I wish they gave the S24 a 3Ah battery and made it 5.2" in screen size and had 1 symmetrical rear camera without a hump. 45W charging would've been perfect too.
Using a 2018 Sony Experia XZ2compact now. Was looking for a new phone but unfortunately Sony didn't pass my needs. Very unfortunate they dropped the 3th lens. Really was looking for a "compact" with better cameras. They also dropped the indicator light and the rear fingerprint sensor and pretty sure with tpu case the side sensor will be hard to use. Besides that it's big. Now mine is 5" screen. Compared today maybe 5.5 to get the same outer dimensions. Wish they still make smaller phones that don't pinch in my leg/hip while sitting. Best option was the S24 but also find out you are better of with the Snapdragon. So ordered it online in HK now and hope for the best. At least it surpasses the warranty period without problems. Sending it back probably isn't beneficial. To sony. Make 5.5 version. With indicator light on the front. Better cameras and software. At least 3x optical zoom. 2 or 3 cameras. 3.5mm jack not necessary for me as long it's supported by USB-C Keep the micro SD card. And longer security updates. Not necessarily new androids because that makes old phones worse. Liked my XZ2compact but it time to move on now. Battery life still Oke with all apps. Getting laggy because the apps are getting to big. Even after reset and installing the same it's not always great. Camera outdated. 19MP. Bad a darker scenes. Front cam not great. Also difficulties with low light. Form factor great. Fingerprint (rear) sensor great. Screenshot option on power menu button only great. Manual options camera nice. Notification led (color modes) perfect. Listen to your customers or your last marketshare will be lost too.

@@techmo2020 Would it be worth to test the influence of the light mode on battery life? I also have purchased both versions of the S24 , but my SD version is from HongKong. I am still in the process of comparing both versions to feed my engineering curiousity.... 🙂 I have remarked though that the Kernel versions in the firmware are different....6.1.43 for Exynos vs. 6.1.25 for SD...This might also have an effect on the power management of the phones, or?
@@IasonundArgonauten I've done already there is virtually no difference. As for kernel version I don't think it really makes a difference. The third number is usually not as important since it's just tiny iterations in UI rather than actual kernel changes for the OS. That's just my take though 😊
Hi, I tested the light mode, I did not find any meaningful difference. I assume it does under clock the CPU but 99% of the time the CPU is not running on the max clock rate.
Thanks Techmo. I also wonder if the cpu governer in the kernel does have a significant effect... What I have already seen is that the Snapdragon is working constantly with a lower voltage than the Exynos CPU. This already shows that it is more efficient and uses less power. The difference in power consumption of the modems might be interesting to look at. What App do you use for the temp. Overlays in the test?
People like to complain about Sony and their lack of update cycles when compared to others. What those people don't realize is Google some time back changed how the whole thing works, currently they're still updating your phone and it's most important features and security through Play Store updates. And those same updates keep coming even when you run out of official OS and security updates. A phone isn't obsolete and unusable when it's no longer updated to new android version. In fact I'd prefer being on an older OS verision, which lately seem to be more design chnages over anything (AI is not useful for me), than being updated to new android version with bugs which take a long time to fix. Pixels are a great example, they're THE phone for android and they're so buggy... Pixels now have 7 years of official update support but they're on HW that won't even last 3 years! I'd rather pick the phone that will survive longer with older SW, that's also way better spec (headphone jack, memory card!!!, no display cutout...) than something like the Pixel with inferior HW. And I side note, I absolutely love how Xperia has the older HW and it still beat the newest devices from the competitors, that says a lot.

It's a Great phone with the best battery life. Cons are not easy to use camera app, not great zoom lens, and a bit too aggressive in battery Management and not using full potential of the chipset and only three years Updates. Everything else is top notch
This year the phones have been underwhelming. Whether budget or flagship. I do like Sony but sadly their auto mode is very, very far behind the competition at this price. They should have let the 1v be for the pros and make the 5v to compete with S24. To do that they should have had computational photography. I think the upcoming 1vi, 5vi and 10vi might be the last Sony phones we see. They must 40% sales last year. I have the 10iii and the cameras are good in sunlight but otherwise very poor. I've decided to go for iPhone because I just want cameras that are good, os support, hardware support and accessories. Apple has all that and best CPU. And where I live the S24 is €750 and the iPhone 14 is €739 and iPhone 13 is €619. No S23 on sale here. So it looks like iPhone 13 wins
You doing amazing work my friend, great comparison detailed!! Samsung no fair treating most of the customers with Exynos just to save money cause it's Samsung chipset. Should give the best CPU available no matter the region.
Love the idea of testing videocalls! This provides valuable insight for choosing the right phone for IRL video streaming Pixel is tempting because it's the only one that lets third-party apps use camera at 60fps However, your test reveals Pixel 8 still overheats, just like previous models, thus there's 0 sense in choosing it over the others Previous Pixels disconnected from the mobile network entirely when they were overheated
You should also probably mention (i may have not heard you mention it, if so thats on me) that the xperia display doesnt get as bright as the other ones, which imo is also a downgrade compared to e.g. samsung. Of course i know that for this test you set the brightness to be equal on all devices. Great video!
It's getting better, they went from 2 OS + 3 year security to 3 Os + 4 year security...at least that's an improvement but yeah brand as big as Sony should really offer at least 5+ year on their flagship especially with all their nonsense about being eco friendly reducing e-waste..
I subscribed you make the best videos and now I still don't know if I should pick the Pixel 8 or the S24 since I live in Europe and get the exynos chipset.
So S24 SD or A55? Do you think the battery on the S24 will actually perform well until year 7 (aka end of life for software support)? Will the specs meet newer tech demands? @@cristianJoker2512The tensor G3 is actually based on what the Exynos 2300 could have been (They even use a exynos modem), but with a slight underclock on all its cores (1+3+4), a Mali GPU instead of a AMD one, a couple of modifications on the ISP and DSP so it could accomplish the requirements needed by Google on their devices.
If we only could combine the strengths of those devices into one... I'd go for the S24 Snapdragon if we could get it here in Europe. However, I prefer Google's software experience. But the Pixel 8's performance is just disappointing. I'd also be very happy with the Xperia, if only software support was decent with at least 5 years of feature/security updates. Now I pray that my Pixel 6 Pro keeps working for another year (it has had serious issues for a while with the screen not turning on when it was getting slightly warm, probably a thermal or mechanical issue, or a combination of both), until the Pixel 9 Pro and Galaxy S25 could show if they could fix the issues of their predecessors. And to see if Sony eventually gets competitive with software support.
It is not surprising that the two Samsung-fabbed phones performed the worst. Despite Samsung-affiliated fans claiming it is now great, the fact is that it needs to be better, though obviously not the dumpster-diving mess the Exynos 2200 was. Anyone buying an Exynos should understand it has several negatives, and unless they are okay with those, it is best to give it a pass. These include a poor modem, poor thermals, and horrible efficiency, especially on more demanding tasks. Unfortunately, the SD S24 is now available in Europe, so anyone wanting a solid flagship compact phone should cross the S24 E2400 off the very shortlist. Sony has always been efficient, so no shock, and thankfully, they went with a non-Samsung-made chip.
That's marketed value, you can see the battery rated capacity in settings > battery > battery information S24+ is 4755mah and not 4900mah It's why Apple has very specific battery values cause they use rated capacity, Samsung just rounds it up to whatever they feel like

I'm starting to think Google Meet has a serious problem with the Exynos chip. Its burning battery like crazy. Before this test Exynos and QSD were only 5% apart 😑.
Video calling is very heavy. The phone is capturing a video and simultaneously should process it frame by frame, sending it over. It should also use sophisticated algorithms to encode it so the other side get the video. For example if the object is stationary it should not send as much info. Then it should upload this and also download the other end which in this case is 3 other incoming videos.... Now add that to being on the 5G connection 😂
@techmo2020 very true, but you showed that even on Wifi it was burning battery very fast. I don't really see why the Exynos should be worse than the Snapdragon Gen 2 🤔. I mean video encoding and multiple streams can be tricky, but it basically is a solved problem with very efficient codecs -_-. My S10e could do it with a fraction of the performance... 😅
@techmo2020 if you ever are in the mood and have time, maybe you could try the Google Meet test with Teams or WhatsApp instead? Also, what I'd be really curious about is how the phone compares in "light" mode (in German its Gerätewartung - Leistungsprofil). This limits the chip to around S23 performance (rough estimation) to keep it cool and save battery.
hi, could you test some phone with Mediatek Dimensity 9300, i've seen some videos where it beats Snapdragon 8 gen3 both in performance and sometimes also in battery life. The [phones that using it are for ex. Vivo X100 and Oppo Find 7, but i don't know if you can buy these in Europe
Hi, as you said the problem is these phones are either not being released here or released so late that there is no reason to review them. I really wish I could get my hand on Huawei and Vivo phones on time.
Mediatek is garbage. Bad optimization and terrible emulators. They also need to improve efficiency and temperatures. They have zero support for medium/long-term development.
Lol at comments, if you want to see a chip that is hot garbage then look at exynos 990, not dimensity 9300. Don't listen to smear campaigns from qualcomm, qualcomm would rather have monopoly on phone chipset as one could see in 2010s with cdma and non-compete chipset deals.
I hope there will be 5vi with a just dedicated zoomless added like the 70mm of the 5ii would be already better than having none. or maybe make it a dedicated 80 or 90mm. than the 5vi would be an amazing compact flagship. but i heard rumors that they stop the 5 series :S i hope the rumors are untrue

Mo I have a Request to you. I have recently bought galaxy s24 ultra and I am happy with it. However the issue of the fingerprint sensor not working properly with a screen protector was weird. Anyways I can live with that still by testing different tempered screens, one still stick. BUT I HAVE NOTICED A BIGGER POTENTIAL ISSUE. S24 ultra when check in About phone - Status information - SIM card Status and check the SIGNAL STRENGTH , it's shows like -90dbm to even -120dbm. Normal signal strength received should remain between -40dbm to -85dbm. This is happening on both SIMS from different carriers. I belive your s24 will show the same Low Signal Strength. I think with such low signal Strength this phone will struggle in Single tower or hilly terrains. I had similar issues with my previous midrange samsung phone where signal strength was bad. I wonder if this is a common samsung issue which nobody is addressing. Can you Please make a video on this signal strength issue only and tell us your observations and possible solutions to this issue !??! It will be great if you come up with proper information about it. Thank you

The Xperia 5 v is an awesome phone. And owning one can confirm the battery life is absolutely superb 😀
No Xiaomi 14?
This video just shows how god damn efficient SD8 Gen2 is... incredible
So i just ordered a new phone for work and i could chose between S23 and S24 - i got S24 and now i am a bit bummed about it having Exynos (i was aware of it, but i wanted to test out the latest phone from Samsung even tho i think S23 and S24 are nearly identical). Well i am still gonna look forward to it but sad that we in Austria got again the worst chipset :(
i decided to get the s24plus exynos 512GB and honestly im impressed with the perfromance, its very fast, battery is good, doesnt get hot, hasnt thottled once and i do play graphic intensive games, i did notice some games note optimised but the exynos is still a flag ship processor, and overall im very happy with it. i did get a good discount though...
Managed to get s24+ 256gb exynos for 453£. The price was really good. If what, will have time to send it back.
@@igorlpv i think you will hold on to it...
Shit what you have on your hands. Enjoy it!
I have an S7 Edge Exynos from release date. Lasts 9 hours a day. I don't think I've had Snapdragon chip last this long.
@@jlj1117 honesty form factor wise its amazing, its a6,7 inch display, with the slimmest bezel , it feels small compared to the s24U

Always Snapdragon. The best on emulation, compilation, conexions, GPS, efficiency and temperatures with better support for customs.
Great detail - especially the outside run test and standby 4 hours. I don' care about battery use on wifi because if I have wifi, I can often plug in and charge. Battery drain outside on 4G / 5G is the key piece of information I value. Bonus for using google maps or a run app for some GPS drain.
Thank you for doing such fair tests, other so called TH-camrs aren't doing a great job and annoying fanboys defending the crappy Exynos is even worse
Almost 1 hour difference in batterylife with the 24s! 😮
How is the Xperia 5 V holding up now? Would you prefer S24 SD over Xperia 5 V?
as user of s24 Exynos the battery life i could live with it but the thing is bother me is the heat this thing heat a lot and quickly especially if you use it in mobile data .
2:40 - did you mean UFS 4.0 not 4.1
I wish they gave the S24 a 3Ah battery and made it 5.2" in screen size and had 1 symmetrical rear camera without a hump. 45W charging would've been perfect too.
Preach! S24 mini would be awesome.
probably the best battery drain test
3.5mm jack not necessary for me as long it's supported by USB-C
Keep the micro SD card.
If I remember correctly you have your s24 with snapdragon from Canada and live in Switzerland right? Do you habe any reception problems?
I have the possibility to get one from Canada as well and live in Germany, so experience should be similar.
The Canadian one doesn't match the bands in Germany, I don't have a connection issue but you never know. The Hong Kong vsriant is compatible with EU.

Every year Samsung marketing and influencers try to claim that this time Exynos is just as good as SD, but once tests are done we end up with the same ~20% battery life difference...
@Glotttis no wonder the price here in UK for Exynos s24 is cheaper than the Snapdragon s23
Can you recommend a compact phone under 500£, with less 6.2 inches screen, with an sd card, 5 years of updates, good camera, good processor, great screen, very good battery and nice Ui ?
I know that you have the Sony 5V, but it only gets 2 years of updates.
What is happening in the mobile industry, why we can't have anymore good compact phones ?
Why is 2 years of updates such a big deal? I'm using an Xperia 1 1st gen, and it's still on android 11. It's by far my favourite version of android coz each generation, in my opinion, it gets worse. Although i'll still choose the new android os over iOS anyday.
Because content needs a larger screen, but agree, we're reaching a tipping point.
I want more compact, mid range foldables. We are like 5 years from it tho
Hello, can you tell me the battery level you used, the processor temperature, the usage percentages, in which program you opened it and how you opened it, please, you are loved.
Hi Techmo,
Great test with a lot of useful infos. Have you used the standard or the light performance profile on the 2 S24 versions?
Hi it's standard mode
@@techmo2020 Would it be worth to test the influence of the light mode on battery life? I also have purchased both versions of the S24 , but my SD version is from HongKong. I am still in the process of comparing both versions to feed my engineering curiousity.... 🙂
I have remarked though that the Kernel versions in the firmware are different....6.1.43 for Exynos vs.
Bought my S24 from Hongkong Problem Solved and saved almost 200€
Amazing research btw! nice

Should give the best CPU available no matter the region.
amazing test, well done.
I can confirm, my Pixel 8 (Pro!) also has insanely slow write speeds, pretty much on par with yours, 230MB/s.
Even on Pro? That's insane! Thanks for sharing.

Love the idea of testing videocalls!
This provides valuable insight for choosing the right phone for IRL video streaming
Pixel is tempting because it's the only one that lets third-party apps use camera at 60fps
However, your test reveals Pixel 8 still overheats, just like previous models, thus there's 0 sense in choosing it over the others
Previous Pixels disconnected from the mobile network entirely when they were overheated
After all these years Google still haven't found a fix for their camera heat.
You do a spectacular job!
You should also probably mention (i may have not heard you mention it, if so thats on me) that the xperia display doesnt get as bright as the other ones, which imo is also a downgrade compared to e.g. samsung. Of course i know that for this test you set the brightness to be equal on all devices.
Great video!
Samsung suggest to charge battery from 20-80 %. Does this help in prolonging the battery life or do we need to charge it normally 15-95% .
two phones have airplane mode on while the other two are on network. this isn't entirely a fair test
Pretty sure Google pixel 8 uses UFS 3.0 storage while the others use UFS 4.0 so that can explain the slower write speeds I think
Its UFS 3.1
Great analysis, as ever :-)
Quick question: The S24 units are the same ones used in the previous comparisons?
Hi yes they are
Would be interesting to see an older samsung model like the s21 or s20 with exynos vs snapdragon to see just how well exynos ages
Sony software support is unacceptable...
It's getting better, they went from 2 OS + 3 year security to 3 Os + 4 year security...at least that's an improvement but yeah brand as big as Sony should really offer at least 5+ year on their flagship especially with all their nonsense about being eco friendly reducing e-waste..

pixel 8 it's a nonsense and it's based on exyons 2200 , wait for pixel 9 witch will be on exyons 2400 just like s24 but with better google integration and hopefully better battery life
@@cristianJoker2512The tensor G3 is actually based on what the Exynos 2300 could have been (They even use a exynos modem), but with a slight underclock on all its cores (1+3+4), a Mali GPU instead of a AMD one, a couple of modifications on the ISP and DSP so it could accomplish the requirements needed by Google on their devices.
Sony please comeback in india
How many esim can i store in Samsung s24 canada varient?
Zenphone is the most compact smartphone you can buy right now
Он не очень, к сожалению
Where is it available in Europe?

Turned on airplaine mode on Samsungs while on other phones didn't...
I'm starting to think Google Meet has a serious problem with the Exynos chip. Its burning battery like crazy. Before this test Exynos and QSD were only 5% apart 😑.
Maybe they do some ray tracing post processing 😂🙈
@@flowqi212 Most likely due to inefficient fabrication of Samsung semiconductor factories. But it's just a guess
S23 vs S24 exynos please 😊
Nobody wants or needs to see Exynos in comparison videos. Always Snapdragon!
hi, could you test some phone with Mediatek Dimensity 9300, i've seen some videos where it beats Snapdragon 8 gen3 both in performance and sometimes also in battery life.
If it isn't available in europe look for importing
Mediatek is garbage. Bad optimization and terrible emulators. They also need to improve efficiency and temperatures. They have zero support for medium/long-term development.
The phones that use that chip are pure garbage. No trade value from those phones.

I know it's difficult to handle but you should've also considered S23.
Thank you
Hi I checked it before, the signal strength is one of the best I've had, also the internet speed is more than S24 for some reasons. For temper glass try to find higher end ones or use the official film from Samsung, also increase the touch sensitivity of the phone.
If ASUS released Zenfone 11, I would definitely buy it.
