TWINS are often born identical, but in the case of a Florida brother and sister, the two couldn’t look more different. Nine-year-old She’riq, of Pembroke Pines, was born with Albinism, but her twin brother Te’riq was born without the condition. One in 18,000 to 20,000 people in the United States are born with Albinism, which causes pale skin, sensitivity to the sun, and eyesight issues. This wasn’t the first experience of Albinism for parents Sherria and Terry Elliott Sr., who had welcomed a daughter with the same condition 10 years before the twins. Now 20, older sister Sheterria has been a mentor and support for She’riq, having navigated the negativity that can come when living with a misunderstood condition.

@@samjones6046 Yes, anyone with albinism (white or black) is sensitive to light and has issues with the eyes. But the levels are very different. Some are fine using only glasses and others are blind.
There is also severe forms which come with additional disabilities, but this is rare and does not seem to affect this family.

Other countries with descendants of African slaves do not give their kids names like this...and in county in Africa name their kids based on tribal or ancestral/family connections. You will not find Africans putting commas, and or dashes in their children’s names❗️

For as long as I can remember I’ve always thought albinism was beautiful. Both daughters are stunning and not just them. The pictures that we could see on display were absolutely breathtaking. It sucks that some of these children get made fun of for this!!. The parents of the bullies they need to do better. This should never be OK. I wish these girls so much success and happiness in their life.
This and vitiligo i think are such beautiful ways for God to make you walking art…it’s so sad these unique people are teased. I think it’s secretly jealously. To turn heads just by existing, that’s the only thing i can think.

She meant that there's 1/75 that one of the twins will have the condition. It's a common condition for twins to but never for just one of them, usually both twins have it or not but not just one of the two...

Probably yes. There are different types of albinism, but this seems to be Oculocutaneous albinism (but I'm not an expert, this is just what I think it is, it could be wrong). So they inherited the recessive alleles ("Gene-types") from their parents. So it is a hereditary condition. And the parents are both carriers of one defect allel that can't produce melanin and one that can.
The likeliness of having a kid with albinism refers to any parent, but when you already had a kid with albinism and factor that in, then the likeliness of having another with albinism is obviously higher because then you wouldn't use statistics but stochastics to analyze the likeliness (of course it would also be higher if you'd know your genotype, bc then you could also use stochastics).

Yeah, skin doesn't have any intrinsic colour, its melanin which generates in skin due to UV radiation high UV radiation means high melanin means dark complexion, it protects skin from skin cancer, the survival rate of black is high thats why majority of the people r black due to high uv radiation while survival rate of albino is high in europe thats why majority of people r white there...

I started getting teary eyed because I am so glad the big sister has her little sister to bond with but also so glad the little sister has her big sister to look up to and to help navigate life. She won't have to go through much of what big sis went through.

If anyone else is wondering about her eyes it’s called nystagmus and it goes hand in hand with albinism. My son has moderate albinism and also has nystagmus
Everybody has nystagmus, however her's is highly visible very common in albinism. Nystagmus also becomes visible with alcohol, some drugs and some head injuries

Carsyn Gordon his isn’t as bad as hers, in fact as he got older he was able to control them, but if something goes close to his eyes they start going crazy. If he covers one eye the other eye starts bouncing around like a ball in a pin ball machine, it freaks people out.

Hello guys i am from Singapore i am coming to 39 this year in august. Honestly watching this type of video featuring people that are born different tells me to be really grateful with what i have! Is better to have some things rather than having anything LESS. And i am so glad that the way She'Riq and her elder sister are being educated and raised by their parents telling them to be grateful with what they have and be PROUD of who they are! Kudos to their parents. I hope those people that are born different will look up to them and make them as their role models.

Around 20 years ago I saw a child with albinism begging at the streets of Mexico city under the direct sunlight, he already had some sun burns. My heart still aches for him. I just don't understand this world.
Damn, ma’am that must have been tough as a teen I believe they must be a lot of good people but circumstances makes them unable to take action.... probably other people experienced how you felt and someone who fit the criteria for helping that child got the job done.

You young ladies are simply beautiful. I was born and lived in the U.S. 68 years (Fort Lauderdale for 47) and have lived in Ecuador 9 years. Ecuador is a mixture of people from all over the world. Differences are rarely noticed. All people are treated with respect and you feel it from the moment you arrive here. You are a fantastic example of what a family should be.
