    Cool video. I find it more interesting when the controversy is about politics/content/social implications than when it's about game quality or playability.
    I'm not really a gamer. I'm 46 and the only 2 consoles I ever had were NES and Sega Genesis. I only had 3 games for Genesis. I did have an old school game boy and a game boy advance. But the NES is far and away my favorite video game system. I'm super nostalgic for it. The other day, I had a video suggested to me that was a review of a mini NES that has every game ever released for the NES in North America (700+ games). The review demonstrated that it was an official Nintendo product and not a knock off. The review was very positive. I also heard from someone I know who has one and someone who knows someone who has one and they all said it's awesome. The video had a link to buy it in the description and I ordered one. It hasn't arrived yet. But I can't wait to play the old classics that I loved and check out some of the popular games that I never had and never played. And I'd like to check out some of the controversial games in this and other videos. I'm awesome at Mike Tyson's Punch Out, The Legend of Zelda, and Contra, but I pretty much suck at all other video games. I'm useless in any game with more than 3 buttons 🤣

    I think this compilation is quite well done!
    That being said, for the younger viewers, count how many times he said "outraged" in an hour and that gives you a pretty good idea as to how much things have changed since the 1980s. Which is to say, not much.
    Quick explanation: as kids growing up in the 80s and 90s we had to deal with the "do it for the children" generation led by people like Tipper Gore. They wanted everything from music to video games censored. But we can turn on the TV at any time and see people pulling off horrific acts on the news.. in real life.. and that particular group said squat.
    However - Elf boy fights 8-bit dragons with a wooden sword. Time to panic cuz it's satanic.
    Sorry for the rant, I grew up around so many of these individuals that it just dredges up those feelings of annoyance from the depths.

      Back when they’d show car chases live and they wouldn’t pull the camera away when the inevitable roll over fatality happens and the chase ends. Can’t have a plumber jump on an evil mushroom as that’ll turn me/kids to violent murdering but I can see a car literally disintegrate as it rolls 15 times on the news because “it teaches you not to do bad things or you’ll end up dead”. 😬😬😬
      Kinda kills the message when you find out years later (thanks internet/Wikipedia!) a couple of those fatalities were ppl with minor things like broken tail lights that had a panic attack due to past ptsd and hit the gas the moment they saw the cop lights. Then it was too late to just pull over because it’s not like your anxiety has calmed down now that there are 15 cops and a helicopter following you….😅😅😅
      Personally. I’d rather have not casually watched people die on the news as a child. . . .
      The car chases we’re just the start, there was so much worse shown too. But remember! Video games will lead you to drugs and gangs! Only the news can show you gory murders! 😂😂😂

    Nintendo removed from Maniac Mansion the nude statue, the skeleton, Edna's lines about tying the male characters into her bed, yet they kept the microwave hamster trick without assigning a rating on the box, but that's none of my business. (meme of Kermit sipping tea)

    It's probably worth noting that Chiller was an unlicensed game and as such it didn't have much distribution. You couldn't exactly go to a KayBee Toys and pick it up, and this was long before Gamestop so most people weren't even exposed to its existence. It was really the arcade version of the game that was controversial and that wasn't exactly an easy machine to find either.

    • @porkfang
      @porkfang 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When I was a kid, we had a mom and pop video store near our house. I remember renting "Chiller" for the NES. I didn't know that game wasn't officially licensed.

    I like how you assume that parent's & critics sparked debates on inappropriate games back in the day while most couldn't tell one game from another. A good example was my aunt, she called all videogames systems, "A Nintendo". It took Mortal Kombat and a DB called Jack Thompson for parents to take their blinders off and pay attention. Still liked your video.

    I dunno why everybody says or thinks Mighty Bomb Jack is a difficult game. When i was a kid in the 90s i owned the game, played it quite a bit and never thought it was particularly hard or difficult. And im by no means a game master, but i did grow up gaming during the best and definitely the most difficult game era.

    Very ice list I knew Chiller was going to be on there. Kind of shocked by most of this list. Punch-Out not so much because I was a kid when the whole Mike Tyson case went on so I remember that. Maniac Mansion I had no idea as a kid was so censored. The only game I have issue with is Taboo. Not for its content being occult, but because that's not a game. I could buy a couple of literal Tarot decks for the cost of that at release. Or even better a Tarot deck and a book on how to read them assuming I ddn't already know how to.

    • @autobotstarscream765

      The true taboo of Taboo was introducing the digitization of everything physical in our lives, replacing all our objects with virtual versions. 🤯

    I loved many of the games on this list and played all of them before reaching age 12. So I wasn't irreparablely harmed by any of them. Bionic Commando was such a great game. I can't tell you how many hours I spent playing Maniac Mansion. One thing you forgot to mention with Punch-Out was the censorship of Vodka Drunkinski. Who became Soda Popinski on the NES. I always thought that was so lame.

    Abadox reminds me of Gradius. Smash TV was very very disturbing. I rented it for SNES. I do appreciate the intent of it though. Much like Hunger Games, it accomplishes exactly the undertones you described.

    In Bionic Comando what to expect about a game placed in nazi enemies?? And they still show a gruesome dead of the final boss that still has resemble to some German dude, so it wasnt modified at all
    The strange is that Raid 2020 was made by Wisdom Tree a company by a "christian" group which makes no sense

    • @autobotstarscream765
      @autobotstarscream765 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That was before they became Wisdom Tree, and they didn't convert due to having a company-wide change of heart, they turned their bootleg games into bootleg Christian games so Nintendo of America couldn't touch them while they could grab some cash from the Christian media movement that gave us VeggieTales, Bibleman, and Colby the Christian Robot.

    90% of the controversies listed here are great proof of why this country (USA) is so dangerously sensitive to this day, and especially how hurtful and dangerous special interest groups and their disingenuous concerns are to general society.

    • @twistysprinkles8586
      @twistysprinkles8586 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I remember right, you could feed near anything to the tentacle, with wax fruit and fruit drinks being the 2 items needed for him to let you pass. Anything fed would vanish from your inventory, possibly causing a game over in the future because you got rid of a key item by accident. It is a very unforgiving game.

    I had to stop watching because this is maybe the most repetitive script I have ever heard. I get that there will be similar stories behind many of these games, but using almost the exact same sentence about family-friendly content almost every time makes it VERY hard to sit through.

    I am just going to go back to what I say about any form of media, the parents of children should always be there to be parents. It is not the media being consumed that should shape the child's life it should be the parent and this problem is still a problem with many other systems beyond media today.

    Sorry for commenting twice, but really, "Rolling Thunder and Smach Tv" was controversial? My mom was a "bigg" holy roller, and she let me play those games when i was like 8.If she would have heard that, my mom would have shut it down. Ps. I kinda like "Rolling Thunder" and play it on the Switch, and yes, it's difficult.

    Nightshade isn't a dark and serious game. It's a goofy comedy that is meant to be taken everything but seriously. "Nightshade strapped to table with a laser descending toward him" What? That doesn't happen at all. There are "Game over" death traps you have to escape from but that isn't one of them. I have a hunch you never played these games and are just reading from a script or maybe even a synopsis that someone else wrote.
    So where in Clash at Demonhead were there skimpy outfits and risque dialogue? You see, you're talking about games I'm very familiar with here. I don't recall any skimpy outfits at all. What "adult humor"? Also what media backlash? Do you have a source? This entire video is ridiculous. You could actually show something on the screen to give examples but you don't even present evidence.
    There's a nes game called Menace Beach, which was turned into a bible game called Sunday Funday. An actual controversy you could talk about is how in Menace Beach, you have to save your girlfriend and as time goes on her clothes are removed. That game was turned into a bible game.
    Would be nice to see some actual controversy in this video.
