Few frequently asked question
1. For BLS center - Just write the location name for eg: Brampton. No need to write complete address.
2. No online upload for photo. Only to be pasted on application
3. BLS does not update status of application. You will get your document first and the update later.
4. If application entered is wrong. Start a fresh application and make sure to enter correct ARN when filling printed checklist form.
5. Only original Indian passport all other document is photocopy only. Indian passport will get cancelled and come back to you. Any visa with validity can be used with current nationality passport.
6. Answering checklist is your way of doing. You can tick or you can write verified.
7. Getting walkin appointment with BLS is a daunting task. They are promoting courier services more.
8. Only after surrender of passport and surrender certificate is got. one can apply for OCI.

1. What if the passport signatures differ on Indian and Canadian passports? For an online app, do you have to sign according to the Indian passport signature? Do you recommend using both signatures or just the new signatures for the self-attestation of documents?
2. If the wife has added the husband's last name, do we need to submit a legal copy of the legal name change certificate? At BLS, they said no name change certificate is required. Just wanted to double-check.

Hello , What if I added already Foreign date of acquisiton - as per canada passport details whiich is different than Oath date in online application form , what to do now ?
I got the oath done so applying for surrender certificate.. but my spouse will do oath after 20more days.
If i am filling and submitting this application tomorrow then i will choose Spouse's nationaility as India ...correct?

Do we need to enter Passport issue date of Canadian new passport OR the date when we took oath and became Canadian citizen?
The Certificate of Canadian citizenship has Effective Date of citizenship so its bit confusing.

Hi Robin. Not sure. For Surrender certificate while tracking I had to select OCI drop-down and not the passport. Hope this helps

This was helpful. In the checklist, it says Canadian/Foreign passport* (Copy) in the top table, then going down it says "Canadian / Foreign Passport (Original and copy)" so am I sending my original Canadian PP as well or just a copy will suffice?

Yes 129. 4 is officially. Pickup and drop is additional service. Do ask them for breakdown of the additional service charge

Hi Priya I send my OCI application draft (combined for all applicant for CGI and combined for all applicants for BLS fee) and had no problem. As long as application is complete it will not be issue. For minor address proof parents valid id card like drivers license will do

Hi Surrender certificate is a must document to the OCI that’s a way to ensure that person is not holding two passport

129.4 is not courier charges. BLS charges them separately. Please check the video I have explained in detail

I Surabhi when you give to Bank teller give them complete name. They will either manage or they will write what is possible. On your end don’t worry. I have submitted once with inc missing. Hope this helps

Sorry did not get your question. Is it after filing of application or in general. 3 months after getting citizenship is a good time. If you have filled application there is no deadline as such with BLS but sending application as early as possible will speed up getting the surrender certificate

I would suggest calling BLS once and note down individual name to whom you speak to be on safer side. By logic you will write your current name as given in Canada passport and give documents related to name change

Yes Drivers license is accepted as proof of address. You just need to self attested copies. Except India passport which will get punched and sent back you don’t send any originals.

Hi Pavan with your Canadian passport you can initiate for Evisa if you have immediate travel plan. For evisa you will be treated just like any other foreign nation. If you have travel after 5-6 months then you can get surrender certificate and then apply for OCI and travel with this. To make it simple evisa does not require surrender certificate

Hi I am not sure of your question. If you have Canadian passport don’t worry about US travel as you would use that. Regarding India passengers surrender you can send by courier. Hope this helps

@Canada1989 hi no need for online photos. What u need to do is call the BLS. They will tell u exactly what is needed. If u use their courier services u dont have to submit canadian passport or the certificate.

For the first part don’t worry if you have filled application correctly and document that you have shared has correct date of birth. For the second part yes BL s will check and revert the document if they find error

I have a follow up question regarding checklist item (e): Canadian/Foreign passport* (Copy)
The document checklist mention this as copy but in the detailed section this is what it says:
"Original Passport is required to be submitted for verification, it will be returned back after verification."
I notice there is a deviation as the former section of the checklist document states - Copy but the later section as original.

Hi if you are looking for walk-in appointment BLS says they open slot once in a while so i don’t know. I took the pick up and delivery service for which I was made to pay $158 for two applicants. Once I asked for details of payment made they returned $75. Hope this helps

You apply with new name for record and attach the copy of name change document as with surrender application your US passport too will get attached.

Just call BLS and they will generate links for payment. You may have to wait on call for 15-20 min

When you call them, they will take down passport details and then send link 🔗 to payment gateway on your 📧 email. Once payment is done you will get package label which you need to print and send it when purolator representative comes home to collect. He/she will usually bring the package-envelope with him

I fail to understand, how to make a payment of $ 168 as processing fee? Will they send me a link to pay $168 after the receipt of my application thereat for the surrender of Indian passport? Hi Sir since you have chosen this option there are three payment involved
1. Draft in name of CGI or HC depending on where Calgary resident need to send which I am hoping you are aware of.
2. Draft in name of BLS and
3. Payment for pick up and drop which can be done once BLS sends their payment link. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance

I have already received a payment link for "pick up and drop up charges" but will I get a payment link for the processing fee @$168 separately? This is my confusion. I request you to guide me.

when I visited Mississauga BLS for surrender of my Indian passport:
a. they mentioned you have not mentioned "ON" hence they told me that application will get rejected and I have to correct it. There were no other mistakes at all. Is this even really a mistake, as with postal code its unique address and there is no field for province in the address section.
b. My daughter's photo had white part line at bottom so they rejected that photo and we had to click photos of 3 of us. They kept one photo and returned one (hope i can use that for OCI and can use scan copy of that same photo to upload for oci).
c. they charged 88 + tax ie 100 CAD per person for 3 of us as part of premium lounge services (courier charges, photo and form correction) however they didnt give me breakdown of this amount just verbally told 53 for courier 18 for photo and remaining for form correction.
d. do you think any of the above charges or wrong or i have scope of escalation?
e. do bls give soft copy of the photo they click?

They do have walk-in but you would still need 4-6 weeks to get cancelled passport

The valid visas remain valid even after surrendering passport and can be used with new acquired citizenship/passport

Do they need original canadian passport ? It should be copy but When you scroll down this check list & under (e) it does says original passport. I am confused .

Number of character for BLS International services Canada Inc. is too long to fit. So I had to call help line again. They told me It is ok to have BLS Intl services Canada inc. Have ran in to this issue ?

Hi Checklist is nothing but what you are submitting as document. As long as you have all right document and that is listed it will be fine. Don’t stress out too much
What if someone has an FIR in India but became a citizen in Canada. Can they still surrender the Indian citizen?
Sorry I have no knowledge on this. Surrendering passport is a requirement which one has to do once taking any other Citizenship

BLS has pick up and drop service which is super expensive for many of us. I chose that option as even a walk-in would have been half a day affair. Call BLS and they would send you the link
Hi I just received the surrender certificate printed copy and Indian passport back. However, they did not send me back the Original Canadian passport that I sent as well. Do they send separately?

I am highly confused about pickup courier service. I called BLS today and my call was cancelled multiple times. I am thinking to opt for pickup dropoff service but it says that demand draft needs to cover courier fees however, there is no mention of how much courier fee would cost.
Hi please note that for CGI and BLS processing fee you will have to take draft separately. For courier fee BLS will send you link to your email id for payment part. Hope this helps

@ryder2shae the online application you filled is with Consulate General or High commission depending on where you are. Please follow the video and link on where you need to initiate next process which is with BLS international if you are from Canada. Do let me know if any questions

. Those who have misplaced or lost their last Indian passport and hence do not have their Indian passport which they can surrender for cancellation can apply based on submission of a sworn affidavit on loss of Indian Passport along with copy of the lost passport and other required documents.

BLS won’t accept the documents and also foreign passport details are required for OCI so better to initiate after getting one
