Can it be handwritten.
passport number - should be Indian passport number or US passport number?
2. Photograph and signature - checklist says original and digital - what does this mean, please elaborate...do we sign on reverse side of photo?
3. After we complete payment to vfs we get an email with attached pdf of renunciation certificate. Can we sign and send 2 of this as original docs to vfs?
3. Can we use paper clip to secure all the docs or just send them loose in the envelop?

@@mohananramachandran6560 a lawyer is voluntary affair, I have filed my own paperwork every single time. However renunciation of citizenship in case of India is merely an act of passing information that absolutely shouldn't cost anything. In fact the word "renunciation" is a deceptive word once you accept citizenship of any other country Indian citizenship is lost automatically, it doesn't need any special act of an Indian foreign office or Indian government to formally revoke your citizenship. That is why this renunciation fee is fleecing!

thanks Suja for nice video. I have 1 question: how many documents need to be notarized for naturalization after JUne 2010 and with passport? For adult, no notarization is requires, is it correct? For minor, 3 documents needs to be notarized a) parents sworn b) parent authorization c) parent statement that kid has no naturalization certificate. anything else i missed?

Do i still have to apply for Renunciation of Indian Citizenship ?. My understanding is when I applied for OCI now I do have to upload this Renunciation certificate at the time of OCI application. So can I upload copy of my Indian passport which has already Stamp stating "Cancelled Acquired US Citizenship" dated November 02, 2001. Thanks

One thing is very clear that Indian OCI/renunciation application is complicated and vague. Totally confusing. This appears to be on purpose and harassing. On top of this, no phone support except few minutes. Fees are very high but help/support is minimal.

Yes you should go with the name mentioned in the Indian passport, if you need new name in the renunciation you need to submit name change affidavit along with the application

My concern is when they ask that Do you have minor children, who are/ were citizens of india ? Then I select yes they ask for that children usa passport details but what if he doesn’t have the usa passport as of yet what am I supposed to put in those spaces? If I received US citizenship prior to 2010 and the Indian passport already expired prior to 2010, do I still have to return the expired Indian passport? It is not marked as cancelled, but was never used after becoming a naturalized US citizen. Once I apply for renunciation, will they return the cancelled passport to me ? I would like to keep it. @@minnie4973 this passport reference is purely to track the customer (created in the vfs portal) and the customer at the time of application is expected to be an us citizen. That's why it is US passport number and not the Indian passport number

I applied for it at high commission of India fro Tanzania but they said they are not allowed to issue such a letter according to citizenship act 1955. What should I do now ?

Ironically, this process is still slightly different (from VFS) depending on where you have acquired your naturalization or citizenship i.e. for Australia it has a different checklist and process which took me over 2 days to figure out. The worse part of this is, I had submitted my application by post but it came back as 'Rejected' just because Indian Government had decided to change the process once AGAIN, which poor Google search algorithm couldn't figure out and the forms I sent happened to be outdated (not to mention I had to perform further research and it still cost me $50 in this process). Good luck everyone, this application couldn't be any more complicated that this!

Basically, they change rules every now and then. The last time they changed them were in November 2021 (as far as my knowledge is concerned), as you can see below 👇

Hello, thank you for the guidance. Right now I’m in the process of renunciation of Indian passport for my minor child. For that we need to notarize some parental authorization form and sworn affidavits. I reached out to my bank requesting the notarization. They agreed but didn’t sign or stamp the actual document, instead, they signed and stamped another paper , saying that we sign the actual document in front of them and they are witness to that. Now I’m worried if this will jeopardize the process as we are planning a trip to India later. Any advice or experience sharing is greatly appreciated, thanks
