Honestly these interviews are always difficult to understand... what does very conservative mean? It's pretty subjective without comparison. Italy is still among the most liberal countries worldwide, not among the top 15 like Sweden, Norway or Netherlands maybe, definitely better on how it was depicted in this vlog
Since the topic is romantic relationships, I take it that very conservative in this context means traditional gender roles in the domestic realm, maybe implicitly machismo facilitated through patriarchal values. These are things I would typically associate...
@@leoniep9231 that spektrum is still very wide and quite frankly you have all kind of couples from the most equal in terms of roles to the most conservative examples of patriarchal society. Same counts for the LGBT community of which I am part. I live in Berlin which is a super friendly city, more than Italy, but that doesn't mean that I feel uncomfortable or much more discriminated in my own country (except from the politics)
@@tanner293 Sure, on an individual level people might differ, but in the context of the interviews I thought it was pretty clear what kind of things people considered conservative. One example they gave was that patriarchal standard of women being judged for being promiscuous, but not men. That is a very traditional, i.e. conservative, stance based on patriarchal values which were enforced even more strongly then compared to today. They also gave different examples about the acceptance of feminism in the country and people not necessarily being comfortable with calling themselves feminist, which is also conservative in the sense that feminism is a relatively new concept and would maybe seem a revolutionary or even threatening concept to a conservative person because it rethinks and restructures society in a way, thereby challenging the status quo and the privileges of certain demographic groups (i.e. primarily men, primarily white men etc). Also the discrimination of (pregnant) women in the workplace I would consider conservative, since in earlier times it was rather unusual for women to work - they were told they needed to prioritize their domestic responsibilities and were even forbidden to work at all without their husband's permission. Cultural remnants of these things that still affect how women are perceived today (and also certain political movements who want to return to women in general prioritizing family life over a career) I would consider conservative. It's similar in Greece where part of my family is from, so maybe the association of these things with the conservative came naturally for me... I don't know, maybe it's not as obvious as I think it is. I am not sure what you mean by LGBTQ couples in Berlin being conservative, could you elaborate? Do you mean politically conservative in terms of what political party they vote for? If you like, you can try to explain in German, if you like, maybe then both of us will understand better what the other person means :)
@@leoniep9231 I think there is almost no country where a woman is judged at least a bit for being promiscuous more then men, I don't think Italy is such extreme . As much as I think there is no country where all women embrace all causes of feminism. Job market in Italy is quite bad compared to more advanced economies, therefore employers have more negotiation power when hiring as there is more people that the market can absorb, therefore of course they feel more free to ask certain questions. Said that, women in Italy work also in pregnancy age, female unemplyment rate is just 1% point above Sweden, lower then the one in Spain where feminism nowadays is very strong and usually considered more progressive than Italy. Not defending these employers, just explaning the situation. Anyway my point was, if Italy is very conservative in a world wide spektrum, I wonder what integralist muslim countries are
Very conservative (or far right) nowadays means that ur not super liberal/woke since apparently there is nothing between these two extremes. Everything else runs on a spectrum except for someone's social/economic/political views.
This lady's testimony is relevant up to the point where she says that we should not generalize. Instead, when she generalizes, we can dispense with her opinions. Anyway, thank you.
most views when it comes to dating culture etc ARE generalizations....thats how it works...never does 100% of the population fit a mold but there are trends
Is it going to be any different with a guy? Humans are biased and imperfect and if you want an unbiased conversation on any topic you need to go to another dimension because it simply isn't possible in this world.
Men want women with a small amount of sexual experience or none at all - women, on the other hand, want men with a lot of or some sexual experience. Most women want a guy who is good-looking, tall, wealthy/good job, intelligent, has status, fit and strong body, etc. These men are in the top 10-20% of men. These guys are the ones who have a high body count, and women know this. However, they will still pursue and settle with these guys even if their body count is high because they don't care in the same way as men. They don't value a high body count negatively but positively (Only if the body count gets insanely high, like 100+, but this is a SMALL minority of men!). Men and women seek the opposite in a partner. Most women want a masculine, tall, strong, intelligent man, etc., even though they don't have any of these things themselves but have the opposite characteristics (Nothing wrong with these opposite preferences).
Yes, I am talking in general about what the majority of men and women want and think. Also, remember women can just ask a random man on the street for sex, while MOST(99 % of men) men need to persuade women and/or have built themselves up tremendously, which can make their access to sex a bit easier but still requires some "skill.". This is one of the reasons why promiscuous women are frowned upon because it is easy,
Thats not true at all! Most woman dont "want" men with a lot of sexual experience. As a woman, i have never ever heard of it. Most virgin woman actually want virgin man or man with a little sexual experiences. Same with woman who has some sexual experience. I dont ever understand how can you guys are so sure of what woman wants and thinks "generally". As a woman even i cant say what woman wants confidently. "Most women want a guy who is good-looking, tall, wealthy/good job, intelligent, has status, fit and strong body, etc. These men are in the top 10-20% of men" That's another bull. If most woman wanted that, than most men would be like what you describe: good-looking, tall, wealthy/good job, intelligent, has status, fit and strong body, etc. Its usually men who want good looking, fit woman. You cannot see fat/overweight woman with a nice/good looking partner often, whereas it is the oppsite for fat/over weight man and good looking woman. Most man in this world are not wealthy/rich and lots of them has loving, faithful wives, but we have a saying in my country: The first thing a poor man does after finding money is divorcing his wife! What is a status? Is it about money? Is it about being liked by people? Respected by them? You seem so shallow. God forbid woman wanting some "intelligence" from man. Your comment is like saying: Men only go for young hot blondes and only care about womans looks and cheats on his partner when they find a younger, better looking woman, which i hope is not true. "Also, remember women can just ask a random man on the street for sex" Thats also not true at all. In my country, many man would be creeped out by this question and would think the girl is either a pervert or a robber.
I love this podcast 🥲
Thank you! 😊
Thank you. It was very interesting to listen to a specialist on the matter.
Thank you - it's an expansive view on relationship in Italy whilst clarifing related questions, observations and experiences on my time there.
Hope you won’t judge relationships in Italy on an interview as much as professional it is

I mean, it's a lesbian talking about heterosexual men.
Hell, even in "communist" Tuscany we still have plenty of gender-related double standards...

Why she doesn't mention the neoliberal culture around the world and its implications? ????
