Hey well done man. I used the 4Runner metal front inner fender wells, and what are like hard black plastic 4Runner rear “inner fender wells”. The tears are less wells and more just a straight piece giving an appearance of a fender well. Got both off RC4WD’s website, and both look really good. Do have to trim the height of the rear ones just a bit to get the bed to sit on it’s rear support. I can send pics to you somewhere if you want to see them all mounted. Anyway, keep up the great work.
At the 8:00 mark, you talk about fine tuning the hood. I’m doing one o these builds right now, and I noticed that when the hood closes, one side (passenger side) of the hood doesn’t sit completely flush with the body. Did you notice the same with yours?
That’s a 85 it was the last year with a straight front axle I had that exact truck! Porsche red ( second paint job ) tan and brown interior , four & three lift kit with 33” tires. Honestly only two things are different one is I had yellow rough country shocks and the other was I had a four inch pipe bumper in the rear. Incredible
Loving this and for somebody that doesn't do shiny paint thats an awesome finish my friend top job for sure! Also loving the interior looks really good! I was hoping the door panels weren’t glued!! Bought a RTR and want to paint them. Don’t know how I’m gonna get them off. I’m like you when it come to painting!! If you see this and have any suggestions let me know. Thank you!! Would love to paint the interior like yours. Great job!! I wouldn’t worry about the small stuff!!

Sorry about asking where you got the 87 hard shell don’t be hard on yourself by the way I love that clearcoat stuff is just about rockhard they do amazing job on their bodies by the looks of it I’m gonna try to get my son who is for a trail runner for Christmas

Thinking about trying RC rock crawling, and I daily drive a '94 Toyota XtraCab DLX 4x4 (22RE, 5 speed, same cardinal red, you can see it on my channel) so this body appeals to me. But it sounds like the painting sucks. I just want glossy red, and if that can't be achieved with just spray can (primer, color, and perhaps a clear coat) then I think it might be too over my head. I don't have a paint gun / airbrush setup and don't plan on getting one because if I could just buy this body already gloss red, I'd be all about that.

All my rigs end up being a shade of blue haha so I want to change it up. I’m building on ssd trail king. Just got a castle 2280 mamba x set up and reefs 444 with Rc4wd 4.19 mtr tires. By far the highest end rig I’ve built to date haha
Personally, I'd've painted it Macco style, put it all together, mask the important stuff and then hit it with paint. Like body post things on my gelande II when the old ones stripped out, I just bought some really short suspension links instead of the original mounts because they were cheaper and I could use my hoard of m3 screws instead of m2s.

Yes, I can’t tell if it’s too much paint in the gaps or what yet. I started filing the magnet down some in front.

The interior painting is the easy part. I always use satin or matte paints to look the part.

Two part epoxy? Tamiya plastic cement has always worked for me, in fact I have snapped abs right next to the glued joint. Why do you mix glue?

It started out just a tamiya red paint, but my friend repeated it with some custom mixed red he had.

It could be done. I’ve seen some mounts for sale on eBay to fit other Rc4wd bodies on axial chassis. Sure they have some for this body by now.

Yeah I suck at shiny paint jobs. You can get a good finish with spray paints though. I’ve had a few over the years.
