    The best part about the new JL/JLU line is now all the aftermarket parts for the JK line will get cheaper.

      Gary Goldberg I saw a review stating get a land rover they leak like crazy, but are super cheap and ready to off road! $2500 found it in the Colorado Spring!

    • @CoelhoSports
      @CoelhoSports 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that one was a '97 bought for $2500 so that guy obviously isn't concerned about warranties or shelling out lots of money. it's a toy. nobody drives a new LR off road. it's always the 2nd or 3rd owner or beyond. if something breaks, you can find used and after market parts and do it yourself with older trucks. even a rebuilt engine or tranny is not that much, unless you're flat broke, and then you wouldn't be off-roading tempting fate.

    Great video of father and son wheelin'. Although it's strange to hear Tommy calling his Dad by his first name. But for the sake of the video, I get it. Both of these 2 door Wranglers look good. But the JK looks awesome. I only have a limited slip diff and after seeing this, I have to save up for at least a rear locker and soon.

      Sacatolas Moreira This is definitely something I've never heard of. I would never call my Dad by his first name. THAT is a lack of respect. I have 2 sons and if either ever called me by my first name, there's going to be a problem!

    Good run, the factory lockers are great, but I love the cloth upholstery in Tommy's JK and so on and so forth,...as long as they're Jeeps, it's the drive that counts, and it looks like fun no matter what.
    By the way Roman,...you weren't the only one who 'reacted' when the Land Rover tipped and swayed there,...except I let out with a word that I shouldn't show here.

    Personally, I think the JK looks much more rough and tumble. Much more badass. Love the simplicity of the design. JL has too many edges and looks more like an SUV than an offroader.
    That being said the JL seems to be a much more capable vehicle from the factory, and much more comfortable and maybe higher quality too. Ill stick to my JK for the sake of character and sentiment, but I have to admit jeep did a pretty damn job continuing the Wrangler name.

    Love ur video’s, and really appreciate this one. Tommy my fav is ur 20 second mod break down. Wife and I are both JK owners, mine is heavily modded and wife is now looking at the JL’s....they are both great Jeeps. Think the JL did a great job of evolving the Jeep without compromising what Jeep stands for (is pricey though). Appreciate that you are comparing them off road, and know that is the reason I follow you guys!!! Thx again, keep the video’s coming!!!

    I miss my JK. it was a 2010. No crazy mods on it, but it had 33’s and a couple tops to play with. Total slug on the highway, but it was awesome taking the doors off in the summer. I had too much of a commute to justify it. Can’t wait to pickup a Wrangler in the future ! Great review TFL

    My thoughts? Get a used stock JK Rubicon that's been driven by some pavement princess for a couple of years. You'll pay new JK sport pricing for something way better. There are very few Rubicon drivers out there that wish they got a Sahara or a Sport, but there are tons of Sahara/Sport drivers out there that wish they got a Rubicon. Especially once they hit a real trail.

      @@street_legal_go_kart7356 true, rear air lockers and manual sway bar is pretty much all you'd need for most off road. The electronics in the rubicon's gonna break real fast

    Nice video. I was milling around in my head everything you guys talked about. Settled on a '18 JK Recon. Had everything I needed, nothing I didn't. And it was much cheaper with the current discounts than a similar JL. Both awesome rigs though. I look forward to more videos. Here is an idea, if you want. Do a tow test on the JK and JL. How well do those tow up the Ike? I'd love to see that, as many Jeepers tow campers and such.

    Great video! Those lockers sure add a lot of benefits to off roading. Have Tommy put in a lunch box locker in the rear since theyre so cheap. Hope you wring the hell out of that new Rubicon while you have it!

    • @zeke7142003
      @zeke7142003 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would never put a lunchbox locker in the rear. That type of locker locks up when torque is applied so you'd be locked at all times unless your foot was off the gas. They work great in the front because they only engage in 4WD,

    I started out with a 2003 TJ. I drove that as a daily driver till i traded that for a 2010 JK Sport. After driving these for 15 years as a daily driver i decided to change things up. I am doing more travel, but i still wanted some off road capabilities, so i traded in the JK for a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I love the comfort of the new Cherokee and the ride going down the interstate. I do miss my JK but I think the Cherokee will do just fine for me. By the way, I love your videos on the Jeeps and your Diff loc series. Thanks for everything you've done for JEEP.

    I have a '18 JK Willys and my brother has an '18 JL Sport Plus and we love both of them! At the Sport level, they're very similar vehicles, some additional creature comforts and a higher price tag are the big differences. I must say, I love what they've done with the Rubicon JL but $60k for a Jeep is a bit out of my price range! Great video!

  • @JwcubTHS
    @JwcubTHS 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some key differences not mentioned: 1. The Rubicon (JK or JL) comes with a 4:1 Rock Track transfer case, versus a 2.72:1 in all other models. 2. The JL comes with larger brakes (Rotor Dia. & Dual Piston Calipers) which make a significant difference when upgrading to 35s. This becomes a necessary safety upgrade - especially on the heavier unlimited models. 3. The Rubicon comes with a more robust D44 (JK)/ M210 (JL) front axle. When shopping back in 2015, we chose a Rubicon Unlimited over a Sahara due to the heavier duty suspension and 4.10:1 axle ratio - strictly for trailer towing advantages. Then we got into off roading and joined a local Jeep Club (Jeeper's Anonymous); looking back, I would sorely regret not choosing the Rubicon. The Rubicon will go places and climb things a Sport or Sahara simply cannot do because of the locking differentials.

    I bought a 2021 willys model with the 2.0 turbo and really like it. So far from what I’ve seen they just added the aftermarket accessories into the factory package. The hurricane 4 cylinder is a little beast also. At the end of the day they are jeeps one fancy from start and one with more open ideas that are endless.

  • @larrys9879
    @larrys9879 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My son had a 2019 JL. It spent more time at the Jeep dealer being fixed than it did in his garage. Check engine lights for Electrical & 4 wheel drive problems. After a 12 week stay at the dealers, waiting on parts, or so they said. He sold the Jeep and got a Tundra PU.
    I was replacing a 97 TJ. I decided to go with a preowned 2015 JK that was in dealer new condition inside and out. It was the Freedom version with leather seats and Alpine sound system. I wanted a Sahara but the Freedom was close enough to satisfy me.
    As far as I am concerned the JK has all the technology I would ever need. The JL has more technology and thus more things that can go wrong or break. I’ve had my JK for a couple of years and I’m totally satisfied with it.

    Excellent video! I think the references to low gear ratio were referring to the 2ND gear acting like a really low gear (like a 1) because you get a higher gear ratio with the lower gears but I can understand if someone mispeaks and says that a 1st or 2nd gear has a low ratio just because it's easy to slip the tongue but usually 1st and 2nd gears have a high gear ratio

    Awesome video! This is exactly what I look for in your videos! I will say that you should have asked that guy in the TJ Rubicon if he wanted to be a part of the video. That would have made a near-flawless Old vs. Young vs. New. Don't worry though; SOMEday, I will be that guy. 14:33 I actually said almost exactly that two years ago on the "Top 10 Essential Off-Roading Tips for Newbies (Part 1 of 2) - DiffLock Ep. 7" video. Ah, found it: "Straight-up: if a Rubicon Hard Rock two door can't get there, then "there" was not meant to be reached." EDIT: Forgot to mention that the appearance by the Discovery was an excellent catch. I can guarantee that there are lots of people out there (including my family) who got their vehicles in part because of you guys and your advice, reviews, and experience.

    Tommy hits the real nail on the head: The new JL is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. Fiat once again "went upscale" and crammed it full of lots of techno whiz-bang that a Wrangler is not supposed to have. Even the JK is far too techno for it's own good. However, at least with the JL now out, the prices will drop on the JKs and they will become more affordable to those of us on actual middle class, suburban dweller budgets. So there is that to look forward to.

    Want to see you guys review a built JL vs a bone stock JL or a ride with a JL, JK, TJ, YJ, and CJ all built to relatively the same level (same size tires, lockers [or no lockers] across the board). A new vs old vs older vs older vs older. Would be rad.

    Tommy, did you consider regearing your JK to 4.56 (or even 4.88 since you have manual, 35s and doing actual offroad)? This would be one of the best mods one could do to a JK hands down!

    The new Jeep looks good. I'm just glad they figured out a way to get Jeeps to be EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE. Seriously though, I love the new Rubi

    Been a fan for awhile but i must say that Tommy is quickly becoming one of my favorites, he has YOUTH on his side LOL. Ok now for my obligatory gripe. I would love to side by side our first run 07 JK 2 door with my first run 18 JL 2 door. But alas Jeep has kept me waiting for what will more than likely be the shortest run of 2018 vehicles ever, the 2 door! Mines been ordered since Feb 1st. And since FCA does not seem to mind screwing with us and giving us nearly useless information on delivery i will continue my crusade of negative comments. FCA has not met my expectations at all.

    • @jlopes68
      @jlopes68 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd be happy with just delivery, chances of me ever taking it back to the dealer even for warranty work is slim. I fix my own shit and being a jeep im sure ill be wrenching. I am happy all the R & D was done before the FCA took over.

    I opted for a '17 loaded up Rubicon over a JL, because of the $10k price difference. The JL's are great, but the JK has had all of its bugs worked out, and it has a much stronger aftermarket. Will be a while before the JL has the same aftermarket support. Oh, the Johnny Lieberman imitation at the end wasn't half bad :P

      Stuka87 you bought a brand new 10 yr old model...when the new one just came out. Not smart.

    • @Stuka87
      @Stuka87 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mid trim JL sports are going for the same price as my fully loaded JKU Rubicon. JL Rubicons are going for 10-15k more than my JK costs. JL's are better, but they arent THAT MUCH better.

    • @mr.particular2062
      @mr.particular2062 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can get a 2018 Jk Rubicon for the same price as a 2018 Sport (not sport S) JL.

    • @jordan_sal413
      @jordan_sal413 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      He made the point of saying his JK has had those 10 years to work the flaws out of them. The JLs are new. We still don’t know their flaws yet. Time will tell.

    • @Stuka87
      @Stuka87 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gi I have been in and driven a JL. They aren’t quieter, their driving feel is roughly the same, the interior and nav system is a lot better, but it’s not worth the price difference. And there is a lot more to reliability than just the engine. It always take 1-2 model years to work out the bigger issues with production. If the price was the same, I would say go JL, but at the time JKs were much cheaper. Plus the after market for JKs is way better currently. If I do trade this JKU in, it will be for a Gladiator.

    If Tommy wants some cheap traction, look into Detroit TruTracs. I've had them in mine for a couple years and I love them. Also the Centerforce clutch and flywheel is much better than the stock one. Both on and off-road but keep a spare clutch slave cylinder handy. I've heard they can have a shorter life span with that clutch. Mine puked its guts out about a year after the install with about 58,000 miles on the old one.
