I was asked where you can find my vegetable garden on Fryd... Once you login and are using the app on your computer here it is: login.fryd.app/en/plan/templates/458
The meetings and bondings will go perfectly, do not worry! Remember, your animals are going to mirror YOUR (and Josh’s) energies and emotions. If you’re happy and at peace, they will be too, with each other. If you’re nervous and anxious, they will be too. Our emotions are our animals’s North Star. As for potential digging and destruction from Josie, the same applies: establish boundaries and use loving, but very firm, cues - she will pick up on those and mature as she grows.
Josie is so precious!♥🐕🦺 You now have your own "Josie and the pussycats"! (That was a cartoon when I was growing up.) The garden is already showing so much progress.
Josie Bear is gorgeous,I have had dogs for years, and the best advice I can give about the Garden is don’t try ant keep her away from it,let her go around with you when you are doing your jobs, she soon will get to know what she is not supposed to do..
I agree with this completely - though it sounds counter-intuitive, giving her freedom little by little will keep her from going wild when she’s alone. I’m a country girl and we had gardens and indoor/outdoor dogs my entire youth, and they never bothered a single thing. Our dogs were deeply bonded with the family, and especially viewed my dad as the alpha leader. Him just giving a deliberately low, deep-voiced “warning” was enough to get them to back off of any undesirable behaviors. Dogs grow to deeply bond with their humans, and their #1 joy in life is to please us, so with firm and loving guidance they will behave. The dogs who cause constant trouble almost always have anxious, fearful humans.
Your garden looks amazing! Maggie will have a little garden buddy that can match her energy & stop her boredom. Don't forget to socialize and start the grooming/bathing process now. And if need be, taking her to puppy classes for some early training and bonding. Love how her ears are already trying to stand up! She's a beauty for sure! So snuggable, LOL! 🥰
Thank you, Janet! We've been watching tons of puppy training videos but are definitely going to take her to obedience classes, too. We hear that GSDs are fairly easy to train 🤞
I have a German Shepard and a garden. I taught her to only be on paths and not in the garden beds. I started from when she was a puppy and now she knows where she can and cannot go. Takes a lot of correcting but they are smart!
I am very happy that you adopted the lovely puppy. It is very important to know that a dog's brain does not work like a human brain. A dog learns from corrections that are made at that moment and also needs to be praised and encouraged immediately when she does what she is told. I also had a German shepherd puppy and I started teaching him immediately when he came to me at the age of 8 weeks. Teach simple things like sit and wait quietly for food, don't run immediately when the door opens, teach the dog by personal example. Show her to sit on command, make her wait a little longer each time until she gets permission to eat or get up and always receive her nicely and happily
Lol...what a beautiful puppy ! I have a beautiful German Shepard named Helga, and it can be quite a daunting task teaching her "garden etiquette" 😂 Fear not....she is of noble breed, and with the proper teaching, (and loads of patience) she will soon know where, and where not, she can roam. The only problem I have had is that Helga loves asparagus, and will sneak off for a snack when I'm not watching. She's 2 years old now and a great garden companion ! I LOVE your garden and your videos....I've learned a lot from you. 😁
German shepherds aren't like other dogs, they are the best gardening buddies, remember how intelligent they are, they want to learn and please, give her jobs, teach her what shes allowed do and where to go and be patient she's just a baby, definitely watch your bamboo canes, they are very attractive chew sticks to a puppy but they are sharp and dangerous. Bring her round the garden with you regularly she'll start to understand, have her hangout with a rope toy, also carrots are better for them cold out the fridge eases gum pain.
A wonderful garden alongwith a lovely partner & cute pets. That looks like a sweet beautiful family 😍. Stay blessed & happy, friend. Love & respect to y'all from Assam,India 💛🙏🏻
Oh Josie, you are a doll! We have 3 large dogs, Great Pyrenees, and keeping them from smashing my plants is a real challenge. The Vegetable gardens are safe because I use 12" and taller raised beds. It's my flower gardens that I have to protect. When my plants are just emerging from the ground, I have to protect them from being overrun by using a lot of metal cloches and very short garden fencing. I also lay goat fencing right on top of the ground when sowing flower seed, they don't like stepping on the wire. By the time the plants are 12" or so, I can remove all the barricades because the dogs will use the walkways rather than taking shortcuts thru the flowers.
Others have commented on protection to keep eager paws off your crops and flowers to prevent trampling, but bear in mind that they might also develop a taste for your crops. My dogs are terrors for raiding carrots and brassicas and strawberries and would dig up potatoes if I didn’t protect them. I have a couple of beds at least 24 inches tall and that’s easy for a big dog to hop into. I choose to protect each bed as necessary. I would need a 5’ fence all round otherwise!
Super cute Josie will be fine in the garden. You will have to teach her, let her help or direct her. When my doggies were babies, I enjoyed letting them help me dig. Amazingly, they eventually grew out of digging. I would love them to dig more but mostly they just sit in the sun and hang out with me. They do pee, so anything I do not want them to pee on, I put things around it so they cannot stand near enough the plants or raise the plants. When they were puppies, if they wanted to chew, I would redirect them and give them chew bones or chew sticks or throw sticks for them away from anything I did not want them chewing. They grew out of that pretty quickly, though I did have one that likes to chew my plum cuttings sometimes, so I will cut branches for him. None of my dogs were big chewers or diggers though, so some of how you distract or teach Josie will depend on Josie. I am looking forward to seeing her helping you in the garden.
I cannot believe how far this property has come since moving in. It’s even hard to remember the previous house. Y’all have done so great! We moved into our new house several months after you did but we didn’t have nearly as much to do as you have done… well done!! …and Josie really is adorable!!❤
I barely remember our old house, either 😆 We live in a smallish community so I did spot photos of the gardens about six months after we sold it. EVERYTHING was hacked down and ripped up. Every shrub, tree, raised bed, and plant. It's tragic. As for your current garden - little and often is the way to get there in an enjoyable way. You're doing great :)
@@Lovelygreens * Heart broken* about your old property. I guess I can understand. The previous owner of our property kept a tidy yard to military precision. I ripped out most of the grass. I bet that probably broke his heart but hoping the beds of flowers 🌸 makes up for it all.
A beautiful long haired GSD! Congratulations! Remember that it is a very smart breed and they love structure and training. She is not too young to start. The time is now. :)
Thank you so much! She's getting loads of training already and has learned sit, paw, lie down, and is getting there with stay and leave it. Such a smart girl :)
Josie is adorable!!! Love those ears! Congratulations!!!! I've always had 2 big dogs (puppies at first of coarse) and they have always hung out in garden with me, with no issues. ( they have found baby bunnies and moles!) Enjoy.
Dear Tanya, You are so lovely and wonderful! I learned so much from you ever since I found you on TH-cam. Thank you and All the best , ShalOm from south of Portugal ❤️🕊️
The garden is amazing. Thanks for the tour and growing tips. Josie is so cute 😍 -socializing her -getting her used to baths/ teeth brushing/ nail clipping -lots of fun activity… a tired pup is less destructive Even if it’s on a leash let her follow around the garden.. she’s curious. Let her get used to the smells and gently guide her on what is and isn’t ok
She's been getting regular walks in the garden and, at least for her dad, has been very good about staying on the paths. Hopefully, she'll be a good girl, and she'll never be out there unaccompanied.
The garden looks great, can’t wait to see what you do with all the carrots. Having had and still have multiple dogs from all ages I have found that putting corner post in the veg beds slightly guides the dogs down the path and your paths are very defined so that will help. gradually learning the words off my garden. 😅 but the accidents will happen and holes appear but the friendship of your beautiful dog will outweigh it all.
Maggie wants nothing to do with her, unfortunately. Portia is scared, too :( The good news is that Comet is really curious about her and has already had two positive nose-to-nose interactions. He keeps appearing from no where and casually stretching on the floor where Josie is. So funny :)
Lovely video , as usual 🌷🪻🌷🪻. I had never heard of first early and second early potatoes until I started watching videos from the UK. We have a six and a half foot fence around our garden to keep the deer, elk, moose, & wild turkeys out of our garden. It keeps the dog out also. I didn’t think she would be a problem but she’s a digger and I didn’t like having the garden look like it had been bombed 😂. Have a fantastic week! TeresaSue
I think that people dig around their maincrop potatoes to harvest "new potatoes" in the USA? Oh man, bombed garden 🙈 I can't discount that being a possibility with our little rascal! Fencing of some sort will be a must, regardless
i do garden 0.5 acre and we got 2 German shepherds - no bother at all once you ready for some losses ( that is why i plant 30% extra just in case :) ... no rabbits or other creatures in garden - its guaranteed !
Josie is such a cutie!! I hope she will be an active participant in future videos 😄😍 when we took our puppy in June last year, she was really into digging stuff and eating leaves, so almost all veggies and fruits we had were gone within a month (we have a small garden though, so really just a few potatoes, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, lettuces). This year, we see that she is sniffing the plants but not really interested in biting them anymore, so it might have had to do with her teething last year. Digging still remains for now, but we try to be consistent in catching her in the act and redirecting her to a small sandbox we built for her, so hope with time, she will stop digging the ground. I think the reason is maybe some ants or bugs she smells there. I saw on youtube some advice to bury her poop in the hole she is digging, and it tends to stop her from doing so. I'm not sure if that will work. I'm just passing on the info I got 😄 All the best of luck with little Josie ❤
Beautiful garden... I like the size of the wood chips. I'm gonna see if our new dog likes the carrots out of the garden.. thank you so much for sharing ❤
aww puppy love, I have a GSD mix and he loves to dig!! not want you need and also he loves to "help" which consists of me doing something in the garden and him being underfoot. Hes killed off several plants but over time as he grew became less and less. Thing is if he sees me digging he thinks its ok? Dog logic. As a pup though even to the teens dont leave them alone in the garden, you may find things have been rearranged lol . Ollie has his own area to dig now and seems to know its his. he likes to bury bones and toys etc. He is coming up to four years old and i have just accepted the fate of a few plants. I wouldnt be without him for company, he`s loyal and loving. Crate trained was a must I am not sharing my bed with a 90lb dog no thanks. lol
Train her in the garden, have some treats and teach her to stay on paths. We have 2 farm dogs and generally they are fine. Giving enough attention will generally limit digging but sometimes we let her dig when we are digging too, like turning over beds. Some breeds will have a tendency to dig more than others. Every now and then there is a small amount of damage but we tend to plant a little extra for nature anyway.
We’ve had our German shep pup for a year now. She loves digging so the only way to keep plants safe is to fence them in. However, she can jump high too so lots of training required. They’re highly intelligent dogs and need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They’ll mouth and be nibbly for a while. Mine still likes to mouth when playing. Get them socialised young. They’re very territorial and loyal. They’re also quite an anxious breed, so need introducing to lots of noises to desensitise them. They can get separation anxiety also. I’ve had shepherds my whole life. The rescues were easier than this recent pup! My girl is a year and 4 months old she’s super strong and very big last time we checked she was at about 36kg. She’s been able to pull me over since she was about 8months old.
Create a spot in the garden to teach Josie to do her business just there. I follow Victoria Stillwell she has great puppy training vlogs a great trainer.

Wow, what a beautiful puppy! I love your video. Thank you for sharing
I have quite a lot of experience about how to make your pets be if not friends but at least make them not hurt each other. You just have to introduce them to each other, stay together in the same room with them, control the situation, command the older pets if they try to hurt the baby. Remark: usually they don't. Your cats will realize that your puppy is a baby and won't hurt her. The puppy won't hurt them because she's a baby and not aggressive yet. I hope I've managed to make myself clear, English is not my native. About keeping the garden safe. You have raised beds and dogs (apart from cats) kind of understand that. You just have to monitor at first and stop her if she tries to go on the vegetable-bed. If there is no raised bed, it's a bit confusing for the puppy as she can't tell potatoes or broccoli from weeds. Just stop her if she goes where you don't want her to. German Shepherds are clever enough, she'll understand. Give her your time. Don't forget that she's a baby and needs a lot of you attention now, don't keep her isolated, she should follow you as if you had a tail. Happy motherhood ))
Wonderful advice - thank you. And your explanation is absolutely perfect :) She is such a sweet little baby and I'm so fortunate to be able to work from home!
Your new puppy is so cute. I would love if you could give a tip about cats using the garden beds for toilet. I have a few kittens living in our garden. They are stray and Ive been feeding them to help them get through winter. I love to watch them playing and walking around the garden but I wonder if their poop is a problem. Thanks again for another great video. I always learn a lot with you.
You know, I don't stress out about it. I know mine wee in the soil, but so far, I've not found any poos. Those they like to leave in the grass! Toxoplasmosis is the main worry with cat faeces, but if you have a cat, you'll probably be exposed to it anyway. It's not usually something to worry about unless you're pregnant. If I did come across a cat poo in the beds, I'd scoop it out and throw it away. Then try to cat proof that bed as best I can. The metal hoops I use plus good garden netting are good at keeping Maggie out of beds. She's a terror with playing in them and can be destructive towards seedlings.
I fast forwarded to the puppy too! Dogs are really easy to train -- cats not so much..so yes, dogs do create a whole much more destruction if left alone than a cat but dogs just want your love & attention. If you just explain the area they can step on..they are more than happy to accommodate!! Loving repetition is key🤣..Enjoy
just an fyi...my puppy turned on my cats after 2 years of loving coexistence...fortunately there is no deadly havoc- just an attitude annoyance issue..jealousy, I suspect?? Family 🤩
It will be interesting if your branches around the compost will provide nesting opportunities for small birds. Unfortunately, Maggie may approve of that too!
In cat-free gardens it would be a wonderful nesting area. Not in our garden, though! We've put up a couple of birdhouses houses high up on trees, though. I hope we'll see some nesting action this year :)
I have a german shephard cross (he's an old boy now) and we were able to teach him not to go in gardens. For us, it was doable, he picked up on it easily. That being said- he wasn't a pupy at the time, already knew basic things. Also, he had areas of grass to run and play on so it wasn't a huge ask for him to stay out of the gardens. Basically taught him that grass was fair game and soil was a no go. I'm sure you can do something similar that works for you. Though it'll be a learning curve with some casualties with a young pup I expect.
She's already learning a bit, and we play with her on the grass, not whilst walking on the wood chip paths. I have hope, but we're being vigilant with watching her and consistent with training. Fingers crossed 🤞 and thank you!
I think of all the Golden Retrievers that Monty Don has had in his garden. He seems to train them to stay out of the beds. I don't know if he discusses this in his book about his dogs.
Hi, You really do great work on your garden and I was wondering if you could share your insight on your woodchip pathways. Or if this was already a topic on your channel can you please share a link? I have same solution but weeds are coming out so I wonder what is the issue, is it the thickness, is it the cardboard underneath instead of plastic? Many thanks in advance.
Very sweet new addition! I keep meaning to ask, do you find that your cats and the local cats use your beds as a toilet? I'm always finding surprises in mine! Plus squashed seedlings...
I do occasionally see them doing #1s, but thankfully (?), Maggie does her #2s in the grass. The Korats use their litter trays for that. Beds that have been recently mulched with compost are not a problem - the cats stay away from them for some reason. Seedlings in beds not recently mulched can be an issue, though. For those, I use hoops and netting. Also, once beds are filled with plants, the cats don't dig at all.
Should have shown the puppy at the onset, I went to the end first❤🐕. I have Swiss Whites, and I would say throw her straight into everything you do, then it won't seem off-limits, and they learn with minor modifications to behavior. My big dogs do the occasional dig and pull up chard when I'm not looking, but life is better for us all as a family to meet in the middle.
don't be fooled by the cute looks ... we got a cute pup last year and he's a pain in the butt ... but we wouldn't be without him🤣 until you find all the excavations in the garden🤦♂
Josie is beautiful, now is the time to invest in training and teaching her to be the companion that you want her to be. You probably wan't her to be included in your gardening and stick to the pathways, not getting over exited and running across your veg beds. My advice would be to do the lead training, on a short lead, around the paths in the veg garden. Walk slowly, stop for a moment at the cross roads in the pathways, look both ways, pause for a moment and you decide which route to follow. Keep changing the route, she will learn to follow you. Carry something interesting with you, like a toy or a treat. Use a different area close by to play ball games and work on recall, and to just sit and relax, have a cuddle. Socialise her with the cats asap, discourage the cats from walking freely upon your veg beds. What you don't want to end up with is a penned in, frustrated large dog.
Don't worry :) We use the enclosure for some of her wee breaks as well as have her on a lead. There are too many dangerous things (wood chip!) for her to run around freely for now. She's only eight weeks old!
I would recommend finding a positive reinforcement trainer to help with keeping puppy out of the garden. Until then just don’t let the dog in the garden unless on a leash or in that xpen. That way it doesn’t practice any unwanted behaviors.
Some dogs dig, some don't. Main issue with female dogs is the urine damage to grass lawns, leaving lots of brown patches. So need to encourage her to go elsewhere than any nice grassed areas.
i have a cane corso she doesnt go in the garden.. after training or small little fence around. also i would teach her to poop in one spot... so u never walk in it :-)😂
It's beyond me how people can leave their crops uncovered and not have them eaten by pigeons. There is nothing left of my purple sprouting broccoli but the main stem. Or are their just no pigeons in your area?
I have a gaggle of pigeons that are always pecking around in the grass. They're wood pigeons though and that may be the reason I've been lucky? We're rural and city pigeons seem smaller and more cheeky.
I was asked where you can find my vegetable garden on Fryd... Once you login and are using the app on your computer here it is: login.fryd.app/en/plan/templates/458

I've not watched the video just yet but OH, MY HEART, YOUR NEW PUPPY IS ADORABLE. AWWWWWWW, I'VE MELTED ❤❤❤
She has us under her little paw already 🥹
You have a lovely puppy. Isle of Man i love you. My home for 17 years . On mainland now.
It is a beautiful place to live 💚 Thank you
Lovely video , as usual 🌷🪻🌷🪻.
I'll bet 😆
Thank you and thanks for the advice, too! Puppies do like to chew A LOT 🙈
I would get a fence around the garden.
Beautiful garden... I like the size of the wood chips. I'm gonna see if our new dog likes the carrots out of the garden.. thank you so much for sharing ❤
I'll bet your new doggo will love them! Josie devours carrots if we give them to her and others have reported the same 😆
Josie is gorgeous!
Josie is so adorable!!😊
Josie is so cute 🥰
The cutest 💗
aww puppy love, I have a GSD mix and he loves to dig!! not want you need and also he loves to "help" which consists of me doing something in the garden and him being underfoot. Crate trained was a must I am not sharing my bed with a 90lb dog no thanks. lol
It's a good thing I'm a no-dig (ish) gardener, then 😆 Thank you for sharing about Ollie!
Fantastic garden, beautiful puppy. Thank you for sharing.
It's my pleasure 💚 Thank you
Train her in the garden, have some treats and teach her to stay on paths.
Planning for a little extra seems to be a wise move!
Josie has gained 1 kg in just the first week - I think she'll be like your girl before long, too! 😆
Congrats on your new fur-baby! She is so cute!
Thank you!! 😊
Create a spot in the garden to teach Josie to do her business just there. I follow Victoria Stillwell she has great puppy training vlogs a great trainer.
Wow, what a beautiful puppy! I love your video. Thank you for sharing
You are so kind 💓 Thank you
I have quite a lot of experience about how to make your pets be if not friends but at least make them not hurt each other.
I agree with this - consistency and patience are the keys.
Family 🤩
Oh no! So sorry that happened! Do you know how it happened?
Ah, yes! I'll have a look :)
Maggie = cute 💖
She is 💓 Love little Maggie
I wish I could start planting, have to wait at least another 6 weeks.
Would growlights and starting seeds undercover help you get a headstart and a garden fix? :)
When is our last frost date? I got excited with the sun this weekend and decided to plant anyway 😂
Ours is the last day of March, so potatoes can go in now. By the time their leaves appear, it will be into April 👌
Lovely garden and tour! Your polytunnel is amazing, which brand is it? Thanks
Thank you! It's a Polycrub
I have a GSD.
Teach her young.. he ate all but three of my broccoli’s last week. 😂
Oh no! I foresee lots of netting in my future
Where did you get the right angled hoops
I share where I got them, along with other recommended gardening products here: lovelygreens.com/recommended-gardening-tools/
ive only got a lill dog and I have to fence everyone off or she ll dig everything up lol
Oh dear 😆
@@Lovelygreens oh ye lol
don't be fooled by the cute looks ... we got a cute pup last year and he's a pain in the butt ... but we wouldn't be without him🤣 until you find all the excavations in the garden🤦♂
Beautiful green house ❤❤❤❤ we will have ours up soon join us ❤❤❤❤❤
My sweet bernese mountian dog is a garden terrorist. I had to put up a fence to keep her out.
Oh dear 😆
Thank you for your advice, Caroline 💚
why is the puppy in that enclosure? it wants to be with you and doing things.
Thank you for the advice 🙏
Wait. I can grow marshmallows? I've been doing life all wrong.
Some dogs dig, some don't. Main issue with female dogs is the urine damage to grass lawns, leaving lots of brown patches. So need to encourage her to go elsewhere than any nice grassed areas.
I'm a little concerned about this, too, but we'll be keeping an eye out for it. Thanks!
i have a cane corso she doesnt go in the garden.. after training or small little fence around. also i would teach her to poop in one spot... so u never walk in it :-)😂
Our current challenge is stopping her from eating her poop once it's out 🙈

مسيىة موفقة🎍🎍🎍🎍🎍🎍💔💔💔💔🐈🐈🐈🐈⬛🐈⚘️⚘️⚘️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The cats will get used to the puppy..
Why the poor puppy is in a cage :(
To keep her safe while she poops! She's a baby with no recall.
Ok goodbye garden hello puppy, comments are income so I do understand but not for me
I have more hope :) She's learning fast and is already much loved. There will be future disasters, but the garden overall will continue to grow 🌿🥕🌱💐
