The only problem with the rant is that if you look at travels and offensive fouls at that time it is a lot crazier than the NBA now. In nowadays you can get away with murder and will still be called a defensive foul but if you look at Wilts era you could not do nearly as much. I think that attributes to Wilt not having success against Bill Russell because Bill was a really good defensive player. If we put this a more modern day calling we would see a complete different game.

    • @elimanatorzt3151

The game is well documented. Harvey Pollack, who was the NBA’s most respected statistician and was involved with the NBA from the beginning of the league until 2015, tracked this game among many other Wilt games. There is radio broadcast of the game. It was in thousands of newspapers. 4000 eyewitnesses saw it. An entire team of opponents will ratify they had 100 dropped on their head by one guy. It's like taking a marathon runner, and say "yeah, but you see, on a one-mile sample that's not so fast, I can do that for a mile" ignoring the fact that the guy did that for 25 STRAIGH miles.

Those early Warriors team were very limited on offense, with only 1 other very good scorer, but were actually ok in defense even without Wilt. So he focused on scoring, which was also his instinctual thing to do.
When he got to the Sixers and then the Lakers he was more mature, he finally had offensive talent around him and someone that he actually respected as a coach, so he focused more on what the team needed the most: defense, passing, rebounding. That led to more success.

Been watching some stories about Wilt and Bill Russell, collected from newspapers at the time and witnesses that knew them. Before Wilt went to the Lakers, his team owner had the whole offense run through Wilt so that Wilt's gaudy numbers would sell more tickets. Wilt was a talent who was maximized for revenues. Wilt's first season with the Lakers (1968-1969) he was on a superteam with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. The Lakers owner guaranteed publicly that the Lakers would win the 1969 Finals and in that Finals game 7 he set up the whole arena with props to celebrate the Lakers win. Bill Russell took personal offense and said to the owner "Those balloons are staying the **** up!" Celtics won that game!
Wilt still had amazing stats but the fact that Bill Russell's competitiveness and drive to win with a deep team allowed him to beat a Lakers superteam tells me Bill was a more impactful player and knew how to win beyond what the limited stats of that era say.

Let's go over this. Against Bill Russell, Wilt averaged 28 and 25. In the playoffs, Wilt played insanely well but his teammates couldn't compare. In 1967, he averaged a triple double against Bill Russell and went on to win the championship. In 1962, Game 7 was decided by one point. In 1964, Wilt averaged 30 and 20. His teammates were of little help against the star-studded Celtics. In 1965, Wilt scores the last 10 points for his team and they have a chance to win in Game 7 but John Havlicek steals the ball to win the game. 1968 and 1969 are the only years that can really be held against him. In 1968, he averaged 15 points over the last two games as the Celtics came back from down 3-1. In 1969, he struggled the whole series after he took a backseat for the Lakers. In Game 7, he got injured with 5 minutes left and his coach(who he had problems with) refused to put him back in with 2 minutes to go and down 1.

FAKE NEWS!!! This guy clearly don't know ball. Wilt Chamberlain ended the Celtics 8 year championship run while he was playing for the Sixers in 66-67 (ECF). Won the title that same year at 30 yrs old after beating all time great center Nate Thurman, HOF Rick Barry and the Warriors in the Finals. Won another title with Jerry West later in his career at 35 yrs old and won finals MVP over West in that series. He was that good. Ppl forget the Celtics at the time we're loaded with talent. It wasn't Russell vs Wilt. Wilt only had Greer as an all-star teammate. Those Celtics teams were more stacked than the Warriors with KD were. Deepest team in NBA history. Wilt could do it all on the court. He just might be the GOAT. Won 7 scoring titles, 11 rebounding titles and the only center to win the assist title in 67-68. Led the league in field goal percentage 9 times! They did not officially count blocks till 73 but based on 100+ games of data recorded, Wilt averaged an all-time high 8.8 blocks per game. He was a walking triple double. He's number 1 all time in double doubles and holds over 65 NBA records by himself. Only man to put up a quintuple double in a game(54 PTS, 32 REB, 14 AST, 24 BLK & 11 STL). He was the best offensive player at the time and up there with Bill Russell as the best defender. Don't listen to these kids y'all. They have no clue on who they're speaking on.

He was not even an option to score on the Lakers only if he had no other option and only then was he asked to score. Kareem was the main guy for the Bucks on offence that why when people point out Kareem scored more in their matchups is a moot point it is not apples to apples and an unfair comparison but as I am learning when it comes to Wilt he was so great that around every corner is some idiot trying to downplay his greatness pretty pathetic.
