Does the sequel to Train to Busan hold a candle to its prequel? Does it have a gripping tale of man as they comes to terms with the world they live in, or is it more of an aciton film that I criticized World War Z for? This movie was so disappointing really, it was so fucking promising, the beginning was good at building tension but the writers decided to just go with "haha car go vroom"

Edit: Also cars work PERFECTLY fine after all these years of not being used, or even maintained.

They should've done something like 'Siege of Busan' instead, where they have to hold out until rescue arrives. We spend time with a soldier, nurse, or journalist doing their thing, and then interlink their stories together to create one bigger story. By the end, they group up and we get a cameo of the mom with her baby and the little girl being the last ones out of Busan as it falls.
30 minutes until Rescue arrives...

It should’ve been a continuation where they find a military base because at the last part they lived to see the soldiers and the woman gave birth at the base and then she would hear some sirens since the base has been infected there would be a train station near waiting for a rescue then they barcade it and hold out for a long time and when they come where back to regular train to busan inclosed and then there’s a man who try’s to threaten the baby to get the train to stop for his long dead wife and they just destroy everything.
Four years later...how many original zombies would still be functional? I think that is a question that is important too. We always throw in massive functioning hoards without considering environmental factors affecting decomposition and how that could render a body less then functional.

With zombies it's usually implied whatever turned them (virus/radiation/pathogen) is also what preserves the bodies
28 Days Later Zombies are eventually dying later because of starvation. While Train to Busan a.k.a Peninsula Zombies could last longer for more years without their bodies decaying. Nice
As I started watching the movie from the beginning, I thought the whole movie (majority of the) would take place on that ship, just like how most of the last movie took place on a train. That would have made it a similarly claustrophobic and tense. This movie is such *insert whatever bad quality you think would perfectly describe it* .

The director said he was heavily inspired by Mad Max when making this movie. Explains why there are so much driving action scenes. Director basically wanted to make Mad Max but with zombies

@D B look I don't care what your opinion of American Horror is I really don't but I really really really don't understand why people keep assuming every zombie movie is supposed to be a horror movie no zombie movie, show, comic or whatever has ever felt in any way qualified to be classified as horror like I get how it could be scary to the characters but as someone watching it I feel like it's just not scary at all mabye suspenseful but not scary.
Maybe this is just me but it bothers me so much when people say "it's not scary" and think it's a valid criticism of something that claims to be a part of the zombie genre because to me that means you thought something zombie related with scary and that just baffles me, what movie have you watched with zombies in it that actually was scary? This is legitimate question I'm not trying to be mean or anything I just really do not see it.

I would have really loved to see what happened to Su-an and the pregnant woman. I think it would have been beautiful to see her and the pregnant woman along with the baby becoming this sort of pseudo family. Maybe Su-an could have taken over her father's role as the protector. You know, finally understanding why her father did all that he did.
When I first watched this movie, the only thing I can think of is "no way the writers are the same. In no way, this is a sequel to Train to Busan."
Also anytime an Asian zombie/monster movie has a bad ass old man, he is going to die. Happens everytime.

Well the thing that's really frustrating at the beginning infected is that in the first movie, the virus takes effect in seconds so it doesn't make any sense that the infected guy on the ship repressed the infection
Could’ve been so much better. Why not have a group of civilians trying to rescue surviving people out of South Korea, having to deal with the military guarding the place and the zombies there. Or follow a military unit. Hell, could’ve just done a group of survivors in South Korea trying to escape. So many better plot ideas they could’ve gone with than money

@Strider guy yeah exactly, there aren’t TOO many zombie movies focused on purely a military perspective. Like those sections in the WWZ book about the soldier in the Army, all the strategies they use to fight the zombies back across the US. That would be cool as hell.

Train to Busan seems like a more realistic zombie movie. Instead of the entire god damn planet getting overrun,despite the fact that humans can literally wipe out all the planets life several times over with their technology,humanity actually contains the outbreak in Train to Busan. It still kills tens of millions of people,but not the entire planet.
Interesting side note, unit 631 is a play off unit 731, a Japanese bio unit in WW 2 that did horrific experiments on humans.
train to busan's infection scenario feels like it would make a great survival/horror game.

Marketing this as a soft sequel to TtB was a pretty crappy decision. This would have been received much better if it had JUST been a schlocky zombie action flick that they then reveal during the movie was set in the same 'verse as TtB. That way the tone of the movie would have been set beforehand and there would be no dissapointment with it and the connection to TtB would have just been a "oh hey, that's cool" detail that might have made the movie a bit more memorable than it would have been as just a standalone flick
But then how are they gonna milk the success of the first movie ?

It's actually the smartest decision they could've made. Regardless of how bad it is, they cashed in on the TtB fans just by it being linked together. If it were a standalone, it would've flopped hard. They got their money, and that's all that really matters to them. It doesn't start being a bad decision until they try it again on the 3rd movie and it flops too.
There's a reason why this keeps happening. It keeps working, and people are dumb enough to fall for it each time.

Seriously, the opening scenes look like a much better successor to Train to Busan than this. Ship to Hong Kong should've been the whole film, not a mere intro. An action-based heist film with zombies in it? Great! An action-based heist film with zombies in it as a sequel to the incredible bottle-episode action-drama with zombies in it? No thanks, and way to disappoint everyone.
And didn't you know, Zombies are highly magnetic. That's why they clump some times. When they don't, that is same polarity repelling them.

the sound at the train yard didn't pile up and stop it from leaving, Peninsula by itself would have been accepted better if it wasn't tied to the train of Busan IP, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie because I didn't hold it to the same tone that the original did.but the moment that you put it up against train to Busan it completely falls flat.

agreed. Just form the trailer, you can tell. This wasn't going to be the same tone as train to busan. Train to Busan was a disaster movie with the theme of zombies. Penisula is a action adventure with the theme of zombies. Two very different types of movies that only share the fact they are zombie movies and in universe related. Penisula isn't bad, its your typical zombie action movie, which is highly saturated already. That is why it felt disappointing to ppl. They held it to trian to busan standards when it should be held against other zombie action movies. You do that, and you realize Pennisula is still pretty good.
@@yummychips_ Even without the comparisons, I still think it sucked ass. The action was boring, CGI sucked, characters are boring cunts and the villains... they're just hilarious. The captain guy was the only one I liked but even his character wasn't all that fleshed out. The only thing I can give it is that the cinematography is decent.
Besides, how do you expect people to not compare this to other movies? Like I said, it looks like a Hollywood movie, except it's mostly Korean people. Besides, the guy who directed and co-wrote Train To Busan was doing it again with this movie so don't blame people for having high hopes, blame the director.
Now, I'm not saying you guys are wrong for liking the movie, it's just that when you said it was "pretty good", I couldn't help but chuckle a bit.

The director guy is a well reputated guy in animation films, but when he comes to making a real life films, he fails 67% of the times

I'd consider using drones to just lure the infected to the DMZ and use the defenses to piecemeal the infected. That border is just insanely defensible. You don't keep a cage of potential destruction left alone on your doorstep.
But if they break through it is all over. There is no other defensive position, so why not blockade the peninsula and over time the undead will starve or be killed off by the North Korean defensive line? Its better that only small amounts come instead of large hordes. Then wait a few years before recolonizing, if at all.
i mean with how it wrecked the rok army i would assume that it aint just the north koreans holding the line at least china and russia would probably have a large troop present at the DMZ since there next on the block if the north falls but i dont see why they are not doing more to curb the zombie horde the us has air bases in japan already i would assume there would be a pretty big air campaign to clean the south out even after the rok fell

You guy's could disagree with me or not but this is how i feel like the second movie should have been like. It started with how the last movie ended Su won the little girl from the first movie looking to the screen, than it shows what happened to her and pregnant lady, The soldiers get her and says it's gonna be okay, We got you, One of the soldiers yells for someone to get the nurse to check them mainly The Pregnant women to see if it's okay, After a little moment of a happiness we hear one of soldiers say to them with a smile it's gonna be okay you are in busan.. Than title of the movie comes in, If they wanted to have the new characters like the main character for this 2nd movie and his people than we can still have them and also add the news report from the beginning of the 2nd movie. But the thing is besides that. after this the movie goes the same way with focusing on the used to be solider guy with bangs on how he lost his sister and nephew and than we have that little sad moment but they built it up with the nephew and the sister to where when the death happens you would feel more sadder, Than the time jump kicks and we meet up with the solider and he has a mission and it's about getting supplies for the group with his people. Than of course the movie goes the same way but when the car crash happens we see the same thing the girls save the used to be soldier in the car and they escape and after he gets knocked from what happened he is brought back to a small room tied up and we see the girl who was driving and the little girl seeing him wake up and over time the same story happens but the thing is the bad guy's are more brutal and killing and they have problems with the soldiers in busan. Like a community vs another Community so than over time we see the older woman but this time it's the pregnant lady from the first movie but no longer pregnant because the little girl is her daughter and the older girl is the little girl from the first movie. We see more of a back and fourth like the 2nd movie did with the guy's brother in law being dragged into arena forced to fight walkers to the death but in this story. It's different the thing is, After what happen to busan like the news said We find out that they made it and some people too but there home was destroyed by the used to be soldier's people. which could be a plot twist when they find out he was apart of the people who did it. So we see a bit of a guilt he has and from that we see maybe a moment where he rests he remembers what happens to his sister and his nephew and how much it hurt him seeing them die and than we see a older suwon have a little moment with him about what happen to her dad in the first movie.. I might make a Gacha life of my version of train to busan 2 could have been

@@kreigwolf6809 Infantry is just salty cuz they don't get Spec Pay or Per diem. Want better pay, aspire to be more than a rifle with legs. There's a reason why you only need a Grade 10 education to qualify for the Infantry. Other trades require a High school Diploma or higher certification to qualify. The more qualified you are, the higher your value is, which equals out to higher pay due to specialist demand.
Peninsula showed exactly what happens when you westernize a movie. The movie becomes a gun fest with next to no character development or meaning. Of course when you watch it, you have to realize that's its merely a movie based in the same universe and not a "direct" sequal in terms of characters so you can't really compare it to the first film but that being said, the westernization really wasted the films potential.

@@a.k8185 please compare train to busan to peninsula. There is a MASSIVE difference in terms of character development and action. Western movies are good but like half of it is bland or just some action packed nothing burger.
Peninsula should've just been a separate movie cause I refuse to believe this is the successor of TRAIN TO BUSAN.
I think the interlocked zombies are supposed to be some king of rat king, essentially they got tied up with each other by accident.

I had higher hopes for this film considering how well done train to Busan was
I think the infections were so slow because those people were introduced to a bit of infection that hadn't adapted to the human body. Over the long time it took for them to be infected the virus got more adept, thus explaining the shortened turn times
Except we already saw this happen in the previous film; By this point, the virus would know the human body extremely well.
Can’t wait for the sequel airplane to Alberta where they find a working Boeing 747 after 10 years of sitting and successfully fly it to Alaska with no detection whatsoever, and then manage to land it on a small dirt road and drift it into some out of place zombies
That does sound cool but change the 747 to a C-130 so it's more believable
They're heading to Alberta, so they got a hold of an F-18 Hornet and flew to Cold Lake
The zombie pile might be based on the idea of the rat king, where a group of rats tails become fused due to various reasons

The boat scene on this movie reminds me of the WWZ game. At the end of the second chapter of the Tokyo Episode of the game,the players escape on a massive cruise ship full of survivors. On the next chapter,it turns out someone on the ship is infected,and the players have to go around the ship killing zombies to prevent the infection from killing everyone on the ship.

The cgi look of the car scenes reminded me too much of spy kids 3. Like WSG, I wanted to know what happen exactly to Busan, were there any evacuation efforts, how did zombies cross the mountain range. Instead of some random guy being interviewed, it would have been great to have Su-an share her story how her dad sacrificed his life for her to get to safety, and like how irl defectors from NK ask the global community to become more aware, Su-an should’ve asked the global community to help the displaced Koreans.
They really had me thinking this was gonna be a part two- a continuation of the last one
The problem with peninsula is that they skip the timeline. It would be better if the Movie started somewhere near Busan not Hong Kong and some sort of world war z defense happened.
Or even better if they made it a Prequel-Present the start is showing the patient zero of the virus and the present of how the city fell while train to busan was happening at the same time. I know it's America type idea but with the writers i know they will make it very entairtaning

Additional point on why you SHOULDN'T stop due to the flare; Flares don't set themselves off at random (unless you're telling me they're wired to some kind of rude golderberg machine) and I sincerely doubt Infected know how to operate them. That leaves only one feasible conclusion; the flare was set off by a living Human who either requires assistance or is looking to mug you or worse...

As a plain zombie movie, the movie is still ass.
You put it nicer at the end but this movie was a complete let down in every regard. At least they made back more than double their budget
i think the movie's kinda good sometimes, even if its not nearly as great as Train to Busan.

29:05 in Train to Busan the zombies kinda switched off in the darkness while going through tunnels so I think the idea is these zombies need light to make any decisions. Even if you walked right by them as long as it was dim enough these zombies wouldn’t react

I didn't really think of this movie as a sequel to Train to Busan so I was able to enjoy it as just another crazy ass zombie movie.
