Ladki Bahin scheme: Pros, cons and future of Direct Cash Benefit Transfers to women
#keeptalking Episode 38 Madhavi Arora, Rekha Jadhav, Ritu Dewan | Maharashtra Votes
The landslide victory of the BJP+Shiv Sena+NCP combine in Maharashtra is being attributed to a large extent, to the 'Laadki Bahin' scheme that offers economically vulnerable women a monthly cash transfer. Other states have implemented it and more are likely to follow suit. So can state finances afford it? Is this a freebie or a welfare scheme? How can it be made more effective? What are the misconceptions the elite and middle classes have about the working class? We have three separate conversations and multiple perspectives lined up on this episode. We recommend you watch all but you can skip to view you are not familiar with first if you like. We would love to hear from you so please leave your comments below.

Rekha jadhav what a woman❤❤❤❤, I have much to say and my comment will help with algo too, Severe economic distress is a reality no matter what the urban 5 to 10 % top earners think, and is enough to topple any government if not addressed through welfarism. Ladka bhau and ladki bahin seem sound economic policies addressing long term and short term goals of development and winning elections. It must be said that the questions about the scheme have only been raised from a section of the society who are disconnected from the ground reality.
What a balanced, thought through choice of topics and execution. Await more such content.
Excellent episode. Looking forward to more.
Great Analysis
First of all, Mr. Teltumbde fails to make his position clear to his audience or the masses. Sometimes, he makes us believe that he is a hard-core Marxist, while at other times, he makes us wonder why he behaves like an Ambedkarite (what Das Kapital is to capitalists, Annihilation of Caste is to Hindus). Mr. Teltumbde could simply place himself in the category of a researcher. He should not attempt to become an enigmatic personality while criticizing Babasaheb. In the very first question, he failed to clarify his stance (he gave a rather unconvincing answer). Toward the end of the interview, when asked about his imprisonment, he appeared uncomfortable, and his responses were disorganized and incoherent. He can only romanticize the revolution proposed by Marx. Reading extensively on Marxism without contributing anything concrete is of no value. On the other hand, Babasaheb not only had a profound grasp of Marxist principles but also deeply understood their foundational ideas. Through firsthand experience, Sahab observed that Marxism, in its pure form, could not address the unique social realities of India, where caste hierarchies remain deeply entrenched, and true class consciousness is far from a reality. This realization led him to conclude that Marxism could not be applied in toto in a country like India (a point thoughtfully explained in Buddha or Karl Marx), where there is a gradation of people based on birth-a division of laborers that seems acceptable to Mr. Teltumbde. At the same time, Sahab acknowledged the transformative potential of Marxist ideas. He sought to bring about revolution and social change skillfully and thoughtfully by incorporating Communist principles (drawn from the Buddha's Sangha) into the Indian Constitution. Sahab was the one who founded the Independent Labour Party, introduced numerous progressive labor laws, and shared these ideas with the masses in a refined form through Buddha and His Dhamma. Sahab upheld the highest ideals and was a revolutionary in his own right. Even Mr. Teltumbde does not deny his revolutionary ideas and his opposition to the unjust ideals of Hindu society. His bitter experience of the 1932 Poona Pact brought a blend of revolution and pragmatism into his thinking. He neither imposed hard terms that could not be accepted nor waited passively for the savarnas to change their hearts. While working with the government, he ensured policy-level changes for the proletariat. As chairman of the Drafting Committee, he implemented structural reforms to uplift Dalits-reforms that enabled someone like me, a tea seller's son who studied at a ZP school, to critique Mr. Teltumbde today. Despite all of this, we still encounter individuals like Mr. Teltumbde-pseudo-intellectuals-emerging with misguided critiques. I truly struggle to understand the intent behind such baseless arguments. Is it to provoke controversy, or is it a failure to grasp the profound legacy of Babasaheb Ambedkar - a legacy that continues to inspire millions across the globe?
No one can use dr. Ambekar without understanding Buddha and Dharma. Dr. Ambekar was a Buddhas son. He was Dharma in true sense.

Great Person, Aanand Teltumde sir
Don’t agree with him that untouchability was good or way of life and it was not atrocities. It was atrocities in other form. Only conversation into Buddhism, caste has no importance. That’s liberation.
Madam Sengupta, read Anurag Bhaskar 's book The Foresighted AMBEDKAR Ideas That Shaped Indian Constitutional Discourse, a very scholarly researched book on the Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar's Contribution to the Constitution of India! Mr. Teltumbde also needs to read this book to change his mindset on Dr. Ambedkar's contribution to the Constitution of India.
Madam Sengupta, Guru Nanak Sahib Ji, in his "bani" has laid the basis of how to eliminate the caste system, the third Guru opened the "langar and pangat " thereby making the higher and the lowest on the caste ladder could sit and eat food together, the tenth Guru , Guru Gobind Singh Ji eliminated caste system through his creation of the Khasla when he annointed the five men from the lower castes and from their hands he partook the Ambrosia from their hands, a thing that never happened in the Indian society till that point of time. But things are not the same today.
Thank you madam Sengupta for interviewing a scholarly person like Mr. Teltumbde who has extensively written on the Dalit - problems ! The right wingers fear his "intellectual" PEN, with which he writes and highlights the problems faced by the Dalits in real-time in the Indian society.

Mr. Teltumbde spoke like a true communist! And I repeat, communist can never be allies of Ambedkarites in the movement for annihilation caste.
First of all The Ambedkarites Movement was never about Annihilation of caste.. Without caste how will Ambedkarites gain political power?

Thank you so much with this conversation with Teltumble sir I got new insights and current
It’s not enough just to be critical or harsh on someone who lived and chose to live among hardships and suffering for others. It was not an easy battle that Dr Ambedkar had undertaken. He took the pain and time to find out the solution and to understand the issue thoroughly. His engagement and commitment to ameliorate the conditions of the dalits is very much understandable and visible to those who can be honest in their feelings. If he had to see his loved family members and friends pass away and continue to work for the upliftment of the untouchables, that can’t make him ‘selfish’ even in (y)our thoughts. He had options like staying or settling abroad. But he chose the painful and hardest path and continued to work till his death. He read and wrote while being bedridden. For whom? That he wanted to be great? If the constitution wasn’t completely his own creation, whose ideas do you see in that? Who had that understanding towards the untouchables and other minorities in India? You make an effort to read and know the philosophies of those involved in making it, and publish such a book. You cannot be greater by just criticizing a great personality. You must do greater things for that and let others decide it. Dr Ambedkar’s work and struggle is not just visible in his words, it is also evident in his actions! However, I do feel no one should be disrespected or punished for expressing their views. And I do stand with Mr. Teltumbde and oppose the fascist forces working against freedom of speech.
Well said..Person like Anand Teltumbde didn't understand How Baba Saheb fight against Manuvadis and in that cause he had suffer endless pain.
Who says a human a Dalit can be a Shaitan (devil).🙏🙏🙏🙏
Worshipping Ambedkar was the only thing that kept him alive and relevant in the Amberkarite community. Worshipping him as idol was the inspiration for the children raised as neo Buddhists first generation. Otherwise Congress and other parties had made all the efforts to erase his legacy. That is the reason why other SCs failed to embrace him. Criticizing the people who worshipping him as Idol is the elitist attitude and age old conspiracy. Mr. Teltumbade is the flag bearer of those toxic liberals and communist elites. Thats why he is hated immensely among his own people. He is the darling intellectual of red bamans and so called liberals.
Dont you think " red b*mans" Is kind of casteist slur?
Very insightful interview with a remarkably erudite man who wrote an eye-opening biography of Dr. Ambedkar, the Slayer of all Gods. India is blessed to have Anand Teltumbde as a public intellectual.
What is he trying to prove? Just be critical to your emancipator, okay we are, now what ?
A very good question. Not just critical, he seems to be a bit unjustifiably harsh as well. He was once asked during his speech at CSDS, “Ok, we accept that you know more about Dr. Ambedkar, and also that you are capable enough to evaluate him. But what are you doing to do the things he couldn’t do or the things he did wrong according to you?” He gave a very casual answer, “ It will happen someone will do it.”
@hemraj6284 All I can say is, A fool Marxist trying to point a finger at a giant who not only knew what Marxism is, ( Reading too many books about Marx don't make anybody a true Marxist ) what it postulates and how it can not be followed in toto in a country like India ( Very well explained in Buddha or Karl Marx). At the same time Sahab was the one who could create an Independent Labour Party, Various other rights for Labours in particular and very subtle and a sharp way introduced the tenets of Marxism in The Constitution and Buddha and His Dhamma. I just do not know who he is trying to please.
@@hemraj6284 All I can say is that a foolish Marxist is trying to point a finger at a giant who not only understands Marxism (just reading too many books on Marxism, because they are easily available, does not make one a true Marxist) but also comprehends what it truly postulates. Why BJP pushes agenda of Love Jehad ? A: The real remedy for breaking caste is fusion of blood and feeling of kith and kin. Ambedkar writes that endogamous marriage, namely, marriage within the same caste and community is the primary reason for the perpetuation of caste. He elaborates by saying that it is through the system of imitation, blindly followed by people, whether consciously or otherwise, that this closed-door system is continued and normalised.
Let's check this with ballot papers..

Great interview of Dr.Anand Teltumade sir on a subject like annihilation of caste & current situation of reservations. In my opinion reservations should be 100% I.e. jisaki jitani sankhya bhari utani usaki hissedari at all levels along with uniform and free education to all across country. This 100% reservations will be in education, employments, politics & entrepreneurship at least for next 50 years by that time all the sections of society will be representing in every section. Once this happens, there will be equal opportunities & level playing field all all , at that time reservations should be stopped and automatically there will be annihilation of caste as well.
An interview that would be remembered for years.. worth circulating widely...
with due respect to shri anil teltumbde sir and the journlist , can they make analysis on work of dr babasaheb ambedkar in such a casual manner? are they competent to do that . certainly not. on issue of untouchabilty and autrocitis can a prudent person would like to accept version of sir teltumbade? the question comes, how we will identify the people for the purpose of reservation , and hence it is ncessary to make a shedule of castes. that does not mean to draw inference that caste system will be encouraged. sir caste is a product of varnas. sir it is true that dr babasaheb wanted someting more in the constitution , but he has limitation. sir basaheb has given ways and means in context with social and economic issues , but did authorities consider it? millions of people pay homage to babasaheb as mark of gratitude , but , not as a god, and if it is so as a god , it is due to lack of education. sir dr ambedkar uplifted life of millions of people socially and economically and that is the reason , he is a geat man. will any intellectual/ scholar will venture to do kalyankari work for millions of oppressed and depressed people? if yes , people will express gratitude towards that person.is that person today? jaybhim namobuddhay jaybharat.

Hello.. whoever is reading this comment if possible please suggest me some good books(biographies) on ambedkar (english/hindi/marathi)
To develop a nuanced understanding of such complex historical figures, reading contrasting viewpoints is always a good approach. I would suggest you to read worshipping false God by Arun shourie and then the counter argument book written by YD Phadke, I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the book. YD Phadke is an renowned author has ample of writting on Babasaheb you should get this counter argument book in your nearest book stores. Reading both books will help you to formulate honest opinion on Babasaheb Ambedkar. Both books are also available in Marathi.
Shouri & Phadke have bramnical lenses . They are false historians pseudo writers . If you want to read books on Dr. Ambedkar do read Biography of Dr.Ambedkar by Changdev Khairmode or by Nanak Chand Rattu .
Read Waiting for a Visa by the man himself. Read BAWS published by MH government. Avoid people like Arun Coolie who try their level best to spit on the Sun only to realise the futility of such stupid acts.
Kulkarni Brahmin. Are you ready to Reparations to SC ST OBC?
Happy to know that you want to read and know Dr. Ambedkar. I would say instead of knowing him through anyone else’s viewpoint, it would be better if you just start with reading his writings and speeches.
Mr. Teltumde is an average intellect, and many of the things he said can be easily dismissed. However, here are two points that even a five-year-old child would disagree with. First, he mentioned a loophole in fundamental rights. He seems to have forgotten that India is a diverse country in many aspects, and to keep this country united, we need a strong central government. As Dr. Ambedkar said, the success and failure of the Constitution lies in the hands of those in power. Due to the absence of ethics in the core values of then and now politicians has made the tourch bearers fundamental rights suffer. Second, he claimed that Dr. Ambedkar didn't do much to eradicate casteism. Mr. Teltumde seems to have an average memory, as he has overlooked the fact that many reformers have come and gone, but none could destroy the fabric of casteism in India. In fact, whenever anyone attempted to challenge casteism, its roots grew deeper, and its grip became stronger. Dr. Ambedkar understood this reality, which is why he chose to embrace Buddhism whose core is ethics. For Scheduled Caste (SC) communities that embraced Buddhism, caste has become irrelevant, but for SCs who remain Hindus, caste and sub-caste continue to hold relevance.
