The idea of not clapping between movements is relatively new. It was not uncommon to not only applaud but to demand an encore of a particularly brilliant movement. This true of Mozart through Mahler symphonies in Europe. As a conductor, of over 40 years experience, I remember when I was young I hated when people applauded between mvmts. Then I reached a conclusion that has stayed with me. It occurred to me that those who were clapping had never gone to a symphonic concert before, did not know the "etiquette" and clapped because they like what they were hearing for the first time. I realized how wonderful that was and ever since I have loved it whenever I conduct,

This symphony is strong like thunder. The audience clapping after each movement was a bit much, but the applause after the first movement was very natural, as it was when I wanted to clap, too.

Cellos in the middle with the 1st violins and 2nd violins on the outer edges is sometimes a preferred setup, depending of course on the repertoire. Music such as this, with prominent cello lines and very distinctive parts between the two violin sections, is advantageous in that it allows the cello sound to come more to the fore when needed and provides a stereo effect with the 1st and 2nd violins separated.
I'm going to hear this piece on Jan 27th next year, when Barenboim and his West--Eastern Divan Orchestra travel to Boston, along with Symphony No.3. Bravo

There were no limits of boundaries for Beethoven, he composed pieces which surpassed among creativity even when his deafness reach its level of profoundness. In fact, he was conveying to us his true distress and anguish through his music. Music like this was intended from Beethoven, to make the listener listen and not to treat it as background entertainment. That's what really stirs up the big questions in people's minds about Beethoven's abilities which alienates many people the fact that this music, Symphony no. 2 was created at the time before Beethoven realized he was beginning to lose his sense of hearing. The music stayed consistent throughout his life and be kept producing such inspirational, original music. People like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Haydn and Handel had their own originality. Despite people like Beethoven and possibly Mozart had compositions that were impacted by, for example, Mozart was possibly impacted by works of Bach when he was a child, and the early works of Beethoven were heavily impacted by Mozart and Haydn (Haydn especially) but Beethoven mostly shows his originality and unique motifs. A true legend of his age and still has his obsessive and bewilderingly impressive impact on people today! Whether it'd be contemporary modern composers or the admirers and listeners of this great age!
This is such a nice piece! I had to repeat the finale; which seems to me a text-book example of brisk, suave and smooth sailing brava. ‘Ole Ludwig always knew “whereof he affirmed” and with consummate skill and foresight made us believe we actually know our way to the city. Just to think the EROICA was just around the bend and an entirely new and quite bizarre galaxy. With a funeral March like the grandest, soaring cathedral; crystal and sublime. Never a dull moment with this genius! PWG
Haydn liked Eroica, but apparently he felt as if it completely rewrote the symphony, making Haydn's early 10-minute symphonies obsolete. I think it was just evolution. Beethoven justified each note of the 3rd, and thank God, because it's sublime.
Respect for the ball of yarn, talented fella.

I've not heard of anyone clapping between movements except in military band concerts, and then it is usually discouraged.
Usually I find clapping between movements annoying, but this point of view is very wholesome and makes me more understanding.
it's a joke of a tradition... it ruins the whole industry imo. Only a select few emotions that some pieces make deserve to not be interrupted

PWG
ThE greatest conductor ever
Stunning to think that 99.99% of the world population will never hear this beauty.
And that Decpacito (still a good song in all fairness) has 7,329,365,333 views
What? Never heard such nonsense.
Anyone of Beethoven's is among the greatest of all symphonies of any composer of the time.
Muy buena variedad de música bajada por youtube, Beethoven, Baremboim y orquesta excelentes
Daniel Barenboim is amazing...
This is the symphony that Haydn said Beethoven had gone too far..
And then came Eroica!
Haydn liked Eroica, but apparently he felt as if it completely rewrote the symphony, making Haydn's early 10-minute symphonies obsolete. I think it was just evolution. Beethoven justified each note of the 3rd, and thank God, because it's sublime.
Beethoven had stomach issues and the open to the third movements is supposed to be farts and belches, I think that is what Hayden objected to.
