Almost never do I ever break down & cry over a song, but this is an exception. As someone of German ancestry, this song always brings me back to the land where I come from (yeah, I know it’s set in Austria, but the flower also grows in Bavaria).
Me too! My family was from Weimer (Sp?). My grandmother went there to find genealogy, but it had been destroyed in the war….still adore the song. I guess she meant the record had been destroyed? Anyway, the place is still there. Time for me to do some digging! The internet amazes…Lord I’m old. Lol
Oh, my! What a nice performance! My junior high choirs performed the Sound of Music songs spring of 1966. My high school choir traveled in Germany and Austria during the summer of 1969. The Sound Of Music movie was playing at our local theater when we came back home. I have special affection for those songs. Never stop singing!
