  • Yes Theory explains how they got together and tells us about the good things that seeking discomfort has brought them. With their guests brought from LA they show us what their multi-platform is all about. Yes Theory is a multi-platform media brand created in 2015 with over 1 million followers.
They believe that the path given to them by society is outdated. So, they make videos about seeking discomfort and challenging what most people consider normal.
Their videos have been seen by over 500 million people, they have a show on Snapchat with 5-6 million viewers, and have worked with brands like Google, Amazon, and Shopify to spread their message. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

These guys were one of the main reasons I overcame depression and anxiety a few months ago. I suppose my story relates most to what Thomas was saying at the end that yes theory is not about quitting your job or dropping everything, but just about making time to do things that take you out of your comfort zone. 6 months ago I was planning on dropping out of uni (for no good reason really- just fears), I was dealing with family drama and felt like I was spiralling down into this hole of dark thoughts. The anxiety made me feel like a stranger in my own skin and like I was supposed to be doing something else, something more, something phenomenal at all times (even when I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing). I don't know how good of an explanation that was but, in any case, that kept me up at night and prevented me from enjoying anything. After discovering these guys I pulled myself together, and slowly but firmly started convincing myself that I am good enough, and once the anxiety was gone I became so much more efficient, made time for things that weren't "a priority" like volunteering and to overcome depression forced myself to go out with my friends instead of "enjoying" my own thoughts 24/7. Anyways... I felt like sharing this here, as yes theory really isn't about destroying your career or completely changing your life path (eventhough for some people it might be) but about enhancing what you already call life and rearranging it in a way that allows you to see there is more to it than you can imagine and dare to experience that. Love you guys! You literally changed my life and I hope you finish those surprises that can connect the yes family soon as my friends really are really tired of my adventurous ideas by now... (Don't say it, I know...I'll try to go and find strangers for those, I promise :D)

Gergana Georgieva I can relate to this so much. The biggest exam I've ever given is in few days. A month ago I discovered this channel. Back then I was vvv discouraged. The anxiety of not doing well in this exam led me into a dark space. As I started watching their videos it inspired me that my routined, mediocre life is not yet begun. Even if I do bad there's so many things I've not yet done. I used to watch their videos and aspire to do everything they're doing. It made me feel less tensed that this exam will not define me. I love them they are doing everything that's against the social norms. First channel that's Inspired me this much.

    • @gerganageorgieva4980
      @gerganageorgieva4980 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Exactly, mediocre life is so not supposed to begin now (or ever). Truly inspirational channel (first one for me too) as actions do speak louder than words and these guys don't waste their time babbling.
P.S. Best of luck with the exam Smrithi, I'm sure you'll be just fine regardless of the outcome ^_^

Gergana Georgieva I will be fine I still have more than half of my life left to rectify this one mistake. I'm sure both of us will lead a phenomenal life after this phase of our life gets over. Stay strong, I will too we'll do well and continue to be as genuine as them.

Yes Theory represents a paradigm shift. Even from the very beginning, anyone can see from their videos that they hold on to a very specific vision that they want to share to the generations to whom social media is essential. I think it's a very important message, and their work is stuff that I can genuinely say impacts lives positively, contagiously.
Even when they face difficulties, they turn it on its head to find the silver lining and grow from there. Lots of respect for the team's loyalty to their original vision, I can tell that they are truly passionate about the movement to 'seek discomfort' and make connections.
Can't wait to see how Yes Theory will grow in the coming months.

I watched this video about a year ago and I felt like I needed to share yes theory's message to more people which is why I decided to sign up at this public speaking event called "stories that stick" at my university and speak about Yes Theory tomorrow. I have never been so scared in my life because I've never had done such a speech in front of a huge crowd but that is my way of seeking discomfort.

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances nd yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they're conditioned to a life of security, comformity & conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventerous spirit within a man than a secure future.the very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure.the joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences & hence ther's no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon.for each day to have a new & different sun"..Christopher Mccandless

I would love to be able to just get up and run outside, explore the city I live in, make as many friends as I can, live life to the fullest! But when I might even get the choice for that is when I turn 18 and even then I'd have the slim chance to due to school, money, and parents. But I think recently I've been trying to use those disadvantages to still make myself say yes to the simple things. I am homeschooled, 14, and haven't had friends my age in real life for probably 5-6 years. It's been lonely, and I forced myself to be COMFORTABLE. But I definitely wasn't comfortable. last month I moved to a new house new neighborhood, and my own room. So not just that I didn't know anyone, I didn't have one of my sister's with me all day unless we met up in the kitchen. But being alone with my thoughts made me realize that negativity and fake comfort has been overwhelming me. So, last week, I went out, left my schoolwork (which I regret a bit) and went out walking in my neighborhood an hour after school went out to meet new people! I was probably walking in this HUGE neighborhood for a half an hour, completely lost. I was on call with my online friends, I let them tell me where to go "left or right?" "GO LEFT GO LEFT" "You'll get lost if you go left, go right." And so on and so on, I had a little yes adventure and then getting me, very lost xD, led me to two girls a year or two older than me. We had like, a 5 minute walk to my house, wow me xD, but I got their Instagram and probably made some future good friends. So don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone, your little bubble, and say yes to even the simple things. Thank you Yes theory for influenceing me on this. ♥️♥️♥️

These people had never featured in my life until that point and it's crazy to look back and imagine life not knowing them. Cities are honestly the best places to meet people, good luck finding people you wanna hang out with and have fun with it!

Hopefully in a couple of years (im 16 now) , i will save up and come to the U.S for an adventure with yes theory. I agree with everything that was said especially with what Matt said about the "we think we need a good house and a good car to be happy" my entire life I've have disagreed with this idea of being happy because of our possessions, I've always valued my experiences far more than my possessions because in the end, the experiences are what you will remember and cherish. I hope to make my life as adventure seeking and discomfort seeking as I can. Yes Theory has been such an inspiration to me, because of how shy I get around strangers and how the Yes Theory get past those fears and do it anyway. -Kyle J :)

One of the things I want to do in my life is to get to know people and find friends from all over the world, but I'm usually too afraid to ask people around me.
However, since we are roughly the same age (I'm 18 now) and we're both fans of Yes Theory, I figured I might ask you; would you be interested in getting to know me, and possibly become my friend?

I don't even know if it's forgetting our roots, so much as that exploration and appreciation of beauty and seeking out truth and depth of meaning is in the heart of mankind. We lose that when we get trapped in a 9 to 5 we don't enjoy just living pay-check to pay-check to make ends meet and pay debts designed to keep us enslaved. I've been in a similar circumstance. The solution is certainly not quitting work and just going for a joyride across the world. I think social interaction and depth of human connection is largely missing from the western world. In short, I think we need community again. We need to get to know our neighbors, and lend them a hand. We need to build our communities one human connection at a time. That is an adventure of a life-time.

I think your next challenge should be to live in a small town like mine for a week. We have 3 fast food restaurants, a high school of about 400 kids, and a local grocery store. There isn't much to do here, so that would be a challenge and a very uncomfortable situation for all three of you. Everyone knows everyone here, and the coolest thing to do is cruise around. HOPE YOU SEE THIS!!

I would love to live in the area of Venice Beach to be able to meet you because I am sure it would happen and not in the Crecenta Montrose as I live now. So to be able to say YES to something you propose. is my first comment on youtube for over ten years that I use and 4 since they are addicted hehehehe, but I felt that I had the need to write even if I helped google translater since I am Spanish. I just wanted to say A Thousand Graces for your work. I hope I see the streets of LA I have left shortly before I leave in June.

When was the last time you felt most alive? that's something we should ask ourselves everyday. We all live a monotonous life , we don't know where our life is headed to or what we do today will even matter in the future, yet we take so much tension over the smallest things that happen in our day to day life. The number of people who have a positive outlook towards life are so less. We keep worrying about uncertainty , and that should stop. We should get out there and do what scares us the most. we should say YES. Seek discomfort.

Oh man! I love YES Theory , but i dont know if i can make it..
I am 16 years old, in February i will be 17 and I moved one year ago from Greece to Switzerland (economical reasons mostly) and now i leave in a much bigger house, we go on vacations with my family at least one time a year and the educational system here is much better. The only problem is i dont have many friends.. / good friends. It was really difficult for me and my brother to learn the language and adapt to the new environment, because we literally came here and joined the normal school instead of a school for immigrants or whatever..
I know that i have "succedeed" on school (offcourse with the help and understanding of the teachers and some extra hours of german at school), since i continued on normal high school (in Switzerland is very difficult - only 20% of the students are going to normal high school and the others go and work or join another type of high school where they teach more specialised stuff), but i really dont feel good at all. I am down most of the time and i keep thinking about Greece and my friends...
I miss my friends, but mostly i miss the daily routine of being there with them, going to school and be able to actually communicate much much better than i can with swiss people and do jokes/ understand jokes, go and party at clubs and generally have fun and relieve stress by having fun...
I am also really.. - i dont know if the proper word is shy - but i definatelly care what people thinks about me.
I really want to change that and change my habits like watching youtube videos all day long after school or listening to music and trying to forget about my responsibilities like homework etc. , but i feel like i cant or a part of me doesnt want to, because i live on "safe mode".. like trying to avoid conversations with strangers cause i cant speak german that good and because i care wayy too much about their opinion about me.
    P.S.
I am also really confused about what i want to do with my life and i dont really know what to study if i make it to the university...
    P.S. 2
I really was supposed to be really motivated, think positive and be adaptable after all the times i have moved to other places(in Greece) and still made friends, but for a strange reason i am not...
If you read it all thank you and i hope you have a great day :)
