As for your headlights, you can upgrade to a higher grade sealed beam, factory replacement, looks and functions as stock, but the best upgrade is to use a headlight relay setup, I did that on my 77 and it was a significant change with just the factory headlights. Good lighting is a must for any vehicle
Your youth comes through in your needs list. 😉 I never even thought of any of those things 30 years ago in my first square body. I still daily a 1986 C20 custom deluxe burb. 350, stick shift, 3/4 ton, with 33” tires on stock suspension. It has none of those items except tint. That’s to keep prying eyes out. I like simple though. My needs are less than most folks. I’ve driven that truck over 25,000 miles in the last two years. Thousands of those on dirt. It’s been to about half the states of our country, camping off road all over. They are great rigs. Tough, and reliable. Keep it up with videos. 🤙 You tube is a slow tough game.
It’s always recommended to use neutral when shifting into 4x4, i think its just a problem in park if youre on a hill. Mine has directions above the sun visor on how to engage 4x4 not sure if they all do, mine was a old military k30
Back in my day we didn't have cupholders because you never put down your beer. If you emptied it it went out the window and you had a hand free for the next one.
weird. my 5 things a squarebody must have are-- #1-- a 454 swap. #2-- 3/4 or 1 ton front and rear axles swap. #3-- bang screech shift kit if auto, good shifter if manual. #4-- ladder bars on rear to eliminate wheelhop #5-- dual shocks or more up front
@@dominickscala2599 mines alright, new weatherstripping will really help (especially the lil triangle wind wing) as will careful fitting of body/door gaps etc.... or just run that 454 unmuffled, then you cant hear ANY wind noise!
Grateful mine came with a/c, and I'm with you on the cup holder. Mine sits on the seat with arm rest/storage and two cup holders, Love it. $30 at auto parts store.
My first 5 needed items On my $1000 84 custom Rust bucket... New battery, clean out one gas tank. Install new ish fuel pump and filter Take carb off.. Take top off carb Wash bottom out with about a gallon of gas. Finally fired up the almost new, 383 stroker, 12 years sitting... At the bottom of the property.. Almost reclaimed by the pond and brush! Quart of tranny fluid in the engine oil, free up then lazy lifters. Just enough air in the tires to make it out of the canyon... After 2 days of hard work... We got our payoff... Before us was a mostly grown over skidder trail, spring time, pretty wet. The first day we got a ride down from the owners son. Good ol boy Rocking 37s It was an easy half mile down to the pond. Left a hell of a rut when he left. Barely made it. The next day... 20 psi in the 33 in bf Goodrich 20 year old tires.. SBC Warmed up. Hubs locked in.. 20 yrs old , my first truck. Dad on the passenger side. At first I was like Maybe you should drive us up the hill. I don't know if I can even get this rust bucket up the hill. Dad just give me a grim smile. You found the truck. You drive it out of here. Hit it halfway hard. Do what I tell you. This pile will make it to the top. I am done walking.🤠😎
No cup holders, no stereos was common because these were work trucks on the ranch and cruising into town to get some hay bales. Only later on did you get more convenience items. A/C too. It was an extra or not even an option. I think they are good things to add. Shoulder belts, also. In the 70’s it was lap belts only on these. 4x4 is nice but it’s more maintenance, more weight, worse economy and more to go wrong. In snow and mud it’s a must have. If not, all terrain tires and a LSD rear differential work good for 95% of the situations you’ll get in. On my Land Rover I took the LED bar off and put two LED spot lamps on the front bumper. Worked great and had a classic look. Good video and a nice rig, brother!
So I just want you to know I bought an 80 square body six tears ago did off frame restoration. Two of the modifications I did recently after my restoration. Cross over steering, and change out bench seat to a set of 2024 Tahoe front seats and center console. Not only did the center console hav e storage space but has cup holders also I connected power to the seats and I have adjustable seats and lumbar support. Note if I ever want to sell my beast, I do have the original bench seat and steering. But as far as comfort and drivability these were the best additions. Restoration included AC, tint and sound system (that I can enjoy).
Intreating man, what would you recommend cash ammount to restore one of these beauts, including buying one id say starting 7-12 g just buying the car(no restored)
Nice truck Bro. I have a 73 K10 4 speed 465 and 205 transfer. 6 inch lift with 35 inch tires. THE NUMBER 1 thing to do first on all these trucks is crossover steering. My entire front end is new, also welded in frame reinforcement for new steering box, Borgesen steering shaft and a frame brace from Off Road Design. My truck never came with AC and I took the radio out I just listen to the exhaust. Duals with 2 Super 10s dropped 4 feet behind the cab. Good luck man, again very nice truck!!
Nice truck and great video. Thanks for sharing. I have an '86 Custom Deluxe. Just put in Vintage Air right in time for winter here in North Texas. Next year will be much nicer. They make cup holders that secure to the seat and match your upholstery. Those are cool also.
Enjoyed your video. One thing that got in my craw... You said head lights sucked on it... Then I remembered mine are wired so all four stay on when on high beam..... Mine are amazing! Now you need and old school roll bar with some KC lights! Look up 80s trucks.... I'm 56 I grew up seeing them.... I've got an 81 stepside now with an amazing build sheet.... Good luck with that sexy ass truck.
Should’ve went with the retro Bluetooth radio for it off Amazon or LMC truck. I know they are pricey but look clean… I just kept the factory radio in my 83 k10 and bought a Bluetooth cassette to link to my phone and added 2 10” subs.. But you still have a clean square man!
I wish I could have, but the previous owner already installed a single din radio like the one I have and cut the dash in order to make it fit, so the hole wouldn’t been too big to mount the retro radio
You should look into the Philips brand headlights. I got them on my 85 k10. They have the original glass look and a single led at the top so it doesn’t look like those cheap 20 led headlights that everyone is running. They are pretty bright as well.
Nothing pisses me off more then some jackass with his bar light in my eyes. If you want good lights just know this. After going through the wiring harness your headlights lose voltage and your headlights get about 9 volts. For about 30 bucks you can get a direct to battery harness, and it's a ten min. install. Your old headlights will receive over 13 volts and look like led lights. I would buy a gun too if I was running a bar light, lol. You are going to make a lot of folks mad. btw, nice truck, nice video. These trucks have multiple ground points. Go through the truck and clean them all. Life will be better, lol.
Clean the lines out in your ac with at least 3 cans of cleaner after checking for leaks before adding freon to ac very important to clean out the lines thoroughly trust me
Change your tranny fluid on next oil change if you plan on using 4wd id recommend hotshotz transmission fluid its great for racing & off roading as it's very resilient to heat amongst other reasons
Hey brother what do you have for a sound system? I got a 10in kicker sub and 2 6x9s looking to get 2 tweeters for the doors and another another sub it’s been a pain tryna get a good setup with what little room we got behind the seat in these old trucks😂
What size wheels do you have and is your truck lifted? I’m looking at wheels for my 87 k10 and I’m trying to find something that would fit and look like yours without having to lift it if that’s possible
That’s a beautiful truck dude…. But the fact that you purchased and owned this vehicle long enough to get the windows tinted… and wasn’t sure if the 4 wheel drive worked or not deeply saddens me. There are much more important things you need on that truck. I’ll give you the AC since you’re from the south.
Just appreciate that you don’t have deep dish wheels wrapped with those dumb*ss rubber band tires. Even keeping the original aesthetic by hiding the light bar. Respect 🤌🏼
So funny when young guys say these headlights “suck” I’ve got 2 squares with stock headlights and I can see perfectly fine. I think the younger generation just can’t see at night or something because they all think they need 600 fucking LED lights just to drive at night, and blind oncoming traffic. These stock headlights don’t suck at all. They’re actually plenty bright. If you can’t see with them, something I’d wrong or you probably shouldn’t be driving at all.
@@socal_c10naw...the only time halogens are not bright enough is when you have a moron with arc-bright headlight coming at you. Not like anybody is cruising these trucks at 100mph
@socal_c10 Those ultra bright led's make it so oncoming drivers literally can't see. I've nearly driven into drivers with those. Many of these got 4 lights, dimmer or not they ain't *that* dim.
For cup holders in an old truck I always used a roll of duct tape on the seat. Works perfect for a beer… I mean soda can Nice truck though 🍻🇺🇸
Lol same here
I definitely need cup holders in my squarebody.... but is that more important than a running motor? i think so

Sweet truck. Back in the old days, they sold cup holders that had slots that fitted up against the window glass and hung down the door.
