I,m sorry Tanya but i am so relieved that Maggie is fine that i completely missed the entire show and tell on the garden. I have to rewatch it a few times. Big cuddles for my favorite garden friend Maggie. I sadly lost my boy march this year due to a seizure. I still miss him every day.
Hello from Georgia in the US. Enjoyed your garden tour and the tips on containers. Prayers and love for Maggie; so happy she's on the mend - she is a darling. Thank you for sharing; take care.
So glad Maggie is ok. Those fur babies! Also feathered friends (chickens, in my case) love to roam but we have big trees and hawks. So they get supervised when I'm in the garden and the dog might help deter the hawks, but I'm not counting on that. You do what you can to balance happiness vs safety. Garden looks lovely!
I've seen some epic "catios" online and I'm positive you and Josh could out do them all. Maggie would have the best of both worlds. I'm so very happy she is on the mend and safe.
So glad Maggie is going to be okay :) I have always let my animals have freedom. My chihuahua can be taken by a fox or bord of pray ,but she has to live. Your garden looks lovely. I am having a slug problem this year and they ate my chilis and peppers.
Cats and roads are such a problem, especially when you have a cat that loves to 'travel'. Hopefully Maggie has learned her lesson and she'll be a little more circumspect around the Lane. I'm glad she's recovering well. The garden is looking beautiful. It's great to see the 'rooms' being created by the clever plantings you put together.
All of the gardens are just beautiful. That was a really great idea for the potting bench. Many blessings to Maggie may she heal quickly. Have a blessed week ahead.
I am so relieved Maggie is recovering! I wasn’t sure from your earlier post so this is welcome news! ❤️❤️❤️ I lost my beloved precious fur daughter Darcy around midnight February 12 and my heart is so broken. She is the closest I will ever have to a real child, she was born in my home and I loved her from the hour of her birth and will until I die. I am so thankful that Maggie has more time left with her family. ❤. I think your pallet potting bench is very clever.
I,m so sorry for your loss. I understand how you feel, i lost my beautifull boy Bram on march 22 due to a seizure he never came out of. We didn't know he had them. I'd love to think that they're both healthy again and playing around in rainbowland behind the clouds.
I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I know that heartbreak well when I lost Cheebies and Louis. They were born on February 12th, 2011, and though time has passed, my heart still hurts when I think about it. Sending you healing comforting thoughts 💚💚
Hoping poor Maggie recovers back to her usual self. She looks alert, so hopefully no lasting damage. Planted first early Duke of York potatoes mid-February in seven pots. Harvested first pots at beginning of May and the last for this weekend. The Caledonian Pearl first earlies planted in the ground late April are through the soil but will be a couple of months yet. Strawberries in flower and there are some small berries appearing. Everything else is a bit behind yours in Man.

I'm so glad Maggie is recovering well x Electric vehicles are also a concern, as you, or the cat can not hear them ... sadly I know this from experience 😢😢😢 Your garden is as beautiful and productive as ever :)
Aww, poor Maggie- what a scare for you. When I had cats, I used to clip their claws and then they found it hard to scrabble up fences as no 'hooks' on their claws. My garden was totally fenced with 6ft high fencing. I also made a large , secure garden enclosure. complete\with shrubs and small trees, so my cats could enjoy outside time unsupervised. Hope these ideas might work fozaggie to keep her safe.
Your garden is lovely; I always learn something. I've been making your simple face cream recipe for a year now. I really like the way it feels. Thank you. Lee

Glad your Maggie is doing well, they can be such a worry sometimes as we care for them so much. Garden looks great and love the shed makeover. Thanks for sharing.
Love seeing around your garden Tanya. Poor Maggie. I hope she's improving all the time. We rescued a cat 3 years ago who had to have her tail amputated after a traffic accident. She has trouble with her bladder and bowels. Sometime she floods and can get constipated. It's an ongoing problem. I hope Maggie is doing well bless her.
SO glad Maggie is on the mend ❤ I have a gardening question for you. I have always been unclear about how/when to harvest potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions… as far as, do they need time to cure? Can you eat them straight out of the ground? Can they overwinter and you just dig as needed? Would love more info about those types of things! I hear that carrots can be left in ground all winter, and you just pick as needed. That would work great for people with no place to store them. Thank you for your channel. We love it!
Thank you, Janeen 💚 In mild climates, you can often leave root crops in the ground over winter. When I mean mild, that means that it doesn't dip much below freezing at all. Otherwise, you'll need to lift and store carrots, potatoes, and other crops, or they can freeze and rot in the ground. Onions are ready to harvest when the stems fall over. Garlic, when half of the lower leaves are yellow and dead. Onions and garlic need drying before storage, called curing. Though normal potatoes can be eaten straight from the ground, sweet potatoes need curing before eating and storage. See my sweet potato video for more info on how to do that.
Thank you! I will check out that video. Curing, how long, where to cure… all things I need to get a better grasp on! Most fun thing we ever grew during my childhood was popcorn. Growing, picking, then ‘twisting’ off the kernels and letting the wind blow out the chaf. Best popcorn ever 😊

poor little Maggie, but she will bounce back...she's a brawler and won't be held down...😼 your garden is fabulous as always...great to see you...have a sweet week
Thank you 💚 She's not mended yet but the signs are good. With the broken tail she can't jump and she walks very strangely. Hoping she's on the road to recovery, though 🙏
I love your garden. We have the hardest year of gardening this year. Rain since Oktober i think, warm weather al the winter long and slugs allover the propertie. I lost so many crops and flowers. It is great to go to the super market. Hard time of a veggiegarden
It's been terrible here with the wet and slugs, too. Armies of tiny baby slugs. Though I rarely use them, I've had to resort to using organic slug pellets for young plants in the greenhouse and polycrub. They were getting decimated before!
Josie is beautiful. I'm so happy Maggie is recovering. It's so difficult when pets get hurt/sick. My heart sank. One of my huskies was hit by a young guy one day. No one's fault and I ended up trying to help him by the roadside. It was traumatic. Can I say that you were one of my first gardeners I started to follow and I absolutely adore all your content. I am so interested in the container part coming up this year. ❤
No she didn't and my two oldest saw the whole thing. One of my boys didn't talk for 2 Weeks it was awful. I can't express the pain. We did have a little ceremony and planted a tree next to her. Her name was Quincy. I suppose just do what we can.
Oh no poor Maggie. Glad she is able to pee. Had exact same with a tabby cat Oliver of mine, got hit by car. The vet amputated his tail, as he said the spine would fix better and may not work , it was lifeless, but main thing was, ❤ he survived. I called him Oli-bobs after that he was so cute even with his stumpy tail.
So thankful Maggie is doing well. I love your Pup! The garden looks fantastic!!!! So??? What will you make with the Cola plant? Purpose? I am so intrigued.
I'm intrigued with it, too! I'm thinking of using it for flavouring drinks, but who knows what else? It will also create a wonderful evergreen shrub for the garden - eventually it will go in a border.
Hi Tanya, I sowed some asparagus from seed in spring 2021 the variety 'Connover's Colossal' of which I now have 18 plants (or crowns). I was able to cut one spear from each plant this year. Some plants are stronger, a few are a bit weaker and behind in size but should eventually catch up. I can start full cropping from next spring. I have been so busy in May and early June at the allotment almost every day and sometimes 4, 5 and even 6 hours a day at the allotment. I take sandwiches, a flask of tea or cordial and spend most of the day there occasionally and usually at least 2 hours there each day, I maybe miss obe day a week working at the allotment, now that I have fully retired from work and I turn 60 this coming Sunday 9th June (which I can hardly believe).

Back then corn was strictly pig food in the Netherlands. Funny thing, they all loved sweet corn. This was in the late 1960s.
Sweet corn is hit or miss here, especially with the wind. I have to stake each plant when I grow corn! As for food culture, corn, especially on the cob, is not as much of a staple in Europe as it is in the States. Sweet corn usually comes pre-cooked in plastic packaging for cooking on the occasional BBQ. I know - crazy.
Your puppy looks about the same size as our black long haired German shepherd working dog. But my pup’s ears are still floppy he was born in February. He likes to dig a cool spot in the garden to lay down and rest when he gets tired of waiting for us
It was fascinating watching Josie's ears lift. It was one, then the other made it up shortly after but then flopped back down. We thought it was broken 😆 but one day weeks later it popped back up! GSDs are such great dogs - as I'm sure you well know with your boy 😍

Honestly a catery is a great idea. You can design miles around your garden. She just won’t wonder off and get hurt. Sounds like the car just nicked her back end. So many ideas and designs of cateries even hanging ones and she can be in and out. Saved her and the heart break!

Hi, so glad that Maggie is recovering. Thank you so much for showing the up date of your garden. I have a question relating to sweet potatoes. I am growing it for the 1st time this year. Is it so that you can pick some of the leafs, but still harvest bulbs later on? Or is it just growing it for bulbs or for leafs?
See if Maggie would be satisfied with a "catio" for her, she can go out, watch (probably in frustration) birds and passing animals, yet stay away from traffic. Some feral cats don't seem to mind as long as they have perches, toys, and of course food. It's scary when animals are injured, they can't tell us how they're feeling. My container garden is slow, even for being a semi-shaded garden. Two weeks of cool cloudy weather isn't helping. 🇨🇦
Yes, I have a small "catio" for my 2 cats that exits thru an upper window. One cat prefers & sits out there for hours. The other I put a collar on him and walk him on a leash. He really only wants to make his "rounds" then goes back inside to the "catio" or the window bed. Takes 5 mins max.
Anyone who has adopted a cat that lived outdoors will understand - you can't keep them in or your life is miserable with the whining and scratching and pawing at the door. They need their garden fix as much as we do. ha ha. I'm so glad she is ok.
Exactly 💯 The catio brigade are well-meaning, but it's not possible. It would be cruel to Maggie and make our lives difficult. It's the equivalent of pandemic lockdown for people.

Hi Tanya!
Glad to hear goods news about Maggie. Hopefully this will teach her to not wonder off.
I'm curious Tanya, do you or have you, grown sweet corn on the IOM?
I grew up in a family owned nursery here in the states and in August the Dutch salesmen used to stop to get our tulip order for delivery in February. They always came home with Dad for a grilled steak and sweet corn supper. They never ate corn before and were shocked that it was on the table. Back then corn was strictly pig food in the Netherlands. Funny thing, they all loved sweet corn. This was in the late 1960s.

You can grow it for both edible leaves and tubers if you are reserved with taking leaves.
@@Lovelygreens Thank you!
I've got to find out which variety of strawberries you're growing. I'm also in zone 10b and I haven't had much luck.
