I think a 7600 or 7700 is appropriate given the price of the 7800X3D with the 9800X3D sitting around the corner waiting to release. Am still good with my rig, been helping my friend price storage lately.
Upgraded to aorus b650e elite ax ice, 7800x3d, Corsair 6000mhz cl30, 1050w PSU. Now I'm just trying to stop my self upgrading my GPU till next year. Rx 6800 is fine till Nvidia 5000 or 7900xtx drops like a rock. £700ish budget
I really admire Jason's build recommendations because he keeps a laser focus on bang for buck performance but still brings home the aesthetics that people are looking for.
I think no matter the build, always expect at least one component to be on sale a week after you've built the damn thing. Love your helpful format and I gotta say thanks for making the channel approachable to newcomers. Long live the Master Race!
Wow, I'm thrilled that this got on an episode. This build was for my wife's first PC. (Already been built). We ended up squeezing the budget a little for a pink 4070 GPU. Funny that you put the Vetroo v240 AIO on there because I originally was going to use that, but everyone & their brother kept telling me that an AIO was unnecessary. Ended up going with Team Group for the RAM & found the Adata m.2 SSD on my own. We plan to add more storage down the road. The SSD in the case is meant to be the OS drive. Overall, I think I did pretty well for my first build. 25:35 I'm now working on a build for myself that will be a power-house 4k gaming rig.
@PCBuilderChannel Thanks. Seeing your recommendations was validating on whether I made good choices in the end. I feel like I did pretty well. The case was the money pit, but my wife really wanted that specific case for the pink theme. The only part I didn't end up liking was cable management between the fans & the controller. The fans only had daisy chains for the 3-pin connection but not the 4-pin. Getting them all to reach in that case was...frustrating.
If you wanna go another level up on aesthetics (and way up on price), you could get a NZXT Kraken Elite 240 or Z53 in white. They are AIOs with an LCD display so you can show a cute animated character as the centerpiece of your build. There is a cheaper kraken non-elite, but it has a much smaller display inside a black circle which is not as appealing.
"It's about getting you what you want, when you want it" Exactly sir! So many people let waiting for great deals stop them from getting good deals, and others wait so long they miss stock entirely.
Happened to a colleague of mine. He could have bought a RX 7900 GRE for €520,- Inc. tax. The model was even excellent tested on our nations biggest hardware website (edit = Inc. tax)
Yeah, money is always tight these days, but i would kick myself way harder waiting for rock bottom prices just to wind up missing out entirely, or having to wait months longer for that pricing again. I understand that saving 20 bucks here. And 10 bucks there adds up, heck i still do budget am4 builds for people just getting into the hobby, so yes i deal hunt for that tier of hardware, but having the parts for 10 or 20 bucks more than someone who spends all day refreshing newegg and jawa to get the best possible price is worth it to garauntee you get the parts you need to complete the machine and put it into service, rather than have several hundred or over 1000 dollars of hardware just sitting incomplete while you try to save an extra 2% on total build cost on your last few parts is a level of patience i dont really have.
Heartened to see the Vetroo cooler being used. I bought a 5 pipe Vetroo CPU cooler a few years ago and am very happy, good cooling and a very quiet fan and RGB.
I considered waiting for the latest AMD CPU's but boy am i glad i decided to go with the 7800X3D just before the new CPU's came out. Saved me money compared to prices now and the new CPU's turned out to be not worth it anyway.
Exactly this! I understand the urge to wait as nobody wants to build something and then have it no longer be the best a month or two later. But Tech moves fast these days and I urge folks to get what is best for them when they want it.
I haven't made the switch to AM5 CPU's, I still run my desktop with windows 10 and will be doing so for as long as I can. Honestly the Ryzen 5700x3d as a drop in upgrade for anyone still on AM4 is excellent. The biggest downside of AM4 for gaming in 4k is that you're going to want a solid B550 or X570 motherboard that makes use of faster storage, ram, and pice bus bandwidth. Personally I'm still happy with my Windows 10 desktop, I prefer using it over my Windows 11 laptop.
@@PCBuilderChannel I'm extremely confused why you're suggesting your viewers should buy a 7800x3d in the first place?! What's the use case? This CPU is extreme overkill for 95% of gamers.
GPU: look at that chart at 8:22, get the RX6950XT for $279 like I did. A few less fps for $500 savings. It is just insane that people would rather spend $500 more for that 5-10 extra fps.
These were some great builds you put together for these people. I'm considering building a PC for my son. He just started high school, and of course, he games.
I got that Seasonic Focus GX Gold 1000W for $131 off of Newegg. Now I can OC my 6950xt if I want to without tripping. But i found out the main problem with my build was my memory. It was faulty, so I sent it in for replacement and got your recommended Silicon Power sticks!
If your building and looking at getting 4070 GPU watch out we see them been made with slower GDDR6 memory this drops raw memory bandwidth by 5%, so not going to be as good the only reason got one if they cost less than the GDDR6X models so chech memory and make sure your GPU use GDDR6X
Yes the 4070 GDDR6 ones are bad. Nvidia doing its usual shady hijinks. I haven't seen that they are doing that with the 4070 Super models or higher, however.
@@PCBuilderChannel The sad thing is we back to reading the fine print on GPU boxes and can see someone going oh I save tiny bit money and end up with a worst GPU
Hey man i just wanted to say that i stumbled on your videos when starting my PC research in regards to my upcoming build and you are now my go to information source regarding everything PC. I love the knowledge and enthusiasm and your speaking voice sounds like you could be hired for commercials. Ill keep watching your videos to keep me hyped up for my build as i wait for black friday. You are appreciated!
Unfortunately the 7800X3D is sold out everywhere in the US. I might have to start recommending the 7900X when helping people out with there higher end builds. It's currently $339. Yes it's not as good for Gaming but it's at least available and not a terrible price.
Hey Ty! So they are still supplying it (at least it seems that way!). What happens is that when the weekends come they sell out and restock midweek. Demand seems to be massively outstripping supply right now. Whether AMD is doing that or just demand is crazy is hard to tell.
Just wait if you can. They will be cheaper on Black Friday and several other days coming soon. I bought my pc gear last year at this time. I saved a ton. Essentially I paid less than 1200 for an 1800 dollar pc.
@@thehimself4056 not to mention that 600$ in savings can go to a new SHINY OLED monitor XD.....which imo is the best UPGRADE to modern gaming in this mid 2020s era to any "SETUP" oled>everything.
Thanks for hanging in there Jason, I could tell how much it hurt for you to boost a build with a more expensive case setup than CPU. But I do think it highlights an opportunity for case manufacturers. Very few cases come in a different color than white or black.
Yes!!! I think I've talked about this in a previous Q&A at some point, but my issue with things I call the "NZXT Virus" or the "Corsair Virus" is people who want max performance but get fixated on one specific part (Lian Li O11 Dynamic comes to mind!) without realizing how much performance they have compromised. But if a particular aesthetic is the goal - for instance an all white or pink build - then let's do it!
5:57 I don't agree, for 99% of use cases DRAM-less is basically as fast as ones without it, I'd rather spend less and get more storage If you're moving large files around often, the increase in write speed might be nice but for everything else, DRAM-less for cheaper is the way to go nowadays with HMB
Love the energy, very creative, and entertaining, don't feel like i wasted time watching this. Thanks. I just now ordered a Ryzen 7 5800x3d as the max/last upgrade for my AM4 socket. the next step up would probably be my 2070 Super --> 4080 Super but i'll wait until holiday sales. Might also need to up my 750 W Gold power supply to 850W? not sure. Glad I found your channel.
Thank you so much! Appreciate the feedback. That's a smart upgrade you got going on there. Check out our "how to upgrade your pc 2024" video I think that might be helpful
Bought my 7800x3d last black friday. Didni't build the PC until after New Years. Jason had good advice. When the price is right and its something you want, don't be afraid to pull the trgger.
Great video Jason this is why I became a member almost a year ago. To the guy with the pink case buy a white Montech paint it pink save $90😉 and buy an even better GPU
Your updated build is good and I agree with most of your recommendations. You did say you wanted an SSD with DRAM but added the UD90 which is DRAMless. These people seem like first time builders, and usually I'll recommend air coolers (Thermalright PA120 or PS120) instead as they have less failure points but that Aqua Elite V3 is a solid price, can't argue against it. Solid build, solid advice.
i feel sorry for the people who dont have a micro center near them..😔 a bundle from micro center is a blessing especially if you're trying to save some change and get the most for your money. micro center has the 7800x3d for 390.00
at the start of the video i was like "he cant boost this setup except for the rams" but damn i was wrong, 10% price difference he could probably go for the 4080 at that point...
I have that exact pink budget Vetroo tower in my build. Push/pull and it's cooling a 5700X3D.....idles in the high 30s low 40s, max temp under load has been 77 but it sits nicely in the low 70's while I game. And that has been with high ambient summer temperatures in my apartment, which doesn't have AC!! It truly is the little cooler that could🤩💕
I just bought the 7800X3D for $450 lol. I was ready to buy the 9900x so whatevs. Can’t wait! I’m rocking a 11600k so I’m sure this is going to be a huge upgrade!
In the first build I know you went with the persons direction and that is totally fine. I am curious however if a 7500f/7600x plus a 4080 super would give you better performance? I suspect it would be better at 4k just not sure if that cpu would bottleneck at 1440p. Any ideas?
I would personally recommend going for a 7800X3D with that high a GPU if you can. If you can’t that’s ok, you can always drop in an upgraded CPU in the future
Thanks so much for the help! Definitely need to try and buy the CPU (which I sadly can’t do exactly at this moment) and will review everything you’ve mentioned. Still need to be sold on AIO coolers and fish tank cases, the Montech you suggested looks pretty though!
@@PCBuilderChannelthe build is complete and just slightly over budget, many thanks again for your advice! I also took some of your tips from previous videos for some components. 🖥️
23:09 You don’t have to worry about the air cooler? That is the complete opposite of why you get an air cooler. You get an air cooler so you don’t have worry about a liquid cooler. There is no worry with an air cooler
I got lucky one day. Walked into Micro Center looking 👀 just for rgb fans, and saw a 7800X3D going for $279 bucks. I snatched that bad boy up right away!!😊😊
Awesome videos. I think the next motherboard I get will be one of the X870 models, maybe an ASRock Taichi Lite version. I'll be looking to get one with a supplemental 8 pin power header on the board for running multiple video cards (or a monster 5090). I'm not sure that will be necessary tho. Thumbs up!
Seasonic PSUs are relatively expensive in my region too. Okay, they're mostly A-tier on the PSU cultist list, but I'm sure there are others that are just as good or good enough for less.
Yeah, pretty much have a computer right in front of me that I pieced over the last six months. Glad I jumped on the processor, that is a crazy price hike.
It's so disappointing to see AMD embracing such anti-consumer practices, like jacking the price up on Ryzen 7000 because they developed a crappy next generation that nobody is buying. AMD seems to forget that their value prop has been being a good value, with better prices and as good or better performance than Intel. Their focus on AI is likely what's hurting them, and it will cost them market share if they're not careful.
I can't seem to find an answer to this simple question. MSI Afterburner offers four RAM monitors and I don't know which one to use. All I want is to see is how much VRAM is being used during gameplay. Thank you, Richard
Why the prices have gone up? I guess you never noticed they raise the prices in the months leading up to Black friday and then drop them again tricking you into thinking you are getting a discount? If you are building a system, buy the parts around black Friday or just after xmas for the best prices
@PCBuilderChannel Only thing I would change on this build to keep the theme but blow the budget is the PowerColor Hellhound Sakura AMD Radeon 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6 Graphics Card
yeah but id rather have their team group c30 6000mhz ram that isnt included in the bundle....which the ram they offer is similarly priced but is like c40 or c38 at best. As well as an asus board when i really only want an msi/bios these days considering Hell id even consider an asrock board/bios over asus
Reckon it's Worth waiting for 9800x3d? or is this like 6 months away..? also looking that the 870 motherboards are around the corner... Im on all older gen stuff currently apart from a 3080ti that is being bottlenecked. I know you can ALWAYS wait in tech, but feels like a bad time when prices just went up of the 7800x3d?
That totally depends on you. If you’ve got a system you like now and it makes little difference to wait then might as well. If not, make sure you are factoring in the value of your time
Hey! Have been looking into gaming pc’s, as my consoles no longer cut it for fps shooters and story games. Do you think MSI makes quality prebuilt pc’s? Rarely see reviews for them anywhere, and would like to know if they are a good product
nabbed a 7600X for $160 the other day! Unused, open box. and no joke they also had a Ryzen 9 7900X3D unused, open box for $318!!! I didnt need it but i bought this one also!
So glad I built my pc 4 months ago. I got the ryzen 7 7800 for 320 XD. For 2077 dollars I got a 4080 super and ryzen 7 7800x3d, same build would be a few hundred more now
How good is the Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3 ? I haven't seen any reviews of it, only the 360 model. How does it compare to a similarly priced air cooler like the Thermalright Peerless Assassin which costs about 10$ less.
I paid 377 for my x3d in March. I’ve only had the pc put together for about 3 months. I wasn’t even thinking about building a pc when that chip was 320
I bought the Palit Gamerock Classic 4070 Ti in January last year because I didn't want to spend 1350 euros on a 4080. The 4070 Ti was a great card and I never had any problems with the only 12GB of VRAM. This year I sold my 4070 Ti and bought the Gigabyte 4080 Super Gaming OC for 1100 euros. It's a very good card, but compared to my Palit Gamerock Classic 4070 Ti it looks very boring. If I had known that the 4070 Ti Super was coming out I would have waited to buy the normal 4070 Ti but you can't know that but now it doesn't matter anyway because I already wanted to buy the 4080 before and now I have the 4080 Super for 250 euros less and still have a few percent more performance. VRAM is not always the most important thing because when you see that there is only 4 FPS on average between the 4070 Ti and the 4070 Ti Super, it's an absolute joke in my opinion. 4GB more VRAM and 4 FPS more on average...WOW...really intense.
my option would be go for (G-SKILL CL30 32GB 6000 Mhz) insted and (ARCTIC FREEZER iii) watercooler then go for like NZXT H6 flow insted of that H5. DONT FORGET ANTI-SAGG also =D
Not sure when you filmed this Jason build on the “theme build” I would have went for the 6800 which is available right now for less than the 7700xt but besides that stellar build guides as always man 👊👊 **edit I see you addressed this but just in case the person sees this the 6800 is back for the price of less than the 7700xt (it’s $360 on Amazon right now for the xfx speedster) so go for that.
I'm stuck in limbo right now. I held off on upgrading until after my vacation, expecting Zen 5 to offer more than it did. Not that I was planning to buy it at AMD's usual inflated launch prices, but I hoped Zen 4 would drop in price. Now, look what happened-the 7800X3D has spiked, and a new X3D chip is on the way. So, I'm left with two options: either bite the bullet and pay a €70 premium (which keeps rising), or wait for the 9800X3D announcement, hoping prices settle down. Maybe Arrow Lake will shake things up, and I might even have to switch to Team Blue-which I really don’t want to do, considering the current state of things. It's just a frustrating situation all around.
i got a 9950x because my 13900k died and my RMA is literally on week 9 and like I have work to do so.... plus Intel were such pricks the entire process. Gluck getting a dead cpu brooo
If you can wait a few months look into it around the black friday or Christmas sales. They are hiking up the price right now so they can offer better 'discounts' around black friday and Christmas.
When it comes to video cards how much VRAM is best for local AI image generation? Should we go ahead and buy a 4 series RTX or wait for the 5 series? Or is there a better Radeon option? Plus what kind of ports do you need for the newest OLED panels?
Thanks for the awesome content. What motherboard would you recommend for AM5 for a 1080p / 1440p mid/mid+ gaming rig. I've narrowed the build to go either Ryzen 5 7600X with an XTX Rx 7900 GRE / XTX Rx 7800 XT (or if some specials permit Ryzen 7 7700X with Zotac RTX 4070 ti Super / XTX Rx 7900 XT 20Gb). I'm really struggling on the motherboard though, specifically on the many variants of the B650 and X670. I see a good deal on the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX (as well as Gaming AX version about the same) or if should go to Gigabyte x670 Gaming AX. I am worried I am underbudgeting on the MB, and if spend another $100 will could have the Asus Prime X670-P or Gigabyte Auros Elite variants. Just not sure it that important at a Ryzen 5 / 7 gen CPU which will be used exclusively for gaming? Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Prices are insane for the 7800X3D In Germany you can still get it at Mindfactory, but the price. 7800X3D 444,- EUR 7900X3D 455,- EUR 9900X 474,- An the best 8 Core for the price is still the 7700 tray for 216,- EUR You can get a 4070 Ti Super for 802,- and a 4080 Super for 999,- So you can have a 7800X3D + 4070 Ti Super for 1,246 EUR or a 7700 + 4080 Super for 1,215 EUR.
Can see that 7600 or 7700X for people that missed the 7800X3D being cheap. I'm still okay with my rig 12900KF 4090 48gb DDR5 Gskill. I haven't been into the new Nerub-ar Palace raid at all yet to test performance. Unlocked the new earthern LOTR style dwarves so I'll probably level one or more. I think a 7800XT would be good for a lot of people around that 1K mark or trying to make PS5 pro slayer pcs. 6800 might be enough to slay the PS5 Pro.
If he would have gone to Micro center he could have gotten the original PC around 1,800. The 7800x3d in micro center is 389 Plus the corsair is 109, the CL30 6,400 AIO - artic liquid freeze is 99 So he could have done it with OG build and maybe add a 4080
First build didnt look like it had "Problems" in comparison to slight adjustments needed. *Im also not a fan of the 4070 series cards as a whole lol* Also dont sleep on those insane Air Coolers either! Not every build needs another point of failure.
Building a new PC. I mainly do graphic design and video editing and on the side I play rocket league and cod. I have selected the 7900x and the 4060. Would you recommend a better combo? I mainly focus on the productivity performance!
Definitely not that GPU! Especially not for your build goals and especially not paired with that CPU. See our Best CPU/GPU Combo 2024 video to learn about bottleneck. And if you focus is graphic and editing see our 9950X build guide which also is a good list for a 7900X
Sometime next year I'm going to spend probably close to 4000 on my second PC, hopefully I can get into a boost my build before I end up pulling the trigger
I have currently a 7800xt paired with an AMD 7600, 32GB Ram Corsair, 2TB m2 SSD with an Asrock B650M Pro RS, 750W gold, packed in a Bitfenix Nova Mesh SE M-ATX. Basically I built this based on your video, Jason. A friend of mine wants to buy it from me and I am now looking at building a surperior rig. What do you suggest? Thanks Jason!
Hi Man nice videos. Just one question why are you not recommending intel cpu's. i want to build a mid range cpu in India. was looking for intel i5 14600k. Any specific reason to avoid?
Because Intel 13th and 14th Gen K CPUs currently have issues so they're not recommended. There are videos you can watch explaining the problem if you want to know more.
BEAT my old laptop, yet keep the cost under $600. ASUS g752vl, upgradeds: 32g of RAM, 2T m.2 nvme Samsung EVO PLUS 970, keychron v6, 4k 60hz external LG monitor HDMI / displayport. I will need one that has a thunderbolt 3 port at least. Need to keep a Intel CPU. Would like a system that can run Debian Linux with enough power to run Windows 10 in KVM virtualization running 2015 AAA games.
i seen the 7800x3d for $260 a couple months ago. i was like dam because thats the cpu i wanted but didnt have the cash. i got the 7600x for $220. so it was only $40 more. now it shot back up in price.
I got that combo and it works well. Depends on the games you play. I personally play lots of CPU intensive games and I am really happy I went with the 7800X3D instead of a worse CPU and better GPU.
There is always a bottleneck. If you go from playing Space Marine 2 to Victoria 3, a perfectly balanced system will experience two completely different bottlenecks.
i just picked up the 5900x cpu for 250$ well worth it for the mid life of my computer since my 5800x has been way too hot for something in its category . not ready to upgrade platforms yet and the 5800x3d and 5950 are over 300$ and i dont need that much performance
I'm fine with everything but the case. The montech cases I've built in for customers all feel cheap and like I'm gonna snap the parts, my staff feel the same about them we've had about 20 go through our shop.
Hi! How it sounds a pre built rtx 4070ti super 9700x pc at 2000$. Considering the high prices from europe. Should i wait the 5000series for a 5070 or the prices going down at the previous series hoping for a cheaper 4070ti super or even a cheaper cpu?

I'm now working on a build for myself that will be a power-house 4k gaming rig.
Thanks for sending it in and congrats on your build!
@@gtphil1489 that's a cool idea. My wife would dig the animated LCD.
"It's about getting you what you want, when you want it"
Exactly sir!
Yes!
Especially when one would need to save up, or get a few parts once a month.
Heartened to see the Vetroo cooler being used. I bought a 5 pipe Vetroo CPU cooler a few years ago and am very happy, good cooling and a very quiet fan and RGB.
Nice! Its a great cooler

@PCBuilderChannel Thank you, brother. I hope yall are ok with the Hurricanes
My gtx 1080ti is still doing well enough for me
I got that Seasonic Focus GX Gold 1000W for $131 off of Newegg. Now I can OC my 6950xt if I want to without tripping. But i found out the main problem with my build was my memory. It was faulty, so I sent it in for replacement and got your recommended Silicon Power sticks!
Great!!! Yes sadly a certain % of all RAM sticks will fail, and it sucks when you get unlucky! But glad you fixed it!

@@PCBuilderChannel oh okay. That makes sense.
Just wait if you can. They will be cheaper on Black Friday and several other days coming soon. I bought my pc gear last year at this time. I saved a ton. Essentially I paid less than 1200 for an 1800 dollar pc.

@@PCBuilderChannel it's definitely a niche case (hah pun). But it still kinda hurt knowing drop down to reasonable ~$60 mATX case and jump to 7800xt.
Something died inside that man whenever he says"embrace the vibe".😂
It’s a struggle to take away from performance for style but ultimately it’s up to what they want (;

The 7800X3D is only so expensive because it's out of stock everywhere, including AMD's own website. Just wait a little bit.
5:57 I don't agree, for 99% of use cases DRAM-less is basically as fast as ones without it, I'd rather spend less and get more storage
If you're moving large files around often, the increase in write speed might be nice but for everything else, DRAM-less for cheaper is the way to go nowadays with HMB
yeah its weird that the people recommending spending more from dram cache drives have never actually tested the difference

In the first build I know you went with the persons direction and that is totally fine. I am curious however if a 7500f/7600x plus a 4080 super would give you better performance? I suspect it would be better at 4k just not sure if that cpu would bottleneck at 1440p. Any ideas?
My thoughts too. 7800X3D is not giving you more performance than 7600X in 1440p or higher with that GPU in most games.

Yes always get what is good priced for your region!! :)
Yeah, pretty much have a computer right in front of me that I pieced over the last six months. Glad I jumped on the processor, that is a crazy price hike.
Glad you got what you needed!
Thank you,
Richard
Why the prices have gone up? I guess you never noticed they raise the prices in the months leading up to Black friday and then drop them again tricking you into thinking you are getting a discount? Im on all older gen stuff currently apart from a 3080ti that is being bottlenecked. I know you can ALWAYS wait in tech, but feels like a bad time when prices just went up of the 7800x3d?
That totally depends on you. If you’ve got a system you like now and it makes little difference to wait then might as well. If not, make sure you are factoring in the value of your time

Vram size is not for speed....Having extra Vram never hurts. Having not enough V ram does!

Yep! That’s the dilemma for a lot of builders right now
If you can wait a few months look into it around the black friday or Christmas sales.
I love these videos 💪🏻

7900X3D 455,- EUR

So you can have a 7800X3D + 4070 Ti Super for 1,246 EUR or a 7700 + 4080 Super for 1,215 EUR.
The 7800x3d in micro center is 389

Yay!!
Would a 7800x3d be a good pair for a 4070 super or would there be a bottleneck
It's fine though Jason would prefer something higher.
You would get better performance dropping to a 7600 and going up on your GPU choice so I wouldn’t do that personally
Would you say upgrading to 7900xt would be good I don’t want to downgrade cpu because I plan to play lots of cpu intensive games
i just picked up the 5900x cpu for 250$ well worth it for the mid life of my computer since my 5800x has been way too hot for something in its category . not ready to upgrade platforms yet and the 5800x3d and 5950 are over 300$ and i dont need that much performance
Should i wait the 5000series for a 5070 or the prices going down at the previous series hoping for a cheaper 4070ti super or even a cheaper cpu?
can you please get some pc build recommendations (sweet spot) for Deep Learning and Gaming?
hard to consider
thank you
