      I think that the first infected girl that jumped on the train had a long time before she turned because she wrapped a rope around her leg to slow the infection

      This is funny because they dont deserves in a sin for the endangered woman being ignored onnthe train. Ive seen ill people or domestic abuse get ignored because people don't want to get involved or selfishly ignore so they dont add drama to their OWN lives because they have things to do. I was born in a major city , was sexually assaulted on the train and everyone, including employees, kept their head down ignoring me asking for help. Saw a woman pass. Saw police ride pass domestic abuse on the streets and watched the police ride pass people breaking into a store

    I have cried every time the dad turns and remembers his daughter’s birth. And I think the reason that the older woman was docile was because she was carefree and kind. If you think about it sometimes the evilness we hide can come out the worst. Which is why when the dad realized what was important, ie. his daughter, he was able to sacrifice himself but falling off the train.

      I've noticed there's a massive class consciousness in Korean fictional media, and corruption is also a huge theme. It's refreshing as someone who has only watched mostly US media my whole life, I really enjoy the additional layer of commentary embedded in the dramas/stories.
      EDIT: I also saw this a lot in Kingdom, and really enjoyed how the zombies in Kingdom represented those who had starved to death after the invasion due to the government officials being corrupt and hoarding supplies, as well as the crown prince's struggle to bring about a system where the people would live with dignity and peace

    • @pseudonym4649
      @pseudonym4649 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's honestly not as classist as you think it might be, and this is coming from someone who's lived in the country from Jeju Island to Incheong, but that depends on how you define the term and what period of time you're talking about, i.e. 1950s South Korea is a much different story than 21st century South Korea which is remarkably less classist than it was when Syngman Rhee was first ruling the country, at least as far as sociopolitical definitions are concerned. I'm sure some South Koreans look down upon other people based on social status -- I've encountered some myself, so I know they exist -- but that's something that individuals do rather than "all of Korea" somehow being guilty of a "class-centralized viewpoint" that one person is doing, so I'd recommend you avoid that generalization if I were in your position. And if this is your position, then pretty much every country in history then would be "classist" then by this definition.
      This being said, I think you might be reading a bit too much into the movie, I'm not sure that them focusing on the homeless person really was supposed to be a political commentary because these days I think it's easy to make political connections where there are none, unless you can show me a source (i.e. director's commentary) that proves you correct that the director indeed made this intentional. Otherwise, I think you may be thinking too hard about this because other people in this comment thread don't necessarily agree that this must be a political statement of some kind.
      While I'm not saying that I'm trying to be a bootlicker for South Korea or anything like that because being a bootlicker for the country is the last thing I want to be because that's not very objective, I think it's important to try to be objective when making such huge generalizations like "all of Korea is classist" because ideally we try to avoid generalizing for an entire race, or at least I would recommend this anyhow. But I always welcome debate, so if you'd like to debate this, I'm always happy to have a civil discussion with other people about this.

    The two elderly sisters were pretty good characters in and of themselves. The older sister was trying to take care of her sister even at that age. Implying that she has been doing it for a very long time. The younger sister, feels slightly annoyed at being babied at her age. I think that the older sister didn't give up, but sacrificed herself to save her younger sister because she would only be slowing her down. The younger sister, seeing this sacrifice, reflected on the babying of the past, were all done as a sacrifice and love for her, broke down in regret.
    That was my take anyways, I might've gotten some things wrong because I was too busy crying at the scene.

    • @DemonVermin
      @DemonVermin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +137

      Heh, nice take. When I watched it I found that I rewound the scene a lot since it was such a good one. I found that when she talked about selflessness she looked at her zombified sister and when she talks about selfishness she looks back... at the people who condemned her sister to her fate. Her sorrow, regret and realizations at how it wasn't just her selflessness that got her killed, but the selfishness she kept talking about embodied by the people behind her made her open the door... as a way to be with her sister again and to atone for her way of thinking, symbolically trying to destroy it.

    I think the infection time has to do with the location of the bite. Since it seems like it affects their brain, a bite on the leg would take longer to affect the victim than a bite on the neck. And also, the first girl wore a tourniquet to stop the infection. Obviously it didn’t work, but that explains why her time was so slow.

    4:30 I thought everyone already know this. It's logic. The first woman was bitten in her legs. Or probably just infected or something. So it took time before the virus took over. While the 2nd woman was bitten hardly in her neck, much closer to her brain. So it's only seconds before she became a zombie. Just like at the ending where the father still had a time to explain the train maneuver, because he was just bitten in her hands.

    • @dankerbooper741
      @dankerbooper741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +134

      This also supports my theory that size and location of bite determines infection rate. Since he was an average sized man and got his eye bitten out, which is very, very close to the brain, we can assume that this si the reason he turned so quickly.

    • @user-cj9sb1wt6e
      @user-cj9sb1wt6e 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Dankerbooper That’s a good theory but, that girl who ran on to the train in the beginning that was bitten on the leg, still had the chance to run and do stuff like that, that other girl, I think her name is Jin-Hee, she got pushed by the asshat and she got bit on the leg and turned almost instantly, maybe it’s because that Jin-Hee got bit where a vein is, idk.

    I am pretty sure the speed you turn depends on the severity of the bite. Like that first woman barely had her skin punctured, so she turned slowly. Everyone else had their flesh ripped away from the body, so the infection spreads more quickly.

      Plus where on the body. They mostly aimed for the neck which caused a near instantaneous reaction. The main character and the soon to be dad got bit on the hand which greatly delayed the reaction in their respective cases. And obviously as pointed out the bite on the leg at the start of the movie was extremely slow on comparison.
      So it probably also depends on overall blood flow too. But this is just my analysis of the situation

    4:31 the stowaway appears to have some sort of torniquet on her legs, which may have slowed down the infection (assuming that it is a pathogen that travels in the blood).
    I would say the stowaway took longer to turn because she appeared to have known that she was bitten and was able to "slow down" the rate of the zombification (which we see later in the film). In contrast, the other people probably didn't realise what was going on and therefore sucummbed for quickly.

    I think the reason for the inconsistencies with the bites is because it is possible to hold off the infection. All the characters who took long to get infected were all determined to do something. Homeless man? He was determined to hold off the infected so Su-an, her father and the pregnant woman could escape the collision. The soon to be dad was also determined to save his wife and the child from the zombies. The father wanted to make sure the pregnant woman and his daughter could make it to Busan. The asshat wanted to see his mom. The girl at the start had time to know that she would turn, so her body was able to fight it off for as long as she could, and was determined to get to safety. The high school girl didn't have time to react because it was so sudden. But it's just a theory.
