If you love espresso you can't go around having a quality (expensive) machine + grinder. If you prefer a milky drink you hardly need any tools or skills. If you're a cheap snob, then you can do what is shown in this video. A bit too much work for that result if you ask me. I doubt many people would do this on a daily basis.

I'd use a mug to heat the milk bud, not a coffee guy, just most plastic appliances will contain metal components for structure so I wouldn't advise microwaving anything but a plate or mug. Epic video, you've changed my mornings.

It works wonderfully as well to heat the milk, then twirl a small metal whisk between your two palms into the heated milk. Texturizes beautifully, especially you can control it to be wet or dry. I like to make a wee gift bag with a whisk, bag of roasted coffee, and small cafetière. It’s always been happily received.

I do this on the rare occasions I make coffee at home. I start heating the milk while the coffee is steeping though so it is ready to go as soon as I dump/rinse the grounds out of my french press. Sometimes I add a splash of vanilla extract to the milk before frothing as well... no latte art for me though, lol. I also crush up the coffee beans with a mortar and pestle since I have little space to store too much specialized equipment and the rarity of me making coffee at home means any grinder would recieve too little use to really justify spending a great deal of money on.

I tried to add sugar and just a little cinnamon in the milk before making foam of it and it actually did taste pretty good. If you normally are using sugar in your coffee put some sugar in the coffee too. What other spices and flavors together with sugar would work with coffee? Vanilla, cardamom, cocoa, nutmeg, ginger, lavender, star anise, clove, peppermint oil?

The first couple of times I tried to make frappe. I poured the milk along with the water and coffee(big mistake) and put the glass under the milkshake machine. 2 seconds later the entire kitchen was covered in milk and coffee. After cleaning all 4 walls for 30 minutes, I try again and make the same mistake. Luckily, my mom came home before my 3rd attempt and explained what I did wrong.
She also told me how to caramel which made me react just like you did with milk.

When I load in the crap load of sugar should I do that before or after I add the milk? Yes I know it's not "correct" to add sugar but I like it sweet. lol

    • @Aelistheawesome
      @Aelistheawesome 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

+katlady5000 that really depends on whether you want to 'ruin' your surface when the milk is already done. Generally, you'd want to put the sugar in when you're done with everything. You want your milk to blend perfectly (as far as perfectly goes with a simple homemade method) with your coffee shot, so I'd say try both methods, see if things change when the coffee shot already has sugar in it. If you're going for that perfect latte art look, then if you add sugar in and mix everything you're obviously going to have it ruined.
Also, the whole idea of adding sugar is not correct is just nonsense. You will always find people who will say what is 'correct', some say you shouldn't add milk at all, some you shouldn't add sugar... Don't get swayed by these 'facist' opinions (meaning just very extreme).
Just as every barista is basically a coffee chef and therefore will give you their signature method and type of drink and you should respect that, same goes for every normal human being wanting to just enjoy their coffee, whether it's plain black, or with sugar, or with honey, or with a sirup, or just with milk.
If you are drinking coffee for your enjoyment and not for a competition, or for cupping (coffee flavour and aroma tasting) then it's purely up to you and your preferred way :)
      Hope this helped :)
      John

Technically, it's impossible to make espresso without one. And cappuccinos and lattes are supposed to be espresso-based. It doesn't mean that other ways of brewing coffee aren't good though=) But I prefer using a milk-frother from IKEA (costs at around 1-2 euros), it's much easier to clean, than a French-press=)

Coconut milk is very high in calories and is not a good choice if you do not want to gain weight, regardless to what it does to your metabolism, it has 3 or 4 times that of regular. Best go along with the almond although that would be original. Here are the calories - Original 130, Vanilla (unsweetened) 140, Sweetened Vanilla 180, Chocolate unsweetened 180, sweetened chocolate 220. I am not certain they have strawberry yet or I havent seen it where I am anyway. So on average vanilla is a better choice than chocolate although there are other considerations - whether one is sweetened or not

Thank-you so much for the video: this technique is going to save me heaps of money from my too frequent coffee runs. ONE question. The coffee. If one is grinding it at home for use with a French Press, what texture should one use? Fine? Coarse?

      Shamiso Muradzikwa coarse

Great video, but leave the music put next time. It makes it harder to hear/understand him.

Love this but tried to listen over and over and could not understand if using espresso grind or regular for the coffee and also could not find out if milk is whole milk or something else.
