in the brain whereas the seers are continuously assisted by the abundance of power gited by Almighty God.

As an atheist, I appreciate Devdutt's interpretations of scriptures, but I find it ironic how he often engages in moral signalling.
While he criticises gurus for being intoxicated with power, Devdutt himself exhibits similar behaviour.
He highlights the failure of gurus to adhere to the deeper teachings of Ram,
yet a glance at his Twitter account reveals that he doesn't necessarily embody the values he preaches.
He comes across as a vile and vengeful person.
I doubt Ram would display the same level of negativity as Devdutt's Twitter avatar.
Where is all your compassion and empathy you want other to show? Hypocrisy?
Devdutt: A great mind. A horrible pathetic human-being.
Just like Devdutt says, just because one is a doctor and saves lives doesn't mean he is a good person. SO true.
    A disillusioned fan.

First of all, Ram is not the chapter next door, you should say Shri Ram. In our culture we even address strangers by putting shri before their names.
Better not to discuss indian scriptures with a With this borrowed European mentality.
