As an Xperia fan myself, I'm glad you enjoyed this device. It's not the most powerful, versatile or the greatest point and shoot in the market, but it's just so dang impressive to have a lot of Sony tech crammed into such a small package. Probably time for you to try the 1 VI when it come out next 😂.

I'm Xperia user and used to take group photos and everyone are impressed with quality of photo (I'm mainly photo pro manual mode to adjust and fixed white balance, AEL, eyes AF).. most people not even know it's Sony phone. I have full set of tool like vlog monitor, Bluetooth grip remote control, Sony wireless mic that can use for interview video session..
Extra thing to tell.. you can record 4k 120 fps with recent Xperia phone across all lens. The only in smartphone can do that.. 30fps burst mode with HDR enabled. 30 photos in 1 secs..
I'm always amazed on the sony xperia phones. My cousin has one and he takes good photos. however, I dont know how to tinker the pro mode just like the way he can to get the best results. It's not the best for point-shoot photography. But if you know how to do the pro-mode, it is the best. Im going to buy one once I know how to adjust the settings

Its xperia, gotta give like. The thing about Xperia camera is the way it process the light, trying to keep it as natural or camera like, which is very natural and comfortable.
Those colors from both photos and videos are truly amazing. Priced at RM4500 (shopee near RM4000), at this price range most people would have just go for iPhones to be honest.

I would like to call this the honest phone because it encourages you to take genuine photos and videos without using any processing. It really gives you the most realistic image possible when it is dialed in right.
That sd card tray looks awesome! Other manufacturers stopped providing SD card slots to sell more 512GB phones but the SD card is actually the fastest and most reliable way to access a large photo/video collection on a computer. Plugging my phone to the computer with the usb cable makes me want to tear my hair out!
that's why i love Sony Xperia. I'm currently using the Xperia 5iii and 5iv and planning to upgrade it. but, since knowing that the 5v didn't have a telephoto lens, i think i should wait for the next Xperia. Xperia 5vi maybe. and i hope Sony will bring back a telephoto lens to it's compact phone cause i love compact phone. the picture or video that comes out is very natural with huge bitrate compared to the other phone. samsung, pixel, and others didn't offer that naturality 😅
Just got one (through work so price not an issue). Immediately impressed with the camera, even on basic mode. Very natural and sharp images compared to the Pixel 8 Pro I'm comparing it with. Sending the Pixel 8 Pro back, it's massive and the photos are overprocessed crap.
I wish more manufacturers had a toggle in the settings to turn on their auto processing. Otherwise it would just give what the camera can put out raw. Photos changed after the iPhone X released I believe. This has me wanting to grab a Sony phone. I’m on a 15Pro.
Minimalist design, cost a lot but worth every penny. Hard to see anybody use this brand. Sounds like a "Quiet Luxury" for me 😂 It didn't stand out among the competitors within the price range but it screams "exclusivity". My jaw would drop if I saw someone use this phone instead of an IPhone. P.S. I used to own an Xperia M2. I would buy an Xperia phone again if I got enough money. 😭

I love how the camera is flush with the phone. You don't get that kind of form factor anymore since everyone is like comparing who got the best camera modules.
I using sony 1v really love it yeah the color is very natural and does not pop up like Samsung phone the only bad thing is the price and there is no dual app supported . This phone is meant for photographer which is a niche market anf and the screen size is kinda of diff also

I'm a '93 guy too. I grew up on Sony...started on Sony Ericsson. I had the newer version of the K800, the K810. Good to see someone excited about Xperia, not just Apple and Galaxy fanboys.
Sony Xperia phones are criminally underrated and unknown. And thats partly Sony's fault for not advertising and marketing them more/better. And its partly because TH-camrs..... certainly the big ones....tend to either ignore them or essentially trash them either because they dont understand how anything that isnt an iPhone works, or they are doing FUD marketing deliberately. But if you actually take the time to use an Xperia and especially the manual control apps with its camera system you will have a great experience. And one thst is actually fairly different to the other brands.
You should try the burst mode 10/20/30fps regular and 10/20fps hdr. All with continuous eye tracking autofocus. Its the reason why I bought the phone. Its nailing focus.
The 'missing feature' from all the others is the half-press to focus shutter button. ïreally miss not having it from my Xperia handsets. (the S, the T, Z1c, Z3c - fantastic units)
I'm still using my XZ1 for 7 years. Wanted to continue a sony phone but I can't afford to splurge on one, and if I do, obviously gotta get your bang for the buck. the 5V looks perfect, hope it gets a drop in price when VI comes out

The jagged looks from the video may not be due to a shaky hands, it can just a be shutter speed mismatch. I could not explain that like how a pro does. like for example, the perceived motion blur maybe too slow that making the video feels jagged.
The pictures are looking great, but the videos... Can't really tell what it is but I feel iPhone videos still have the upper hand over any Android phone. They just feel way smoother overall. (always been an Android user)
I used to own a Xperia z2 and z3 and I loved both of these phones. But all those years later they still look exactly the same. I mean the shutter button and stuff like this is awesome, don't get me wrong. The huge bezzles around the display are insane for a 2024 phone for almost 1000€ though.
PRO TIP: adjust your music levels. If there's background noise coming from the Rode's, it's better to re-do everything or do a voiceover. Your production quality is very good, step it up!
For the last 4 years now I've been using Xiaomi phones, but trust me when I say, if I ever get the money, I will buy a Sony phone again and stick to it.
I really want a Sony phone. It's seriously the best phone BUT I really wish they made bigger phones! It's the only flagship phone that has a headphone jack (that I know of). something I like as an audiophile. Best camera in the game.

As far as I know, it is disabled by default, then there is an option for DRO(Dynamic Range Optimizer, which is apparently rather subtle) and HDR(which is less subtle, but apparently still less aggressive than what other phones do in terms of HDR). I suppose there are some reviewers who shoot and upload photos and videos on Xperias without being aware of this.
This is what I expect the picture quality to be. I'm using the 5 ii atm, pictures come out amazing, very capable for astro long exposures as well! But when I watch all those smartphone camera comparison videos , all the pics look like they came out of a 2001 Nokia.
i've been an android guy and previous owner of xperias (Z3, Z5) but switched to iphone for a few years now. (12 mini, 13 mini) - i'm going back to sony after this, they've caught up and even surpassed iphone's cameras IMO based on what i'm seeing here. i might not get the 5V, will probably wait for the 5VI coming out at the end of the yaer...

I needed a proper comparison to a 'normal' phone. This Sony has a narrow aspect ratio which makes it thinner than the average phone, but taller. I don't know what phone you compared it to at 6:02, but I can't get an idea of how tall this phone actually is.
Really nice colors. A bit like the realme natgeo cinematic but more subdued and natural. Glad something simple is surprising pleasant to see. Color science and luts and filters are what makes videos beautiful.
As an Xperia 1V user I am also impressed with the FL creative looks It's really the game changer for Xperia more than the new generation sensor that they just put in the Xperia V series.
@3:58 is that a Sony Ericsson K800i? 😂 that was my first phone! and then i switched to the sliding SE phone and then to Smsung and then back to Sony Live with walkman, back to Smsung and the last Sony phone I bought was the XZ. now I'm using Smsung again. if only my XZ didn't slow down after 2 years, i would've used it much longer and stayed with Sony. i did plan on getting the 1V but I was afraid it would slow down too after 2 yrs 😢

I was a former Xperia user before going to HTC. Thier hardware has been always amazing but their auto mode camera was so bad that none camera enthusiast will find it hard to take great pictures

It's not flush though, it's clearly raised.
Sony color gamut is best above all else. Even Sony monitors if you put it side by side against other brands it stands out all the time.

Holy crap, looks amazing. Headphone jack, SIM card that doesn't need a pin to eject, amazing photos and selections that pro cameras use...
And the form factor says "I'm a phone" rather than "I'm a camera that's also a phone".

I find that even the point and shoot in basic and auto modes produce fine looking shots in comparison to previous models
I was a former Xperia user before going to HTC.
Thier hardware has been always amazing but their auto mode camera was so bad that none camera enthusiast will find it hard to take great pictures
I love Xperia series It's not like Samsung and iPhone fake Colour saturations . Xperia capture absolute natural and realistic
