I remember liking show back when it first aired, as I like smart hulk during my early years reading comics as a kid, and saw this Hulk as a more mature, fatherly, and authoritative version to the Hulk in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes; also that it’s a unique show that isn’t another Spider-Man or X-Men show. Looking back, though I see it more a cash grab with a handful of cringy scenes and dialogue, I still got a soft spot for it, and after watching this, think it woulda done better as a Fantastic Four show.
I remember this one. I think you're onto something with that theory. I know Guillermo Del Toro wanted to do a Hulk show for ABC. Jeph Loeb talked about it. But you're probably right. Maybe they wanted to make a Fantastic Four series but because Fox had the rights to it at the time, most likely Pearlmutter who was in charge of Marvel Entertainment and its tv division, probably didn't want them to do it. Cause then they would indirectly be promoting Fox's movies.
I have my own theory on why they used almost no hulk villains. I can think of 4 off the top of my head. 3 of them are featured as important characters in the show, and the 4th is the King of the Wendigos.
I just want to say you’re going places as a content creator with each video you make it feels like you’re getting more and more comfortable with TH-cam and the quality just keeps going up. Keep up the great work man.
I kind of feel a fundamental problem with this show was the base concept. Think about every superhero team show ever made. Justice League, Avengers EMH, etc. What makes these shows work (among many reasons) is that you have a diverse roster of heroes with distinct abilities and they all fit specific niches. You have tech based heroes like Batman and Iron Man, powerhouses like Superman and the Hulk, so on and so forth. But this show literally has five characters with the exact same powerset. It's: Hulk, Hulk but he's blue, Hulk with guns, Hulk with a sword, and Hulk but she's a lady. It almost immediately kneecaps you as far as action scenes and storytelling goes because you have a fairly boring and samey roster of characters. Mind you I only watched eight episodes of this so I don't know if that improved as it went along, but I'm going to assume not.
I hope one day you will review the 2000's marvel animated shows, which consist of Wolverine and the X-Men, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Heck, I hope you also will review Iron Man: Armored Adventures too. After all, they were my childhood.
Thank you for doing this review. Quite interesting. This was indeed a very strange Marvel cartoon series that sometimes made me laugh and smile a lot as I watched it. Thank you for covering all the episodes that you remembered. The way that they used The Leader was very disappointing. Skaar was also kind of a letdown but the series still had a lot of heart! Excellent job on this project! I look forward to seeing more of your cartoon reviews!
If this really was meant to be a Fantastic Four show, I guess Leader's role would've been filled by Wizard, who was in Ultimate Spider-Man... I wonder if that means something
Ngl this show was pretty decent, especially the fantastic four episode and the Ghost rider episode, and I think that was the last time I saw the FF in a marvel cartoon
I had to do the same thing, but with She-Hulk. You gotta take every scrap you can get as a fan of any Hulk! This show is…fine. At worst it’s fun to laugh at, and at best, it’s at least above average. As with any Hulk media, had to watch Jen play second bitch to Bruce, but that’s just the way that bullshit works.
It’s crazy true this hole marvel animated universe daredevil never showed up once you could say oh well he’s more of a violent character they won’t show him but that didn’t stop them from putting blade punisher ghost rider and freaking moon knight of all characters moon knight???

I liked hulk agents of smash. Wish they never cancelled Avengers earths mightiest heroes or wolverine and the x-men. I liked the way he and Bruce banner fused together. Like Professor hulk. Of all the animated Marvel series out there, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H is the only show that has slapstick. It's absolutely hilarious. It even gets me all the time to this very day. Also, I know what S.M.A.S.H stands for. Super Massive Action pack Strong Hulks
I understand your opinion, but to be honest, Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of SMASH is my favorite Hulk TV Series because of the way these Hulks talk to each other, it makes you feel like a hilarious sitcom. The way they stop the episode for a second and broke the 4th wall about how each of them felt about their current situations they're in, which is similar to the Office. Two of my favorite characters of the show are A-Bomb and the Red Hulk. Because they are voiced by Seth Green and Clancy Brown AKA Chris Griffin and Mr. Krabs and I think they are funny together. I enjoyed their scenes a lot because it's like listening to Mr. Krabs and Chris Griffin talking to each other. Too bad A-Bomb is not in the MCU yet, since he's currently the only member of the Agents of SMASH who is not in the MCU. She-Hulk and Skarr get to be the MCU since She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (2022). I pictured that the Red-Hulk rubbing in A-Bomb's face that he's in the MCU now on the day Captain America: Brand New World (2025) trailer popped up, which made him very upset. The Hulk comfort A-Bomb by saying, "Don't worry, Rick. Your time will come eventually."
Wow dude…… Thinking back on it now, i feel like it definitely was supposed to be an FF show! You blew my mind, g. I definitely would’ve preferred a Fantastic Four show💯
I wonder if they could have used other hulks in the show like Lyra who is the daughter of hulk and Titania in another dimension or doc Sampson who is a superhero therapist and other stuff.
Loving the marvel show reviews John David Gamez could you do one for Avengers EMH one of the best Marvel cartoons bc that show IMO actually fixes alot of the characters that the MCU fumbled.
While it may not be the best show… I still enjoy it for various reasons, it’s mostly the voice cast and the Hulk trying to (as his voice actor put it) just be “a really nice guy”. And the strange idea of making it a sort of reality show in their universe… bizarre but I love the cutaways at times.
Was pretty solid and holds up better than the stuff they are currently running. Especially animation wise. About Avengers Assemble/Ultimate Spider-Man a bit too Disney sugary but entertaining enough to hold some ground.
At first i was thinking "well it's made for kids, who cares if it's bland and childish" then i remembered that the original Hulk tas was also for kids and that show was legit scary and wasn't afraid of showing actual drama and a gray main character
Ah yeah I remember that show. Man was it bad. A small nitpick about it that I personally hated: the way they drew the teeth. I know it's a detail, but I found it ugly and jarring how they detailed them compared to every other show.
you know it's kinda hilarious it doesn't just has fantastic four villains also it has guardians of Galaxy villains especially in season 2 such like ronan ,the kree , galactus , ego , high evolutionary and supreme intelligence and it used them better than the guardians of Galaxy cartoon
Yeah it honestly made me with the FF appeared altogether more instead of being in just one episode. Wish they had made a FF show in this universe too lol.
On your fantastic 4 point, i dont know man it makes sense. In my brain, Hulk doesnt really have a lot of consistent villains. We have the Leader, Abomination, maybe that Absorbing man guy, and Ross. I bet they did that because She-hulk teams up with the FF a lot (i only say this cause im not a she-hulk fan but i have vivid memories of her in a FF costume and once heard about her subbing for the thing).
I remember reading a whole book of just a bunch of different gamma powered villains like zaxx and the sasquatch they definitely have enough hulk villains but its definitely weird why they use alot of ff villains
I wish Marvel went back to making good animated shows based more on the comics again. Stuff like Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Fantastic 4 World's Greatest Heroes, Spectacular Spider-Man and Wolverine and The X-Men was Peak Marvel Storytelling. Hulk I think especially needs a good show, weather it be animated or live action just give him something. It feels like Marvel doesn't care about their biggest foundational character aside from Spidey and Wolverine. Hulk fans like me have been starved for too many year's and we need something good. I have my doubts that we'll get to see anything major with him in the next few year's or so at least not without some big changes going forward, but I think I speak for many when I say it's high time something be done about the lack of care and attention put on this major character who without him you wouldn't have the Avengers or any of the classic stories that were captivating for decades in the comics, movies, shows and games. It's been 18+ year's now since we had a Hulk Game that was notable and almost 30 year's since the 96 animated series and don't even get me started on how he's been done in live action. Universal may have had some control over his solo movie rights but not his Television or game rights, we should've had a Live Action MCU TV Series back in phase 2 to now that gave us what we've been starving for, at the very least a good animated series that adapts the lore of the comics properly or something. But I guess we'll never get to see anything like that these days. Given how things are now with all the strikes and all the miscommunications and so on I don't think we'll ever get even a taste of that ever again and that sucks. Best we could hope for is some small cameos and off screen remarks about adventures we'll never see and maybe a What If Episode or two and that's it. Even though he's back at Marvel Full rights included we may have to wait a good decade or two before we even get one Trilogy about Hulk if that. Oh yeah and I did not like this show very much, when I saw the trailer for this show and I heard what they were planning for it to be like a cross between a reality show and sort of a sitcom I was like NOOOOOOO! to me that spelled disaster. They basically wanted to do Jersey Shore(Which I hated soo much) and somehow mix that in with something like Modern Family and Hulk and just no. I watched every episode from beginning to end in hopes of proving myself wrong that maybe just maybe there's something in here that does this series justice that does not suck and I found obsoletely nothing but cringe. When I was a little kid and I saw that a new Hulk animated series was in the works my eyes widen with glee as I loved the 90's animated series and I thought this was gonna be something grander and well it's no surprise what my thoughts were when it came out. I'd go into more details but honestly the point was made long before I started typing. Hulk deserves better, he's deserved better for decades now and he's overdue for some poetic Cinematic justice.
I actually really love this show never got the hate I think it's a fun idea especially for Hulk in one of his moments of being less Angry and a bit smarter. A team of Hulks with Smash in the name is just cool to me. Wish it ran longer would of been cool to get a ep where the team vanished and a replacement team takes over so we could of got Red She-Hulk maybe Hulkling if only for a im not really a Hulk joke plus just seeing him would be cool and the other She-Hulk. I was thinking Awesome Hulk to but he didn't become a Hulk during these shows runs I think. I also really like how this show probably worked with the continuity between shows the best mainly with Ultimate like how Hulk knows Vernon in Ultimate because of his show. Them fighting lot of none Hulk villains never bugged me I mean he does fight a lot of villains that aren't his in the comics to Also a fun coincidence for me and this show is I first saw the Maestro in a re run right after I read a Spider-Man 2099 comic with Maestro in it that timing was perfect
How would you feel if Hulk Agents of Smash connected to Avengers EMH once Hulk was absent for 12 episodes after he was pulled out of action by a Skrull in EMH ?
@@comicbookking3446 Because Red Hulk was a villain in EMH, and suddenly being friendly to Hulk would be extremely inconsistent to what the show wanted.

Yeah, it’s fine in my opinion. 6/10 Definitely the weakest Marvel show, but I do have some nostalgia for it and I’ll rewatch it every once in a while. Same with Avengers Assemble, and Ultimate Spider-Man. If I ever feel down or get bored, I can always put one of these three shows on and get some enjoyment out of them.
If you’re going to do more Marvel shows I’d recommend reviewing Future Avengers because it’s bonkers with anime characters, insane character designs and DEADPOOL!!!!
This only got made because Jeph Loeb who was in charge of Marvel TV and animation at the time wanted to shove the awful characters from his awful Hulk run down everyone's throats.
Well …..I haven’t seen this in years. I know it’s probably unwanted and incredibly unlikely….but if and I mean a very big “IF” they even consider adapting some of the elements from this show along with the other shows that tie in , I suggest they make the stories grounded , a lot more faithful to the comics , and have it them be for all ages and not just kids .
Hulk And The Agents of S.M.A.S.H series deserves more new seasons & more new episodes someday as well, so we could see more adventures of Hulk and his teammates, like She-Hulk, A-Bomb, Skaar & Red.

Well they can’t make a fantastic four show because of licensing issues with fox
Now that you point it out, this really is just a Fantastic Four Show no wonder I liked it as a kid.
RED HULK IS VOICED BY THE UGENE CRABS?!?!?!
This does feel like a Fantastic Four show when you mention it.
Well you're wrong. The show is great
It's about family. *Cue Dom*
So they basically made a fantastic four show, but the actual fantastic four still appear in the show?! Why didn’t they just use them then?

It was alright, I like hulk and was so starved of hulk media, I took what I could get.

I enjoyed it when it came out i do agree with you that they should've had more villains from Hulks rouges gallery. But it wasn't that bad to me especially since the idea of hulk leading a team of other gamma heroes isn't too far fetch. Im pretty sure that some higher ups most likey took inspiration from the comic book run of hulk and the agents of smash. The only thing that's different is that Red hulk is apart of the team in the show. But in the comics Betty as Red she hulk was a member as well as Krogg which honestly yeah those two should have been apart of the team and make instead of maing Skaar an idea idiot have him be something akin to Raphael from ninja turtles. A head hotted person with good intentions and kind heart underneath all that anger.
You should make a video of all the ways to improve this universe/season by season/characters/structure/story/continuity, things you would add/remove etc.

Of all the animated Marvel series out there, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H is the only show that has slapstick. It's absolutely hilarious. It even gets me all the time to this very day.

Do you take show requests? If you do, would you make a video about Spider-Man TAS? That’s my favorite Spider-Man cartoon
Doc Samson was actually in an episode of the show, he was in the Skaar Whisperer as Skaar's therapist to try to teach him how to act mature.
I watched, like, ten episodes of this show when I was a kid and then promptly forgot about it
I grew up watching these cartoons as a kid and they made me get into Spider Man, The Avengers, and the Guardians!
Loving the marvel show reviews John David Gamez could you do one for Avengers EMH one of the best Marvel cartoons bc that show IMO actually fixes alot of the characters that the MCU fumbled.
Me and sis love this show, very underrated. Skar is my favorite character and wish they made a sequel to the animated Planet Hulk.
I have to agree with you the leader escaping does get draining after a while

"I grew up with these shows" dang I'm old...
Get that pity dick out of your mouth.
something I don't like of the series, beside the messy editing, is how they draw the teeth of the characters, specially with the non-hulk ones
This and the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie both felt like substitution for the Fantastic Four. You nailed it.
Was pretty solid and holds up better than the stuff they are currently running. Especially animation wise. About Avengers Assemble/Ultimate Spider-Man a bit too Disney sugary but entertaining enough to hold some ground.
At first i was thinking "well it's made for kids, who cares if it's bland and childish" then i remembered that the original Hulk tas was also for kids and that show was legit scary and wasn't afraid of showing actual drama and a gray main character
its crazy he has a whole team of hulks being he himself can take out a whole army by himself

She was a member of the FF for a few years in the 80s
I remember reading a whole book of just a bunch of different gamma powered villains like zaxx and the sasquatch they definitely have enough hulk villains but its definitely weird why they use alot of ff villains
It isn't mentioned in this video but Galactus also started out as a Fantastic Four villain.
I think it’d be fun if you did vids like these but for each of the Marvel animated cartoons of the 90’s and that semi shared universe, def subbing
