    Just finished the game an hour ago, that final mission was an absolute ball-buster but it was so worth pushing through my frustration (and elevated heart rate) it was such a wonderful game, but I do appreciate the lore explanation because ngl I was stumped through most of it and figured it was because I was missions logs or something.

    The god and the demon, the paradise and the hell, the ascent and the descent. All the dualities are one in the same just represented differently is a heavy implication: None of it is good, none of it is bad, they all just serve the same purpose (or purposelessness). Insightful.

    • @VirtualResidence
      @VirtualResidence  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’m not sure what you mean exactly, but I think the cosmic horror comes from the small feeling and that you really do not understand the full nature of the megastructure. Its horrifying to think that their is just some unknown godlike entity controlling it.

    • @ragnarokcinder470
      @ragnarokcinder470 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @VirtualResidence This game manage to nail this horror aspect perfectly. Still so many questions that won't have answers. I didn't expect the game to be so religious focused though, but still the game manage to make you question the nature of the divine. What s marvelous piece

    • @VirtualResidence
      @VirtualResidence  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well realistically the Bible is kind of cosmic horror in an of itself, just remember.. men guide the masses what to think of the text but it’s pretty gnarly when you start looking at “biblically accurate depictions.” I.E. there is a type of angel named seraphins, the word means the burning ones, and fiery serpent.. so there is a whole race of angels that are flaming snakes that’s pretty freakin horrific in thought lol. Anyways I agree about this game being excellent in conveying cosmic horror and dread! The lore is so interesting!

    Just played the game and I personally feel its a bit flat and unrefined. Parts of it I feel like are toying with a meta narrative though, like how weird I thought it was that I never intervened or really could help others beyond my own narrow goals in the game, or how frustrating parts of the game were before being rewarded with a surprise (like with the ancient cistern and the finale). I hope the developers make another game like this and refine their ideas and gameplay. Its still not a game i'd recommend but its not without merit.

    • @georgemen
      @georgemen 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it's unfair to say it's not a game you'd recommend (though of course each is entitled to their opinion). Gameplay alone, is a recommendable game - doesn't add or remove anything more or less than it needs, no gimmicks, no quick time events - walk, run, crouch, jump and climb. And it manages to make a really interesting game with just sticks and stones. And I think the art style really fits the narrative and gameplay - would not see it as an ultra-realistic game. While I did not pay any attention to the story itself, at no point during the game did it not make me awe at the scale of my surroundings and make up my own headcanon as to why things are this way. To me, it's a refreshing game to get my hands on and i bought it as soon as i found out the full game was released (after having played the prologue when it got released)

  • @B4DDHero

    I figured that it was biblical, but I figure that the megastructure is purgatory, with the demon placed at the bottom set there to lure those driven and skilled enough to potentially escape that eternity.

    I'm not sure if you played with the latest patch that has explore mode, which completely reworks the final level and ending. I think it's worth playing because the reworked final level comes with unique lore bits.
    The new ending just has the protagonist succumb to the demon. I do think it's a little lame that the easier mode that is designed for the players who felt mislead by the steam page has the bad ending, but I'll set aside those feeling for now. The explains that it lures people to feed, and after that we are shown the protagonist jumping off a high place. So this seems to suggest that the purpose of the demon is simply to kill or punish. But I'm not really sure if I'm satisfied with that simplistic explanation and if there isn't something more to it that I'm missing.
    As someone who is not religious I'm not 100% sure about the biblical interpretation. But if there is one here I do believe that the game/dev isn't casting judgement on the protagonist for being lured. After all, along he journey he helps people. Leaving his home behind isn't really something that he is morally blameworthy for. He was just trying to learn.

    • @zillagramwiches
      @zillagramwiches 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @VirtualResidence yeah exactly, it is the building you scale after the church you pass through which incidentally has a religious symbol on top of the dome. Then the next building has a dome. You can see the tentacle as you continue so I went back down and got up there on my first playthrough. There is a very large stationary frozen monster and no dialogue or box to interact with with any info. He jus stares at you with his tentacle arms frozen mid flailing. I've climbed all around it to the surrounding structures and cant find anything either. It really creeped me out this morning going back there for some reason with the grapple hook haha. It is such a cool mysterious game. I absolutely love movement mechanics in a game combined with secret hunting and platforming. It is such a masterpiece I think.

    “The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas.” - Herman Hesse
    As someone who was in an A∴A∴ lineage and the Oriental Templars (you might see the relevance if you look up their symbol and a few other Orders till I left that stuff behind to go my own solo route I think its worth re-analyzing the game from a more Sethian Gnostic perspective. The Egg of Orpheus is also something you may enjoy looking into... as well as Choronzon and its associated Abyss... and the checkerboard... look up Masonic Lodge designs. I could say quite a bit more but its more fun leaving breadcrumbs.

    I kinda expected the superstructure to be explained at some point, but the idea of it remaining so enigmatic is better in my opinion. If I can give my opinion on what it is though? I think the structure is just the reality of this world. We are shown biomes throughout, and glimpses of what we as players percieve as the natural world. Because of these pockets of nature, one would assume there is a true world elsewhere, outside of the structure. But this does not need to be true. If these deities control and make the world, they don't need to have an outside. If the purpose of the two deities is either to subsume the obsevers, or lead them into the paradise of ignorance, why should there be another option? These two deities, or rather the two halves, serve as the only real purpose to have. Ascend or descend. There is no outside. And there never was.

    Kind of getting tired of otherwise interesting concepts in Eldritch horror just getting turned into metaphors either rebuking or embracing Christianity.
    I get that a lot of people grew up with it so there's a lot of trauma and a lot of people who still believe in it, but at a certain point It starts feeling like a "dream theory" kind of twist. Ignoring the moralizing of it all, it's just kind of bland.
    I get that every story can be drawn all the way back to be a metaphor for the Bible, but does it have to be the only story we tell?

    • @VirtualResidence
      @VirtualResidence  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be fair it’s my interpretation, based on my own experience and the evidence it displays. Personally I do not think that the stuff is overused, and many religious cultures have similar themes I just don’t have as much knowledge around them.
      One example though would be the Buddha leaving his palace because it wasn’t fulfilling to be happy or in a place of peace forever and he wanted to become enlightened while finding a deeper understanding of human suffering.
      That’s just my two cents though everyone can have their own view.

    I'm not even sure if Catholicism believes it entirely, some branches of Protestant do, but believe Satan was created as is to tempt mankind. That goes against what is actually written that Lucifer was a covering angle that became selfish and jealous of God, specifically Jesus and sowed discord to become God himself. The question ends up being why would God permit Lucifer to be made if he knew all things and the possibility he would go down that path. That's because all sentient things have free will and it's not love your receiving if you created essentially a robot. We humans always try to create something and it endures to us. We treat robots in this way, despite knowing it can't reciprocate real emotions back. The closest we have is children and definitely then we make the choice knowing that child can turn out however it chooses despite raising it (hopefully to one's best). If we could see the possibility of two paths our children could go, how many would still make the choice in hopes of the better outcome? Would we then be prepared to sacrifice even ourselves to right that wrong if it came to it? Not for that one that went astray, but for the others?
    I think that's the best way we can understand it on a human scale.

    • @VirtualResidence
      @VirtualResidence  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only thing about angels is I've heard that they were not granted free will, but this even goes deeper into what if we have the "illusion of free will"... like yes we have a choice in concept but if its all determined and predestined by a creator, then do we really have it or did the creator "write" it that way and only made us feel like we had a choice.? be careful going down that rabbit hole though else you might start feeling stuck in the last level of the game... lol a maze of madness.
