I started cooking for my dog about a month ago. I had used recipes i have found online that said vet approved ive been putting all the essentials vitamins probiotics etc. Still learning came across your channel thank you for your recipes. My dog will be a 6 yrs old in soon shes a reg Labrador. She weighed 80 lbs but is putting on weight since I started feeding her homemade diet. I feed her a cup and half of food twice a day. This is what she's always got. I need to get over 10 lbs off of her. What can I do to make these recipes a diet or do I just cut her food to a cup of food twice a day? I also cannot find shiitake mushrooms anywhere around my surrounding area where I live I can get the powder off Amazon will that work and do you know how much I need to use its 1000 mg per serving and 100g weight 100 servings per bag it says 2/5 tsp once daily so how much pet pound of home made dog food? @@goodliving2171I know it has been a long time since you posted this but I couldn't not say something. I am far from being an expert in animal nutrition but I have read enough, seen loads of tutorials from different vets a d made a ton of research to know that not all you said it's true. 1st, your dog's bloat. I am really sorry you lost your dog to this, but it had nithing to do with them using soy. What happens is dog biscuit nearly triple in size when in the stomach and this causes the stomach to dilate quite drasticly which then makes it more likely to flip on it self cutting all the blood flow to stomach and so on. large and deep chested dogs are much more prone to it as the stomach has more room to move around. Not saying soy is good for them, its not but also wasn't what caused the bloat. 2nd without a doubt raw diet is the best diet for our dogs but that doesn't mean a well balanced cooked natural diet is bad for them. In fact there a few occasions where cooked is prefered over raw. 3rd garlic is actually preatty safe, and if you pay attention all her recipes were large batch cooking so the amount of garlic they use is not actually that high 4th onions have a toxin that affects the red blood cells and nothing to do with gas acomulation. Please do not take offense in what I am saying I honestly just want to share what I know and help others and their animals.
I've heard that garlic is toxic to dogs but my mom swore by it and in all the years of owning dogs, have never had a problem. I cannot use the meat in this first recipe though as my dog is allergic to beef. I use salmon and add vitamins afterwards as well 🙂.
You may want to try turkey or chicken in a small quantity to see if yiur dog can eat those. Fish farm seafood, fresh and even worse canned seafood have too many things that can cause health isdues in pets. Nitrates in canned foids can harm their kidneys and liver. If using g seafood use midsized fish to also lessen the mercury that can cause further health issues.
Hi Dr, Judy, My dog has been diagnosed with high triglycerides. What would be a good homemade dog food for her? She is a terrier mixed breed and she weighs about 17 pounds. Thank you. Teri Zohar
Do you have a recipe for senior diabetic dogs. The more I search the net the more confusing it gets! My sweet lil Dachshund is 13 years old and diagnosed 5 months ago with diabetes he takes 5 units 2X day he is 10 lbs. Thank you and I’m enjoying your tutorials!
I remember my grandparents fed their huge Rottweiler type dogs (they were watchdogs) nothing but home cooked meals such as meat, rice, chicken stew and were given bones to chew on. I seriously doubt that they need supplements if you feed them a variety of foods. Certainly not the highly processed ‘supplements’ made with chemicals or freeze dried and grounded it up.
I know your comment is old but I agree with you. I do not give my puppy man-made supplements because they have a lot of chemicals in them. My vet approves of me giving her seamoss. I make sure she has a balanced diet.
Thank you..i have seen a video where Dr. Morgan said that it is not wise to cook or feed raw as a puppy till they are a little older because of their supplimental needs. I was really wanting to start cooking her food right out of the gate but i guess I need to wait till she is 6 months.
I am a raw feeding breeder. I start my pups on raw from their first meal at 21 days old. As long as you research thoroughly and make sure you have all the nutritional gaps filled, baby puppies can be started on raw from day one. Sadly many raw diets are missing many key ingredients (including the meals shown in this video) and this will cause problems for pups.
I had exactly this question with my puppies and the answer is that PUPPIES SHOULD be fed RAW until they are at least 8 months old as you can balance a raw diet and it has all been calculated by the raw food advocates. Dr Judy states that her home cooked recipe should NOT be fed until eight months old or preferably a bit older as her recipe is balanced for ADULT dogs only. At that age if you really want to start gently cooking their food you can do, but never ever cook commercial raw food as it contains raw bone which must NOT be fed cooked. When home cooking you need to use a calcium source such as ground eggshell.
Lots of options. Here a couple: drjudymorgan.com/products/rx-minerals-dog?_pos=2&_sid=6f4cfc74e&_ss=r and drjudymorgan.com/products/eggshellent-calcium-supplement-16oz?_pos=1&_sid=00caa38e0&_ss=r

Probably not. Mostly corn and carrots are gmo. Which means pesticide laden because farmers use gmo so they can increase pesticides without effecting the look of veggies, And increasing the crop yield. but of course this increases the pesticide residual on veggies. Chop up organic veggies is best.

I try to buy bone in meats...including chicken. It all goes in the crock pot over night. Next day I pull off the meat and strain the fat off, saving the good broth. The bones and broth go back into the crock pot with veggies and cook a couple hours. I pick out the bones and set aside if they don't fall apart between my fingers. The bones that do fall apart I feed as treats!...including chicken bones. Can't have ANY sharp bone shards...has to be cooked until the fall apart between your thumb and fingers. My vet says this way they are getting bone meal that is crucial for the dog's bone health. I don't bother to chop up veggies fine. Just cook...strain off broth and freeze broth for when I don't have bones and add that to the next batch of meat and vegetables. After straing the vegetables I mash them in the crock pot, add the meat and shred it. I don't bother cutting up the meat before cooking...not even whole chickens. I add pre and probiotics for dogs, glucosamine and chondroitin, vitamin supplements, and fish oil to each dog's serving according to the dog's weight. Just be sure to introduce fresh cooked foods gradually or the dog will get the runs. Add 1 part fresh cooked food to 3 parts normal diet first 3 days. 1 to 2 parts 3 days, 1 to1 part 3 days, 3 parts fresh cooked food to 1 part normal diet 3 days... for a total of 12 days. Otherwise you will have a tooting runny pup. Remember to strain the fat off the broth. They get enough fat from the meat left behind. I spoon the fat off or put the broth 8n the frig half hour and the fat floats on top and I scrap it off the top. I also give the gelatin from chicken to the dogs as a treat. Good for their bones and skin.
Wish I had listened to my gut. I fed Precious a homemade diet for several years. Her vet said she needed a complete diet and recommended a commercial food for her. I search for days then choose IAMS mature formula, less than 24 hours she was died. I don't know how to forgive myself, I let her down.
Kibble is not going to kill your dog in less than 24hrs unless it was severely contaminated.. did you have any testing done after his death? I suspect he had an underlying condition that killed him.
@@CRASS2047 a poor diet can lead to health issues which can ultimately kill your dog. It doesn't have to be contaminated... nutritional deficiencies can be very severe. Poor diet leads to long term health issues and ultimately early death.. Everything from heart conditions like DMC and neurological issues have been linked to a poor diet. Some dogs can eat foods like Iams for there whole life with little to no issues but some dogs are more sensitive to nutritional deficiencies and are horribly effected by eating junk like Iams. WHat do u mean by getting the calcium "balanced" ? Are u saying, if the food doesnt have calcium, then u need to add a food that has calcium or calcium supplements? If a supplement, then what do u suggest? and how much for a long term food source?
It could be used for the calcium. Other trace minerals would still have to be added. We commonly use Rx Vitamins Canine Minerals or you can get zinc and manganese from oysters and mussels

I know this was 2 years ago, but I'll answer anyway. I would. All the research I've been doing indicates the vast majority of dry food is terrible and likely the cause of health problems.

I don't understand why you're cooking the meal it takes out all of the vitamins from the meat and the vegetables therefore you're having to add supplements to the food because you cooked it out out even though you should add supplements anyways but that is in addition to what is already in the food nutrition wise also I've been told you're never ever supposed to give a dog pork and garlic and onions are toxic why are you giving it to them makes no sense none of this are you really a veterinarian or just saying and doing what you think

Home cooking your dogs food is generally better as you know everything that goes into it. However, refrigerated Fresh Pet is a decent option. It's a bit more expensive at $14 for 6 lbs of food, but it's good for your dog if you can't cook for them.
You don't need to be a cook to make your own dog food. I chop up the veges, add them to a large container with rice, pasta or oats and put the whole container in the microwave to cook. Once cooked and cooled a little, I add the raw meat, offal, bones, seeds and nuts, fish, eggs, ginger and kelp. Mix it up and serve / package up for later meals. It's very simple and you'll probably find you enjoy it.
My dog does not like any liver of any kind of animal? Not sweet potatoes or peanut butter! She doesn't like boiled tasteless meat. She likes it roasted or baked only. So it's great seeing you browning the meat!

Some people say it's toxic, others say it's not. I just stay away from it all together when it comes to my pups because I don't know who to believe anymore
I know this feels extremely old but everywhere I’ve done my research it says you do not give dogs garlic. Her vet also told me not to give her garlic and onions. I’ve been cooking my dog food for the last 9 1/2 months and her vet says she’s one of her healthiest animals. I give her a seamoss instead of these men made vitamins.
We recommend vitamin supplements that are made with human-grade whole food ingredients, never synthetic vitamins. Garlic is fine unless your dog has a history of hemolytic anemia. The whole garlic myth is based on a study where dogs were fed garlic at extremely high doses for extended periods of time (as in whole bulbs of garlic for months). Garlic is actually a great addition for many reasons.
@@judymorgan4241 No I’ll stick with the AKC and her to the vet’s recommendation. Because everywhere you look is this garlic is toxic for dogs of all ages and sizes. I don’t know if that’s an old study considering this video was posted Abreme back in 2013 but most certainly now this is what they’re saying. At least I know I’m done with that and not a TH-camr. Also her vet state that the seamoss is wealth of the year than any vitamin I can give her.
@@CopperHueCollectionsChippewa Seamoss is great. And garlic is not toxic. But it is also not something that must be included in the diet, so it's fine not to feed it.

Broccoli is actually an awesome calcium source!!!!! My dogs love it😍👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Mine too!
TIA
Can you tell what the serving size is for the pup loaf?
I appreciate your dedication to our pets, Thank you sooo much!!!

Beans or legumes can cause bloat, which causes agonizing pain and usually death. My big beautiful sweet Doberman died of bloat after eating Purina Dog Food. They knowingly were putting soy beans in it because it was the cheapest ingredient to use. The letter from their Lawyer reads, "We are so sorry for the loss of your pet. We know soy kills some dogs, but not most. I will NEVER buy their products again. After enough complaints and lawsuits, they evidently quit putting "soy" on the ingredients label. It's safest not to give a dog garlic because of toxicity. Onions cause gas and dogs do not prefer the taste, you are treating a dog like a human and that's not fair to the dog. Maybe people need to eat raw meat to see how they like to be treated like a dog. Look what happen when cows were fed beef! Mad Cow Disease! I'd like to meet the dummy that came up with that idea! Raw meat is what wild dogs eat, with a little grass and stomach contents of their prey. Maybe we are eating dog food then, because we eat meat. We have been conditioned and brain washed into believing dry and canned dog food is what we should feed them. Dogs need organic meat, not the antibiotic invested, vaccine injested drugs that most humans poison their body with. Dogs need the raw bone ground up with the meat. I believe it's best to feed chicken and fish over beef, especially if it's not organic. Look up Raw Food Diet on TH-cam.
@@goodliving2171 what are u saying dogs should be fed then? store bought dog food?
3rd garlic is actually preatty safe, and if you pay attention all her recipes were large batch cooking so the amount of garlic they use is not actually that high
4th onions have a toxin that affects the red blood cells and nothing to do with gas acomulation.
@@IamKyuTee I use fresh wild salmon that's been frozen. Sockeye. I used to use chum salmon ɓut we have none here. Or I can use venison.
Can I use a pressure cooker to cook the pup loaf in?
I remember my grandparents fed their huge Rottweiler type dogs (they were watchdogs) nothing but home cooked meals such as meat, rice, chicken stew and were given bones to chew on. I seriously doubt that they need supplements if you feed them a variety of foods. Certainly not the highly processed ‘supplements’ made with chemicals or freeze dried and grounded it up.
I know your comment is old but I agree with you. I do not give my puppy man-made supplements because they have a lot of chemicals in them. My vet approves of me giving her seamoss. I make sure she has a balanced diet.
Do you have anything for dogs that like licking the refridgerator because your pup did that thru your first video segmant🤣🤣🤣too cute
When home cooking you need to use a calcium source such as ground eggshell.
instead of throwing eggshells out place in blender grind to powder and add to food for calcium
mike byrd I add to my plants. I buy only cage free/range free eggs 🥚
It's best to cook the shells before grinding. It ups the availablity.
all the beef stocks in the stores including that brand lists onion in the preparation, Thought onions and garlic were extremely toxic!
YES onion is very bad for dogs. Most processed stocks have it.
Just pinch of garlic is not toxic for dog!
Onion is very toxic for dog, little garlic powder with food is ok.

One question is it ok if i buy frozen vegetable already chopped peal and so on are they halthy? Or they have preservatives in it?
Probably not. Mostly corn and carrots are gmo. Which means pesticide laden because farmers use gmo so they can increase pesticides without effecting the look of veggies,
And increasing the crop yield. but of course this increases the pesticide residual on veggies.
Chop up organic veggies is best.
Where can I get the minerals that the dogs need?

Dr. Morgan do you sell puppy kibbles & wet can food in your shop?
Dr. Morgan doesn’t recommend kibble for dogs/puppies. You want to feed a species appropriate diet - raw food or lightly cooked food. Dr. Morgan has some freeze dried raw food on her website. She has Dr. Harvey’s raw vibrance and paradigm.

WHat do u mean by getting the calcium "balanced" ? Are u saying, if the food doesnt have calcium, then u need to add a food that has calcium or calcium supplements? If a supplement, then what do u suggest? and how much for a long term food source?

Feed an animal what it's meant to eat for Gods sake!

They don't need veggies and fruits that have been sprayed with poisons that actually KILL insects and cause cancer and other health problems to all who I jest it. Dogs need the raw bone ground up with the meat. I believe it's best to feed chicken and fish over beef, especially if it's not organic. Look up Raw Food Diet on TH-cam.
I use organic bone broth..there is next to no sodium.
Why do you peel the carrots? That wouldn't be much added fiber.
I've been making homemade dog food for a year now, my terrier has never chewed anything, he gulps it like we're in the apocalypse, if I don't run the beans thru the food processor, they pass right thru him and wind up whole in the grass in the yard.
Lol

Beans or legumes can cause bloat, which causes agonizing pain and usually death. My big beautiful sweet Doberman died of bloat after eating Purina Dog Food. They knowingly were putting soy beans in it because it was the cheapest ingredient to use. The letter from their Lawyer reads, "We are so sorry for the loss of your pet. We know soy kills some dogs, but not most. I will NEVER buy their products again. After enough complaints and lawsuits, they evidently quit putting "soy" on the ingredients label. If you feed correctly why add so many supplements ?
☕️❤️☕️some vet said garlic is toxic for dog...🧐
