My plans for today went pearshaped because my mate was faffing around instead of getting ready for going to the mall as we planned earlier. Turns out, he was just winding me up and throwing a wobbly was unnecessary. Not an epic story, just bits and bobs from my boring life.
Thanks, man. As always you have been doing a great job. 1) What's in your fridge? - Well, my fridge is full of food cuz I had returned one hour ago from a market but this morning it was just bits and bobs. 2) When was the last time you threw a wobbly? / When has someone got shirty with you? - I'm from Russia and here it's OK to throw a wobbly to a stranger or if someone gets shirty with you. 3) What do you like to faff/fanny about doing? - If I want to faff around I will play games. 4) Who winds you up? When was the last time you wound someone up? - I love English small talks, but it winds me up when I want a serious talk but it's not accepted. - I just realized that I have not done wound anyone for a long time. 5) When did a plan of yours go pear-shaped? - I had 10 minutes for the exercise but my plan went pear-shaped and I'm writing this comment for 30 minutes.
1. I've got six eggs, some cheese, chicken, a bit of pork, five zucchini, savoy, lettuce, ten apples, six kiwis, a bit of onions, a little garlic and two bottles of water. 2. I threw a wobbly yesterday because my recharger didn't work but then I sorted it out. My sister got shirty with me this morning as she wanted me to collect the washing out to dry and I didn't feel like doing it. Eventually I did and she did the ironing though. 3. I like watching videos on lions and hyaenas when I faff about. 4. Ivana winds me up because she's always complaining about bits and bobs, while I can't remember when it's the last time I wound someone up. 5. My relationship with Ivana went pear shaped just because she often throws a wobbly for odds and sods.
You are an amazing teacher! Thanks to your sometimes odd, sometimes random examples the expressions always come to my mind when I need them. And it also helps me to understand British idioms! hahahah :) thanks a million and congrats!
without exaggeration, the best teacher ever not only a teacher , but also a prof. and a doct. great work of you, Aly we love you so so much, to the extremes 😍😍😗😘❤💗😘😗💙
Here my answers: 1. My mother always worries about odds and sods when the whole fimily hangs out. 2. My best friend and I throw a wobbly and, suddenly we make up the same day. But, whilst that happens we really get shirty. 3. I must have my speech prepared for tomorrow morning, but I'm just fannying about watching trending videos on TH-cam. 4. Maria can't stop winding me up in class, then, at the end of the class, she just turned out of the blue and says to me she was just windind up. 5. Sofia's white lie went pear shaped when her brother spilt the beans about she didn't have to take her last mother's biscuit. She is cheeky! Hugs from Venezuela! i LOVE your videos are pretty useful. Thank you!
1. bits and bobs / odds and sods: small things 2. throw a wobbly: get angry 3. shirty: aggressive 4. faff/fanny around/about: waste time 5. wind sb up: joke, tease, play a joke on sb (negative meaning: annoy sb) (past tense: wound) 6. go pear-shaped: go wrong (plan, relationship,...)
I find myself good here. Thank you for all lessons that you explain us and for your good sense of humor. I often watch your video and try to follow every of them. You are adorable! Thanks a lot...
I think you'll never wind us up. You are a great teacher, in fact I've learnt most English expressions just for you. Thank you so much. Keeping doing it. 😍
You are so original, I learn a lot with these kinds of examples, really funny. For one of your questions, I really love the new phrase FAFF/FANY/ABOUT /AROUND, I laughted a lot because I like faffing around time watching funny cats videos as well!!! :)
thank you so much, Aly. you are the best, I love your accent My answers 1- I have just bits and bobs in my fridge 2- I can't remember when the last time was that I threw a wobbly or someone got shirty with me, I am a positive person so I don't keep things like these in mind 3-I like to watch food videos when I faff around 4-my friends wind me up, they speak Arabic that is our mother tongue when we are practicing English and Turkish languages, the last time when someone wound me up was yesterday. ^^
oops! I didn't answer the last question, the last time when my plan went pear-shaped was last Sunday, I planed with friends to go out together but we didn't because of work.
I've never left any comments before but I do want to tell how one of my first dates went pear shaped. When that guy saw me at first time he said:"You're are too tall! Girl must not be so tall!! And I think we shouldn't go for a walk just after 1 month of chatting in the Internet!" Thank you for each video you make! Particularly for your phrase "English is weird")) It helps me not to quit lessons)) And I'm looking forward a video about synonyms of the word "Idiot" because I'd like to describe this story more expressively))
Your video is excellent, fabulous and smashing. You deserve more subscribers. I was over the moon, as happy as Larry and thrilled when finding out your channel. And I'll share with other English learners.
Thank you again mr. Aly for granting me your knowledge in such a nice way. I feel I got waaay better at english thanks to your teachings. People tend to mistake me for a londoner nowadays, and I think I owe this to you, because you are my entertainment source when I'm fanning around :D thank you again for your awesome work m8, keep it up! \m/
I usually faff around watching videos like this. But don't get shirty, I am just winding you up:) Speaking seriously, I really enjoy these videos. Thank you so much!
"Don't through a wobbly" is a really easy-to-remember phrase because in Russian "wobbly" sounds as a word "вопли" (vopli) translated as cry, yell, scream, so, the same situation which is going on in your example :D
I'm a Bostonian who lived & visited all parts of UK, lived in Ireland. Extended stays in Barnsley, Yorkshire, & Regents Park London Zoo. Lived in Dublin & Limerick long term. I have been told 1,000 x approx "you wont understand this humor, because you're American". All I can say is; OMG, dude! Yes I do😘😂😜😁. If U like I can translate some Roy "Chubby" Brown for you. My favourite is Blackpool. Also you know nothing about takin the piss till you spend a bank holiday weekend w/ lads from Dublin. & Marry one!! Also lived in Switzerland. Worst insult is call someone a..... I know !Ciao! XXXX
The last time I threw a wobbly was when I had to take after four quite drunk friends. It was exasperating but I took a lesson from that: if you want to stay calm, always drink as much as your friends. Thanks a lot for your lessons. They are very helpful.
Thank you Aly!! it's really helpful for me in England! Could you please make more this subjects? btw there are bits and bobs in my fridge such as butter, jam and so on!
My fridge is full of some solid food and some bits and bobs. The last time I started to get wobbly was when my husband started to lite up a ciggy but stopped then continued on so I got very shirty with him till he put it out. When I’m faffing about or fluffing around I’m watching 80’s videos of JHJ. My neighbor enjoys winding me up. I wanted to watch Faulty Towers and forget I canceled my subscription to Brit Box so my plans to watch went pear shaped. Cheerio and Cheers 🎉✌🏻xx
Must say!Haha to 'Faff around' sounds same as our Brazilian word for 'Crumbs' -> Farofa :) Take a look Farofa (from kimbundo falofa ) is cassava flour or poached or toasted corn flour , usually passed through fat or butter , to which numerous other ingredients can be added , such as: roasted bacon , fried sausage , egg , meat , tofu , or other plant foods. It is a very popular dish in Brazil , having its origin registered in the colonial period . It serves as an accompaniment to meat, poultry or fish roasts...
Well then ... yesterday my friend Gemma texted me and she went “ what re u up to luv?” And I was like “ nothing mate , odds and sods . She lives next door though so I saved myself by saying “ just winding you up mate , I’m just outside your front door ! How on earth could I forget you??”

It was easy to find these expressions in the comment cause they were the only thing I didn't understand xD
I know the comment is a year old but throwing a wobbly already means it's unnecessary so that parts a bit redudant
we don’t say mall son
@@samia8630 yeah... mall is definitely American...

Also we say here in the north of England “throw a wobbler” instead of wobbly!
I live in London and say "thrown a wobbler" too. In fact I've never in my life heard "thrown a wobbly" lol.
In Midwest US we say pitch a fit
I don`t usually faff around, but when I do it, I watch your videos hahaha. 0

4-I like to surf internt just to faff about

My mother use to wind me up few days ago, and I wind my sister up about her homeworks :)
"winding somebody up" can be directly translated to german and still means to tease somebody ("jemanden aufziehen") :D
Thanks so much Papa
In French,
for bits and bobs, you can say " quelques bricoles"
Ex : Que fais-tu aujourd'hui ?
- juste quelques bricoles (just some trifle)
Must say!Haha to 'Faff around' sounds same as our Brazilian word for 'Crumbs' -> Farofa :)
Take a look
Farofa (from kimbundo falofa ) is cassava flour or poached or toasted corn flour , usually passed through fat or butter , to which numerous other ingredients can be added , such as: roasted bacon , fried sausage , egg , meat , tofu , or other plant foods.
It is a very popular dish in Brazil , having its origin registered in the colonial period . It serves as an accompaniment to meat, poultry or fish roasts...
I was expecting things like “can’t be arsed”
can't be arsed don't pop up x

I just can’t get enough of it !! Can’t wait to try them out with my Brit friends 😍😍 you rule mate
Ok but write the example you used with your friends here :)
Well then ... yesterday my friend Gemma texted me and she went “ what re u up to luv?” And I was like “ nothing mate , odds and sods . I had some errands to run but I basically have been faffing around the whole day !”
Since I’d promised my friend to pop to her house , as soon as she read my reply, she threw a wobbly.
