⚡ QOTD: What kind of lighting do you currently use? Do you have a budgeting lighting recommendation? LMK! 👇👇👇 🔴 CORRECTION: At 1:30 I say the Neewer 176 Lights (the new version) are not cheaper than the old version. That is incorrect, at the time of shooting this video the new lights ARE CHEAPER that the older Neewer 160's (and better in my opinion as well).
I have the 160 and it comes in VERY handy as I shoot at nightclubs which sometimes are not lit very well. I always get compliments on it and people think it's really expensive. It *is* however super bulky and takes up a lot of room in my bag, so I sometimes don't bring it along. So I think I will order the new one and also, of course, the battery packs. Other than the bulk the 160 is fine and the same batteries have lasted me forever. I think I might have rechargable batteries in there - haven't had to check in over a year...
SOFTBOX FOR 176: Hey Sean, thanks for another great video. I bought the 176 with soft box and charger at your recommendation and I'm very happy with the light. Just a note for your viewers, the softbox is made for the square edges of the 160. The 176 has rounded edges and so the softbox falls off. This can be easily remedied by adding some velcro to the sides which makes for a snug fit. Again, thanks for video and all your support of indie filmmakers.
what i love about your channel is the honest budget tips to help get that professional quality shot without spending thousands. thank you. i just clicked that notification button !
Thanks for the video. I wish you would just do a "THIS IS ME WITH LIGHT A... THIS IS ME WITH LIGHT B... " etc. To me that's way more useful than a 12 minute video talking about things we can't even see.
I've recently started using umbrella lighting that I'm borrowing from a photographer friend, they were about $30 on amazon, but makes a BIG difference since using them!
Depends on what and where i am filming, but usually either a 27 LED Portable Worklight/Flashlight, a Rechargeable 200 Lumen LED Work Light with Magnetic Base, or just standard led interior bulb when i do my webcam reviews. I love how much research you put into your reviews. It is a lot easier to take advice and believe a review when it is well thought out, has pros and cons of both items, and is given in a genuinely honest review on not just what you've read about them but how they have worked for you. Keep it up!
Hi Sean! It was only a couple weeks ago (at the beginning of the new year) that I started watching your videos, trying to familiarize myself with lighting, microphones, etc. for TH-cam videos that I would like to shoot at some point. I am technologically illiterate so watching your videos has made me really grasp on what it takes to prepare in making your own video content (and the equipment to go with it). Two weeks later, I am happy to say that I know more about lighting, microphones, etc. than I did previously thanks to you and your videos. I look forward to watching more of your videos in the time ahead as I would like to get my channel up and running eventually. Thanks Sean! :)
The latest version of the VILTROX L116T I ordered from Amazon comes with a battery and charger. The latest version has a speedier dial and a newer LED system. I get about 2 hours of light on time with a single charge at about 75% light intensity. I paid $38 for the bundle. My videos came out impressively better than ever after having shot without a light. I got this suggestion from another TH-camr. The ones mentioned here are good too but I just wanted to chime in and say I'm really happy about the Viltrox.
The main issue I found with the CN160 light and similar ones is that the original batteries run out very quickly. If you're on a shoot over 20 minutes you have to remember to change batteries or the lighting progressively worsens during filming, which sucks. The plugin versions are better if you aren't mounting directly into the camera
Hey Sean, thanks for this video! I needed a better lighting solution without breaking the bank, and for Christmas my present to myself was the 176 Light, Wall Plug, Light Stand and Soft Box, all purchased through your affiliate links. I just upped my game big time so I can go "further, faster". Thank you!
Thanks Sean for all your videos. I have been watching your videos and taking your advice for my youtube videos and your tips has helped me grow my channel since the past year.
got the CN 160 light kits with extra batt and wall adapter. i got also a diffuser (soft box). The Neewer 5.9x6.7 inches/15x17 centimeters Camera Collapsible Diffuser Mini Softbox for CN-160, CN-126 and CN-216 LED Light. super kit.
Love the videos, Think Media! I use a Indoor garage shop light, wax paper, old tripod and dimmer switch. Way ghetto but my videos are shot in the wood shop with a cell phone. Until yesterday when I received my new 80 D Cannon. Your video has shed a lot of light on what I can do to create better lighting. Thank you, and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
before buying some gear I check usually always your channel if you have done some reviews about it. I suppose this is a really good sign about how much I appreciate your channel :) Thanks!
I love all your videos! I am a small youtube channel trying to upgrade and create better content. I have been watching several of your videos getting ideas. Thank you so much!
Im currently using this one on my Canon T6s and the Neewer 160 tripod kit for other lights. I believe there is 122 LEDs hence the model number but its almost twice as bright as the Neewer 160. SUPON LED-L122T RA CRI95 Super Slim LED Light Panel,3300K-5600K LED Video Light Panel , LCD display screen,Color temperature and Brightness can be adjusted (LED-L122)
First watch of your content. I have been looking for ages (procrastinating) for some home studio lighting which I could also take out and ordered a pair of these based on your review for fill and back lights. Keeping it brand loyal, in the expectation of color matching I also ordered a Neewer 660. I'm not in the states or I would have used your affiliate links. Big thanks for helping a lighting noob on his way!
Hi Sean Stan Hamilton here from Australia. As a newbee to camera lighting never having used or owned camera lighting before, i found this video interesting, informative and exciting. I like how you explain everything in detal so we the consumer can make an informed decision to purchase or not. Im loving the "Neewer 176, looks like a good place for me to start. Thanks Sean for your help. Loved this video.
I love the demonstration, this seems like it is the ideal light that won't break the bank and will also help increase lighting in dark areas. Perfect for car meet videos.
Going to amazon now.... I really feel like my lighting is one thing holding back my videos so much but didn't want to spend hundred's. Thank you for this great video!
I watched this months ago. Been using CFL lighting for years but had 2 105W bulbs fail in a row I came back to make sure this is what I wanted and followed your link to Amazon Appreciate the advice.
We just picked up the new Neewer and plug, its great, thanks for the help. I'm glad we got the plug, I must not have been paying attention to your video and didn't realize it didn't come with a battery. Watching the video again, I realize you said that. :P
Thanks for this review! We just launched my son's channel and needed budget equipment for starting out. Grabbed 2 of the ESDDI 176 and they are awesome for us just starting out. We'll probably upgrade to Neewer products as the channel grows.
I’m looking for lighting on my TH-cam videos. This definitely helped because it is a lot more affordable since I’m just starting out my channel. Thanks Sean!
Sean! Thank you SO MUCH for making this!!! I have been waiting for someone to do an affordable lighting video!!!!! I will definitely be buying the new light that you showed for around $20. Yay lighting!
Another outstanding informative video!! I have been looking for a good yet inexpensive light that is easily transportable as I do "remote" shoots. Your videos are always on target and NEVER a waste of time! Keep up the great work!
I use a Powerpak 160 LED light for my videos. Paired with a 9V power cable (I got it for about $3 at a local store), it gives me sufficient light for my videos. Definitely need to get a hair light for my shoots, especially since I use a lot of green screen. Will check out the Neewer 176 LED. Thanks Sean for the great content as always.
I have 2 or the 160's and love them. After watching your video, I may upgrade to the 176 for on-camera and use the other two as studio lights. Thanks! As usual, great video.
Just wanted to thank you for your great tips, thanks to you I have invested in a nice Canon 80D and a sweet SL2 for overhead shots, and also some cool lenses that you have reviewed. Thank you for these great educational video's. Can't go a day without watching some cool tips that are on your channel. My setup is simple but it works for now. Thanks again 👍
Thanks for this review! I just created my channel 4 months ago and this was super helpful. I just ordered the kit for the new version through your link and subscribed to your channel. :)
I got myself the old neewer light like half a year ago and have to use it on the top of my camera backwards on full brightness to the corner of my room so my white wall reflects the light very diffused. the reason is that im wearing big glasses and direct light is very harsh and makes look both glasses very green, if i light my face from the side the frame is throwing big shadows on my face so this is the only way i can use this light, still setting up my lightning is the hardest part in my setup. but thats just some glass-wearers problems, the light itself is awesome for that price, if i just imagine the new one is also better it sounds hilarious. Just like you i also bought the two batteries so i dont have to buy AAA's every time, which might be more expensive in the end if you use the light often and also worse for our environment:) have a great day sean, also sorry if there are some language mistakes, just a crazy german in his last schoolyear over here ;P
I have a kit of 3 Neewer CN-216 and their 18” ring light. Love their products! If you’re going to buy their lights though, invest in the adapters for them that plug into the wall so you don’t need to worry about batter power :) As usual, great video Sean!
Hi Sean - thanks for the information. I shot a night video a few days ago, and these seem perfect for what I'm doing outside in the dark...by myself!! ;-) The outside Christmas shoot was a perfect example of the utility of these lights. And the new ones are indeed less expensive than the older version. I also like that the lights are around the 5000K temperature and come with a diffuser. All the best, Cheers Rick God Bless
Great review. I purchased the 176 LED and the mini-softbox. It works great. However, because the 176 is much thinner, getting the softbox on correctly is a bit cumbersome. Thanks again for the great info.

when you get at amazon as a KIT, its showing for DSLR , where if not in kit, is saying for all same brands it works on. thought i mention that. so that part can get confusing to someone new to all this. If not on camera itself, then would not matter. Kits best buy cause it has everything in it as far as battery, charger and such.
Thanks a lot Sean. Habe discovered your Channel and your Tipps and Knowledge about Tech for vlogging and more is incredible informativ stuff. You‘ve got a new subscriber for sure and you earn a million more aubscribers in my opinion! Best regards Teddy
Thanks for this video. I currently use three soft box lights. I think I got sucked into three point lighting so much that using three soft box lights in a small space hasn't been ideal. The other thing I noticed is that the lights that came with the soft boxes is very white in coloring. So I only look normal if I use them in a space that has some outside lighting to add more of a yellow and from a distance. I was thinking about trying to just switch out some of the bulbs with some warmer light bulbs until I figured out what was better. I mean in some of my videos I come out extremely white even if I originally had them turned down low, so that led me to believe it is the color of the light as well. If switching out my lights doesn't work I am going to check these out or a ring light!
Aimee Montgomery you could always use the amber filter it comes with to warm it up. Three point lighting is tricky in smallish spaces..I have same problem. I like using two soft boxes and the led. I place the softboxes further away like its a window while blocking out any natural light.
Just wanna say u deserve more subs though I have been here from u were 100k .... ur videos have been helping me ever since n not only with TH-cam life but photography in general .... thnx Sean keep the content coming !!!!!✌🙄😁
Awesome grapes! I just found a used Ikan Onyx light for $60 shipped, found out about them here Thanks massive! I'm gonna get a couple other lights too, the one from this video and a New 660 from another one of your great videos. Thanks thanks and thanks!

Nice - smart!

Incredible review! We are needing something more versatile, so the Neewer 176 will be the way to go. Thank you again for another great video Sean!

I've only watched two of your videos and I really like your charisma. Subbed for that lol.
Great video! Timely, useful and clear. I'm looking at upping the quality of my videos and budget lighting is my only option!
Great review. I purchased the 176 LED and the mini-softbox. It works great. However, because the 176 is much thinner, getting the softbox on correctly is a bit cumbersome. Thanks again for the great info.

nice - checking it out!
Good tip Andy! This kit is great from Limo... amzn.to/2kAFIBn ... It's the same light just branded and packaged by Limo. Great deal with a case and battery included.
Very informative..
Can I use this light on my Sony a7 or do I need adapter..?
Thanks
Very thorough comparisons. Just when I was thinking that you need to show use in real life to make it make more sense. Still, showing before and after on some of the promoted products sell more than just your words alone. Remember the old saying, "pictures are worth a thousand words."

If not on camera itself, then would not matter. Kits best buy cause it has everything in it as far as battery, charger and such.
Your videos are all very helpful. Thank you.
Awesome light!!! Purchased this for my videos and now my videos look amazing!
hey thanks for all the great info on lighting ROCK ON!!!
I have been needing cheap lighting thnks for the vid

This guy is literally the best on youtube
I have the Neewer CN-216, that was a 35 USD.. That is like a super nova
Again another valuable video. keep your nice work. thanx.
Like always, you deliver. Thank you so much 😊. Keep crushing it 👌🏾
Just wanna say u deserve more subs though I have been here from u were 100k .... ur videos have been helping me ever since n not only with TH-cam life but photography in general .... thnx Sean keep the content coming !!!!!✌🙄😁

Great video as always. Trying to get some content off the ground, and you've been a great resource. Thanks for your help!
You are my fav global TH-camr Sean sir😊
