I’m not into Dark Souls in any way, but I respect it for it’s mostly fair difficulty, interesting world, and interesting enemies and bosses. This guy clearly isn’t into Dark Souls, but instead of saying it’s not for him, he wants the game to conform to what he wants from it. Basically every game journalist today

I think a better term than “fair” would be conquerable. The game will absolutely kick you in the shin, but if you learn, you don’t need frame-perfect reaction timing or anything crazy to win

Souls games make you a fanboy. I played my first game and then suddenly I’m in comment sections telling casuals to get gudd 😂. Souls games have a way of making you love the franchise. The overarching theme is literally man’s ability to overcome any obstacle.

tbh games like The Last of Us and other “movie games” have ruined actually trying in a video game. That’s why I think having so many people say Elden Ring deserves Game of the Year I was surprised since it’s more of a traditional souls game than Sekiro.

I liked it too. It's one of the better designed zones in the whole series. His gameplay is mostly from the early areas... Except the part with 99 liquid humanity and 13 million souls...
It kinda looks like he might have played everything after the early game with cheats...
Also note that getting that many souls takes several hours and only if you are close to level 700 is the soul cost high enough for you to be unable to level up with that amount.
I have over 1k hours in Dark Souls and my main character is still under level 500...

You didn't pick up on this, but he says that if you own the original release then there's no reason to buy the remastered; 99% of the online community is active on remastered and the original release needed mods to work online on PC even when the community was there, so either this guy isn't aware of the significant online features or he really doesnt understand that different games use different servers 😫

I got into dark souls when DS3 got released. Up till then I haven’t played any games that were remotely as challenging. up until that point I realize that I was kind of getting swindled for my time just having my hand held through games constantly. I like the fact that FromSoft allows you to lose and allows you to get better. It’s up to you and your individual determination as a player to get better. Otherwise you just wind up being either an over powered build and then the game isn’t as fun, or are you just rage and leave the game. not to mention that the lore and themes are phenomenal, even though I wasn’t necessarily a fan of how it was distributed at first. overall to say that dark souls is overrated this chest either being willfully contrarian, or you just need to git gud

As a long standing fan of Monster Hunter I have no clue what this man is on about making Dark Souls seem like it's just Monster Hunter, but unfair. I do find most Monster Hunter games harder than basically all of the Soulsborne games... Not necessarily for good reasons though. Only recently have Monster Hunter games had good hitboxes, it took them a long time to hone them into what we have in World, and Rise. Anyone who has fought Plesioth in MHFU knows what I'm talking about. I feel Dark Souls does take inspiration from Monster Hunter, they also take a lot of inspiration from Zelda. None of this is a bad thing, they saw something fun and cool, and they made their own game with it's own unique gameplay and innovations. They're not ripping either of these series off. It's not like they named their game "Creature Slayer" with the exact same gameplay loop as Monster Hunter, or "Tales of Zelba" with the same dungeons and puzzles as one of the Zelda games.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the way DSR was put on steam and why it got so much negativity in regards to how Fromsoft took down the original DS game from steam when the remastered came out. I don't remember DSR coming out in a broken state other than server issues which while is deserving of criticism, doesn't negate the quality of the game.
I bought prepare to die in 2016 and I remember it being more expensive than 20 USD. The crashing has been non-existent in DSR for me so far unlike prepare to die and increased optimization and compressing the active community prior to DSR with new players who bought DSR into a single game makes more sense than leaving it split up.
Maybe it's because I love DS1 so much and is by far my favorite game, but I don't see much issue with taking down prepare to die edition. Only thing I can really think of is that for people who have owned the original version for a long enough period of time, say before the remaster was announced, it could have/should have been free, but even then the increased optimization and having an actually active online player base made it worth it for me. 20 dollars is nothing compared to the garbage that has been churned out by European/American companies for the better part of a decade now.

You don’t have to have anything negative to say about something to review it. Now it is probably not a good idea to review something that you have a bias toward. I would never do a review of StarCraft or Gears of War. Because StarCraft got me into an entire genre. And Gears of War, there was a huge storm when the first one came out. this, even a game which supposedly present you with more problem the longer you dive in, like, factorio, or rimworld at some point will become 'easy' once the player figure out how to handle said problem.
so yeah, it's not the game become easier, it's the player 'getting better' at it.

I wouldn't call DS "extremely" fair :D The first mimic had me uninstall the game

The mimic's chain is reversed and you can see the chest breathing. Its honestly your fault for not paying attention. Also it's a fantasy RPG, ofc theres gonna be mimics

@@paulcasanova1909 I've played dozens of fantasy RPGs. I'd say MOST of them don't have mimics lol. The chest moving is quite minimal you'd have to stop and observe it and why should I have insight to do that

@@simolaine1099 The first instance of a mimic in the game, and one you'll most likely encounter, is in Sen's Fortress. Which is a heavily booby trapped place meant to mess with you. So having the insight to question if the chest is a trick isn't non-existant

Honestly this video is just as bad as Davo's.
His video on Dark Souls is terrible, and I honestly expected you to point out that he points out the same criticisms the community makes, which contradicts his point about the series being overrated.
But no, twelve minutes in and you do nothing but interject every thirty seconds to make a stupid comment that either misinterprets what he was saying or is entirely irrelevant. Half the time when you can be bothered to actually make a point you can't be bothered to structure it correctly. I mean, for god's sake, the downstairs? It takes under a minute to look up "Dark Souls areas" and look at the different levels.
It's just sad, I was really looking forward to seeing someone actually cut Davo's contrarianism down to size, but this video might actually be worse. At the very least Davo structures his points, as bad as they are.

Are you going to give any examples of him misinterpreting it or are you just gonna say that and expect people to take your word for it?

I think both of you have good points but this video comes off as pretentious. Is Dark Souls a good game. Yeah absolutely. Is it overrated? Definitely. It has many many flaws and the community does like to ignore those and just say to you "get good" like you did many times in this video. The concept of the game is why its good. But the execution leaves alot to be desired and i think thats what this guy is pointing out. Everyone knows the multiplayer is absolute cancer to deal with and trying to excuse it with "but the lore" is ridiculous especially when learning anything about the lore is incredibly hard to do because the game barely makes sense and you have to go into menus and read alot of shit to understand.

You have immediately gone full fan boy 🤦‍♂️
It's not your fault, it happens, but most people don't make videos answering critiques when they haven't even completed the game themselves. How are you talking about the later part of the game when you haven't even got there yet fgs. For example not blocking ghosts. You cant. Not with out certain things an sometimes it's easier just to YOLO through. Things you would know if you have even got to the bit you're criticising FFS. I have played and completed every souls like, love the dark souls series, yet still agree with everything he's saying. Alot of the criticism like the camera and the later part of the game being weak, are commonly known in the community and widely agreed on. Even the footage of the camera issue you showed, shows the lock on not working and not locking on to the closest target. How do you make such a big deal about that an not realise you are showing evidence against your own argument. Jeez. I imagine you are gonna go full toxic.

The lock on bit, it's because his camera wasn't aimed towards the closest enemy. That was entirely his fault.

Being Australian, the internet dropping off joke isn't because we're upside down, it's because our internet is decades out of date and so much slower than the rest of the world that we might as well be using dial-up.
