    I went to a vet a couple of days back. He asked me what my dog eats - and I told him BARF. His reply was that this raises risk of kidney issues and tried to promote me some terrible Hills food with 6% chicken meal and just grains :D Will never visit this vet again.

      It's so sad that so many vets get indoctrinated by these big pet food companies. Hills posted a video recently with abhorrent information on how to judge the quality of a dog's diet and the woman speaking was the head of the veterinarian nutritional education task force or whatever to teach these vets these bad behaviors. It puts them at odds with fresh producers and those seeking to educate like the gentleman above and myself - and it puts confused pet parents in the middle unsure of who to trust. I say neither -- take all the information available and think for yourself! You are their advocate!

    Eggs are good but low in phosphorous. Better to use bone meal powder or a calcium phosphorous powder supplement. Also instead of your supplement use seaweed kelp powder, omega 3 and 6 salmon oil, ground ginger.

    • @thedognutritionist
      @thedognutritionist  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Do not get your self stress out regarding the phosphorus calcium ratio. It's been way over complicated. A good supply of meat and regular raw edible bones, that's all the stress needed on the topic.

We've learned a lot about the benefits of fresh food and have been watching all of your recipe videos!! In all of the recipe videos you bake or boil the muscle meat and organ meat -- are these recipes specifically cooked meals? For a raw diet would you just skip the baking/boiling step?

    Great recipe. Never thought about using the egg shells before, so I will be grinding those up now. I was wondering if a little salt should be added to homemade dog food since I am using all fresh ingredients with no additives?

    • @melissaestes2010
      @melissaestes2010 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there may be salt naturally in your meat source. i looked at my ground turkey & although none was added it said it has sodium when i looked in the nutritional? so i guess it’s natural? maybe research if you didn’t get a better answer good luck

    • @thedognutritionist
      @thedognutritionist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Melissa. You're right. Natural foods have enough sodium, so skip the table salt in homemade dog food. However a little added salt occasionally is perfectly healthy for a dog.

    I hope this question isn't stupid. How do I know what my dog is or isn't allergic to? Should I introduce each new food one at a time? So far she has eaten chicken and beef kibble without issue so I know those are safe but how should I introduce eggs and different other ingredients?
    Also, i gave my dog some raw beef from a short round cut. The next day her poop looked like regular poop with red raw looking beef wrapped around the regular stool. Is that supposed to happen? What should the bowel movement look like when feeding non-kibble?

    Hi. I'm following your guide but I have a question. You consider the weight of the raw meet but after cooking they loose around 30-40% of their weight as they release water, then the final weight and the ratios will be different. I started to consider the weight of the cooked meat but still not sure if I'm right.

    I've seen everywhere that you should never ever give your dogs cooked bones; that they have to be either raw or powdered. The thing is I have a huge fear of bacteria in raw meats and I've read that eggshells aren't the best option either, so I wonder... is the problem with cooked bones just if you feed them whole? or would it be a problem if I fed my dogs with bones that have been grinded into very very small pieces and then cooked? I'm honestly concerned but I can't find any information about this, only the warning that I should never give them cooked bone.

    • @cybirmom
      @cybirmom 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have an instant pot, you can cook chicken bones for 90 to 120 minutes in it- they just crumble and are safe for dogs. You also then have wonderfully nutritious bone broth. Add a little vinegar to the water - cover the chicken carcas with water before cooking- you can also add veggie scraps (no onions or cabbage) to the water for nutrition and flavor. You'd have to cook beef bones a bit longer. Not sure of the time on those.

    The problem with this recipe is the cost to people who can't afford the quality fresh ingredients. Do you have a budget version ? Personally I'm trying to move away from Eden holistic 80/20 dry food and Akela 80/20 and even thought those dried foods are expensive I believe this fresh food recipe is even more expensive. However most normal people on a budget couldn't afford this recipe.

    Cows don't have a 'balanced' diet, monkeys don't, also: wolves, elephants, zebra, unicorns, and many other animals do not eat a balance diet. They eat a species appropriate species specific diet. The only balance in a carnivore's diet would be a proper fat to meat ratio. wolves, dingoes, jackals, coyotes, foxes, and domestic dogs are of the family Carnivora. They eat a meat diet, they are carnivores. I will feed my dog the proper food : Meat and it's associated fat and accompanying byproducts such as some non weight baring bones, cartilage, organs, some eggs, etc Thank you for the video.

    I have started feeding my dog raw but I am so confused I think I am going to go back to kibble.

      Check out my recipe ebook book and guide, it makes it all very clear. Raw fresh food will work to keep your dog out of the vets, I promise. Try to stick with it.

      It doesn’t have to be too complicated. Think about your own plate if you ate meat veggies and fruit only. Only more meat then you’d think they would need.

      @@halabaloux Thanks for your input. I am still feeding raw as I really want to give him the bast I can. If you have a pet that you feed raw did you tell your vet as I have heard that some vets refuse to see dogs fed on raw.

      @@thedognutritionist Thanks Cam. I am still feeding him raw as I want him to have the best I can give him. I looked at your guide and will buy the recipe book to check out what I am doing. Still nervous but will carry on.

      @@Muffin916 when I first got him as a puppy I told my vet that I planned on doing so since my cats were already eating raw. The vet told me to wait until after the first year. I honestly didn’t think I would just because I don’t like kibble. I had to put down a senior cat I had since a kitten because of food related illness. I had told myself I wouldn’t let that happen again if I could help it.
      Anyways, I did keep him on the kibble that his fosters fed him while I was researching dog ratios, but it got to the point where he started refusing to eat the kibble cause he liked what the cats ate better. So I made the switch well before his first year.

    Monogastric animals like chicken are terrible for dogs. Feed your dog meat from ruminants

    This advice is the total opposite of what my vet said. He told me to feed my dog the exact same thing everyday with no variation whatsoever to help his stomach sensitivity.

      I’d get Pumpkin added in to his food. Or get a quality pumpkin & high in pre /probiotics for him. Should help him. Vets have affiliations with big kibble companies & get reduced drugs, for promoting the kibble to clients. It’s sad but most vets have v little dietary studies in degree courses. Many dislike homeopathic remedy’s or natural diets. In my years of experience, it’s the most important thing for maintaining & preventive health in dogs. 🙏🏼
