Hey everyone. Regarding the switch back to AMD. I didn't use the 9000 series yet because we don't have the 9900 or 9950 yet, and those chips are going to be used for testing for a while. But I'm excited to see how they perform. Also if you see the "Universe is Unlicensed" message we don't know why that appeared in the export, our license is current and logged in at time of export, I don't feel that message is worth taking down and reuploading. 🤦🏻♂️ Edit! I was able to get 6000mhz RAM working fine actually. Since filming this video I noticed that the "auto" FCLK was setting to 1733mhz. Once manually setting it to 2000 and 1:1 it worked great. I have no idea why the Gigabyte bios doesn't default to a 1:1 but it's working now
Don't know why, but I've had nothing but issues with Gigabyte when it comes to memory overclocking... I use MSI x670 and I have no issue running 6000 Mhz memory. It runs my expo timings no issue with my 7950X. Just an FYI.
Honestly, Im waiting to see Reviews of the 9000 Series to see whats the best bang-for-the-buck upgrade from my Ryzen 7700 Non-X. I stream and play games, so pure gaming performance isnt only just part of what I need to look at.
How's the 7950X3D so far? I've seen a lot of weirdness with the off-kilter dual CCD layout for gaming, do you think it's any better for more workstation-y stuff?
2 vids later "I switched back to Intel and here's why" Ps. Just want to say thank you to all for helping me complete a bucket list item to get likes on a TH-cam comment. Was never expecting this much. Thank you all!
@MakuArein But also intel just got into dGPUs (for the most part, they've tried before) and they already have better Upscaling and better Raytracing than AMD.
@MakuAreindon't forget Intel is also a much larger company with more departments. Intel has had more spinoffs and spin downs than AMD, like memory, motherboard design etcetera. AMD spinoff it's fab to become fabless and bought ATI to compete with nVidia. Intel has had lots of fab issues over the years so they will be using TSMC while they catch up. Intel also has a long history of wasting billions of dollars on failed business ventures or trying to expand in other areas outside of their specialty but falling short.
@@Rspsand07Still won’t be trading in my AMD GPU for Intel anytime soon. I would get nvidia/AMD over Intel any day just due to better driver support, especially on older games.
I had 13900K, which was RMAed to 14900. Unfortunately it did not last that long. So I have decided to get my money back as Intel did crash in the games. I did buy AMD too, 7950x3d it was. I still got no refund from Intel but I do enjoy games on my new AMD
@@jonduke4748 EVGA announced in September 2022 that it would no longer manufacture graphics cards, citing several reasons for this decision: 1. **Disagreements with NVIDIA**: EVGA had a long-standing partnership with NVIDIA, but there were reports of strained relations. EVGA's CEO, Andrew Han, mentioned issues related to NVIDIA's pricing policies, lack of transparency, and perceived unfair treatment as reasons for the decision. 2. **Profit Margins**: EVGA stated that the profit margins on their graphics card business had become too thin. Despite the high demand for GPUs, particularly during the cryptocurrency mining boom, EVGA felt that the financial returns were not sustainable. 3. **Business Focus**: EVGA decided to focus on other product lines, such as power supplies, motherboards, and other components. This strategic shift aims to ensure the company's long-term viability and success in markets where they see better opportunities for growth and profitability.
Still stunning to hear people blame users for Intel processor failures ("not tuning their voltages properly") and not blaming Intel for stagnant architecture and overvolting to destruction to appear competitive. Remember... cults aren't cool, kids!
This brand loyalty and asking everyone to switch will have insane consequences.. competition will evaporate, and prices will skyrocket…the chip business is insanely expensive
I run EXPO 6000mhz RAM on my 7950X3D with no issues! Must be the RAM you’re using. I opted for TEAM-GROUP T-Create and haven’t had any stability issues with it at all!
I find it kind of surprising that people are complaining about Jay walking back and forth between AMD and Intel. What would the alternative be, ignoring blatant instability issues that everyone is facing and pretend like they don't exist (on either platform)? I find it refreshing to know a big name youtuber can go "this toy sucks right now, make it better" rather than just acting like everything is golden.
@Belgaer I'm confused if you're saying my comment is perpetuating brand loyalty? My comment was highlighting and enticing people to avoid a brand loyalty mentality by going with whatever service/goods provider best satisfies their needs at the time. Specifically, if that changes to not feel ashamed of switching to something else, and further, to celebrate when people that have some semblance of sway with those organizations start to put pressure on them to do better. If you're just reiterating that point then sweet, and if you misinterpreted then sorry I wasn't more clear.
I don't think its that. I just think he makes a lot of click baity videos when stuff like this happens. Asus has problems and then he grandstands about how great he is for cutting them off and same thing with Intel. He drops brands when its popular and picks them back up when its convenient. I like Jays content a lot so this isn't me hating on the guy per se, but I definitely noticed this pattern and it's a little off putting.
@@SpartanArmy117 I can definitely appreciate that and unfortunately I think that could be chalked up to the TH-cam hype train needing clicks and watch time. Jay and LTT have both mentioned that they're not really "interested" in making videos that dunk on companies because they'd rather be talking about cool new tech instead. That being said, they've also highlighted how ridiculous the numbers are when putting out content that steers towards drama. So they're sort of stuck between not addressing and being called a shill, or addressing it (still being called a shill) and at least alerting customers to potential product drawbacks while cashing in at the same time. The sensationalization sucks, but unfortunately that's the game TH-cam has built.
My 13900K died around Christmas of 2023, I RMA'd It, sold it and used the funds to purchase a B650, 7800X3D platform and I couldn't be happier; RAM @6400, CL30 is Y Cruncher VST stable and the performance is around 10% higher than that of my 13900K in competitive titles.
my cpu crashes with 6400 ram and i turned off xmp and no problems. it is a 7600. if at anytime you experience that just get the speed to 5200 because that's what amd recommends
@@luladrgn9155 Every AM5 should do 6000 with today's kits and enough tinkering; no need for loose timings. Makes sense since even AM4 can usually support 5000 MHz DDR4.
Built 2 PCs with 7800X3D, one for work and one for home, the one at work has 6400 DDR5 memory from gskill, works great. The one at home has corsair Dominator 5600 DDR5 OC'd to 6000. im not getting why people are having problems with memory... but yea i switched from Intel, AMD is rocking it right now.
The initial Zen3 run seemed to have a less dialed in memory controller. Chips like Jay's initial run all are really spotty on managing 6000. I had a first run 7800X3D that simply could not stay stable with anything over 5600. Built a second one recently using another 7800X3D and 6000 works perfectly fine. Anyone you hear mentioning the 6000 issue is definitely running an initial production run Zen3 SOC. Works way better on the newer ones. Doesn't appear to be BIOS related.
For one, it has to do with the CPU you get. The X3D are very fickle when it comes to their memory controller. For two, it has to do with the quality of the RAM and if it's on the QVL list. Not all of them are equivalent, and getting shitty ones with shitty timing will be a bad time for an X3D.
I had a customer come in with blue screening and the inability to install windows. Sure enough, the 14900k was toast. 8 months old. Intel didn't even reply to his support ticket for days. He gave up and proceeded to order an amd motherboard/cpu. Intel is going to lose so many customers over this.
x870e only adds usb4 as a standard feature. there are currently x670e boards out with usb4 already. save a lil bit of money. also its been stated that 9000 ram sweet spot is 6400mhz. im currently running my 7800x3d at 6400 so idk how jay is the only person having issues running decent ram speeds.
You won't miss Intel. I have been building computers since the 1990s. Mostly Intel through all those years until 2019, moved over to AMD and never looked back. I play a lot of games.
Would it be called X770 ?? And I have a 7950x but the difference in 9000s was efficient mainly with same clocks so might have to skip it and wait for 10000 CPUs since it should still work on the same socket
My AMD 7800X3D and 7900 XTX has been going strong for over a year now. I’m able to hit 4K 120 Ultra with absolutely no upscale or any tricks. I do everything pure. I have to admit I’m a very impressed for the $1000 price point.

Now the other whatever percent has to have the top of the line team blue and green because idiot TH-camrs hype certain features, idiot Reddit dorks preach their wallet mostly because they want to brag. Now here we are, waiting to see what next and what TH-camr uploads the next best thing for the cycle to repeat.
Yeah I don't know why he's having so many issues. I'm currently running 64GB of Corsair CMT64GX5M2B6000Z30 DDR5 6000Mhz CL30 on an MSI X670E Carbon and 7950X with no issues. They run perfectly at their rated speeds. Although I get the feeling it might be due to one of two possibilities: 1: The Crucial memory he's using. No offense intended to Crucial, but I definitely wouldn't have used those because Crucial exclusively use Micron dies. Micron dies are known to probably be the worst choice for DDR5 this generation. You really want to have Hynix M dies on Ryzen DDR5, but I even would've accepted Samsung dies at CL36 over Micron. I don't mean to rag on Micron, because it's a generally good company for a lot of products. They just missed the mark with their DDR5 this time around. 2: If that's the same CPU Jay used before he switched to Intel (which it sounds like it is), he originally complained that the memory issues he had with that CPU became worse over time, the more he used it. During that same time that it came out that motherboards, especially Asus, which is what Jay originally used, were pushing way too much voltage to the SOC which was physically damaging CPUs. So I'm kind of wondering if Jay actually completely managed to dodge damage being dealt to his CPU during that time frame or if his CPU is "functional" but actually faulty. As he said, he originally hit 6000Mhz, but his system stability got worse over time until he couldn't hit it anymore. That description sounds like it could be possible degradation damage over time. So I wonder if he still wouldn't be able to 6000Mhz if he tried a new 7950X3D that was never used while that SOC damage event was ongoing.
Something's wrong with either these crucial sticks/compatibility. i didn't hear about issues with 7800x3d or 7950x3d and 6000mhz ram. These crucials pro I think are standard 1.35v and have EXPO, should be fine but isnt. They have Micron most brands use Hynix dies but it would be such a stupid reason…
4x16GB at 6200C32, checking in. 7950X3D and X670E Aorus Master. They're 5600C36 kits (which POST and pass TM5/Y-Cruncher at their XMP profiles), just bumped VDD to 1.4v and tightened timings from there. Also not sure why Jay always seems to have cursed memory compatibility, but it shouldn't be too hard to get it running at 6000MT with minor adjustments. Going straight to -30 PBO CO on a dual CCD part is also a pretty bad idea. It's almost certainly not stable, and it'll either crash on OCCT Core Cycler ST rotation, Y-Cruncher or during desktop idle. If you're going to OC, do it right.
I can't believe I had to scroll so far to find a comment about this. Same here though. I don't understand it. Maybe he's not updating to the latest BIOS? No issues running a TeamGroup 6000 CL30 kit in mine. Been running strong since November 2023 when I built my system.
I built a 7800x3D based system for my nephew at the end of last year and I put 2 16GB sticks of Kingston Fury Beast DDR5 in it running at 6000MHz and he's had no problems at all.
I don't know why almost 0 youtuber talks about that XMP/EXPO is not a 100% working technology, it just not works for everyone out of the box.. if you have crashes or wierd freezing then you either has to switch it off (or if you are lucky then you have another profile on lower freq) or if you have the knowledge (99,999999999% of the PC users lack that) you can tinker in the BIOS and with some experimenting you can adjust the timings/freqs and it will work fine
I know it probably doesn't mean anything, but I have been running a 7950X3D for well over a year now with ram at 6000mhz. No crashes, and 24hr memtest stable (yes I went through the effort to test this). Since Jay has this issue on 2 separate motherboards and ram kits, it makes me wonder if the memory controller on his cpu is a dud. There are many people that have no issue running 6000mhz ram on ryzen x3d parts. Something's off here.
Bro! That's awesome! I'm replacing my 'at it's end' 4970k and 1070. The last of my parts is the 7800x3D and motherboard. Went a little extra and got an rtx 4080 super. Can't wait.
I sold my AM4 platform while it still had value and bought an AM5 platform. Started with a 7600X and have a 7800X3D, now. So happy I didn't shoot myself in the foot by investing in a dead platform, because I can buy so many more AM5 chips without having to touch my motherboard.
@@rustler08 I didn't see a point of 2-2,5x investment in AM5 for the 20% gain of 7800x3d over 5800x3d, as I'm currently using 3080 and see no reason to upgrade. I'll probably wait until 6080, or 6080S/Ti, in which case I'll just go for the whole new PC and sell the current one as a set, rather than individual parts.

I'm going AMD this time, because I don't care what anyone says, the Intel 13900/14900 are 8-Core processors, and I need more cores. E-Cores are for laptops, not production systems. If Intel actually releases and supports Battlemage, then I'll put together an all Intel system for that, but I'll probably go X299 instead of 15th Gen (especially after what 13/14 Gen has done). I run a 7950X3D with the Gigabyte X670E Master. I use the G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series AMD EXPO 32GB and I've had zero problems running it at 6000 for over a year now.
Any issues otherwise with your build and the 7950X3D? That's the exact (well, different Aorus/GB mobo, but still in the family lol) combo that I'm wanting for my new build. I really want 64GB of RAM with 4 sticks, but for some reason AM5 just won't let us lol. Hopefully the new 9k series and new chipsets will fix that.
I'm so glad I landed on the AMD side of things when I finally chose to upgrade. I was mainly doing it for budgetary reasons, but the fact that I'm not having to deal with the fallout from all this nonsense is just a huge plus.
Yep, my first AMD since almost 20y or so (Athlon XP Barton) and also my first AMD GPU pretty much ever. 24GB of VRAM for a lower price than the 4080 and having crazy CPU efficiency is awesome.
I was one of the people who got burned on the i9 chip --- ironically, it was a gift when brand-new from a techy acquaintance -- and the money it cost me to replace that chip and board (with AMD) was painful. Thanks for nothing, Intel.

5700X3D is substantially cheaper over here (185eur vs 300 currently) for a comparatively small performance loss over the 5800X3D, so getting the latter doesn't really make any sense at this point. Also if the tray version is cheaper, get that one over the boxed. Neither of the boxed X3D ones come with a cooler so it's kinda pointless to pay more for it... unless you want the cardboard box as a showpiece or something lol

@codcade, yeah, while there are some driver issues, so is there with nvidia GPUs as of lately. The difference is that AMD seems a lot more prosumer. 1. FSR are available to different GPUs including Nvidia GPUs as it is software while DLSS is bound to the graphic series you are on, forcing you to buy new GPUs 2. Having an older AMD GPU they still show you love by keep releasing optimizing driver updates, not so much on Nvidia, again forcing you to buy a new GPU. I just switched away from Nvidia solely because the 4000 series is pure trash, and Nvidia is very anti consumer. I haven't looked back. I have zero issues and it is performing like crazy!
the 4090's dual encoders help a lot in video workstations, you can either half the time to encode by encoding alternate frames at the same time, or encode 2 videos at once per card. if it was something not so encoder dependent, then i could see Jay throwing an RX 7900XTX in there.
You can’t use it for everything. I have a Einstar 3D scanner for example and need a NVIDIA card. Stable diffusion runs only on NVIDIA too. So it depends on your needs if you can use a AMD card. And AMD cards are harder to repair too.

Although I get the feeling it might be due to one of two possibilities:
1: The Crucial memory he's using.
I also have 7800x3d with 32gb 6000 ram CL32 (2×16).. no issues at all. Not sure what all the ram issues are about, as I have not had any issues.

Not even three minutes, and an uncensored f-bomb. That shows you how much Jay loved the products EVGA made.

Asrock 4% (parent company Asus)
Gigabyte 14% made in China/Taiwan
MSI 14% made in China/Taiwan

Going to the 7800X3D after being a 14900K owner who had his CPU overvolt itself and die, already underclocked and undervolted is like going from being kicked in the balls repeatedly to being stranded on Hawaii with Catherine Zeta Jones.
if you are not capable of adjusting voltages then i don't understand why you bought a 14900k anyway
I have that gpu and I love it
@@MikeZak101 that's not the point. you shouldn't have to, products shouldn't self immolate at stock settings. Period! I love tweaking CPUs but, that's not something that should be expected of owners.

Team RED for the win!
Been off Intel/Nvidia and using AMD since I picked AM5 and RX 7k for my new build, haven't been disappointed and haven't looked back.
AMD is definitely the right path for now if you're looking to build.
I am using a 7950X3D with 4 sticks of Hynix A-Die RAM and is able to post on 6000CL30 on a B650M Aorus Elite AX, but is only fully stable at 5200CL30. With 2 sticks it's fully stable at 6000CL30.
For a split second, at 3:35, "Universe is unlicensed" image popped up? "Please launch the Maxon App and sign in to your account". What the heck was that?! :)
Probably an editing error
Apparantly a known glitch in the editing software, where it decides to without reason 'unlicense itself' for a split second.
I thought it was a joke for a second until I checked the comments ;)
Glitch with that editing software.
Interruption in the studio?!
What the frick?! A missed censor?

Right. Beige however nearly hides it all. I use a Model M keyboard and it gets dusty and I can't even see the dust on it until I brush a finger across it
Not that I'm questioning you, but I just made sure when I built my new machine (ASRock X670E Steel Legend mobo), I made sure to get RAM that was on their QVL and I've had zero issues running 6000MHz RAM.

I love the the love for EVGA that Jay has. I still consider my EVGA 3070 the crowning jewel of my PC.

I'm surprised he didn't go with the 7800x3d. But hey, it's his system that can do whatever he wants.
He won’t be using it anyway. It will sit in the corner.
Weird that after a good run with 12th gen, the 13th and 14th gen suddenly decided to die on itself. I guess internal changes suddenly yeet itself to oblivion.
Better luck next time, Intel.
Yeah speaking of 12th gen am still using my 12700k and doing fine no issues what so ever. So glad I did not upgraded sorry meant downgraded to a 13 or 14th gen cpu. If intel does not get their act together I be going with AMD on my next build

In Romanian we say “do as the priest says, not as he does”. This is exactly what they mean 🤣🤣
Jay gotta keep this for at least a year. If he switches back to Intel before then, then Nick and Phil should be allowed to "cable manage" Jay's new Intel build any way they want.
Maybe switch the CPU at the end of the year for a 9950X3D !
💯
Phil squirting his creative juices all over Jay's assembly efforts had me drooling over the music choice - I love instrumental synthesiser.
I wish you guys would note the sources (artist, track name) when you do this. (Help, please?)
The sounds and style remind me a LOT of Sundial Aeon - modern (and significantly superior imho) Polish version of Tangerine Dream.
However, without any reference or lyrics to search for, instrumental tracks like this are nigh on impossible to find.
My 5800X3D still kicking ass, i didn’t feel the need to upgrade to anything yet.
But i might get a 9950X3D for my flight sim setup later.
Give it 3 years, ands it performing like a r7 3700x too. DDR5 platforms will last longer due more bandwith.
i'm satistisfied with the cpu too, enough that i could skip am5 entirely. but... the I/O is getting outdated. pci-e gen3 sucks, and i want the new fast fancy USB ports and all that jazz. if i upgrade to AM5 someday, it'll be because of that, not the cpu
Not sure why yours can’t handle ddr5. My setup is nearly the same just different manufacturers and my ram actually very easily switched to 6000

@@codcade pssst... it's not 2008 any more, bro.
@codcade, yeah, while there are some driver issues, so is there with nvidia GPUs as of lately. The difference is that AMD seems a lot more prosumer.
1. FSR are available to different GPUs including Nvidia GPUs as it is software while DLSS is bound to the graphic series you are on, forcing you to buy new GPUs
Jay switching to AMD for 2 months again.
