Perhaps the song didn't receive any airplay and that's sad. Another band gone to the wayside and in time forgotten. That's sad because they weren't given a chance at the big time. Thanks for Y-Tube because we get to listen to these great songs.
For anyone curious about the band, they only ever recorded two songs. This, and the B-side called "Flight Stewardess". There's no photos, no live recordings, nothing. From what anyone can tell this single was pressed for a short period in 1966 on blue vinyl, and never reissued. It has shown up on a handful of "60s garage pop" compilation CDs, but no one really knows who these guys were, or how many of these records are in existence. What's even weirder is that the Check Mate record label only appears on one other record, a single called "Rock-A-Bye Baby" by some singer named Johnny Fiore, and it is also pressed on blue vinyl.
The Mystery makes it all the cooler. I love obscure art stories, brilliant nearly unread novels found in thrift shops, obscure horror flicks seen by few but the stuff of legend, and fun obscure garage/surf/punk/trash/exotica which is shrouded in mystery.
Complete rock n roll, sounds The Cult, mixed with some Rolling Stones and the Kinks. And a little Jefferson Airplane. And to think this is some vintage, virgin protopunk garage. Good find!!
Thanks man. This is a primo jam. 66 years young and I still wow the youngsters at the gym when I bust into the twist and swim with this on the buds. Rock n Roll will never die.
I mean it's the same genre so like of course it will be the same but because it's the same when you are coming to listen to that style you know exactly what you are coming for haha 😉👌
It's that this band sounds great and yet no one knows who they are. If someone does, why don't they step forward before it's too late? It's great if we ever know who these guys were.
This song is basic but tuneful and well crafted. The drummer sounds crude, almost reminds me of a mate called Yian who was a lead guitarist but learned a few beats on a drum kit and did a few gigs for a 3 piece group called Far Canal. They did a cover of the Police's Message in a bottle renaming it; Massage in a brothel.
A direct influence on the "punk" music of the 1970s with the Ramones, Sex Pistols and The Clash. Why does this song remind me of Johnny Rotten? This is the original PUNK music
i think people miss the point, no groups will EVER be able to imitate that mid-60s garage sound. It was the perfect combination of young people, drugs and vintage equipment. The 70s punk thing was of course amazing, but I wouldn't compare it to this, not in a million years.
Great little band from Kitty Hawk, NC. Burning members were Meowcom McDowell-guitar & lead vocal, Benny the Ball-guitar & vocal, Katz Stevens-guitar, Felicia Furr-bass, Heaven T. Murgatroyd-drums. McDowell was the top cat, the indisputable leader of the band.
I remember in the 80‘s . We have so much subculture in Germany! I was a Young Psychobilly and my girlfriend was a Skinheadgirl. We Go out in a 60‘s Club an all the Skinheadgirls with their big butts shake on this Song at the Dancefloor😀.
We young Belgian Psychobillies found our way to this stuff a couple of years ago. We wanted to mix The Monsters, Fuzztones, DAG and The Cramps, Garbage Bags was born 😁

How on god’s green earth could something this good be forgotten and obscure?
Sadly, no promo...ugh!! Great Tune!!

Keep rocking to the core

I love it so much, would give anything for it tho.baumgartner.68@gmail.com
Just like many other garage bands, minus the blue vinyl
I wonder if checkmate was affiliated with Chess or Checker records.
Great song and band name. I want a t-shirt with "The Catsanovas" on it.
The Mystery makes it all the cooler. I love obscure art stories, brilliant nearly unread novels found in thrift shops, obscure horror flicks seen by few but the stuff of legend, and fun obscure garage/surf/punk/trash/exotica which is shrouded in mystery.
My grandfather ❤
Usually blue vinyl record. I have seen a red one too ! Do you have this brillant single ?
Perfect - so rare, so true. Rockabilly madness and 60's punk. I wanna marry this.
I think making a playlist of 60s rock was one of my better decisions as it opened me up to this.
Yes this one is also going on my 60's garage band's playlist
This song slaps and it works today as well as it ever did.
Good Gawd! This song gets it! The guitar in the chorus is so cool!!!
Complete rock n roll, sounds The Cult, mixed with some Rolling Stones and the Kinks. And a little Jefferson Airplane. And to think this is some vintage, virgin protopunk garage. Good find!!
Oh yeah with Gracie on vocals? Heaven.
This is excellent.

I love this song so much.
Great garage rock n roll tune! Love the guitar tone and the Chuck Berry'esque riffs!
exceptional and yet so unknown in the Netherlands
I like that song a lot and for some reason, the singing reminds me of Joey Ramone, and what a cool name to boot.
very rare record the last time one sold about $600 fantastic garage
I'll buy it for 1,000
Fantastic !!!
Or 1500€...
Well then that guy is a freak then.
@@blackonyx6302 you say it like it was a not good thing
Cool AF! It goes right on my garage rock playlist
Garage Guitar Hooks Accompanied By Talented Vocals. I'm "hooked".
Thanks. "Strickly". 60's
VERY KOOL...LUV THIS GEM, So Great...
I love this track! This Strongly reminds me of another underrated garage tune ‘Put You Down’ by The Rogues 🎶
I hear all of the day and all of the night and silver machine at the same time awesome!
Garage will always be # 1
Thank you very much, this song puts you in a good mood.
Fantastic guitar sound.
An absolute floor banger!!!!
Proof Rock and Roll never forgets!
Classic 60s garage punk! Awesomeness
Great hook. Love this tune. 10 out of 10. Keep it simple eh!!
I hope they played this dressed in cat suit costumes 😆
One of the deepest non-remastered 60s bass sounds I've ever heard! And yet, it's so quiet.
That chorus is mighty
Garage rock all sounds the same. THATS WHY I LIKE IT!!
I mean it's the same genre so like of course it will be the same but because it's the same when you are coming to listen to that style you know exactly what you are coming for haha 😉👌
im not your stepping stoooooooooooonnnnnnnnEeeeeeeeEee mixed with kinks n doorz..i love it too

very refined primitivity! great
Eric Trinitecos Great way to put it! I love it!
I was check-mated in only six moves, after I played this song.
Omggg, very fantastic song😌✌🏻
love this beat
good stuff and that label too
Solid tune. Way cool!!

Other good obscure bands include:
The daughters of eve
Loreen church
The shaynes
The girls
The starlets
Brilliant find
Fun listen. Gotta love the band name!
Hell of a track.
makes me want to dig the old pipe out.
Ecxlencia musical
As raw as it gets. Even for the '60s.
I am so happy my parents introduced me to old music, pop-songs nowadays are just awful
Ace tune!
"Of a million things, and she wants to be loved"
If thats anywhere close to what the lyric is holy god that is fucking genius
Damn good rock and roll record.
Great gem
Great name. The song on the other hand, dunno. Thanks for turning us on!
Awesome and crude!
Catchy and sweet!
Amazing
good sound..thnx 4 posting : )
Any chance we can hear the B-side “Flight Stewardess”?
It seems I found it on dailymotion
@@birdgod5584 thank you!
Number One!
Awesome.
Wow. Dig it.
good song. from time to time i hear theme "hello, i love you" by the Doors
😊good turn
VERY WELL.................................
Of course this would be the only record ever of this group. Someone needs to cover it immediately.
Original is the best 🥴🤪😁🥳
A direct influence on the "punk" music of the 1970s with the Ramones, Sex Pistols and The Clash. Why does this song remind me of Johnny Rotten? This is the original PUNK music
@van wray But, The Doors ripped off The Kinks before The Pistols for their song 'Hello, I Love You'.

brent h For some of us it was challenging enough just to get our hands on a six-pack back then.
Hello, i love you!

I love the info, how did you find this out?
@@YakmanOx I'm from NC
@@KingOFuh Awesome! I lived in NC for a lil in the 2010's. Did you get to know the members or see them live?
So who owns the song? If Wes Anderson wanted to put in a movie, who would he talk to? Who would he pay? What’s a Catsanova?
Hey King Of Fuh..I know these are all cool cat related names but do you know any of their real names or are these created in your imagination !
Neat song!
The "primitivity with a bit of jangle" reminds me of early R.E.M - a very young Peter Buck's jangling guitar runs through the song. This is GOLD!
Groovy and my parent's are cooking salmon
How was it?
Infectious! Love it. Any info on the band?
they sound like the kinks
groovy
Does anyone know the lyrics to this?
All the Day and all of the night - Stranglers
nice nice nice!!!!!
A mashup of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow
If only there was a way to get the lyrics...
Garage Total!! Aunque el inicio me suena un toque a All Day and Of The Night de The Kinks, pero el tema es buenísimo!
I sing this song almost daily during my break up💔 from a morally bankrupt lying Wolf 🐺
Luv
Great great song - who is this band?
hello can anyone post the Lyrics? thanks
Vaya guay tio
👍
Anyone got guitar riff in the chorus
heading to my ipod
I wouldn't surprised if REM had heard this, liked and thought, "but we could do better." So they did. Still, this is a treat. Thank you for posting!
✌😎
can anyone post the lyrics? thanks
Sounds like a garage version Tracey Pendavis singer
Definitely see where Jack White got his style from.
Keeper!
I was the 666th thumbs up muhahahahah
You must upload a new vid or TH-cam will take down your channel according to their new guidelines. Less than two years old.
