- What's the difference between dog food for small dogs and dog food for big dogs?
Nothing. Pretty much!
Don't become confused by differing opinions online, just stick to a basic balance, and use some more of the recipes I have to create a varied diet. Variation = Complete. Not counting nutrients on an excel spreadsheet.

I fed my yorkie (best friend ❤) homemade food similar to this for her entire life. I’m happy to say that she lived a healthy, active life and made it beyond 17 years. Bonuses…She still had all of her teeth and no bad breath.
What ingredients do you put?
oh, please give us some details. and did you 'brush' your dog's teeth? ❤
I brushed my dog's teeth. I brushed every other day
a hungry dog is an obedient dog. as stupid as that may sound, it's true. ever since our chihuahua gets significantly smaller portions and not as many treats as he used to get, he is not picky anymore, he eats as soon as you put it in front of him and he's much more obedient on walks etc. made a huge difference!
That's why dog trainers suggest training before feeding so your dog is more focused and interested in you. It's better also to train using food from your dogs dinners so they do not gain weight.
I find it hard to follow a recipe by percentages. I would rather have him say like a cup of this or a teaspoon of that.
It's quite simple just find out how many calories your dog needs to maintain a healthy way and you go from there
I cook my dogs 2 whole chicken leg quarters (debone after cooked), a few hearts, a few pieces of liver, giblets, vegetables, and a spoonful of ghee. Interesting video
Thank you! I have a tiny shih tzu and chihuahua cross. I want to make sure most of his diet is homemade
Amazing, get my recipe ebook if you're looking for more.
Very interesting, thanks !!
Thank you
Great recipe 👌
Thanks a lot
I have four 3 year old basset hounds and see them as large dogs in short bodies. What is your advice per recommendations of this video? Thank you. Best info on this topic that I have ever found.
Every veterinarian I've spoken with has said to NEVER give a dog raw bones. They can splinter, they can break their teeth and damage gums, the tendons can get looped neuter teeth and pose a choking hazard.
Well, it's the cooked bones that will cause these issues to your dogs.
Your multi vitamin is not currently available in the US but I did subscribe for emails so when it becomes available I can order. Do you suggest any other brand until then or something specific to replace this? I’ve just found the e book so apologies if this info is there.
Yes, I'd like to purchase the supplement too but it's not available. I've ordered two of the e-books but there wasn't anything re alternatives to his supplement.
Does this comply with AAFCO standards?
please how i cook mushrooms for my dog recipe, never saw on your videos
I'd love a video talking about miniature schnauzers. I've recently been babysitting one and they're the first dog I've come across were fat content of food was a concern (outside the obvious issues of obesity) due to their tendency to develop pancreatitis.
Hi! I have an Italian greyhound, I have read that they have less need for fats and can have issues digesting them I skip or reduce the oil? Also compared to the large dog food videos is it ok to skip fish and egg for smaller dogs or still something they will need sometimes? Thank you so much!!!
Yep, I had a part greyhound with IBD. If he ate fish oil, supplements or just plain oil, it was off to emergency. I started baking wild white cod and lil pumpkin
Good morning I'm from London Ontario Canada I have a question my dog is very picky I have a chihuahua I try everything but he only like chicken and rice no vegetables
Bones: Years ago I was told No chicken bones except the neck. As the neck was Cartlidge. Bones in their intestines could splinter and be trouble. Please speak on this, maybe a separate subject. Just sent off for your recipe guide. TY
Hi Cam, we've been feeding our dogs raw food diet since they were puppies. Recently, one of our dogs had a blood check up and the result shows that their BUN % is higher than normal adn the vet is sayning that this is due to the high protein diet in raw food. I've done some research online and there were different suggestions and we're not sure which is the correct information. Should we reduce their protein intake?
My two year old Chihuahua x Yorkshire terrier has eaten raw food from 8 weeks just like my German shepherd and cocker poo he does just about everything the other dogs do he’s active healthy and confident after all he is a dog by the way he weighs approx 7 pounds
I have a 14 lb shipoo. How much of this food do I feed him per day?
If I wanted to give this to a puppy would I have to fix something?
Hi Cam, what other step can replace putting the meat into the oven?
lightly pan fried. Or just serve it raw!
I have watched several of your fantastic videos....but I have a question. You always say, upon taking the ground turkey/beef out of the oven, to "be sure you get all of the healthy juices". Isn't that just fat?? I always drain the fat because I'm afraid my dog will get pancreatitis if I don't. Confused.
It's not all fat, and fat is not unhealthy. If your dog has had pancreatitis in the past, then choose a low fat meat option, but don't poor out the fat. Fat is an essential part of the diet.
Thank you!
I tried all the recommendations for fuzzy eaters. It didn’t work and my dog got really skinny to the point I was worried because she’s a puppy. I switched to cooked food and so far it has been working great. She didn’t like raw food. Kibble, wet food and freeze dried food didn’t work either. I do add rice and squash as carbs because otherwise her digestion isn’t great.
Same with my dog. I started baking wild white cod
How is this at all balanced and complete? it's missing a ton of nutrients like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, omega 3s,...
he said to feed the dog bones as well. Id say chicken bones have a pretty large amount of calcium. A 25kg dog would only need about 25g of chicken bones a day for calcium. like 1 wing.
Hello, thank you for sharing your content. I have a dachshund that has been eating good quality dry food for her entire life, but I'm aware that she doesn't seem to enjoy it. I would like to transition her to fresh food, like the ones you recommend. Can you please suggest where I can find additional recipes suitable for small dogs? Cheers!
Hey Tania, in the Ultimate Homemade Dog Food Handbook. It's my recipe ebook on my website.
Be careful, I was transitioning gradually my poodle from dog food to raw, all very carefully, she ended up with bloody diarrhea and acute gastritis. Our vet put her back on dog food, she immediately recovered, they also told me if a dog grew up eating dog food, giving them raw natural diet will cause more harm because their digestion is already adjusted for dog food. it was so scary and so expensive… I’m never feeding her raw ever again. She loves her dog food and never has any problems when on it.
Do I have to put it in the oven? Why not just raw?
You can serve it raw!
At the end "Calcium" is written on the bottom of the video but you make no mention of it in the video.
He addresses this with raw meaty bones at the beginning, as a source of calcium
Were can I get the grating bowl? How much of this can I feed a ten pound chihuahua?
It's from IKEA
What is the purpose of baking the liver and heart? Can’t they eat it raw?
I've been told that cooking removes a lot of nutrients. I'm willing to learn, but it can get contradictory in this area.
shouldn't a portion of their meal be bone for calcium? the video doesn't explain that, thanks
I'm pretty sure he said to give them chicken wings or feet a couple times per week and that would be sufficient.
Can i add extra virgin coconut oil into the diet? If yes, how much?
Im so very sorry to hear about your friends dog passing, how incredibly sad.. no pooch she ever have any chicken bones, it just to dangerous, or bones...❤🙏🐾
The poultry or meats should be cooked, there are so many fillers and pesticides today, and cooking is needed to kill off bacteria...if you dont cook the meats your baby could develop a bacteria infection. Please no raw food..
I'm a bit confused he started talking about feeding raw and how pleased he was, then cooked the meat ?
Hello! Well, the meat I'm using here is fresh. Cooking it guarantees safety, but if you opt for raw feeding, you should freeze it first to help reduce potential risks.
My dog is 10lbs. How much food do I feed him and how many times a day?
Hi! You can check it on my Ultimate Guide: Here's the link: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/the-ultimate-homemade-dog-and-puppy-food-recipe-book
My small dog enjoys a small part of a chicken leg Not cooked bone obviously that is why people say never feed bones because when cooked they become brittle
That is correct! My cat ate a chicken bone and choked and died on the way to emergency.
I'd like to because it's good for the dog, but I'm going to be afraid of her salmonella lips LoL & I don't want salmonella on my floors or carpets.
How do I feed her a raw piece of chicken wing or leg without getting me sick?
@@annahgibbus8 I saw this in one of his videos. No puppy kisses for at least an hour. No one mentions (on any channel I've watched) them spreading it via flooring or surfaces
@@janellittle2323
Thanks so much 😊
I'm not going to chance it though.
I was going to give my pomeranian chicken wings but was told raw chicken bones aren't good any recommendations on other bones to give?
Hey there! Raw chicken wings and feet are good for small dogs!
looks legit, I’ll try this out :)
It would have been reassuring to actually see a small dog enjoying this food. Hoping for the best 🤞🏽
Could have been a paid dog actor though?
Why is too much “nutrient dense “ organs bad?
My dogs will not eat fish or yoghurt, what can I substitute with
algae oil and sauerkraut :-)
My dog is sooo picky. All she wants is chicken. I've tried so many things now. She won't eat this. She tore her acl now. So dealing with that too.
You need to make my recipes, and follow a strict once a day feeding regime. Minimise treats for two weeks until she understands the new routine.
Same as mine,my shitzu eat only chicken breast, chicken liver and beef,my vet Dr.told me that feeding those meat everyday is not good for the dog.
What is corsette?
Courgette = zucchini
My vet just told me to LOWER the amount of meat I feed my Chihuahua due to her heart condition. Can't find any consistent information on line about what is the proper amount or even a homemade recipe that doesn't start out with a pound of hamburger. Which I do not give her. ANYONE have a good recipe for dogs with heart problems. Some say cook the rice others scream don't cook the rice. My dog is 12 and my whole world!
HELP!
I used to cook brown rice or go to chinese and get their small brown rice. I cooked ground pork and squeezed alllll grease out with a quarter can of peas. My pharmacist compounded her essential vitamins. My cat lived to be 21
@@flyinhawaiian7226 Thank you 😊
Can write the recepi
If you write it down post it.
What is courgettes??
zucchini ;)
what is frustrating for me is the UK measurements. i keep look at one feeding chart and my dog's weight, etc. comes to 210 What? g? kg? you go across and then down but what is the number??? really like you but will have to find an American dog nutritionist
Sounds like it would be grams, basically a 100grams equals about three and a half ounces so 210 g is about 7.5 ounces, 500 grams is approximately one pound in weight a kilogramme being 2.2 pounds in weight. Is your dog around 20-25 lbs and you are working on feeding 2% of body weight?

I'm so scared to give my dog raw bones as my friend gave her dog a chicken bone and it choked to death right in front of her. I just can't do it.
Did it choke on a raw bone or was it from a cooked chicken? It's usually the cooked bones that cause problems because they shatter and splinter. Dogs can't properly chew them. Chicken feet are pretty soft. You can go with those. My dogs love them. I cut off the nails before giving them.
@@SilencedByTH-cam It was a cooked bone from the chicken they were eating.
@@r-anne7375 Yeah that's the problem right there. Cooked chicken bone is very bad. Only feed raw chicken bone as it is chewable.
@@r-anne7375my little 4 pound yorkie grabbed a cooked chicken bone I dropped by accident. She's so freaking greedy, She started choking I freaked out but fortunately it came up. It was stuck in her throat I reached in and pulled it out.
OMG, I'm so glad for your fast reaction. So glad your little yorkie is ok. I can see how that can happen. They are always under foot, and if food drops, they are right there to grab it. @@erickanew
Would it be ok for me to put these things in my dog's premade raw food or would I risk giving him too many of certain nutrients.
His food is manifold valley meats. I'd appreciate you reviewing premade raw food as not all of them are good quality.
We were on Durhams but dogs have become ill from it and it seems to have too much bone. I think it would be interesting if you could look at some of these companies so people don't just assume any raw food is good
Viva raw is the best commercial raw on the market.
@@darlamorey4105 haven't actually heard of that one, the one I hear praised the most is naturaw. I get my raw food from a local pet food shop but I'll look into it
@@darlamorey4105 sadly I don't think I can get it in the UK
My Chi died because he ate a beef bone. He chewed it and the slivers of bone eaten acted like glass and he died from it.
thats what I worry about. I think it might matter if cooked or raw. On the chicken bones, I was told nothing but the neck. I am going to see if Cam speaks on the bond issues. Sorry about your wee one.
So sorry
The thing is I have had Chihuahuas and they have a very small neck and could choke very easily
Also He says that dogs are fussy eaters maybe because their is a reason for it
Not all dogs like seeds not all dogs like pumpkin etc also their is the cost I myself have a pug cross and I finically couldn’t afford this my Dog gets a better alternative that is human grade even I would eat it
They still chew. They don't need seeds, or pumpkin. But they can eat both and it's healthy to do so in the right quantities. Find a good meat supplier and it's far more affordable than buying premade.
@@thedognutritionist
The thing is you say it’s more affordable but I’m Disabled and I rely on Certain financial help and I’m unable to do this and I do not have the means to
Also yes my Dog is fed human grade food which is more expensive but it’s good I would quite happily eat
Not everyone has the time to cook this or afford it
The Butchers isn’t always cheaper
Same here. My pomchi would not eat this. I feed Smack raw dehydrated organic dog food. No added synthetics and more affordable that this.
My Pomchi eats this and other recipes, he adores it. I purchase food from supermarket here in Europe which is high quality and what we eat ourselves. I also cut wing tips of raw free range chicken which he loves, he loves chicken feet too.@@annagalati34
I thought chicken heart was classes as muscle meat? If this is the case is it 60% muscle meat and additional 25% chicken heart or is the heart included? Im so goddamn confused
My papillon loved blueberries. If I dropped them on the floor, he would chase them around.
My friends dog died bc of chicken bone
Don’t cook/bake your food on aluminum foil. Use parchment paper.
This video is way too vague. You mention percentages. Percentages by what? Weight, calories, volume? Just provide a dang recipe like any other recipe so people know what the heck to do.
Hi! It's calculated as a percentage of the weight. For more specific recipes, please check it out through this link: www.thedognutritionist.com/products/the-ultimate-homemade-dog-and-puppy-food-recipe-book
I think you have scammed me. There was no free download on your site. I was interested in the vegetables you mentioned that are good either cooked or uncooked. there was no list. I then paid £25.00 for a pdf download which doesn't give me the info that I was looking for. You are a con man. BTW I am a fan of meaty bones etc, as outlined in the book "Give your dog a Bone" by an australian vet, I recommend that book.
Easy tiger! I am not a scammer, I have a part of my website called Free Resources and you can find the free nutrition guide there. What's your email and I can issue a refund if that's what you like!?
Did you really just suggest feeding chicken bones to dogs??
