Great video Jason it will become my new build for 2025. You have made it very easy to build a 9800x3d computer. I like the comparisons for various components and your honesty about what makes sense in a build w/o spending a fortune. Hi to Sarah and the Kitties
FYI, at DDR5-8000 you should have the FCLK at 2000MHz because in 2:1 mode that equals a 1:1 ratio between the memory controller and the infinity fabric. This way you get lower latency, so DDR5-8000 is quite a bit faster than DDR5-6000, unless it's not actually fully stable, because you also need quite a good motherboard to be able to run 8000. (To be clear, it's still not worth the extra $100-$150 for the DDR5-8000 kit)
I have a 9800x3d coming in the mail and I bought an ASUS TUF x670e for about $5 more than the b650e-f. It doesn't have quite as nice RGB but it has PCIe 5.0 and the same power phase as the mag b650 tomahawk wifi. I'm very excited to put it together this weekend and upgrade from my i5-9600K!
Heck yea a new champion!!!! Great video Jason and thank you for taking the time to tell your viewers what build would work with the 9800x3d. Much appreciated!!!!! Stay well!!!!!!
You're looking good sir! can't wait for your 500k subs! will be really well deserved I'm still rocking my 5800x3D bought it when I saw your videos before.
Actually Jason since Zen4 the IF is decoupled, if you look at in-depth reviews the IF is double rate half width, nevermind the data transfer through the IOD. It simply isn't synchronous, DRAM has high burst rates but is slow changing cacheline. Buildzoid did an in-depth on Zen memory over-clocking and the key is to run the bottle neck memory controller as fast as it can reach stably. Some reviewers had great results tightening timings and pushing DRAM to 6400 improving 9700x performance greatly. The problem naturally is YMMV, other chips may simply not reach 6400.
Good morning Jason /Mrs. Jason, Crew and Kitties! . . . . this is my new cpu (9800x3d) for my retirement build!! just gotta wait for the upcoming gpu's . . . i'm sure it will smoke my 2018 3900x 😆
Hello! Would the Asrock PG B650E Riptide work well with 9800X3D and is the motherboard considered premium for the build? I'm still between getting either the Asrock PG B650E Riptide or the MSI Mag B650 Tomahawk, thank you!
The Riptide has a Gen 5 GPU slot, while the Tomahawk has upgraded audio. Both have fairly good USB features. Those are the only differences. I'm still not sold on the value of Gen 5 GPU slots ... but I could see it for a 9800X3D build. Tomahawk X670E is currently $239 if you want the best of both.
Upgrading my build for Christmas, just got the 9800X3D to go with the MSI X870E Carbon Wifi Mobo, GSkill Neo 6000MHZ CL30 64GB kit and my MSI Suprim 4090. Should be a sweet Xmas.
I managed to snag a 9800X3D today, upgrading from a Ryzen 9 3600x with a 3090. Can I expect a big difference in performance? Gone for an X870e Taichi motherboard too…
Hey Jason I recently got a ryzen 9 7950X for my gaming/work station rig with a 7900XTX. Im thinking of returning it to get the 7950X3D for the extra performance, what do you think of this chip?
I think it depends on the level of production work you do! If you are doing professional level work and a lot of it the 7950X or 9950X are great. Also depends on if you have a high end GPU that makes sense with a 9800X3D
Quick question with regards to ram, I am running 4 corsair DDR4 sticks at 3600mghz (64mb total). I have a i7-11700k with a hell hound 7900xt. For gaming, would I receive better performance with only 2 dims of ram (lowering it to 32gbs)? Or is it unaffected with DDR4 ram? I got the extra 2 dims for the looks, but not sure how much it is hindering my performance.
If younare getting the full speed of the ram you should be fine. I also had 4 sticks of ram in my ddr4 build but I have upgrade to a new build since then.
The X870 Pro RS has a really good price on it right now for anyone looking to step up from the 6XX series, and based on HW unboxed's x870(E) benchmark, stands relatively high in most tests compared to the 500$+ boards
Great Video! What do u think regarding the new 5000 series from Nivdia? If im gonna buy now a 9800X3D with an 870e Motherboard, do i need to buy a new motherboard for the new nvidia graphic cards?
9800x3d already bought. But will be paired with a 5090. So have to wait to build. For now I have in mind as well: Asrock x870e Nova, 6000mhz DDR5 gskill CL30 32 GB, SN850X (1x 4TB and 1x 2TB), 1200W Seasonic Vertex PX, Noctua NH-12a. Don't want to upgrade for 5 years after this. Running fully watercooled system now, 3080 + 5900X
Thanks for your guide, i shopped some parts and really are happy since my build is almost like your build (with minor changes for the cooler and the x870 elite motherboard (it was a deal which was 10 bucks more then the b650) im super stoked to see my maschine running and im awaiting my parts everyday now :D
im very new to pc build and just wanna ask that when building a pc. Is ssd heatsink necessary for the motherboard that comes with thermal pad? and do you need hdd in the build as well or the ssd is just enough? thanks a lot
No the heatsink is not necessary. I would say it is necessary if your motherboard doesn't have a heatsink for whatever reason. No you don't need an hdd and the ssd is much faster but comes in smaller sizes like for example ssd's max storage is 8 terabytes which is a lot of space but hdd's come in 20 terabytes or more. I would go with an ssd for faster speed and storage.
@@MrAnimescrazy thanks just another question is that when ur motherboard come extra thermal pad for ssd. Do u only peel the plastic of the one u using? or do u have to peel off all the plastic just in case the motherboard gets hot and melt the plastic?
I have a 4080 paired w/ a 7950x streaming, gaming PC with multiple peripherals attached. Would the 9800X3D be able to handle it, or would the 9950X be better paired for the multiple tasks and background processes? Thanks in advance for the help. Not many videos on gaming/streaming benchmarks.

Looking for some perspective without any hate because I genuinely would like to understand it. I totally understand only testing at low resolution to get the most accurate results for a specific CPU. You're basically putting max pressure on said CPU workload. And I get why the majority do that. Me personally, I want to see BOTH types of benchmarking, because I do see interesting results when you benchmark at higher resolutions, sometimes you see results that don't quite make sense if you are in the "only benchmark in low resolution" camp. I want both types of benchmarking because I have a 4090 and 7900x3d (I only have the 7900x3d because my 7800x3d died and I had to send it in for replacement, but they only had 7900x3ds in stock...). I'm considering upgrading to a 9800x3d IF the results in real world (I play 4k resolution) actually warrant it. I understand playing in 4k is going to limit basically every game because they are going to be GPU bound. But I am just trying to understand why some results show for example, my 7900x3d have better results at higher resolution than the 9800x3d or 7800x3d. Silicon lottery? I have no idea. I would genuinely like to know from someone truly knowledgeable in that category, because I don't wanna spend a lot of money on a 9800x3d if it's not going to help in my particular situation playing in 4k. Why in certain scenarios, is a 7900x3d outperforming a 9800x3d at higher resolutions in the same game?
I want to Build it in a corsair2000d whis is the best aio in terms of cooling you think? The case is not the best in terms of temps so i want to give it the best aio i can find
Hey Jason. Could you do like a quick recomendation on a future video, on portable cases? Like small ones, or some with handles or somethin. As a truck driver I want to have it with me to game while wait at unloads and stuff like that, and when I come home I'll do some video editing of the videos I get from the road, so the case is very important for me. Thanks for all your hard work and, always, great insights and recomendations.
I laughed when you mentioned the mounting screws on the Arctic coolers! I have a Liquid Freezer 3 240 and wanted to use a contact frame but couldn’t because the screws wouldn’t catch/thread unless I took it off. The amount of pressure I was applying and it still wouldn’t take - made me sweat, and that’s no exaggeration.
If you like that board and can grab it, go for it. Only 2 audio capacitors for a $349 board isn't my favorite, though if you don't need the onboard audio it does have a lot of connectivity. X670E tomahawk on sale right now for $239 with very similar features.
@@PCBuilderChannel Can you tell more about having only 2 audio capacitors? I ordered that board myself too. How would having 2 audio capacitors affect the use compared to other boards with more capacitors? Very few reviews of that board and even fewer talk about stuff like that.
Man there is nothing I want more than a nice looking white board that has at least 3 ssd slots, 3 pcie slots ... and..... A DAMN OPTICAL AUDIO PORT!!! my b-550f from almost 5 years ago is the perfect motherboard in my opinion, it's just that there is no am5 equivalent that isn't 500$+ there are a few boards with a lot of ssd and pcie slots, but man, all the boards with a toslink audio port cost way too much Jason, Do you know of any boards under 300 that fit those descriptions? 3+ Ssd slots, 3+ pcie slots, and an optical audio port?
i got a free upgrade to my laptop after they failed to fix it 3 times and its quite the upgrade :P the cpu is the same but even the intergrated graphics of this one are better then the a370m gpu that was in my other laptop i got a 4070 gaming laptop, might have to upgrade the ram bc 16gb is not cutting it with the apps i need for uni, might aswell go big to 64GB ram and get 2tb ssd since i can thanks to my uni giving me some money to use for my education :)

@@PCBuilderChannel Me too, only thing I'm unhappy about is the rear fan being non-ARGB but that's easily replacable
I also went the white Lian Li 216... WOW !! Great case. 🥰🥰
For this build would you recommend? Gskill royal ddr5 32gb 6000 cl28 and expo
There's no gaming benefit to using faster SSDs until you need to download 120GB game..
That 4090 is way HEAVY for you Sir. Good content, i have just made my upgrade path complete.
Got to get my work out in!
What parts did you pick?
are you really jason? I keep forgetting, glad youre reminding me every video.
I'm not sure, let me check . . . . . . WELCOME BACK TO PC BUILDER, I'M JASON!! . . . . yup that's me :)
Heck yea a new champion!!!!
Great video Jason and thank you for taking the time to tell your viewers what build would work with the 9800x3d.
Much appreciated!!!!!
Stay well!!!!!!
Thanks Moon!!! :)
exciting I heard the 16 core x3d is going to be the best for gaming tho which is insane even more performance on the table
Im doing a new build around the 9800x3D as as always you have outdone yourself, alll the info i needed right here in the video. 10/10 channel.
16:46 Build approved!
Lisa the Cat says so! :)
You're looking good sir! can't wait for your 500k subs! will be really well deserved
I'm still rocking my 5800x3D bought it when I saw your videos before.
Can it run Monster Hunter Wilds?
Yes
I'm glad I waited! Thank you, Jason
Yay!!! :)
Hello jason, i already have thermalright pa 120 mini cpu cooler, will it enough to handle this cpu?
thanks jason! with the upcoming 9800X3D, i waited a long for your video because i want to buy that new processor for my pc
Best wishes on the new build!! What do you plan to pair it with?
What are your pc specs?
You never disappoint. The best reviewer for the average joe that needs some advise and education on this subject. Not even close.
I got a b650 tomahawk. Great board. Ill wait for the 9800 to drop in price.
Good morning Jason /Mrs. Jason, Crew and Kitties! . . . . this is my new cpu (9800x3d) for my retirement build!! just gotta wait for the upcoming gpu's . . . i'm sure it will smoke my 2018 3900x 😆
Ohhh exciting!!
Have you picked the gpu to buy?
@@MrAnimescrazy rolling the dice on the new AMD stuff
Hi jason! Do you recomend the 7600xt ASROCK version? Its dual fan but what about asrock? Are they good gpu builders?
Yes asrock are good.
Thank you! Just what I was looking for 😊
So glad to help! Thanks for watching
@PCBuilderChannel I see, I'll go with the Tomahawk X670E then! Thank you for the quick response
Upgrading my build for Christmas, just got the 9800X3D to go with the MSI X870E Carbon Wifi Mobo,
GSkill Neo 6000MHZ CL30 64GB kit and my MSI Suprim 4090.
Should be a sweet Xmas.
Nice! Best wishes on the upgrade!
Im building this exact build, Im copying it! Thank you
Happy to help! I think you will love it
@@PCBuilderChannel I just went to micro center and made the purchase!!
What do you think of the Asrock B650E PG Riptide?
Look at hardware unboxed b650e motherboard video.
planning to get 9800x3d with the Arctic Freezer 36 (black-argb) will that be good enough for gaming? with good enough temp
Yes it should be good.
@@MrAnimescrazy alright thanks!
hair is looking sweet jay! looking to upgrade my high end pc from 2021 lol
What is your budget and do you have a parts list?
What do you think of the thermalright 420 version ? I was thinking about grabbing that for my obsolete i9 13900k.
It should be good but see if you can find videos or reviews.
Reviews of the 9800X3D are glowing. What we don't yet know are availability and actual pricing.
Yep! The MSRP pricing we know the availably is rough right now so you will see scalpers trying to sell it for crazy prices for a while
I managed to snag a 9800X3D today, upgrading from a Ryzen 9 3600x with a 3090.
Can I expect a big difference in performance? Gone for an X870e Taichi motherboard too…
Yes that will be a huge gain in performance.
Hey Jason, I'm thinking about getting the 9800x3d as an upgrade. I've never upgraded a CPU before. Do you have a video explaining the process? Thx!
There are videos on youtube and what are your current parts list?
So does the MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI work with the 9800x3d?
Quick question with regards to ram, I am running 4 corsair DDR4 sticks at 3600mghz (64mb total). I have a i7-11700k with a hell hound 7900xt. For gaming, would I receive better performance with only 2 dims of ram (lowering it to 32gbs)? Or is it unaffected with DDR4 ram?
I got the extra 2 dims for the looks, but not sure how much it is hindering my performance.
If younare getting the full speed of the ram you should be fine. I also had 4 sticks of ram in my ddr4 build but I have upgrade to a new build since then.
Your advice is Aways Highly valuable Jason! Thx Much for this Video!
So glad it was helpful!
The X870 Pro RS has a really good price on it right now for anyone looking to step up from the 6XX series, and based on HW unboxed's x870(E) benchmark, stands relatively high in most tests compared to the 500$+ boards
Bought the 9800x3d running on a asrock x870e tachi. Now i only need the 5090 to run the pimax crystal light on 120hz full res.
Great Video! What do u think regarding the new 5000 series from Nivdia? If im gonna buy now a 9800X3D with an 870e Motherboard, do i need to buy a new motherboard for the new nvidia graphic cards?
No you won't need a new motherboard
Wow, the amount of information that is given blows my mind. I can't wait to see/learn more!
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you found this one informative and hope you keep enjoying the channel :D
Was waiting for your video man. Cool cool cool!
Thanks for your guide, i shopped some parts and really are happy since my build is almost like your build (with minor changes for the cooler and the x870 elite motherboard (it was a deal which was 10 bucks more then the b650) im super stoked to see my maschine running and im awaiting my parts everyday now :D
Amazing! So glad we could help!
Most helpful videos out there for this guy who hasn’t paid attention to gaming pcs for 12 years
So glad you're enjoying all the content. Thanks for watching!
9800X3D looks great. Not an upgrade from 7800X3D levels of great, naturally =P but fills me with hope for the 11800X3D.
Yes it's at least a worthy successor, and we've had a shortage of that lately in the PC space!
What do you mean? Compared to 5800X3D vs 7800X3D uplift?
im very new to pc build and just wanna ask that when building a pc.
@@thanhhxz take off all of the plastic from all pc parts
@@MrAnimescrazy thanks heaps
hmm for the ram i got only CL 38 in switzerland, i dont finde the CL 30. Is this a problem or can i take the CL38 ?
Cl38 is slower then cl30 or cl28. Buy the ram online if you can't find it anywhere in Switzerland.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D and RTX5090 ftw!
Yup
Please i need an answer , I'm lost , should i go for this motherboard or an x670e, and if x670e a good choice which one msi or asrock or asus ....
Personally I stand by my picks from the video. Expand the description for links
i cant wait for skitzo review from userbenchmark
Hey Jason great vid ... I plan on using a 4070ti super, along with gaming would this be a good combo for stream and editing as well? Thanks for your knowledge keep spreading it.
Yep good combo!
gonna be waiting until black friday to hopefully get a really good deal so i can build a 7800X3D with 7900XTX build
That will be a nice high end build.
Currently I have my 7800x3d paired with 4080 super definitely budget wise I’ll stick to it but I’ll love to experience the 9800x3d
Your content is top notch - love the great focus on finding optimal value to performance. I also Walt’s enjoy that you include your feline build companion in the video 🐈

couldnt be more satisfied with this build!
Hopefully it can be future proof for the upcoming GPU in 2025! :D
Yes the build should be good. If you can I would buy cl30 or cl28 ram and a bigger ssd.
Can you help me? What do you think about this two motherboard´s with 9800x3D - MSI B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI AM5 or Gigabyte B650M DS3H
Of the two the first is better.
@@PCBuilderChannel I am very grateful for your answer, Thank you so much!
I’m building a pc for the first time and just got a 7800x3d. Should I return it and get the 9800x3d instead? They’re both the same price on Amazon rn.
Love your channel. Consistently no BS and straight to the point. My regards to Mr Bear ❤️
So glad you're enjoying the channel! Mr. Bear says hello :))
Why in certain scenarios, is a 7900x3d outperforming a 9800x3d at higher resolutions in the same game?
would pairing a 7800xt with the ryzen 9800x3d be a huge bottleneck?
I don't recommend that because you would get more performance by dropping to a 7600X and pairing that with a stronger GPU
I want to Build it in a corsair2000d
whis is the best aio in terms of cooling you think?
The case is not the best in terms of temps so i want to give it the best aio i can find
Do you still need help and what is your budget?
The jonsbo z20 or the deepcool ch160. There are many more cases. Look up lunchbox cases to see what you want.
currently on an mpg z390 with a i5-9400f... think its time to upgrade to the 9800X3D. Just wondering if i should go with a b650.. or a b850 :)
I recommend B650 personally. See our "Best Motherboard for Ryznen 9000" video for more
Any really good cases with easy vertical mounting for a large GPU?
Check out our Best PC Case 2024 video for more options!
Its so frustrating because I love that AIO but what a pain!
I've been eyeing that 870e phantom nova board. It seems like amazing price to performance. It's sold out everywhere though.
Man there is nothing I want more than a nice looking white board that has at least 3 ssd slots, 3 pcie slots ... and..... A DAMN OPTICAL AUDIO PORT!!!
my b-550f from almost 5 years ago is the perfect motherboard in my opinion, it's just that there is no am5 equivalent that isn't 500$+
there are a few boards with a lot of ssd and pcie slots, but man, all the boards with a toslink audio port cost way too much
Jason, Do you know of any boards under 300 that fit those descriptions? 3+ Ssd slots, 3+ pcie slots, and an optical audio port?
Look at x670e boards... There's certainly some with the slots and optical and prices are coming down as they're being clearanced for new 870e boards
i got a free upgrade to my laptop after they failed to fix it 3 times and its quite the upgrade :P
the cpu is the same but even the intergrated graphics of this one are better then the a370m gpu that was in my other laptop
i got a 4070 gaming laptop, might have to upgrade the ram bc 16gb is not cutting it with the apps i need for uni, might aswell go big to 64GB ram and get 2tb ssd since i can thanks to my uni giving me some money to use for my education :)
