Not much is really known about the Catsanovas, like most obscure and lost bands of the great 60's era, they're shrouded in mystery. What we know is what we know, they've only had one record. A-side "I Want To Be Loved" and B-side "Flight Stewardess" on Checkmate records. Even the record company is obscure as well, only being known to have put out a second record for Johnny Fiore, with Linda and the Majestics. A-side "Rock-a-Bye Baby" and "I Dont Love You Now" which also happens to be written by Shirley Mallory, who produced for the Catsanovas and I'm beginning to wonder myself, if Shirley wrote for Johnny Fiore, maybe theres a slight possibility that he wrote for the Catsanovas as well? who knows? What I do know is, is that Shirley Mallory was a promoter in LA California between 65' and 66' during that time, so this would definitely confirm that The Catsanovas are a west coast band in LA. I also know that if you go online and search the Los Angeles evening news archives and go to Feb 4th, 1966, you can get a small snippet of information about Checkmate Records on Hollywood Blvd. There is a place of residency at the time that goes by: Richard S. Knarr 5653 1/2 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood 28, California. Thats dated January 12, 1966. All in all, "I Want To Be Loved" by the Catsanovas is truly a gem of a jangler... Maybe one day we can get some more history on these guys.
