- Whats up guys! Today, I'm teaching you how to rig a beautiful cinematic lighting setup $50 or less.
Lighting is SO IMPORTANT and its pretty easy to get great results FAST. This is how I quickly throw together a studio light setup for filming inside without natural light on a tight budget!

Watching videos from 2019 then coming back to the older ones really shows me how much you have grown! Your whole personality lights up a room and you seem so much more comfortable on camera now! I use pot lights ($8 at Walmart?) with some LED bulbs ($5 for a pack of 3?) and I literally made some softboxes out of cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, parchment paper, and matte black spray paint and they work like a charm. I've done a little product photography and it looks great.

My 4 kids (2-9yrs) want to start a TH-cam channel and of course this mama is somewhat clueless when it comes to filming and photography so trying to graps and learn as much as I can so we can get these kids started on this. Super-useful 'Lighting 101' tutorial, Peter. This should be required viewing for all beginning photographers and videographers! I studied lighting in college (many, many years ago) and the setup you advocate is exactly like the makeshift rig I used at home to produce my class assignments. It's a bit rough, but with time and practice some very impressive results can be achieved. Thanx again! 👏👍

It was really helpful getting to see the visual comparison between each light and how they, one by one, impacted the scene differently as you turned them all on! Would love to see a tutorial on how you made your intro (00:09-00:14). It's amazing how well you introduce your stuff with that 5 sec clip! A lot of people make them longer but I really like the short, precise, and informative look of yours.

I don't vlog but I'd imagine getting comfortable vlogging by yourself would be a good start.
Just do it and ignore what people think. It's not easy in the beginnig but you get over it

I just brought a light setup today and it's crazy how much difference it likes, I haven't even added diffusers or gels or anything so it's going to look even better when I'm finished but the difference is crazy already

Dope! I would cut the time buy building the box first then spray painting it black and adding the aluminum after its built , and also paint the PVC pipes black for a cleaner look , over all great job !
As a DIY guy that remodels stuff around the house I've been wanting to change out my dual head halogen lights on a work stand to LED ecause they are so hot. Now I have another excuse to do so because I can use the LEDs for household remodeling projects as well as making videos. So, the video may be a few years old but still providing value. Thanks Peter for creating and posting it.
Going to try this tomorrow with a dimmable led worklight, tripod, blue gel and throw a softbox on also.
Will try out some model photos and see how professional it looks.
May even become my go to location lighting when I'm hiking.

Very interesting take on lighting! I was about to purchase the ring light and then saw a video about the reflection of the ring in the eyes (true or not?!). Then, I thought about a soft box, but those are just massive for my small space - and they aren't something that can just be picked up and moved around! I remembered my husband was trying to put together some lighting for me a while back with some stands he created, so I thought, why not try those and see where we land?! I will try your adapting your ideas to what I have before purchasing something else. Thanks so much for your suggestions!! Brilliant!

Hi Peter. I was sent your way by my friends at Living Light RV. I already had a garage light so just had to pick up a couple of sheets of foam core ($1.50 each at the dollar store).
