Translation O expert and thoughtful men, relish Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the mature fruit of the desire tree of Vedic literatures. It emanated from the lips of Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī. Therefore this fruit has become even more tasteful, although its nectarean juice was already relishable for all, including liberated souls. Purport In the two previous ślokas it has been definitely proved that the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the sublime literature which surpasses all other Vedic scriptures due to its transcendental qualities. It is transcendental to all mundane activities and mundane knowledge. In this śloka it is stated that Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is not only a superior literature but is the ripened fruit of all Vedic literatures. In other words, it is the cream of all Vedic knowledge. Considering all this, patient and submissive hearing is definitely essential. With great respect and attention, one should receive the message and lessons imparted by the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. The Vedas are compared to the desire tree because they contain all things knowable by man. They deal with mundane necessities as well as spiritual realization. The Vedas contain regulative principles of knowledge covering social, political, religious, economic, military, medicinal, chemical, physical and metaphysical subject matter and all that may be necessary to keep the body and soul together. Above and beyond all this are specific directions for spiritual realization. Regulative knowledge involves a gradual raising of the living entity to the spiritual platform, and the highest spiritual realization is knowledge that the Personality of Godhead is the reservoir of all spiritual tastes, or rasas. Every living entity, beginning from Brahmā, the first-born living being within the material world, down to the insignificant ant, desires to relish some sort of taste derived from sense perceptions. These sensual pleasures are technically called rasas. Such rasas are of different varieties. In the revealed scriptures the following twelve varieties of rasas are enumerated: (1) raudra (anger), (2) adbhuta (wonder), (3) śṛṅgāra (conjugal love), (4) hāsya (comedy), (5) vīra (chivalry), (6) dayā (mercy), (7) dāsya (servitorship), (8) sakhya (fraternity), (9) bhayānaka (horror), (10) bībhatsa (shock), (11) śānta (neutrality), (12) vātsalya (parenthood). The sum total of all these rasas is called affection or love. Primarily, such signs of love are manifested in adoration, service, friendship, parental affection, and conjugal love. And when these five are absent, love is present indirectly in anger, wonder, comedy, chivalry, fear, shock and so on. For example, when a man is in love with a woman, the rasa is called conjugal love. But when such love affairs are disturbed there may be wonder, anger, shock, or even horror. Sometimes love affairs between two persons culminate in ghastly murder scenes. Such rasas are displayed between man and man and between animal and animal. There is no possibility of an exchange or rasa between a man and an animal or between a man and any other species of living beings within the material world. The rasas are exchanged between members of the same species. But as far as the spirit souls are concerned, they are one qualitatively with the Supreme Lord. Therefore, the rasas were originally exchanged between the spiritual living being and the spiritual whole, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The spiritual exchange or rasa is fully exhibited in spiritual existence between living beings and the Supreme Lord. The Supreme Personality of Godhead is therefore described in the śruti-mantras, Vedic hymns, as “the fountainhead of all rasas.” When one associates with the Supreme Lord and exchanges one’s constitutional rasa with the Lord, then the living being is actually happy. These śruti-mantras indicate that every living being has its constitutional position, which is endowed with a particular type of rasa to be exchanged with the Personality of Godhead. In the liberated condition only, this primary rasa is experienced in full. In the material existence, the rasa is experienced in the perverted form, which is temporary. And thus the rasas of the material world are exhibited in the material form of raudra (anger) and so on. Therefore, one who attains full knowledge of these different rasas, which are the basic principles of activities, can understand the false representations of the original rasas which are reflected in the material world. The learned scholar seeks to relish the real rasa in the spiritual form. In the beginning he desires to become one with the Supreme. Thus, less intelligent transcendentalists cannot go beyond this conception of becoming one with the spirit whole, without knowing of the different rasas.

Translation The great sage, who was fully equipped in knowledge, could see through his transcendental vision the deterioration of everything material due to the influence of the age. He could also see that the faithless people in general would be reduced in duration of life and would be impatient due to lack of goodness. Thus he contemplated for the welfare of men in all statuses and orders of life. Purport The unmanifested forces of time are so powerful that they reduce all matter to oblivion in due course. In Kali-yuga, the last millennium of a round of four millenniums, the power of all material objects deteriorates by the influence of time. In this age the duration of the material body of the people in general is much reduced, and so is the memory. The action of matter has also not so much incentive. The land does not produce food grains in the same proportions as it did in other ages. The cow does not give as much milk as it used to give formerly. The production of vegetables and fruits is less than before. As such, all living beings, both men and animals, do not have sumptuous, nourishing food. Due to want of so many necessities of life, naturally the duration of life is reduced, the memory is short, intelligence is meager, mutual dealings are full of hypocrisy and so on. The great sage Vyāsadeva could see this by his transcendental vision. As an astrologer can see the future fate of a man, or an astronomer can foretell the solar and lunar eclipses, those liberated souls who can see through the scriptures can foretell the future of all mankind. They can see this due to their sharp vision of spiritual attainment. And all such transcendentalists, who are naturally devotees of the Lord, are always eager to render welfare service to the people in general. They are the real friends of the people in general, not the so-called public leaders who are unable to see what is going to happen five minutes ahead. In this age the people in general as well as their so-called leaders are all unlucky fellows, faithless in spiritual knowledge and influenced by the Age of Kali. They are always disturbed by various diseases. For example, in the present age there are so many TB patients and TB hospitals, but formerly this was not so because the time was not so unfavorable. The unfortunate men of this age are always reluctant to give a reception to the transcendentalists who are representatives of Śrīla Vyāsadeva and selfless workers always busy in planning something which may help everyone in all statuses and orders of life. The greatest philanthropists are those transcendentalists who represent the mission of Vyāsa, Nārada, Madhva, Caitanya, Rūpa, Sarasvatī, etc. They are all one and the same. The personalities may be different, but the aim of the mission is one and the same, namely, to deliver the fallen souls back home, back to Godhead.

I wish the schools here in America would teach the things I learned on this channel, I grew up here in America thinking that India had hardly any history or books and it took me until the internet showed up to realize I was quite wrong. Apparently if I wanted to buy all of these books I would have to save up for several years or longer lol
@@Enlightening_Soul that's why it should be actually taught here in America at an early age so that we can get through as much of it as we can and still remember it. Most classrooms all the way up to college pretty much only teach history that is either American history or topics that happened in the Bible, yes that's still the case even though we have removed religion from schools. Here in America it is very confusing in fact the schools now are teaching that the black slaves that were one of the main pillars of American growth came to America voluntarily. Everybody knows that's not true. Something needs to happen and we need to start learning our history correctly you know?

This is really great video and highly requested to make a series on each one of the Veda’s. I know this needs huge hours and research so this should be made an division in our education system like separate subject and have students, teachers work on that so that technology and roots vedas can go hand in hand and even the other current subjects can refer these Vedas. I always believe that we r trying to reinvent the wheel when there is already manual existed in these vedas. Apart from that for project shivoham if there is anything that we viewers can do please let know and we r here to support this work🙏

Somehow the books that we studied during the school days didn't have any of this. Hoping that things will change in the new education policy. Keep it up and BIG thank you once again
my heartfelt appreciation for your outstanding TH-cam video. It was not only informative but also incredibly well-presented. Your expertise and clarity in explaining Sanatana topics left a lasting impact. Thank you for your dedication to creating valuable content. Looking forward to more enlightening videos from you!
A mind blowing and astounding video, and this was just one part of the sanatana dharma, with others being vedas and upanishads. My reverence for sanatana dharma only grows with time. My homage to the unlimited wealth of knowledge that is sanatana dharma. And this video really wants me to gather the books and read up on all of them. I find most of your videos geeky, but I really enjoyed this video. My problem with books is where do I find the best book, the best translation and the best publication. Or can I read whatever I find? A video on Buddha would be good Cos many feel that it was incorporated out of necessity. And since Ved Vyas happened before Buddha, so how could he have known about Buddha. I have no doubts about the great powers of ved Vyas, but did he see it coming, or the later Hindus adopted Buddha as their own. Also how did Vyas know about later dynasties like maurya and sunga, or was the puranas compiled by someone else? I will now follow your videos more keenly. A video on Radha would be good too Cos many claim her as being not real. I have a curious mind so I would love to hear from you.
A millionth time is how I wish to read/understand all these 'Amrith/ Gems' of pure knowledge/truths/ philosophies of life, nature, God Conciousness, Shakthi & many other words that we use to describe about our vast, ancient vedic Ithihasa, Puranas, which could take, not one but many lifetimes to know/understand, practice & experience. I wish I could put my hands on each of these 18 Ithihasas & in a instant, it's full knowledge just gets imported to my brain & intellect for me to appreciate their meanings & also to share/enlighten other like minded souls. Thank you project Shivoham for this & other informative videos.

A comprehensive yet concise coverage of all the 18 purnanas. The presentation style is appreciable. I personally got to know a good amount of information on these puranas from this video.
Hope these ancient teachings can find its way back into our school system syllabus for our kids to learn, appreciate and pass down. Another brilliant video from Project Shivoham 🙏🏼
Yes it surely is going to find its way back into our school system as per the new education policy but only in minuscule. We must not forget that the teachers have vast syllabus to cover along with the record keeping and paper making, etc. So perhaps they will only be able to touch just a few points if they themselves have read them. I think parents should take the responsibility of imparting this ancient knowledge to their kids in their early years rather than making them sit in front of senseless chinese cartoon shows loaded with violence and no moral values. We will then have a new generation with our Indian value systems.
Absolutely Thrilling how our Ancient Rishis Eloborated the world & it's Creation to connection to ultimately to individual human ❤🙏 Unmistakable unmissable Compilation
I'm amazed by the vast knowledge our ancient ancestors possessed. Thank you so much for taking time to research, prepare and sharing this invaluable wisdom for us, Bharatians.
Very scholarly and nicely done video encapsulating the essence of each of our puranas. They are truly mind boggling. My dadaji had translated Padmapuranam to kannada under the banner of Jayachamaraja Granthamala - a series started by Late maharajah of MYsore, HH Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar back in 1940s. Many years ago, I had watched a documentary here in Australia, on one of our TV channels which closely followed the conception and development of fetus right from the beginning. In one of my visits to a ISKCON retreat one of the swamis discussed the same documentary in the light of Kapila Rsi's description of fetus development to his mother Devahuti in Srimad BHagavat Puranam. As you rightly noted, it is mind boggling to see such advanced scientific knowledge and details given thousands of years ago. It will be totally foolish of us to reject our wonderful and extensive knowledge as mere "myth". A loud applause to you and your team!
A much needed objective brief introduction to Puranam. Not only did it demystify what is Purunam, but brought awareness to the extent and roots of our practices. One must appreciate the fact that Sanathana Dharma didn't develop by amalgamating selected text to drive theology in a particular direction. Rather, the texts are there open for all to learn, find contradiction, debate and keep the Dharma a thriving and robust philosophy on divinity that we find today. Kudos to the researcher.
Swamiye Saranam Ayyappaa ❤. We call it as Puranam in malayalam not puran Or purana 😊. Thank you guru for bringing this precious knowledge of our ancestors.
Hindi deviated from Sanskrit dieting middle ages … most of the words spoken in south are cut short in Hindi … that’s why purest form of Sanskrit is tillnalove only in Telugu , Malayalam , Tamil

But still there r people who r proud of our ancient culture and understanding towards the world, humanity and about the reality and love to watch such videos, though numbers r very few. Synonyms
nigama - the Vedic literatures; kalpa-taroḥ - the desire tree; galitam - fully matured; phalam - fruit; śuka - Śrīla Śukadeva Gosvāmī, the original speaker of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam; mukhāt - from the lips of; amṛta - nectar; drava - semisolid and soft and therefore easily swallowable; saṁyutam - perfect in all respects; pibata - do relish it; bhāgavatam - the book dealing in the science of the eternal relation with the Lord; rasam - juice (that which is relishable); ālayam - until liberation, or even in a liberated condition; muhuḥ - always; aho - O; rasikāḥ - those who are full in the knowledge of mellows; bhuvi - on the earth; bhāvukāḥ - expert and thoughtful.
Translation
O expert and thoughtful men, relish Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the mature fruit of the desire tree of Vedic literatures. It emanated from the lips of Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī. Therefore this fruit has become even more tasteful, although its nectarean juice was already relishable for all, including liberated souls.
Purport
In the two previous ślokas it has been definitely proved that the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the sublime literature which surpasses all other Vedic scriptures due to its transcendental qualities.

Translation
The great sage, who was fully equipped in knowledge, could see through his transcendental vision the deterioration of everything material due to the influence of the age. He could also see that the faithless people in general would be reduced in duration of life and would be impatient due to lack of goodness. Thus he contemplated for the welfare of men in all statuses and orders of life.
Purport
The unmanifested forces of time are so powerful that they reduce all matter to oblivion in due course.

Great Work Sir. I am from India. I was always endeavour to know about our ancient Scriptures but didn't get such simplified brief idea to start with. Now I'm 25 years old. And after 25 years of my life journey finally I found a Great "Guru" to start my learning about Vedic knowledge. Thank you so much Sir. Please make more videos to assist the people, specifically young generation who really want to know the real meaning of Sanatana Dharma and the fact of all the Ancient Scriptures.

I wish the schools here in America would teach the things I learned on this channel, I grew up here in America thinking that India had hardly any history or books and it took me until the internet showed up to realize I was quite wrong.
Apparently if I wanted to buy all of these books I would have to save up for several years or longer lol
@JillValentine-ix4ql unfortunately that is the case and it's regrettable.
The Amount of History India has, no country can ever have. Not trying to be rude but any religion can fact check it.
The books, if they are published in India, are not expensive at all.

Thanks for explaining our Puranas in so much detail and summarising the important points of each Purana. Har Har Mahadev 🙏🕉️

Just what the need of the hour is... Bharat and Sanatan Dharma is criticised for being too Mystical and mythological about the stories in Puranas... Now with this 'Doc Film', everyone will understand why Puranam is one of the most essential part of the entire knowledge System.... Thanks for enlightening us.. This is by far the most interesting and important of your Doc Films. As always thanks for uploading the doc film. Your Die Hard Fan... UD...
How come it be a "need of the hour" if it's not an hour but an entire future
Only brainless idiots who don't and can't understand our great sanathana dharma criticize.
Apart from that for project shivoham if there is anything that we viewers can do please let know and we r here to support this work🙏
Thank you very much for the clear and concise summary of all 18 Puranas. This can be a starting point for getting to know the Bharatiya Knowledge Systems.
We should have learnt this in our school days. No one knows about this knowledge. Thanks for your information. This should be included in education

Much needed video. We always thought of long Purans, who will read, it's for sadhus etc. But as we slowly knew about our culture. It makes us more curious to understand our own culture. Even if we may not read all but at least some can be read if we have devotion towards any topic of ours😊
Thanks to you for explaining all Purans names. Atleast we have an idea now where we can start.

WOW!!! Thank you for making and presenting this documentary. In recent times, we growing up in India have never tuned to this type of quest for the knowledge. my heartfelt appreciation for your outstanding TH-cam video.

Thank you immensely for your video. I am proud to be able to link myself with our great ancestors.
Please keep up your great efforts. Kudos!

People like u r impeccably required for the sanatan dharma whose valuable contribution will never let our sanatan dharma disappear in the dust of modernity and for that I m very grateful to people like u. Pl keep making such videos and I appreciate all ur efforts even if I m not able to watch them regularly. Believe me , we r with u, with all ir efforts, ur every drop will add in divinity. Hari Om

A well researched documentary on the Puranas. Was wondering throughout on how you were able to encapsulate such a wide variety of information in 37 min.
