    A few things. When you move the rear links into correct position arch them up so they clear the driveshaft. Second, lay the front upper links flat, like a wishbone. This will give you more more clearance as well as articulation. This first mod you should do is a Vader skid. Get the one for a Gen7. It also is drilled for a SCX10. This is important for later on. You will need to swap out the rod ends on the skid side with a Traxxas rod end. It’s part number TRA1942. A Element Stealth transmission will bolt into that same skid. That transmission has OD. 6 and 12% come with the transmission. Install the 12%. The tire work well it’s the foams that suck. Replace with a dual stage and you will be surprised at the performance. Look to the CVA axles for the Gen7 pro. This will get you better steering. Your truck should have the “high steer” kit install if this is a newer Gen7. You need to tear down the axle to put this kit in because there is a c clip inside the axle you need to remove. Don’t be quick to jump on the portal wagon. These big pumpkin trucks do well on the rocks. If you later decide to use the Redcat portal kit, skip the servo mounted in the chassis. The geometry is all goofy. Add a servo on axle mount from 1tenth RC. The truck will perform much better with the servo mounted this way.

      Man thank you so much for the info!! Im about to purchase the axles!! But I will hold off once I can get all this written down and search them. Thank you so much for the help 👍Very useful info

      Hey brother, I have got a question. If I do not have portal axles, will the 1tenth servo on axle mount work with my stock setup? Thanks, I have been trying to find a video or part but they all mention portal. Hope to hear from you soon! Also a link please!!

    • @billsrcadventures8806
      @billsrcadventures8806 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@arkansasrcnewbie Unfortunatley, the 1tenth is for the portals only. The stock SOA mount is really sturdy. The only thing you could upgrade is the “ears” (read what the servo bolts to) on it to metal. I use a lot of the Associated “ears” as they are inexpensive and made of metal. It’s part number ASC72010 ($9)

    Very cool you got a redcat gen 7 thats aweosme. There very capable rigs once tweaked and so on. I got a gen 8 and I absolutely love my gen 8. So stoked to see the build in the upcoming future.

    Gen7 is the perfect RTR rig. I currently have 2 of them (fully upgraded) and just purchased a 3rd one for 198.99 today!. I hope Redcat doesn’t discontinue it because it is a great model for people to get into the hobby.

    • @arkansasrcnewbie
      @arkansasrcnewbie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well i completely agree 👍 Thanks for the comment. Now since you know your stuff, I have a question if you don't mind? I recently have changed the link setup to how it is supposed to be (per manual) and now the tires rub the shocks when I turn?? Any clue how to fix? I did move the steering link 1 more spot down on the servo horn, but cannot seem to get any steering radius without doing so. I can move it back but I want turning... should I get the portals? Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    • @ti0chema
      @ti0chema ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arkansasrcnewbie I left the links as they came out the box, I did change the position but it didn’t make too much of a difference on articulation. I did swap the shock springs and oil to make them softer, tires also , I mounted the Injora’s super swampers because the stuck ones are too wide, they are good but too wide for what I wanted. Injora tires run narrower and give you more clearance for steering plus they are pretty good tires. I have portals on one of them only, getting rid of those massive pumpkins makes the truck a lot more capable. Hope you get lots of fun with your project!

      I'm loving life for a change. when my dog passed late last year, I needed a hobby. I started with a danchee, I still have it. I bought what I consider a crawler I can use when I can join a crawler club. Could of gotten a pro for $50 more, but I did a lot of research and I thought the sport was good enough. I started late in the sport at 65, didn't think I'd like it. Out here in NW AZ crawling is huge, even in my small town we have two groups. I want you to know these videos change people's lives for the better. I haven't been alone for 30 years, Already met two neighbors with crawlers and desert bash trucks. Just wondering if the Everest has steel differential internals gears. Thank you so much.

I would personally wait for a scx10ii kit to go on sale, a hobbywing 1080, Holmes hobbies 12 turn 550 can trail master sport motor, Amazon 35kg servo, and hunt for a new bright body at a yard sale. Good news for me. Took my sport to the shop, an axle was badly bent due to misuse. He disassembled the whole front differential, straightened the axle, and put a screw in the servo that holds the steering arm, the bolt fell out the first day. No more high speed donuts, and misuse this is not a basher. So happy, my fault not redcats at all. The internal gears are all metal in the sport differentials. I thought they would be plastic. Thanks.

    My first comp crawler was a Gen 8. I found many flaws trying to crawl it out of the box. But it looked amazing. I have never had the Gen 7, but I did look at them. Saw the Gen 7 pro drop to like $209. As far as a nice trail rig goes, I think you are absolutely on point. No better buy out there for just going out and hitting spots. In my opinion however, to make that truck competitive, I think you would be better off buying a basecamp or trx4 sport as a platform. I am really interested to see how you upgrade this Redcat over the course of a season though. You did the impossible with an RGT lol. I have a bunch of upgrades in mind right off top for that Redcat Gen 7, but first thing I would do is get a lower center of gravity body.

    Beginner crawler here, on your negative comments you can always remove receiver and add waterproofing? your second point can you "shave" a 1/4 off the bottom of the body? I was looking at this not for competition but just to have a crawler. I have a speed car and a monster truck and keep looking at getting one of these. Pricing right now is about 200 for my budget. oh yeah new sub as well.

    • @arkansasrcnewbie
      @arkansasrcnewbie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey brother! Thanks for the sub💪 You know you can waterproof I am sure, I have seen them ran underwater! Lol and you could shave the body yeah, but I have learned every little cut you make on a body, leads to more problems while crawling 🤣 things get cracked very fast with the weak points! Now please do look at seriously buying the redcat man, it's more of a basher but it will really get you out there and learning, plus parts availability is ridiculous

    f you don`t have space for a weatherproof radio box, you can surfacetreat the pcb`s or even use hot glue, just drown the components in hot glue, not as elegant, but effective, cheap and removable ;)
    PS, do at own risk, some components might not be soldered on very well and may be prone to tearing off the PCB, so yeah, but the weather proofing works pretty well imo :)
