Do Oil Filter Silencers even work?

There's just something about the government knowing I have a silencer that bothers me
Exactly
How else could they tax you and future ownsers of the thing then?
Lets just say it: ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!
I don't like them knowing i even exist.
The Government: YOU WILL NOT BE SILENCED!
OP: Daaaw thanks.
And the fact it’s ILLEGAL unless you pay them which is extortion.
Hell, I've made a suppressor out of a corncob for a Marlin 22 rifle years ago! All you could hear was the bolt working back and forth! Took about 15 rounds to shoot out before needing another cob!😊 But it sure worked. Cheap also!
I'll treat suppressor registration with the same urgency as a folding brace.
Building And Owning An Unregistered NFA Item Is Only "Illegal" IF You Get Caught And In THE EYES Of The Treasonous Government.
I mean yes
We don't talk about Bruno
Haha
i know it’s a year later but why did you capitalize this like it’s a movie title
The CRS Firearms case unfortunately shows that the tyrants will target you if they feel like it, even if you don't do anything "wrong"
Funny how I got an oil and air filter advertisement after watching this video 😂
Perfect
Big brother is always watching and listening.
@daviddeck6109 yup
Used to be LOTS of "oil filter" and "fuel filters" for sale on FB. Guess FB got tired of people complaining about ATF entrapment attempts.
They should sell these as "Hearing Protectors" . That should get rid of the "Gov.Tax"
👍
Yeeeeeeeeeeees!!!!!!
We have to sue them first to get rid of it but I feel it's not to far off from happening.
Having the production devices “regulated” to discourage the use of silencers seems silly. The reduction of damaging noise to nearby people is a Good Thing.
Yup

The reason why we are supposed to bow to the crown is people like you keep doing it
Exactly !!! I make my own and did not bother informing the crown.
The self snitching epidemic is out of control. I hope you don’t own dogs.
The reason we have laws and and law enforcement is the people who refuse to grow up, live in an organized society, and obey the laws. If you don't like the laws, work to get them changed. It is not fast or easy, but we have a system where it does work.
@@BryanTorok the system is broken. It has become about revenue generating and subjugation.
@@ArmyVet98958 I agree the system is not perfect. But, it does work. In 1999 a friend approached me about starting a group to change the gun laws in Ohio. In a little over 20 years we went from CCW being completely illegal to having a license law and now to having permitless carry. Politics socks and is often corrupt, but it's the best system we have.
Here in Texas you can make em without concern of law enforcement. Gov. Abbott made it legal, along with long knives and brass knuckles.🤠👍💯
Yes, because I just saw a video where a WIX oil filter was used very well as a suppressor.
Yeah, I'm gonna pay the govt for an oil filter and give them all my personal info. NOT.
They already have your info

@@Devin7Eleven And yours....
You can get a smaller can. Just get on google and put in the size oil filter you want. They do make 1 1/2 -2 inches by 6 inch oil filter that are a lil slimmer. And they do make oul filter with metal innthem instead of the card board studf coated stuff or whatever the normal stuff is.
If it works it ain't stupid
fire up the lathe, do some minor turning, go to the auto parts store, buy yourself an oil filter....just a thought. I would never do anything like that on my lathe🙂
Lol
You know there are multiple adapters available, right?
@@MoSportsUSA cheaper to make my own adapters, whatever size I need😉
@@larrydriemel6242 especially if there's a $200 "F you" tax on there..
Yup, just make your own. Not a crime if you don't sell them or travel across state lines with it. Even then what are the chances of a COP knowing what it is? COPS are monkeys.
High rise scope mounts
Being that I am a commercial driver at an auto parts store, the hunt is on for the skinniest filter I can find in an attempt to solve the issue of sights being obscured.
Let me know if you find anything. I’ve been looking as well.
Guy in last comment said corncob
I don’t think it’d obstruct a red dot on a riser.
You can order 1 1/2 to 2 inch by 6 inch online. Just put in them denominations that you want even the thread and pitch you want.

Totally agree-always follow the law! 👍

I swear this video gets the dumbest comments
In many countries with laws that make owning or bearing a firearm very difficult, owning a suppressor/silencer for your firearms is easy and, in fact, encouraged by the government. This is true in the UK, where using a silencer is just deemed polite and considerate.
NEWS FLASH, THERE IS NO SUCH THING, AS A SILENCER? THERE ARE SUPPRESSORS, BUT NO SILENCERS. TO MAKE THE SUPPRESSOR TO QUIT THE SOUNDS YOU MUST ALSO USE AMMO THAT IS SLOWER THAN THE SPEED OF SOUND? @brucesweatman2146 you are a know nothing. You are not smart. You are showing what an ignorant turd you are. The person who invented it, called it a silencer, and the original patent is for a silencer. Take this knowledge and correct yourself so you don’t look like a fool somewhere else.

GREAT VIDEO
Thank you!
Super i have oilfilter and vz58, what next
Keep hearing about a solvent trap. Any thing about that?
The quiet part of the oil filter will be good for a short period, due to the gasses ripping the filter material from each shot fired, but yes all I could hear was the action from the gun, click, click . a nice muffler for your gun , the great thing is, there is no reason to have hearing protection as you don't need it, but our beloved government frowns on any furniture you may add to your gun, so if we make cars quiet, why not guns , would make sense.
The other part is being taxed for something you already paid a tax on, sounds illegal as hell as that was one of the reasons for the American revolution, no double taxation, and we had the Boston tea party over a 2 cent tax.
How sad as we have forgotten the founding principles of this nation, to stop government abuse of power, and here we are today , having to fight for a right we all have just for being natural citizens of this nation.
The folks in government forget once you have taken everything we stand to lose and have nothing else to lose, the shit hits the fan , and all bet are off.

Short answer yes.. way better then a ( milspec ) suppressor... But over all bulky and depending on what filter you get you may not be as accurate or be able to See past it!
Does a filter silence a 223?
There are a lots oil filter in market, which one is usefull for 9mm gun? 3/4”-16? 7/8”-14? Bla bla… ? I could not understand system

Do you think I won’t just review a potato?
@@WeLikeShootingno balls
How will they really tell the difference between you or the company putting the number on the filter with a sharpie?
The only positive might be the price, but why would you use it if it is hard to see around. That’s the biggest drawback to me
Yeah it was pretty rough. Shooting with both eyes open will create an overlay and help see past it but using magnified optics kind of takes that away
There are plenty of slender filters out there, that will not interfere with the sights.
The whole oil filter silencer was made popular because it’s a homemade silencer it’s not a fancy military one.. so people who needed to silence their shots but couldn’t have real silencers would use these instead. It’s not meant to be fired from too far away it’s meant for close distance shots where you don’t need to aim so much.
net wrap in a water bottle works fine
Works better if you leave the car attached.
Lol
Ha ha ha lmao unless it was made in China
Yes rhey work very well
So I noticed you're using a Generous Motors AC filter. What kind of GM AC filter is that PF ?
PF932 - I managed to pause the video and read the side of the filter in one of the shots.
Do you have to cover the return holes in the bottom of the filter.??
I would it would work a lot better
We shouldn't need to file anything to own a silencer period. The government should just piss off. It's ridiculous that anyone needs to register their silencer (even an oil filter) to make their gun quieter.
Its work in sniper rifles.???
Sneeze Mr government man may I pretty please have an oil filter
Once again, like in most things, people with land - property, with space & privacy - WIN. If one were inclined to make a silencer of their own, be it a cheap PVC & steel wool type or a solvent trap or oil filter device, if you're shooting the gun in your own barn, for example, and a generic security system prevents people from accessing your property without your knowledge beforehand, why would they worry? It actually goes both ways. The suppressor doesn't leave the person's property, authorities can't access the property without a warrant, so hear no evil, see no evil?
What about a person who has an airgun & a house with a makeshift range, and decided to build their own suppressor, to innovate? The suppressor never leaves the basement. Who's the victim?
If the entire EU allows & even recommends suppressors and they're some of the best societies on the planet, why is the gov't of either USA, of all places, so intent on regulating them? I'm not talking liberal vs conservative nonsense, I'm talking logically. Why are private citizens restricted in what they do with their guns' decibel levels? In Canada, it's illegal for anyone to even try to suppress any airgun, even the ones getting < 500fps. Every request for reasons, to the gov't from hunting & shooting orgs, is a patronizing "no".
Is it poaching they're worried about? Is it discrete pistols hampering police work? Why not allow them only on a range, where a range officer can store it & you check it out for ONLY your session? I'm getting a hunting rifle soon (eastern Canada) and I want at least a 30-06, but maybe a 6.5PRC or 7mm. Most ranges near me restrict their rifle range to .308 and under. Why is it that shooters are trying to simply be good neighbors & putting cans on their higher caliber rifles? How am I supposed to even get good at shooting, let alone zero my scope, if I have to drive 2hrs to the worst range on earth with crap hours? The condescending NO we get every time we offer compromise is infuriating. This is why I respect & admire people finding innovative, discrete ways to make their guns quieter - again, in private, who cares what people do, as long as they aren't hurting anyone?
What is the smaller suppressor in the video I couldn’t catch the name
Bitty
@@WeLikeShooting thanks
If a weapon was built with an adapter permanently installed surly that would negate the need for it to be serialized. Like one doesn't need to serialize a bayonet lug for a bayonet longer than the legal limit. (then again bayonets are a state thing)
Don't suppressor reviews measure the dB sound reduction?
Go buy the equipment and do one then
Ok so buy a can, drill a hole and 3d print and adapter
Can someone clarify this for me: If I have a used oil filter from my truck, a water bottle/empty soda can or WHATEVER.......and I manage to make it hold on the end of my barrel, I have to fill out forms and pay $200 tax stamps to ATF or something?
Yes
So it Works Fun 😊
Did you just shoot it thru the end of the filter the first time?
The manufacturer does
Steven Seagal uses a soda bottle and tape, wonder if he had to pay for a stamp too. 😅
And he immigrated to Russia
Lol they aren’t for people who are going to pay a tax stamp and register it
works for me and my friend.
Yes do not own an oil filter without asking your gov!
👍 Always follow the law!
Ik nobody is sending the filters back with 25 every 300 rounds they are just using a dif one throwing it away and puting the serialized one back on it as a place holder nvr actually shooting through it.
🤷♂️😀
Oil filter cans are a SHTF item. Not worth the drawbacks (especially in 5.56) and you are better off having dedicated cans that are properly engineered or designed for that purpose.
Agreed they kinda suck
what is your .22 lr rifle on the video ?
Its a 10/22 that I put together
Old skool way, put a Potato on the barrel.
Lol that will blow your shit up
I can’t just slap a new oil filter on there? Wtf is even the point
Or you can just buy a thread adapter (or make one) and tell the government to piss off.
You first
You know the part number for that adopter??
The only way any suppressor will work is if you use sub sonic rounds!
Lol no
@@WeLikeShooting guy I know this from personal experience with a 22! The super sonic rounds still crack like nothing is there subs sound like just the bolt action!
There it’s a difference between “not working” and “reduced effectiveness”. Suppressors “work” regardless just at different efficacy. And I have 40+ silencers, so I know from personal experience as well.

Tax stamps. Reason for the Boston tea party… remember that

Under the US Constitution there are no permits or crazy regulations, so, in NH we do not need any permit or registration to conceal carry and there are no restrictions to were you can go.

Use a smaller diameter oil filter like the ones used for motorcycles and then you can see your gun sights. Easy solution 🤪.
What a RIP OFF ! Make your own.
It always baffled me why you need to do the expensive paperwork JUST to let the government know you have a silencer?!? Are you going to invite the ATF to be present when you "need" to use it? Just make it, use it, meet your goal, hide it or throw it away. Which is (the 'throw it away') what makes the oil filters so appealing. Btw, the filter material will start deteriorate after extensive use but it will not be blown back in the chamber, why these m.o.r.o.n.s always say that (as a scare tactic maybe) I have no clue. True, it works best with the small calibers, i.e. a 22LR subsonic is for practical purposes inaudible, all you hear is the rifle mechanism cycling. Just inspect the filter's insides every so often. Come on, that's a no brainer, did not need a YT video for all this.
👍 ok hotshot
You don't hate the ATF enough. You think you do, but you don't. Like so much of government, they gave us a solution in search of a problem. They could do something marginally less asinine. They serialize the adapter, and make the modified oil filters a consumable, non-tracked item. Why TF not? But if we start going down that dangerous road, we might start to think: why TF do we need any of this? What good does any of this BS do, besides $200 stamps?
