  • One of our favourite bands ever on the road in 2022 - let’s meet them and see their gear
Life too short for long TH-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
Welcome to the show! This is a massive day for us. Split Enz and Crowded House have played the soundtrack to so much of our lives to date, influencing our understanding of harmony and melody right up there with all the greats of songwriting and performing.
We were thrilled to be able to meet Neil Finn and his son, Liam, during their 2022 Dreamers Are Waiting tour with Crowded House.
In this video - with huge thanks to tech, Marcus Catanzaro - we get a detailed look at the guys’ gear before having a chat with each of them and hearing a few tones. There’s also some fantastic insight to the life of a top-flight tech alongside a brief glimpse into the minds and thoughts of two immensely creative musicians and writers.
We’d like to add a special note of sincere thanks to Marcus and the whole Crowed House crew for being so kind and making us so welcome, especially on a show day where everyone is ON! It is a truly humbling experience.
    Enjoy the show!

Fantastic episode. I couldn't say I listen to Neil Finn or Crowded House that much, but I can recall that one of my favourite gigs ever was Neil and Tim Finn at the Union Chapel, Islington in 1995. A mate had tickets and I went along. Great venue, great gig and very engaging musicians. Neil comes across well in any interview.

I've been a fan of NF's music ever since I saw the video for "I Got You" back in the early 80's. He's my favorite songwriter too, and his personality is so genuine and down to earth. I'd love to meet him someday. So glad to see CH continuing on, I think with the addition of Liam, Elroy and Mitchell, that the band is in good hands for as long as they want to go with it. It's a really good lineup and is possibly the best at playing the songs with every detail as was on the records. Hoping to see them back in the USA this year!

Neil is my all time favorite musician. Have seen CH, Neil solo and the 'brothers' tour w/ Tim several times each. As much as I love CH, I think the solo shows were my favorite. Besides being a great songwriter and performing musician, the man is incredibly charming on stage, just really connects w/ the audience.

Amazing, beautiful. Great job guys. Classic down to earth and humble Kiwis. I grew up in NZ listening to Split Enz, Crowded House etc. Part of my life sound track. Love all the Finns music including Tim as well. Roundhead studio is a great place to visit and work in as well. Often Neil has some of his collection of guitars on hand and they are available to use which is pretty awesome! Though when I was there a few years back most of his gear was out wth Fleetwood Mac.

Neil is one of my all-time heroes too, one of the best pop songwriters since the Beatles, an amazing singer, really solid guitar and keyboard player and all-around really nice guy. I really like Crowded House's latest album too, a few tracks like Start of Something are up there with their best. Thanks guys, loved this one!!

Best video I've seen in a while.
Neil Finn is a genius. IMHO, it won't be long before he's up for a knighthood.
In my experience if you like Crowded House, you like Squeeze and vice versa, so Dan, if you're not familiar with Squeeze, it's about time you were.
I've seen Neil play with Johnny Marr and Roddy Frame, about 20-something years back. My dream would be to see him do a collaboration with Difford & Tilbrook.
The mention of the Sydney Opera House Farewell gig, brings back memories of Paul Hester...

What a treat! I smiled immediately when I saw Neil's vintage Hot Cake - I (along with pretty much every guitarist in NZ in the 70's) had one on the floor. I recently reconnected with Paul and he shot me a Double Hotcake (my old one got lost or 'borrowed' somewhere along the line). Having those 3 different sounds available is really something. I have followed Neil's music since the early days when he opened for the Enz mid-70's in Wellington - his solo vocal and acoustic guitar set was amazing . . . He and Tim have contributed so much to NZ music, certainly an inspiration for us in Schtung when we started out! Thanks to all concerned for such a cool in-depth look at the gear . . . Magnatone for Xmas, then !!! :)

The simplicity of a genius. Neil has a very «singer/songwriter» approach to guitar, something I really can relate to. All gear, sound and guitars are there to serve the song.
Liam and his board is much more about indulging oneself and doing wacky «pedal-things». Which, let’s face it, is what TPS is all about too.
So funny to see Mitchell Froom in the background, minding his own business and just getting on with it. One of the greatest producers around. Besides producing Crowded House he’s also produced the likes of Richard Thompson. Another hero of all of us, I bet.

One of my favorite bands of the 1980s and 1990s... my favorite memory is them coming on stage at the Torhout (Belgium) festival in 1992 after it had been raining almost all day, playing 'Weather with You' and the sun coming out almost as if they had summoned it.
    Happy days!
    Massive thanks for this episode!

    This is great!
One of the greatest pop songwriters around, and a competent guitar player as well.
    Mahalos, my friends! 🤙🎸🎶
