    Yoga Vasitha is one of my favorite books. I was exposed to it via my Grand father when I was doing my thread ceremony. I think the reason it became less known is that there were not many translations. Actually today I still read the different english translations as they give different ideas. Another reason is that like the Gita it encourages being fully engaged in life while practicing the path. But the difference is in the Gita the emphasis is on Bhakti while Vasistha focusses on pure Jnana. Many ascetics don’t like the idea that householders can also do self-inquiry Jnana so it has been de-emphasised by them as not for the masses. In the Ramayana you can see that self-inquiry and life engagement are actually complimentary in that it builds better character and good natured personality.

      @@ska4666 Ravana was a pure EVIL according to the authentic scriptures of Ramayana. He was not even a *_human being,_* he was a powerful demón King who used to kill humans and had even defeated many deities of God almighty.

      @@jaydutta7711 i think you guys had mistaken the word 'Evil', ...the word referring to the outworldly concept of selfless attributeless evilhood.
      _As we all know Nobody is born evil, their virtues and people have a big hand, i won't go in details for Ravanas past, ...but at most he could be considered a Dushth (≠ Evil at all..), means a person taken over by material qualities, such as extreme greed, lust, ego, jealousy.., that's also a definition of "Asura" which ≠ to Demon of English, hope it helps_

      You should check out Rajiv Malhotra ji's channel, for Sanskrit non-translatables.

    • @jaydutta7711
      @jaydutta7711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ska4666 No, that's not the only defination of Asura, because no human can ever become a literal Asura or a Rakshasa even if they have all these qualities like extreme greed, lust, ego, jealousy. Because Asura and Rakshasas are species which are not humans, and they mostly have these qualities like *_"extreme prey drive, greed, lust, ego, jealousy, super aggression etc"_*
      So I can assure you that I have not mistaken the word 'Evil', you are using the word evil by applying it to the outworldly concept of selfless attributeless evilhood of human beings, because humans can be influenced or possessed by Evil, but that doesn't mean that humans are born Evil like Ravana and other Asuras & Rakshasas... You are judging Asuras as per human perception and analogy, which is not correct. And that's you have made your mistake because we all know that Nobody (refering to humans or animals) are born evil, their virtues is... But the same cannot be said to the dedicated species like Rakshasas and Asuras who are born with the mindset of evil. They have evil mindset by default since they are born except for some few exceptions like *_Prahllad, Raja bali and Vivisham_* the younger brother of demón King Ravana. And their physical bodies are also designed for that purpose in order to perform as per their evil mindset. And that's why you see most demóns and monsters having physical pre-installed weapons like bigger canines, longer claws like carnivorous prehistoric animals, and weird horror looking faces along with abnormally gigantic extra large bodies unlike us human beings or animals.

    • @jaydutta7711
      @jaydutta7711 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ska4666 And I have watched Rajiv Malhotra ji's channel, for Sanskrit non-translatables. That's why I can assure you that demón King Ravana was not a human being, he was a Rakshasa who was not homo sapiens.
      Although Ravana is been worshipped too in some few places but not for any *_good reason,_* but for just being a great powerful demón King & lord SHIVA devotee by ignoring the fact that he used to kill human beings and had even defeated many deities of God who works for the God almighty.
      Ravana was a merciless serial rapìst also who he had ràped many womén before, including the married ones in his life. And here's the verse from Valmiki Ramayana I'm going quote you here, please read em up and educate yourself before praising a character like Ravana.
      *Chapter 36 verse 69 ।। (उत्तरकाण्ड)*
      एवमुक्त्वा स तां रक्षो निवेश्य च शिलातले ।कामभोगाभिसंसक्तो मैथुनायोपचक्रमे ।।
      The meaning of this verse is that the demon king Ravana by force made Rambha sit on the rock and then engaged in sexual pleasure *_"forcefully had intercourse with her"._*
      That's why the supreme God Vishnu had to descent on earth to save humankind from the demon King Ravana.

    Yoga Vasistha is a very profound text on life and spiritual realization. With different stories that deals with the human condition and its relationship with the ultimate truth. Many years ago I bought the book in Rishikesh and what I like the most about that edition is that it is divided in a lesson for each day of the year. Which is really helpful because that way one can read and reflect on those teachings on a daily basis. A MUST read for all Ram devotees and seekers.

    Even the gurus of Adi Shankaracharya were Advaitins, who came from a very old tradition, so, it's factually incorrect to say Adi Shankaracharya 'brought' Advaita.As, you yourself say that Maharamayana itself gives out Advaita philosophy, which is much much earlier than Adi Guru Shankaracharya.

Arjun and Krishna died without leaving any manuscript necessary to print. The earliest printing of Geta occurred in the 15th century, after many generations over a few centuries without any manuscript containing the verbal discourse. Historical facts lead to the truth. Just one thing, saying "whether you belong to sanātana dharma or not" is equivalent to saying "whether you live in the universe or not".
    The right way of putting it is "whether you have realised your eternal duty (sanātana dharma) or not". Many Hindus have not realised, some non Hindus have realised.

But I was NOT aware that the bhagavad gita and mahabharata is mentioned in yoga vasishta! I was NOT prepared to hear that! I don't know what to make of this information! This means, not only did maharishi vasishta know of these events, but maharishi valmiki who wrote both raamaayanams also knew. And this sacred knowledge of bhagavad gita which was first passed on to surya dev by shri hari, made its way to maharishi vasishta who passed it on to shri raam who then passed it on to arjuna when he took birth as shri krshna! I am awestruck and at a loss of words... Thanks project shivoham team! You have my endless gratitude! My morning was made divine by this video and am hyped for uttara kaand video. As I decided to read rlvalmiki raamayanam finally, I started with uttara kaanda where they describe raavans birth and timeline till his death. To build up the picture of the main antagonist, his deeds, his empire and how much chaos he created. Reading raamaayanam after that would be divine experience I think.

      Lol another 'Inner engineer'... Who believes whatever a man says about the Bhagwaan and want to secularize Dharma and it's devatas, while the man himself who gives this gyan claims to have not read Shaastras.

    I am currently making my way through the (70 part) Yoga Vasishtha lecture series provided by the Chicago Vedanta Society, in preparation for the next video on my channel which connects yoga asanas to the stories and philosophies they come from. this video was very helpful in terms of providing an overview of this massive text, and explaining its relevance to the rest of the Ramayana story.

    Again, you have surprised many like me. We always have heard of Ramayan and it's the first time heard of Yoga Vashishyam. Thanks a lot for sharing this information and will need to spread this in entirety to bring back the glory of Sanatana Dharma 🙏
