but now we have our hands on the Sony Xperia 5 V again send by Sony!
And I love this phone, BUT I really want to bring home how this is a phone with a very different approach!

I think the photos are really outstanding for a smartphone - they're much more like a camera than normal smartphone pictures.
Maybe because it's not the ride it's the rider 😊

Not inky as camera as well, it's also the closest to a camera in video quality as well, at least before Apple release raw support with theirs,
It's huge file in comparison tho.
so much things to like about this phone even when you are not a photographer. I use the auto mode for like 95% of the time with my xperia 5ii. The rest of this phone is just amazing. also the front firing stereo speakers are amazing.
I also still use the 5ll , made a mistake last year and got me the Samsung flip 4, Nice hardware but the software is a mess.. went back to the Sony on the same day... but sooner or later I will need a new phone, it will be this one or even 5Vl.

Well explained. You nailed the Sony philosophy. I have the 10iii and it's a budget phone but the same principles apply to the phone. Auto in daylight is great for most people but low light is not great. Honestly I never need to take night photos so it doesn't bother me. Sony make fantastic phones and I love the 21:9 form factor - so compact to hold and use but still lots of screen. And their displays are great quality.

I think the step they are doing with the 5 is fine by me, though I would have prefered a telephoto over an Ultra wide these days (funny enough in the past it was the other way around hahaha)

@@ThroughJermainesLenshonestly the fact that they removed the telephoto baffles me. It's been there for 4 generations and then they decided to remove it on the 5th. I'd rather have that they in sensor crop. Let's hope the 5 VI gets it back 😤

The photos are great. Can you give a really simple explanation about what sort of parameters you would set on the Sony taking a photo to later on? Edit in lightroom.

I like what the Xperia 5 v offers. it sucks that the tele got removed. But with the upgraded main sensor, I'm ok with that. I might have gotten this if they sold here in the U.S. .
I remember back then when people were crying about 5V's tele removal and yet they eventually cried for the 48mm lossless crop zoom to be added to 1V
@@rejhonsantillan7760 I mean it's stupid that Sony won't add it to the 1mk5 since it uses the same main sensor.
thing is, cropping in is not the same as a telephoto, the lens stays a wide sensor, so for instance take a picture of a person will still have the widelens effect.
Yeah the main sensor is nice! I do think I prefer the Xperia 1V a bit somehow in main sensor, but hard to say because cannot directly compare the 2 ^^
@@ThroughJermainesLensNot really, that's not how the vision cone of a camera works. By cropping the sensor you also effectively crop the vision cone to effectively the same as if you used a longer lens on the full sensor. In fact, the "wide angle effect", or perspective, is independent of the lens entirely. Perspective is changed by the distance from the focal plane (the sensor) to the subject. When you recompose to have the subject be the same size in the frame, you need to mover further away with a telephoto. The 2x crop mode also requires you to get further from your subject to get the same composition. This is the physical reason why a crop sensor camera and a full frame camera can have the same perspective and field of view with lenses of different focal lengths.

Lightroom for Android shows very similar result but faster and easier to use, check it!
Hi all! please remember that Sony phones have only mirror option on front camera :) they do not have option to save it as you should see it :)

all it needs is a desktop mode and some years of updating like at least the 5 years standard
I wish more camera centric phones had the same dedicated shutter button like this and the old days Nokia Lumia series. The 3.5mm jack and Micro SD cards are missed as well.
On a different note, whats your philosophy on editing?
In another way, im curious as to how and what you decide on the final outcome to be? Do you slide the sliders and get something thats pleasing or do you more or less have a style?

Mmmm honestly i am still learning my process on editing as well, but when it is a rainy shoot i often go for a more "moody" approach, so more contrast, less bright and bit more dark vignette, colour style depends. But that is the current me 🤣 if i go somewhere with mountians and ribers like in Switzerland i'd probably go for a bit of contrast, edit the water to be a bit more colourful and so on. So it depends a bit on the situation:)
For the sliders yes mostly, if it for a VERY limited amount where i am pleased with what adobe thinks I should do with it, heck can't remember a shot where i basically just clicked a recommended one and didn't do anything to it.

Their cameras outshine those of Xiaomi, Samsung, and even Apple, not to mention compact APS-C mirrorless cameras. The photos captured aren't overprocessed, cartoonish oil paintings like the ones from Xiaomi, Samsung, and Apple. You can literally print Sony smartphone camera photos on a large scale for your house wallpaper, a feat only DSLRs or MFT cameras can match.
Perhaps Apple will persevere with ProRAW, but there's this.
I would remove xiaomi from that these days to be fair^^

Show the portrait mode
This approach wil get the photographer out of the user instead of let the phone decide. It will result in much nicer photos. Non photographers are better of with a point-and-shoot approach, but these photos will never be of the same level.
I'm convinced, also by this great review, and will order mine soon!

Is it good and easy to capture photos from pro mode for normal photos? Ur photos looks outstanding
it REALLY depends on the situation, while the auto mode will deliver some nice shots, you get the most out of this phone by using manual mode.
@@ThroughJermainesLens make some tutorial videos on how normal people can use manual mode, tweaking different settings in different conditions
You can still use gcam (pixel's comphoto), please make a video about it.
Sadly it has retuned to Sony, but yes you can, though it feels so wrong hahaa :P

I couldnt find any setting, any combination of settings that would result in better looking, cleaner images with better resolution than the ones taken with the iPhone 14 pro. Jpeg, Raw, etc. But who is printing the smartphones pictures anyway... PS: about video. My unit makes an horrible noise when the stabiliser kicks in... nothing to do against it.
After having the 5ii, 10iii, IV and having issues with speakers, green and purple lines destroying screens, reading about over heating and consist issues across the 10 / 5 / 1 product lines I am keen to see if Sony has improved their quality control? A $1300 phone should last longer than 1.5 years...
I feel and I was - ripped off.
I have no business defending Sony but... Out of the phones I'm interested in, Samsung's last Galaxy had a lens issue and the previous one overheated and Google pixels are so riddled with issues from the get go that it's almost like a tradition now so I'm not sure there's a difference between Sony and anyone else. This gen should not overheat anymore as they've switched processors.
Is this a good phone camera if I don't want to hassle to much with the settings?
I would take the new 5 or the Just showed Xperia 1 with a tele since they worked in the camera App and it's not more so complex like in this generation.

If long battery micro SD and headphone jack would I take the sony. Vent from Pixel 7 to Xiaomi 14 but only cause provider had not the Sony and could not change the provider. Could not wait cause the robotic voice after some minutes I got cause a software bug Pixel 8 users got to left I pixel as soon as I could.
The only reason that I wouldn't get this is size. Otherwise, I like what I see.

@@user-ch9de6tw7p well i like 13 pro more in terms of photography, really solid, and it has a good natural approach, the vivo has crazy hdr, but also an amazing fingerprint scanner, FAR superior, but pictures do go for a more brighter and saturated shot, that is why i ask the question what is important to you:)

I wanted to make this phone my next butt sheesh was up with companies only given 1 or 2 os upgrade and 3 years of security updates.🤷♀️..this phone right here should get 3 yearscof os upgrade and damn at least one more year of security updates.i mean for the price this phone is going for
Are the cameras good enough on Xperia 5 V, or I definitely choose the Xperia 1 V? I know the main difference is the lack of telephoto on 5 V, but is it well resolved that on it?
I for some reason do prefer the 1V in terms of camera, not a big difference, but i prefer it. The telephoto on the 1V isn't great

@@guillermocharafedin oh, if you want proper photography Sony, but it is a bit more work, it isn't point and shoot, but in turn your images will have "soul" unlike Samsung
Wait, as far as I know this does have a night mode, doesn't it? It doesn't switch to it on its own like your vivo, but it's there? And blown out skies, doesn't HDR solve it? I saw another 'photographer's review' and he didn't even mention it.
Under basic you do have night mode yes, in auto it detects low light itself so no night mode, it just knows it is night so will have longer exposure to compensate, and of course manual is full self control
@@ThroughJermainesLens thx, I've just heard somewhere else that the 'night mode' is supposedly just long exposure, it doesn't do the computational photography tricks like other phones.

Pro for me about this phone is that it has a headphone jack.👍. even better that the headphone jack is at the top👍👍.also it has a slot for a micro SD card.👍

Yeah it sucks it has limited time of support! And for myself the software isn't my favorite! Do not like close to stock google experience. But i have heard that the new one will get longer support, 4 years.

The skies being blown-out has been a Sony issue for A DECADE. I already had that same problem with the Z3 Compact back then. As for the 5V...well, I wish it was the size of that Z3 Compact. And had software as good as that one, instead of the stock garbage Sony is now pushing and that can't even be customised to get rid of Google's awful designs.
yeah software wise they need to kinda step away from this google experience, but I doubt they will develop their own skin honestly. For the sky yes, this is why the approach needs to be very different then your normal photography, basically like a proper camera.
