You can buy account top ups for Google Play, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Nintendo Network in stores, but Apple only lets you spend directly in Apple's store with money they take 30% of.

    Here’s what I’m confused about. Are there Android/Google fans out there who want to use all these Apple services but can’t? I mean it’s not like the Play Store or the Samsung App Store doesn’t have apps for messaging, music, etc. Those stores have an abundance of apps for those kinds of things but for some reason, Android owners want to use Apple-specific apps?
    Having said that, I know that Google and Microsoft offers their productivity apps to iOS/Mac users but those apps are ubiquitous in the business world so that would be understandable. Apple probably made the decision to buy a license from those companies to host their productivity suite of apps rather than develop their own productivity apps - or at least make them as good as Google and Microsoft. Apple customers have to use WIndow PCs in a work environment so it makes sense to have those apps on Apple devices when they’re not at work.
    But for music? Texting? Photos? What’s wrong with what’s in the Play Store? Are Android users screaming not being able to use certain Apple-specific apps? Hmm..

    • @hamster_explorer9642

      I'm mainly assuming it's smaller QoL things:
      - FaceTime (a very popular and convenient video call app that doesn't quite *work* on Android. There is Google Meet, but it won't be any Apple User's go-to)
      - AirDrop (Nearby Share's equivalent, but not between the two devices)
      - App Continuity (Duolingo Math only exists on the App Store)
      - Garageband (No in-built, convenient alternative on Android/Windows)
      Which isn't to say that Android is lacking in the app department, but with how prevalent Apple devices are, device-specific apps like FaceTime show the differences in Google and Apple's decisions.
      TL;DR: it mainly creates issues between Apple + Android users, not Android + Android users.

    The apple ecosystem is designed to keep you buying from apple, yes, but is it more secure than an android phone, again yes. This is NOT an issue for the government it is about preference. The thing is, because of apple, it pushes other phone companies to make better products and it makes it a very competitive industry. The truth is that a number of other companies got this started because they would rather see apple destroyed than actually innovate and make their product better.

      For standard computing tasks that 95% of the general public engage in can be accomplished on an iPad with only 4 - 6GB of RAM running an A15 Bionic Chip, which is more than enough. 8GB of RAM is more than ample to even achieve editing of 4K video on an iPad or even an iPhone…

    The App Store shouldn't change, and neither should Apple Pay. People might accidently install a virus that's why they are so strict in their app store policy, or an app could maliciously be sending banking information elsewhere. Whereas Apple Pay uses a secure chip on the iPhone. And yes, I agree Apple fees on the App Store are high, but so are Googles as you said, and TH-cam takes a whopping 50%. And there are a lot of others who take much more. And I get that you want Apple Arcade on Android, and I would like it to work on Windows as well, but Apple uses a different operating system and hardware and Metal stuff. So developers would need to make an app for a lot of different types of systems. Also Apple News isn't a high priority for Apple since it isn't broadly available. For example, in the Netherlands things like Apple Fitness+ and Apple News, Apple Card and many more just aren't here. And this is most likely true for other EU countries. Anyways that's my take, you don't have to get mad at me if your opinion differs. I'm curious to hear your guys' take on this.

    • @NOLATechy
      @NOLATechy หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      As for your argument about accidently installing a virus, this happens in the App store already. While Apple does a very decent job scanning apps for malware, they aren't always successful as hackers get better and better at hiding malware in the apps. Your Apple Pay argument fails as well, because Pixel and Samsung phones also have secure chips on the SOCs. In fact, the Titan M2 chip in Pixel is more secure against hacking than what Apple has. While I agree that Apple, Google and Samsung all charge 30% fee on app developers, Apple is the only one that also charges an annual $99 fee to be listed as an app development for their App store. Lastly, your argument that Apple uses a different operating system is extremely weak. If Google can create Google apps for iOS and Windows OS, why can't Apple create apps for Android and Windows? Are their techs that unknowledgeable?

Actually, history shows that Apple has indeed responded to consumer demand albeit at its own pace (i.e: widgets, Lock Screen customisation, etc) Don't like what Apple has to offer?
