I've learned a lot from your channel. Quick question about the thumbnail for this video. Aren't you using too many elements & too much text? Isn't that what you normally teach people not to do? Or am I mistaking advice from another channel? What give?
7:59 PM EST. Grateful I found this video. I went to film school 30 years ago, and at 52, all I want to do is direct. Lighting is my biggest challenge, and I know I need a better mic. I’m taking your classes-thank you so much! I’ll be sharing your content if that’s cool.
I definitely appreciate videos like this 💯 I swear Think Media has helped me so much on my journey 🙏🏽 anybody reading this I just want you to know it gets greater later 😁 stay consistent & perfect your craft & your channel will truly grow 💯 nobody can be YOU better than YOU 🤞🏽
It's like you read my mind!! I've been trying to figure out what I want my TH-cam setup to look like, without a super high budget, and you just answered all of my questions!! Thank youuuuuu!!!
Suggestion for lighting @ 5:30. Noticed that your ceiling is white/light color, try bouncing your light source off the ceiling coz your present set-up is All light on your R & darker on your L. Or change your seated position & bounce your light off the bureau(?) mirror, evening out light/dark spots....
FINALLY Someone with CONCRETE advice and it couldnt have came at better moment. Thank you this is probably the best video i found by far especially when it comes to lighting setup.
@@ThinkMediaTV I always wanted to see the work process that is behind a solid video , we all see the final product but i dont think many people actually understand how much work goes behind it. I would absolutely LOVE to see how a video gets built from ground up from getting an idea over writing a script to filming and editing (With little quality of life tips sprinkled in). I think a one good video from you with concrete advices like in this one would make a lot of people stop procrastinating and actually dive into their own projects. I don't know if that type of video would be something you'd be willing to make but i appreciate you asking for a feedback.
In the video you talk about getting a good SD card. At time code 1:23 I am not sure if you mention the repeated use of the SD card. That is, you download the footage and then wipe to use for new footage. Is that something you recommend? Or should I simple have hundreds of SD cards with saved footage? I use SSD storage to save the footage I want to keep.
Yep! You can format your sd card to delete everything off it after you transfer to an external drive like an SSD. That’s actually the recommended way to do it and ensures you won’t get any corrupt files.
Great video! Maybe give us some more creative ideas for the background light besides the lamps. Like what are different ways they light the background in the movies?
Thanks, Nate! Hey, how quiet/noisy is the Amaran light? I"m recording music videos and need a quiet light. I was going to go with the Godox UL60 Silent light, but it's more expensive. Have you had an issues with noise using the Amaran light?
Hey! There is a bit of fan noise on the amaran 60ds! However it never is too big of an issue for talking head videos since I have the mic close. For your use the godox might be a better option!
Love the content and setup. Question: when you’re recording do you record the audio and video separately or do you do them both at once (OBS studio, etc.) ?
Super helpful, thanks for the info, any suggestions you have for outside photography? Say taking pictures of buildings when the weather is constantly changing? LOL!
Great video, I am really curious about the room setup. It seems like everyone sets it up so they sit in the middle of the room…that seems so unnatural to me, do you think it’s important to do that? If so, why? Most of the time, when people are sitting, they sit along the edges of a room, and I want to set up a studio room where I never have to move things around. Of course, if everything is in the middle of that room, it becomes a lot less useful as a room, so just debating whether it makes a difference… Anyway, thanks for the tips!
@@ThinkMediaTV Specifically, I like to look at camera settings, advice on buying lighting, which soft box, which bulbs to use. A little more involvement in tidying up the room and soundproofing the studio...
Thanks I’m struggling without a proper space to film and lighting so I’ve gone down the fake background route in my last video and plan on using it going forward u till the day I don’t have to
I've heard that condenser mics aren't ideal for untreated room. you suggested condenser mics but your room looks untreated. what do you have to say about that?
You’re right-condenser mics can be more challenging in untreated spaces. However, with the right setup, any mic can sound much better. For a budget-friendly setup like this, especially for talking-head videos, proper positioning and technique are key to getting good results, even in an untreated room. That said, you’ve made a great point-I’m still working on improving my space, and it’s a process. But it’s also important to acknowledge that not everyone has access to a perfectly treated room, so I aim to show what’s possible with what you have. Thanks for the feedback-it helps me improve and better address these details in future videos!
@ThinkMediaTV thank you for the reply. maybe you misunderstood me in the second half of your reply. the intention of my comment wasn't to point out that your room in acoustically untreated. i just wanted to know whether dynamic mics are good for such environments. also, i want to know your pick between rode podmic usb and shure mv7 plus for usb output mode. both offer similiar features. would love to know your take.
OK vodeo,, but that lighting setup only works if the room is large enough, and with enough space to separate the lit areas. (And also to have enough actual room for the softbox)
I got the DJI Omo pocket 3, and I don’t know if it’s good for filming sit down videos except vlogging. Please give me a review on the Sony vs DJI. Plus: I’d need to get the lenses too for the Sony, right?
The pocket camera is great for vlogging but wouldn't be the best choice for sit down videos. You could pick up the kit lens for the Sony if you are just starting!
It requires a bit more setup: you’ll need to ensure the transmitter and receiver are fully charged and powered on. In contrast, the rode mic is more convenient, as it doesn’t require charging or any additional setup.
In the past, this channel has been a good place for gear recommendations and setup. Hot damn. What a downgrade! Do you even know why your face and everything else has missing reds and an excess of grays? Can't you see that your blacks are clipping? I really recommend you watch the old videos on this channel to learn, AGAIN, how to set everything up. Everything that I know about this stuff, I've learned HERE on this channel. What is happening to this channel? Are the ignorant taking over? Damn! Do not downgrade your channel with this stuff.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts-I appreciate your honesty and passion for the channel. While this video may not be perfect, it’s designed specifically for beginners to get up and running quickly. I believe it teaches the fundamentals and helps solve key problems for those starting out, especially those on a tight budget, to achieve a solid look and sound. I agree that setups can always be improved, and I value your insights as I continue refining the content. Feedback like yours is a reminder of how high the bar has been set, and I’ll keep striving to meet those expectations. Thanks again for watching and for caring about the quality of the channel!
Good point! I like to point the softbox light at the ceiling so that way the light fills the whole room. You'll have to turn up the brightness on the light, but give it a shot and let me know how it works!
